Time Princess: Story Traveller, hereafter referred to by their earlier name Dress Up Time Princess (DUTP), is a mobile game that combines elements of a visual novel and dress up game. Players have a certain amount of stamina every day that they use to play stages, earn blueprints, and craft clothing, which is then worn to pass stages. Most stages will offer choices, ranging from flavor text dialogue choices to significant choices that will unlock different endings and drastically affect the storyline. 

In the game the story is that your character, hereafter referred to MC, is transported into different worlds through a magical book. Romance is a common element across most of the stories, with story companions being fully animated and needing to be interacted with daily to level up the relationship and unlock certain blueprints and stages. The app is rated G for General Audiences but individual stories may delve into more mature subjects; this blog will provide trigger warnings based on topics discussed, but as a rule topics such as character death, injuries, and non graphic violence are discussed and will not have warnings. Feel free to send an ask if you have questions about these trigger warnings, either in game or in this blog.

Favorite DUTP books aside from SoL?

This probably isn’t that surprising but House of Horrors.

Romy and Julius was so off the wall that I do look back on it fondly but it wasn’t foreshadowed as much as it should have been imo. I enjoyed The Poet side story from Magic Lamp more than Magic Lamp itself.

I’m working slowly through Have You Seen Claudia? right now and like it alright but there’s several parts I’m just 🤔🤔🤔 about.

The plan next was Golden Age but because of crafting requirements I think I’ll bump White Snake up my list, since I like that take a lot.

some dutp shadow of london maybe-let's see what happens-potential fic-thoughts under the cut, because I'm still kind of embarrassed that that what I'm apparently interested right now

okay, okay, so fair warning: I haven't actually finished Shadow of London yet. I think I'm somewhere along the lines of 1-16? But I don't think that's too important, since my thoughts are leaning way more into AU territory anyway.

The problem began, you see, when I realised that I liked the dynamic between Caroline and Jesse way more than between Caroline and either love interest. Which - as I said I haven't finished SoL - might change in the future, but it so far it doesn't seem that way.

And I just really enjoy the idea of these two being absolute besties and starting to slowly crush on each other. And it's fun! They are having a great time, going to on little adventures and just generally having a ball. They can joke with each other and be themselves.

Aaand then one day they are taking a stroll through the park, talking shit, having a great time, what friends do. And then it comes to a mock proposal (I like the idea of Caroline saying something and Jesse being all "But Miss Rayes!!! Are you proposing to me?!?!?! I'm scandalized!!" and Caroline kind of going "So, what if I am?") and to them it's all very clearly a joke, a stupid joke but still a joke. Only that someone overhears and runs home to tell everyone, because did you hear Mr. Lindvall and Miss Rayes are engaged!! Betrothed if you will!! The news of the season!!

And now Caroline and Jesse are faced with a situation where everyone thinks they are engaged, they can't exactly break of the engagement - because everyone would ask why and whatever answer they find, it probably wouldn't look good for Caroline - and they both slowly realise "wait a second, I actually don't mind this"

So I've looked around the dutp reddit and found an interesting headcanon/theory; Jesse is also a traveler, just like Emma/Mc.

This headcanon/theory is used to explain in-universe* why we keep seeing Jesse look-alikes with minor changes. (I have a similar hc that when travelers go in stories, their appearances stay the same, but some stuff like haircolor/length and eyes change (see barbie and the red shoe))

Basically, he enters the same books, but as different characters and his death in SoL is his traveler getting a bad ending.

*we know that the real reason is because they just reuse the 2d art a lot
