This was (mostly) suggested by Salvestro on this month's Patreon suggestion box! His original idea was his character Nathan (right) teaching Tem the longsword, but I imagine Tem being a pretty proficient swordsman (swordsott?) so the idea felt out-of-character for me. I thought adapting it to Tem and Nathan simply having fun with their weapons, and being on a more even level of experience/skill, would be better!

The other recent arrival is this finely detailed silver hilted French smallsword. The blade is marked:
Guyon L'aine au Roy De La Chine Sur Le Pont St Michel a Paris
Which translates to:
Guyon (The Elder) to The King of China St Michel Bridge Paris.
Tumblr media
Guyon was a sword cutler from about 1750 to 1767. And the St Michel Bridge was a retail address in Paris. Given the way shops were identified at the time, and the lack of a king in China, it is most likely that “The King of China” was a shop name that Guyon worked from to sell his swords.
There are three stamps on one of the annelets that are likely to be hallmarks, but I am still trying to identify them so can’t confirm if the hilt is silver or not, but given the wear on the decorations I believe it to be likely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(If anyone can identify them, please let me know)
Tumblr media
The caduceus of Hermes (Roman - Mercury) features prominently in the decorations and this association with commerce could indicate that the sword belonged to a wealthy merchant (since the hilts were made to order from patterns). Unfortunately, we’ll never know, but it is fun to speculate.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, even though it is 10 grams lighter than the smallsword with the boatshell guard. It’s more forward point of balance makes it feel slightly heavier in the hand.
Overall Length: 912 mm
Blade Length: 760 mm
Grip Length: 116 mm
Inside Grip Length: 82 mm
Weight: 420 grams
Point of Balance: 105 mm

This highlighted line from General Reynier’s State of Egypt after the Battle of Heliopolis was enough to enrage General Destaing (spelled D’Estin here) to the point of challenging Reynier to a duel, during which Reynier shot Destaing dead.
Napoleon banished Reynier to Italy for a while but he later ended up commanding corps in Austria, Spain, and Russia.

Schyldertown's premier stadium is up and running and while it may not be a proper baseball stadium (and perhaps too thin for any football), it can be proudly used for duelling or jousting and the like.
If you want to see the stadium, or Schyldertown, for yourself, why not join the creative free-build Minecraft server Zest Creative? You can go to this discord for more information: https://discord.gg/mZ8TRHMDuJ

Given the fact that the United States Navy was dwarfed by the North American squadron and could not compete with the Royal Navy as a whole, its officers turned to commerce raiding and single-ship actions to carry out the war. Both had some strategic merit, but only victory in single-ship actions could satisfy the American officers' need for recognition and honour. Given the rarity of encountering lone enemies at sea, captains from both navies turned to issuing formal challenges in an attempt to 'propagate or redeem their personal or national honour through engagements with similar warships.' In many ways it was an extension of the duelling culture prominent in both naval communities. While technically illegal, both the Royal Navy and United States Navy overlooked duellists even in cases when officers were killed. Prearranged duels over matters of honour had long been established in military and naval culture in Europe and the European New World, and in the conditions of the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, these traditions were translated into the theatre of war.
— Nicholas James Kaizer, Revenge in the Name of Honour: The Royal Navy's Quest for Vengeance in the Single Ship Actions of the War of 1812
Victory at Sea: USS Constitution vs HMS Java by Patrick O'Brien, 2018.

Two versus the world☂️
A new trend of team-duelling has taken over hogwarts.
It started in the major leagues and trickled down into the school yard. The students heard whispers of multiple duellers fighting each other simultaneously. The idea was chaotic alone, so of course the students were thrilled.
It seemed fun to duel in a group, like a five versus five match sounded epic in theory. But it’s a nightmare to organise everyone’s style of magic casting and their movements. So, two versus two became the popular choice amongst the students.
Naturally, everyone and their best buddy have been racing to the practice duel stages to work out their teamwork strategies. The trend has been so explosive that Lee Jordan, and his friends, have taken it upon themselves to set up an underground student run tournament.
Matches at lunchtime and after class happened daily.
Harry and Ron are a particularly fierce duo.
With Harry’s instincts and Ron’s skills in strategy, they have a strong chance of beating the current gryffindor champs, the Weasley twins.
Well that was the plan,
The day before the match, Harry had a run in with Malfoy.
Luckily no punches were thrown, the teachers quickly tore them apart before that could happen. Strangely, Professor McGonagall knew exactly what punishment to give them this time.
It turns out the teachers were well aware of the team duelling matches taking place.
Now, If they wanted to participate in ANY of the upcoming duelling matches, they would have to duel as a team. Under no circumstances are they allowed to duel in a different pair for 2 months.
At first they were crushed. Both Harry and Draco wanted to use the competition to prove their capabilities alongside their friends. What are they going to do now?
The twins mocked Harry incessantly.
‘I thought you and Ron were going to ‘knock us down a peg?’’ They’d scoff.
It got to the point where Harry and Draco had to at least try to work as a team. They were dying to take part before the trend inevitably ended. They knew then the two months were up, the matches would probably be forgotten.
The first time they practiced together it was a nightmare. They constantly clashed. But as soon as they found their rhythm - it finally all clicked.
They’ve been fighting with each other for years so they actually knew each other’s styles pretty well, once they set aside their differences they were a force to be reckoned with.
They entered the tournament as a team. The rest of the student body thought it was a joke. Harry and Draco, working together? Surely not.
But when they stepped out to duel Seamus and Dean.
Harry and Draco won in less than a minute.
The audience was stunned, they knew that separately Harry and Draco were strong in their own ways. But together, they’re were power house!
They crushed team after team. Breezed through them really.
At first they’d win and part ways, then they’d win and high-five. When they finally beat the twins, Harry ran over and lifted malfoy in the air with joy.
It was hard to stay enemies after that victory. They even have plans to duel students from other schools.
They began to hang out after practice, after classes and on the odd weekend.
It wasn’t just to talk about duelling strategies, they discovered they actually had a lot in common. They would never admit it, but hanging out with the other was really fun.
It wasn’t long before they started to trust each other. And eventually, depend on each other.
When Harry first saw Draco whole-heartily laugh, as their duo-casted expelliarmus hit the dummy target straight in the chest, Harry knew his was in trouble.
———-
Thanks for reading! ☔️
The idea was based on the pro-bending matches in ATLA

How I Unironically Ended Up Maining Tori in Duel Links (and finally garnered a respect for Synchros)
Tumblr media
Yeah... I’m a guy for starters and even as a big fan of Zexal, Kotori was never one of my favourite characters. I think her and Yuma work really well platonically and I like her slow burn kind of in the background friendship with Cathy but I never cared much for her as a character. She worked well as a foil to Yuma in early Zexal but that started to fade overtime.
And then I got to Stage 10 of Zexal and when Yuma encounters Kotori, she has been utterly destroying other duellists in Duel Links and is in such a rage over being abandoned that Yuma thought she was possessed by a number. But no. She became a great duellist from rage and spite alone, which was hilarious.
Yet despite this setup, her starter deck, even by Duel Links starter deck standards (which always suck), was the worst one I’d ever seen. And considering YGO’s history of being sexist as shit, I figured this bad starter deck was the result of that sexism and took it upon myself to build Tori the best deck I possibly could, as building decks for the characters is possibly my favourite part of this game. It’s like an art in a way and I love creating art.
I set only one rule for myself: all the cards need to be light attribute. Because the few cards in her starter deck that weren’t utter trash, greatly complimented a light deck. So I built the deck based on that and XYZ summoning (since one of her skills has to do with XYZ summoning and that’s the easiest summoning mechanic for me to pull off anyways), slowly adding more and better monsters overtime. This deck and Playmaker’s were the two that drove me to buying card packs and using U/R tickets for the first time, but Tori’s deck in particular I’ve become obsessed with making it as good as it can be. Because at some point, I’m not sure exactly when, I went from thinking of this deck as Tori’s to think of it as mine. Because it was the only deck in Duel Links I built purely based on my own strategies, rather than using the cards they used in the show. It felt like I was coming into my own as a duellist.
If I had to pinpoint a moment where I began thinking of this deck as mine though, it would be when I got this card:
Tumblr media
Avenging Knight Parshath. I don’t even know how good it is in the grand scheme of things. All I know was that I got it and some level four tuners randomly and it fit so perfectly and naturally into my deck. I had never heard of this card before I saw it yet somehow, I feel like this card was meant to be with me. Like it was calling to me, maybe to tell me to stop jokingly bashing synchros, maybe just to aid me in my recently started journey but after only a couple days of having it in my deck, I’ve grown attached to this card. And the entire deck I’ve built, a feeling always expressed in every Yugioh that I never quite understood until now. Maybe it’s not the “best” deck, but it’s my deck and I trust it.
Let’s see how well that trust serves me in my first master duel with a version of this deck I built to duel my sibling tomorrow...

I never want to hear you say that again
“Fine!” he huffed, conceding defeat. What else was he supposed to do with Bella’s wand pointed at his chest, poking into it so hard it (almost) hurt? One thing was sure. He’d never again make the mistake of commenting on the female lack of orientation in the battlefield with Bella present. “Fine then, let’s see whether your male orientation skills are so much better, Rodolphus Lestrange,” she had said, challenging him to a duel while they’d been training. The older Death Eaters had laughed, considering it an easy win for the Lestrange heir. But they didn’t know Bella like he did. He’d have declined if it wasn’t for his own pride, afraid that the other men would deem him weak. So he’d accepted, and ultimately lost. “To a woman,” he could hear one of the others sneer. As Bella turned he could see their faces, laughing at him. “His own fiancée.” Before they could say another word, he’d sent another spell her way, catching her by surprise as she hadn’t thought he’d want to continue. He seized the moment and sent two other spells, which she dodged, before the third one, a disarming spell, hit her and her wand flew from her hand. “Really, Rodolphus?” She narrowed her eyes. “That one was low, attacking from behind.” Rodolphus shrugged his shoulders, sweat running down his back from the effort it had taken to duel her. “I never said I’d play fair.” He knew she wouldn’t let that one go.
