Dave murmurs a confused obscenity as his eyes flutter open. He knew he was dreaming, he had fallen asleep while watching rom-coms with Karkat. He’ll probably face a stern rant from Karkles when he woke up, but for now, he was content with where he was. Wait. Where was he? He groggily looks up and sees a sky through his shades, specifically a deep purple night sky dotted with stars, with one more moon than he’s used to. One was bright pink, pink enough to pierce the black tint of his aviators and make his head hurt. He clicks his tongue, then lets out a low whistle.
“That’s a first.”
Dave knows how these things work, so he wasn’t that alarmed. Shit..what were they named? What did Rose call them? He searches his mind for the right terminology. “Dream bubbles”? Yeah, he thinks she called them that during one of her long tangents about the furthest ring. They mimic memories of the dead and dreaming, we’ll go to them while we sleep, don’t be alarmed if we see some dead people, all that jazz. He’d already seen a good chunk of his friend’s memories, and even some of his own he doesn’t even recall, but this place was completely and utterly foreign to him. One thing was for sure, it wasn’t Dave’s, or any of his doomed selves’, memory. He briefly considers staying there and watching the alien sky, but that would get lame quickly. And he can’t stand for any moment of his purely awesome existence be lame. Not even dreams. Dave gets up, stands on his two awesome feet, brushes off his awesome pants, and takes an awesome step forward.
He then trips on an alien rock and eats alien planet dirt. Fuck.
After Dave takes a few moments to recuperate from when he oh-so-gracefully fell on the ground, he props his arm up from his “face meets ground” position, he makes a mental note to trademark that later, and grunts as he sits up for the second time in under a minute. Thank god there’s no one there to witness his brief moment of uncoolness. The teen spits out a few strands of grass, and feels his face with his free hand for any damage. He huffs softly in annoyance as he feels the bridge of his shades are slightly bent. For a dream, everything feels way too real for his liking. He shuffles and stands up. All in all, he is physically unharmed, but his ego is bruised, along with the front of his body slightly damp from taking a nose dive onto some dewy grass. Finally taking time to properly look at his surroundings before moving, Dave immediately notices a cave to his right which looks ominous as fuck, and a forest to his left, which looks equally as ominous. Or they’re both not ominous as he thinks they are, and he’s just out of his element and overreacting. He refuses to consider for a second that he’s dramatizing this situation, and takes a step (away from the rock, mind you.) towards the cave, feeling that is the more interesting place out of the two.
