Theory: Duke in resident evil 8 is like the megamycete. His caravan is made of mold or held together by mold. And he is made of mold too. He and his caravan can pop down into the ground. Maybe the place he's in, in Lady D's castle, is a spot where he can shift into himself and form his caravan from mold. The Duke has existed at least around the time of the original four lords. And maybe he can kinda read people's minds on what they want/is super smart and can kinda predict what to sell to people. And he can quickly get wares by mold transportation.
