For my followers not aware of what is happening in my country. Please spread awareness. Please share.
We're scared and feeling hopeless right now.
Especially communities like the LGBTQ community, refugees, immigrants, and the islamic community.

Amber I'm so sorry! Even having lived in this hellscape for 5 years I never really thought Wilders would get elected and with such a big difference too???? Also the fact that he talked about limiting the refugee intake already in his first speech?? I'm truly terrified for you guys, I was thinking of returning to nl but know?? I'm just truly sorry oof
thank you, it’s just fucking devastating and horrendous and utterly baffling 🥲 once he started talking I just screamed and yelled and cursed at my tv for a good ten minutes I can’t BELIEVE this racist fascist piece of SHIT who we have been clowning since fucking 2006 GOT THIRTY FIVE SEATS????????? I thought we all agreed to never take him seriously??????????
I can explain it I get how it happened but fact of the matter is that the left fights for people’s right to exist and the far right…………. wants to ban the quran (actual words that have left this man’s mouth) and get rid of migrants? actively put people in danger because of bigotry? how is that a level playing field these are NOT the same stakes
I knew we had a problem. I knew we were polarising more and more because it’s happening everywhere but THIS? with THIS many people? I have genuinely never felt this unsafe in my own country
my only hope is that no one wants to rule with this piece of shit and they’ll do a formation without him (yay for Dutch democracy I guess that this is even within the realm of possibility) but even then I can’t unknow what this country really thinks. of me, of anyone who slightly differs from their ideal, of anyone who isn’t them.
what the hell. what the hell.

nightmarish waking up in a country where i had to explain to a turkish friend last night what this all meant, seeing her type out: now there are two countries that do not want me.
i try looking for silver linings but i am not finding them today. yes of course the left-wing party is second biggest but it does not mean anything, especially as it's basically the same amount of votes - the leftist group of voters has not grown, and the price is that we have lost the one antiracist & anticolonial party that is actively pro-palestine and not homophobic.
even 'oh but young people would have voted differently' while that's true, is still not all that hopeful. young people would have voted more fascists and also conspiracy theorists into the government.
and then the media trying to portray these elections in a semi-neutral way, as if politics is all laws of nature, as if their framings and attention do not mean anything - what a surprise some parties do not get votes when these parties are not even invited to debates nor ever discussed in any serious way. what a surprise when polls are presented as if they just happen, as if presenting them will not inadvertently influence the voters and their strategies.
you know i am an angry person most days when it comes to politics. i argue and i rant and i go to protests and shout. but my anger stems from a belief in change, an optimism things can become better, a frustration we are not working towards better. it stems from a hopeful part of myself.
but today i am tired, and very sad. i did not want to get out of bed. asking myself what then did i expect. that's... that there is dangerous, you know. that's looking at politics as if it's some natural phenomenon we all take no part in. it's cynisism. slipping into resignation. laughing because at least i have a job, or something. you can roll your eyes while accepting a status quo, but then you're still accepting the status quo.
this party is against everything i believe in. and it's not just this party - it's three of the four biggest parties. it's the parties that might actually form a coalition. i will give myself today to grieve. tomorrow i will get up and look for a fight.

What happened in The Netherlands?
The Dutch elections have created a shockwave in The Netherlands, Europa and beyond. Rightfully so, because the results of the elections were beyond shocking.
For those who wonder what happened, I'd like to try and explain it. First of all, elections in The Netherlands are not managed by districts. All votes count the same and each party that would get 1 seat (out of 150) or more earns a place in parliament.
Tumblr media
This is the second electoral shockwave within 1 year in The Netherlands. Earlier in March, when the provincial parliaments were elected, the 'BBB' won: the party for farmers. This time the 'PVV' won: the Party For Freedom. All the blue areas were the areas where the PVV won, the red areas had the most votes for the combined Labour/Greens-list, blue is the conservative-liberal party, yellow is a center-right party and orange is a very conservative Christian party, that only won 3 seats, but did win some municipalities.
What does the PVV stand for? The PVV is a conservative party, against immigration, climate action, lgbti-people and mainly the islam. They are against the EU. The party is seen as far-right, but during campaigns they also focus on left-wing subjects, such as healthcare and salaries.
The PVV was founded in 2006, by Geert Wilders. In 17 years, they never entered the government, though they did carry responsibility between 2010 and 2012, when they supported a conservative right-wing government, that ended because Wilders did not support them anymore.
The PVV, despite the name, has just 1 member: Geert Wilders himself. The party is notorious for having controversy about people on their list. They had a man who peed in a mailbox, someone who was accused of forcing his wife to have sex with his security and Wilders himself was convicted for racist remarks, when he made a crow cheer they wanted less Moroccan people in The Netherlands. Wilders was also awarded a 'friend of Russia' price by Putin, and despite the fact that the PVV says to support Ukraine, they are against real support for the Ukrainian people.
Tumblr media
All the above makes it hard for me to understand why people would vote for his party. Still, there must be reasons. Plenty of people that I know voted for the PVV, and very few of them are racists. Then why would they vote for a racist party?
I guess the answer is, that a lot of people don't feel that the welfare that the general Dutch society has, has landed at the right places. Like in the US, there is a lot in inequality in The Netherlands.
So currently, some parties are negotiating a new government. The PVV, the liberal-conservative VVD, the center-conservative NSC and the populistic farmers party BBB. They absolutely don't think the same about climate, migration or even basic human rights. Still, it currently seems to where were standing, even if these negotiations are already proving to be one of the longest in Dutch history. If this coalition will happen, it will be a dark time for lgbti+ people, for the climate or for migrants. Racism is growing in The Netherlands and it deeply saddens me.
Already, transcare, nature resoration and a growth of minimum wage have been put on hold. I could mention many more things. But we will need to see what happens. A sad time for sure.
