The War Hollow
Viking influence in the Celtic lands goes back to the very beginning of the Viking Age, when men from Scandinavia decided to make the perilous journey across the seas to take what treasures they could. One of these Viking raiders was Magnus Olaffson (Magnús Óláfsson), better known as Magnus Barelegs or Barefoot, the king of Norway from 1093 until his death in 1103. His aggressive military…

Dunluce Castle
flickr
Dunluce Castle by FotoFling Scotland Via Flickr: Dunluce Castle is a now-ruined medieval castle in Northern Ireland, the seat of Clan MacDonnell. It is located on the edge of a basalt outcropping in County Antrim (between Portballintrae and Portrush), and is accessible via a bridge connecting it to the mainland. The castle is surrounded by extremely steep drops on either side, which may have been an important factor to the early Christians and Vikings who were drawn to this place where an early Irish fort once stood.

In the Liturgical calendar, it is the Feast day of Lorcán Ua Tuathail (St Laurence O’Toole), the first Archbishop of Dublin and the city’s patron saint. It is on this date in 1180 that he died at Eu in Normandy. 1669 – St. Oliver Plunkett becomes Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland. 1832 – Birth near Letterkenny, Co Donegal of Stopford Brooke, chaplain-in-ordinary to Queen Victoria,…

An updated list of Game of Thrones filming locations in Ireland – Northern Ireland to be specific.
Most of them are quite familiar such as Castle Ward (Winterfell) and The Dark Hedges. But there are some locales I hadn't known about.
The coolest of those is Dunluce Castle which served, with some help from CGI, as the Seat of House Greyjoy at Pyke. It's on the coast, just a bit west of Portballintrae. Your imagination will have to fill in the foot bridge connecting to an annex on top of another rock formation.

^^^ It's actually a ruin, but Pyke Castle looks sort of weathered anyway. Dunluce Castle probably looks more Greyjoy-ish just after sunset or just before sunrise.
