i use windows, as much as i hate it, it's better than mac os due to compatibility reasons, same when it comes to vs linux & such. i just want something that's going to be compatible with most software/tools i use, & not have to worry about finding alternative ways to things. i have used mac os in past though, & when it comes to it, i would opt for mac os for maintenance/ease of use reasons.

Sunny Day Jack Report 07/11/2023
Wednesday means it's time for our weekly development report, and this one's a nice big one for everyone to enjoy! Those of you who have been following us on Twitter may have noticed that we redesigned our logo for SDJ. The majority of the devlog will talk about our process behind that, so read it for free on Patreon or click the readmore for the important bits!
Unity Demo Version 0.03
Changelog:
Fixed video rendering while playing on the Steamdeck (via Windows Proton Compatibility)
Added missing CGs
Game extended slightly past the kissing on couch scene
Select narration from Y/N reworded for clarity
Macintosh OS compatible version has been added
Known bugs:
Certain voice lines may be missing or cut-off
This update was largely focused on ensuring stability before adding in more content. Those who backed the SDJ Kickstarter can access their beta testing keys via this link, while SnaccPop Patrons who pledge a minimum of $12/mo can access their beta testing key over here.
For our MacOS players, you may encounter issues launching the game due to Apple security, so please follow this tutorial to temporarily disable Gatekeeper (we recommend turning it back on afterwards). We're investigating ways to avoid Gatekeeper flagging the game, so please bear with us! As for our Linux/Steamdeck players, for the time being, please use the Windows version and use Proton Compatibility to play the game.
Logo Graphic Redesign
Like with the previous SnaccPop Studios logo, the SDJ logo was due for a makeover. For starters, the old logo was tiny.
Tumblr media
Yes, that's literally the largest size we have on hand for the original SDJ logo source file, and everything else is just blown up bigger in size if need be. Astute viewers may also notice that the Something's Wrong With portion of the logo was also slightly off-center this entire time, as With was hanging off the edge a lot more than Something's. Another issue that came up as we continued working with our translators was the fact that we'd most likely need logos in the target language too; adapting the old logo was near impossible because all we had left of it was a .png file. At this point, making a new logo just made sense.
The new logo largely retains the important elements of the original one. Using the Buddy Belt motif as the background image and the use of two distinct fonts, a formal serif for SWW and a more bubbly sans-serif for the SDJ that essentially captures the essence of Jack's dual personality, were ideas Sauce carried over. Additionally, his signature primary colors palette is much more clear in the text, making this logo more easily identifiable. After nailing down a good foundation and centering the text, Sauce overlaid faint scanlines reminiscent of old CRT display monitors then splashed some blood here and there; all in all, the new logo is a nice visual of the ludonarrative dissonance the game itself aims to achieve.
We'll pass the mic to Gureii here when it comes to the localized logos!
Translation & Localization
Hey there! Gureii (she/her) here. You might know me from one of the previous devlogs posted here on Patreon not so long ago.

I’ve been asked by BáiYù to present you a tiny (okay, not that tiny) little treat for both the Russian and the Japanese-speaking folks out there who are interested in our upcoming game, Something’s Wrong With Sunny Day Jack.
Let me introduce you to the new localized logos real quick:
Tumblr media
One of the most interesting aspects of working on these was the brainstorming session behind both of them. As the Lead Russian translator of this project, one of my main concerns was to come up with the title translation that would be both both simplistic and catchy, hence the name change from a statement to a question. The localized version of the title - «Что с тобой, Джек?» - includes both the questions a player would ask to Jack himself: “What happened to you?” and “What’s wrong with you?”, either depending on their opinion towards him or both of these at the same time.
The Japanese translation team, on the other hand, opted for something much more laconic, to which I was happy to comply! They're only using Katakana to translate the commonly abbreviated title into【サニー・デー・ジャック】, which will be easy for Japanese speakers to read (it'd be pronounced "Sanī dē Jakku"). It's short and punchy, and it's not unusual for Japanese logos to have the English text as well.
Another aspect (a tricky one this time!) was looking up the Cyrillic and Kana fonts that would match the mood of the English logo we got: it gets quite tricky when we talk about anything but Latin fonts, and it gets even harder when we talk about something that is as bold, youthful and bright as it is. For example, with the katakana transcription the Japanese translation team and I had to search for something that would not scare the person interested in playing the game, something much more inviting than the crimson lettering used on the English logo. The bloody Buddy Belt portion of the logo will still indicate to potential players that this is a horror game, so it works out.
By the way, you might be asking yourself, "Why isn't there a Spanish version of the logo?" Both Pierre and Nana expressed that translating the title wouldn't sound nearly as good as the original English title (a literal Latin Spanish translation would be "Algo Malo Pasa Con Día Soleado Jack"). Luckily, both English and Spanish share similar alphabets, so it's as big of a difference compared to Russian or Japanese.
---
And that's all we got for this week. Thanks again for your continued support of SnaccPop Studios!

So Warframe added a "Pom-2" Alternate 1999 computer (that's needed for weird void magic future science wizardry). Thoughts?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only thing I have that's a sort of question mark is that I don't know of many setups that would have needed a 5 1/4" floppy in 99 (or why it has both the tower and the under monitor unit)
ugh. OKAY, so... the tower and desktop combination is just weird. I have, on one occasion, run a "server" that was two towers, and the original PC supported a DUAL-DESKTOP mode, but both types together? nonsense.
dual monitor was rare but possible in 1999 (win98 added native support), so I think the best interpretation here is that this is actually two computers. maybe the one on the left is missing the keyboard and mouse because it's being used as some kind of server for the other computer? I used a little case like that to run my first linux server, which was also acting as a router for my internal network.
The OS is weird. The icons above the menu-bar look like win98, the dialog box is windows 3.x, the menu-bar icons on the bottom are pure os X (although they remind me of like a web-TV kinda system, like hotkeys for email/internet/etc), but the greyscale is very classic mac system. Actually it kinda reminds me of C64's GEOS, but GEOS was very classic-mac.
Tumblr media
Like most CRT-filters, they turned the scanlines up WAY TOO HIGH. No CRT I've ever seen looked that fucking terrible. The monitor buttons are a bit odd: You didn't get monitors with buttons on the front until long after they were all color... but maybe it's a color monitor that's showing a monochrome OS?
as for the floppies: yeah. There are multiple mistakes here.
5.25" in 1999 is just silly. If you still had 5.25" disk drives in 1999, you were intentionally doing some retrocomputing stuff. For reference, around 2001 my PC repair job would specifically ask me to copy data off 5.25" disks, because they didn't have any 5.25" drives anymore, and I was their only tech who did.
The other mistake is that they have THREE floppy drives. so the PC doesn't really support that, natively? You can do some tricks and make it work (The youtuber Tech Tangents did a video on how it could be done), but realistically two was the normal max.
The final mistake is that all the drive activity lights are on. Those are only supposed to be on while the drive is reading or writing... and I don't see any disks in those drives! Let alone a situation that would involve turning all three on at once (I don't think that's even possible on most floppy controllers!)
In fact, the main time you'd end up with the drive lights stuck on like that is when you've installed the drive cable upside down. That ends up with them getting stuck on and non-functional. So this computer looks, to me, like it was put together incorrectly and no one noticed.
I don't believe that font would be on a black & white retro computer. Nope. Too smooth and too big.
There's also a USB icon on that OS: I don't think there's ever been a monochrome OS that supported OS, and looking at that computer case I don't believe that it has USB. Maybe the tower would, but the desktop? no.
That keyboard is off a Gateway 2000 computer. Something like this:

“Hello, new friend!”
Welcome! This blog is created as a convenient little place to fill up with worldbuilding and pretty much anything I happen to make about FNAF:SB AU about the two little helpers inside the the second-hand laptop you had to purchase on a short notice. The laptop happened to be set up with a fresh install of a rather... unique operating system named CaelOS. Feel free to ask either me or the assistants about it, I’ll do my best to respond.
Tumblr media
CaelOS [CAH-el-os] - a lightweight, abandonware operating system, created with the purpose of teaching children how to use a computer with internet connection effectively and responsibly. For that purpose, it incorporates use of a specially created dual module virtual assistant, to both educate, and cultivate healthier habits in both online presence, and real life presence. [...]
Tumblr media
[...] Sun, dubbed “Daycare” within the system, is the virtual assistant module that is designed to provide any help a child needs to learn basic computer operation, and accompany them to provide a sense of companionship during any activities. It is notable for displaying a bubbly, energetic personality. [...]
Tumblr media
[...] Moon, dubbed “Nightguard” in the system, fitting the celestial theme of the OS, is the module that doubles as security and antivirus. Its purpose is to safeguard the user from any malicious software, and the system itself from accidental or malicious user actions. As opposed to Sun, it displays a rather quiet personality, and may be prone to snarky remarks and mild annoyance outbursts, which was very heavily criticized by the few who were able to use the OS before the servers shut down. [...]
Tumblr media
[...] The OS is considered complete abandonware due to the servers hosting the disk images being shut down shortly after its failure due to privacy concerns, parental complaints, and general criticism of not being all that different from its counterparts aside from the built in assistant. While praised for being cleverly programmed, it didn’t prove to be enough to gather the revenue for continued development. [...] It is unknown how many users have CaelOS as their primary system. Game of Survival
Pairing: Darklina x Star Summoner!Reader
Inspired by the Hunger Games
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
“You know who we are?”
Despite the swaying of the carriage as it speeds down the Vy, you manage to remain seated as you look at the two people in front of you. Staring at the man who had spoken, you nod.
“Aleksander Morozova and Alina Starkov. The first, and only, joint victors of the Grisha Games.”
Each year, a region of Ravka is selected and its people are tested for Grisha power. A member of each of the seven Grisha orders are brought to the capital of Os Alta where they will be trained by a victor Grisha of the same order, before they are entered into the Grisha Games for the entertainment of the nation and beyond.
The Games are incredibly popular amongst the otkazat’sya, with the governments of Fjerda and Shu Han offering their own Grisha as tributes.
As Ravka’s only shadow summoner, Aleksander had won his first Games at thirteen, the first year that had eight tributes competing instead of the traditional seven. His victory has allowed him to live in the capital as a mentor ever since, though no other shadow summoners have been discovered yet.
Considered far too young to watch the Games by your mother, you hadn’t seen Aleksander’s power on display as he emerged victorious after a vicious fight to the death with a tidemaker the same age as him.
But the year Alina had been discovered as the sun summoner, you were old enough to watch as she wielded her light ferociously against her opponents. As another unique summoner, Aleksander had been assigned as her mentor.
The year Alina had entered was an event for the history books. In a dramatic twist, the Gamemaster sent Aleksander into the arena and the audience had watched with morbid delight as he had slayed countless tributes to find a wounded Alina.
It was all the people could talk about, whether he would be able to find her in time.
When it came down to them as the final two in the arena, an announcement was made, and they became the first ever dual winners of the Grisha Games. People had been elated, celebrating in the streets, and the parties had lasted all night long.
Some people still believe they should have fought to the death. There can only be one victor of the Games. But looking at the two of them now, their hands clasped together as they sit with their shoulders touching, you cannot imagine either one of them killing the other.
“How long have you known that you’re Grisha?” Alina asks you.
“Since I was ten. My mother always knew I was different, so she made sure I was never tested. I don’t think she ever knew exactly how different I was.”
“You can summon at will?” Aleksander asks.
Briefly, you glance down at the silver cuffs that encircle each of your wrists, you’re allowed normal movement wearing them but they prevent you from using your power. Then you look back at Aleksander and nod.
He studies your expression for a moment, before he nods slowly in acknowledgement.
“Keep that to yourself for the moment. We’ll use it to our advantage.”
The months before Alina had entered the arena, support for her had been mixed. Some people thought her unique power of sunlight was a blessing that would carry her to instantaneous victory.
However, the footage from training sessions and interviews with her had many people convinced that she was a naive young woman with a limited grasp of her abilities.
Now, you wonder how much of that had been a manipulation technique crafted by the man in front of you, who had been subjected to the cruelty of the Games at a young age and has been dealing with the whims of the nobility ever since.
“You’ll be living with us for the next six months,” Alina informs you, though you already knew that.
“Next week, you’re to meet the King,” Aleksander adds.
Nerves bloom in your stomach at the thought of displaying your power to the Court and Aleksander seems to notice your apprehension as he settles his free hand over yours.
“We shall be right by your side.”
“Until it’s time for me to fight to the death against seven other people.”
“Until then,” he agrees. “We will do all we can to ensure that you are prepared for the Games.”
The sound of people gathered on the streets, clamouring for a look at the couple’s first ever tribute, reaches your ears and you’re tempted to cower away from the windows even though the decorative layer of lace acts as a curtain to shield you from their view.
“What do you want me to be?” you ask quietly.
They both stare questioningly at you.
In response, you nod in the direction of Aleksander and begin to explain.
“Before your Games you were small and unassuming, an intentional underdog. Afterwards you’re mysterious and aloof.”
Glancing at Alina, you observe the curious tilt of her head and the intrigued spark in her eyes.
“Before, everyone thought you were innocent and helpless, then strong and brave during the Games, and now you’re Os Alta’s darling.”
Nervously, you look down at your tattered clothing that had been torn during the struggle after your power had been revealed - when you had tried to escape.
Aleksander leans closer, hooking a finger beneath your chin so that you meet his dark eyes. His gaze flickers over your features as if he is attempting to memorise every inch.
“You are going to be undeniable in your power. You will show them that you are bright and beautiful and something remarkable.”
Alina brushes a few strands of hair from your face, smoothing it gently back into place as Aleksander traces a delicate line along your jaw to keep your eyes on the two of them as he continues to speak.
“They will all want you by their side, and not a single one of them will be deserving as your equal.”
His words have you spellbound by his casual confidence, as if he is speaking this all into existence.
“You are going to be our little star,” Alina says softly with a smile that has warmth blooming in your chest. “You’ll never have to hide yourself, ever again.”
Then the carriage jerks to a stop at the gates of the Morozova estate. A crowd has formed by the entrance, otkazat’sya commoners all eager to catch a glimpse of you.
Aleksander steps out of the carriage first, smoothing down the front of his black kefta as his dark eyes skim over the crowd.
He then extends his hand for Alina and the sound of the crowd intensifies at the sight of the sun summoner glistening in her black and gold kefta.
Inhaling shakily, you close your eyes and attempt to draw some strength from Aleksander’s words. You are going to be undeniable.
Head held high, you take Aleksander and Alina’s waiting hands as you step down onto the cobbled path. Some people in the crowd openly weep, whilst others make the symbol of the saints with their hand.
The reverent whispers of your name send a shiver down your spine and as you step through the gates Aleksander ducks his head down to murmur against your ear,
“We are going to change the world, little star.”

It's a little funny that most folk think of linux as this overcomplicated mess that you see in tv/movies. No GUI just multiple terminals and a billion commands to remember.
Meanwhile I just... turn my computer on. It literally just looks like any other OS, except I can customize it any way I want to. I mean hell, on a lot of distros you probably never even TOUCH the terminal. There's normal GUI options for just about everything.
Hell, my 60 year old dad took to it within a few hours.
I mean, here - this is my desktop I use every day:

My most pedantic autistic opinion is that, while I understand that MacOS/Windows is more familiar to most people, if you're going to use OSes as a metaphor for neurotype, autism is Linux and NTs are Windows - ADHD is actually MacOS and AuDHDers are dual-booting Linux and a hackintosh
