Would you rather be M's 00 agent or Orlando's kings(wo)man and why? Let's imagine in both cases they try to keep you at a professional distance.
First of all, I would like to stress how excited I am to answer this! Dear Anon, you've just asked me a question I never knew I wanted to receive, but at the same time it makes me feel so... accepted & appreciated. :')
But let's get to the point.
I would rather be a double-0 working under the supervision of the world’s finest man for the MI6. It seems to me that the SIS is organized more clearly in terms of structure than the Kingsman Agency is. The latter gives an impression of a spy family where the leader (Arthur) is just the same type of an agent as the other members are, the only difference being he’s got some additional duties like the responsibility for the organization’s efficency, appointing the agents to their missions etc. (this does apply most of all to Orlando Oxford, but I assume Chester King might have been a similarly active figure in his younger years. I know we don’t see it in the films, though). Perhaps this way of organizing the Kingsman is partly caused by the lack of the politics and bureaucracy that undermine the intelligence of government-run spy organisations, to quote Harry Hart. Such system has got its pros and cons, but for me, it would be a disadvantage. I’d prefer to know where I stand: who do I work for (the English government/the citizens etc.), who is my colleague (James Bond) and who’s the main man (M). Such hierarchy and a greater distance between me and my supervisor would definitely help me to be a true professional.
If they both refused to cross the line, it also would be easier for me to work for Mallory rather than Oxford. I’ve already accepted the fact that M probably wouldn’t be interested in having an affair with one of his agents (or at least this would be my perception of him). It’s not like I would stop dreaming about him if we kept it professional, but I feel this platonic love of mine - learning from him, seeing him regularly in his office, and obeying his orders - could be enough for me. Yes, I love the man that much. But it also depends on what Mallory would feel for me - if I knew he didn't fancy me, I could swallow this bitter pill and remain in the service, but if he did fall for me, but suppressed the feelings, it would be too humiliating to continue working.
With Oxford it could cause great confusion, because I see him as a man who is more open to a new relationship than Mallory is (yes, I remember what happened to Emily, but I feel that after some time Oxford could truly love again). I wouldn’t be able to understand how such a caring, gentle man could remain immune to my charm go to waste, and at the end of the day it would be too frustrating for me to work for the Kingsman. Especially if Polly was around, kissing Orlando in front of me.
And apart from that, I am a Bond fan in the first place, so naturally this double-0 world is more appealing to me.
Thank you so much for this!!
Love from
Katherine xx

This comparison immediately crossed my mind in the cinema. Not a parallel in a strictest sense, but... it’s the same idea and it shows

the absolute audacity/sheer hilarity for the king's man(2021) movie to write this young, sheltered, noble^2 pretty boy™ conrad oxford with his overprotective father spending his nineteenth(19th!) birthday at his cousin, the russian prince's, party. in which at this same soiree, conrad is then told to seduce the Lover of the Russian Queen™ resident creepy-as-fuck royal priest Rasputin himself. like.
imagine being conrad.
baby's first mission, all wide-eyed and trying so hard to get this right but also you've never done this before and you've just been asked to 'entice' a man three(3) times your age. this man who looks like he hasn't bathed in two years looks over at you across the dinner table, very much undressing you with his eyes, and tells you "russians fuck like tigers" and then he starts growling. GROWLING.
he's actively trying to seduce you back?? are you being seduced?? who knows bc then he calls you boring, implies he'd prefer to fuck your dad tonight Actually, and does a weird blood ritual with said papa in the other room(the room you are waiting outside of! with your ear to the door!), and who then tries to drown your father and kill your butler, still calls you beautiful and says he'd rather die by your hands before being promptly shot by your gun-toting nanny.
then a few hours later you're blowing the NINETEEN candles on your birthday cake because you're finally NINETEEN and you did all of this on your NINETEENTH birthday.
i'm in awe, i'm astounded, i'm stupefied what was this movie

[Image Description: A man with light skin, long pink hair, dark blue eyeshadow, and violet eyes with different colored rings in the center. The eye on the viewer's left has a turquoise ring, while the other has a maroon ring and is very watery with the sclera red from irritation and the pupil severely dilated. He is holding this eye slightly wider with his fingers, which have maroon painted nails, as he leans over a counter. He is wearing dark blue robes with a light blue collar, a blue undershirt, and a light blue belt with a silver buckle and blue circular accessories. A pair of dark blue gloves are shoved into the belt. There is a roll of pale blue cloth and a brown bottle with a white label featuring a red plus-shape on the counter beside him. The room behind him has a blue wall and brown floor, with a sunset visible through the two tall windows. End ID.]

I'unno, I just felt like the aftermath of the fight between Duke and Indra needed a bit more visualization. Even though the attack was pure light, it's better to be safe than sorry and make sure that sucker's cleaned up and bandaged for a bit. Might as well survey the damage first tho...

How would Katherine react to the following?
M has a private breakdown in his office because he feels responsible for Bond's death and the damage caused by Project Heracles.
Orlando accidentally reveals less-than-professional feelings after (let's imagine she's a Kingsman) Katherine is presumed killed on a mission yet returns unexpectedly.
Voldy tries to recruit her for the Death Eaters as part of a secret plan to take over the Ministry (here, she's a very talented witch who isn't known for sympathizing with his cause; you pick the blood status, house, and magical profession).
1. She would never allow herself to blame Mallory for any of that (not in a sense that she would be aware of his responsibility, but still denied it. She would rather naively believe he hasn't done anything wrong, as taking risks is in fact M's job).
I imagine she would step into his office unannounced (when Moneypenny wasn't around), wanting to just deliver some very important files, and then she would realize she shouldn't have done that, but it would be too late. At first, she'd blame herself for being so careless, but then would delicately ask M if she can do anything for him, adding that he shouldn't be so hard on himself. If the breakdown continued, she would hesitate for a moment (analysing if what she had in mind would be appropriate), but her soft side would quickly take over, making her walk to the other side of M's desk. She could assure him of her loyalty, touch his shoulder or even embrace him if he needed it. All with respect and tactfulness, cause she would never intend to use his torrid time to her own advantage.
2. If Orlando revealed that to someone else after her presumed death, and she found out later, I'm sure she would want to ask him about it as soon as possible. At first, the news would be heartwarming, but soon she'd begin to worry how it might affect her position in the Agency (she'd also wonder if Orlando would be ready to admit the truth). She would definitely try to deal with this professionally (making it clear that she wants to continue working for the Kingsman), but would carefully observe Oxford's reaction. If she saw a slightest chance that Orlando really wants something more from her, she would confess (not without difficulty) how she feels about him.
If he accidentally spilled the beans during their first one-on-one encounter just after she came back, I'm 100% sure she would act more impulsively (for example respond with a shy kiss on the cheek as she leaves). But we all know she wouldn't be able to restrain herself once she'd come so close to him, so... a passionate kiss that is! Damn the consequences!
3. In my mind she's a half-blood, a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin (probably Ravenclaw) who works for the Ministry of Magic (in the Department of Mysteries, perhaps? The job of an Unspeakable is the closest in its nature to the one of a spy, I suppose). I assume she wouldn't like to switch sides, so after discovering about Voldemort's plans, she would look for a place where she could hide for a while (to calm down and think about her next move). Then she would contact her dear friends, hoping that they would agree to help her resolve this (and face the Dark Lord together if necessary).
Thank you Anon, I had a great time answering this ♥️

What Does It Takes to Have Civil Discourse in the Classroom?
What Does It Takes to Have Civil Discourse in the Classroom?
2022-08-29 13:33:17 When Agnes Bolinska was an undergraduate, she didn’t talk much in class. “I was scared of being judged, and I was scared of saying the wrong thing,” said Bolinska, who is now an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina. “I would have learned more if I wasn’t like that.” She later found that speaking, in and of itself, is a powerful way to explore…

This is one part of The Duke Humfrey's Library which was added by Sir Thomas Bodley (who the Bodleian is now named after) who offered to restore it in 1598. When he was attending Oxford University, the library did not even have a ceiling as it had been stripped and abandoned during the Reformation.
