hibiscia!!! Sorry if youve explained before but is there something specific about reset-remember fics that you hate? I don't really like them either but for me it's just because I feel like a lot of authors type sans in very ooc ways
They're completely antithetical to Sans' character arc for the sake of cheap and easy angst. The nature of his brand of cosmic horror isn't in reliving his life again and again, that's Flowey's. Sans knows OF the anomaly, knows that it's manipulating time and knows it's a threat to the entire universe, but he doesn't know how or why, because he doesn't remember.
And that's crucial! him being mostly in the dark in spite of the MANY warning signs about us... because it's in that doubt that he remains hopeful. YES we could potentially end the world... but what if we don't? yes we have unimaginable power over everyone else and we can bring back time, but what if we're just.... sad? he needs that gap in his knowledge so he can take a leap of faith across it, it's his entire character arc in the pacifist run. sans THINKS he's given up, he wants to have given up, he chose to do it because there's a comfort in that. in contenting yourself with good food and bad laughs. there's peace. but he hasn't given up, not really. on himself? maybe. but not in us.
there's no way to have that arc if he remembers resets.

I honestly don't know how many more times and in how many more ways i can say this anymore but saying it again anyway. A show that is so intensely focused on exploring the themes of racism and abuse and how those interfere, and whose writers are clearly intelligent and well-educated on the subject, is not going base its entire plot and character dynamics on an abusive relationship between the main characters, have a graphic depiction of domestic violence where a black man is brutally assaulted by his white partner, and then treat the whole thing as a gimmicky plot twist where abuse victims are unreliable narrators about their own abuse and the white abuser is absolved of his sins because it was actually an evil man of color behind it all.
The writers of this show aren't that stupid. Hell, i don't think even bad soap opera writers would write something that offensive and stupid in the 2020s. Armand can be fucked up and non-sanitized without turning him into a pure evil comic book villain and transferring Lestat's negative qualities and actions onto him. We've known since the beginning that ep5 will be revisited and it's exasperating seeing some fans continue to act like it means that the abuse will be at least partially retconned away as if there weren't literally infinite interesting possibilities how they can revisit and explore the events of that night and what happened before and after it that don't require erasing the abuse in any way.
Lestat's abusiveness and Louis' status as his victim has been talked a million times by the writers and actors and there's nothing that indicates that it's not real. I'm still waiting for people to realize that a highly aggressive, entitled and impulsive man (who in the original book canon does many violent things, including hitting his other lover) becoming physically abusive toward his partner when extremely angry and upset is not some inconceivable ooc moment that needs to be rectified to preserve his honor, but literally the most realistic and predictable outcome imaginable

I think there's a side of radblr that ppl don't really see where women are accepting of mistakes, where they don't shame you for being detransitioned, where being a victim of sex trafficking and resulting trauma responses is handled as the mental health crisis it is instead of a moral failing, but that's not always the community women in need are immediately exposed to when looking for help, and it does worry me that these women will see radical feminists judging them before they see us accepting them and offering help to them. not every woman is perfect, yeah, I agree, and accountability is hugely important, but some of y'all are more focused on ideological purity than helping actual women in real life and it comes off as equally overly online as TRA type stuff. feminism is about helping women, not making sure every woman you help is deserving.

Could you explain why you are ok with ep 5? I hated seeing, yet again, the battered body of a black character beaten to a pulp by his white partner, especially since such violence never happened between Louis and Lestat in the books. While I know white people can't understand and probably couldn't care less, I'm genuinely curious about your take on this.
Hi Anon!
Okay, first I'm sorry this reply back took the long time it did for me to answer it but, aside from wanting to think on it, RL things got in the way too. And then I also got caught up with some other writing I'm doing. And, as I said, I wanted to think this out before I wrote on it.
Now, first of all, it's actually not true wrt the books that Lestat and Louis never fought before. Someone other than myself has taken screenshots of passages in the book ITWV where such fights have happened. So I do not believe that it was out of character at all for them to have even had a fight in such a way, as such things did happen in the books. (And honestly, I didn't think it was OOC for Lestat at the time it happened before people started posting screenshots of the passages in the book that showed them fighting).
What has upset people is how visceral and beaten Louis looked by the end of that fight. (And no one is wrong for feeling that way if they do/did). It is disturbing to see a black man beaten in such a way by his white partner. And I actually don't think the writers were completely unaware of that imagery when they did this either. Not when you take into account the other pointed underlying racial dynamics the show did and highlighted throughout the season, before and after that episode. (From basically all of EP3, to Claudia mocking Louis telepathically with the "massa" talk in EP6.) So no, I do not think they were at all ignorant of the loaded racial imagery in EP5 after that fight.
And whether some views can forgive Lestat for it will be an individual thing, at the end of it all IMO. Some views may never forgive it, and I think that is completely okay. However, for me - and why I not only wasn't that shocked by the fight itself but feel I understand what is going on with it is - is 1.) as said, they did have knock-down fights in the first book, 2.) knowing Lestat does have that level of violence-ability in him as I noted when the episode first aired and 3.) and this is the main point - that there, strategically, some clear missing context going on here wrt that fight.
Because the entirety of that fight never once was told from Louis' POV. Until that moment when Lestat took Louis out into the courtyard and then up into the air, the actual fight itself was all told from Claudia's POV.
And that was clearly a deliberate choice. Not just to highlight what it must have been like for Claudia to witness this but because there is clearly something about that fight that Louis is holding back about. And no, not because he's lying about the fight having happened at all, and him being beaten in such a way. The fight did happen, and Louis did get beaten in the way we saw at the end. Because, again, what we saw of the actual fight was all from Claudia's POV, and Claudia would have no reason to lie about such a thing in her diary, where the account of the fight was clearly taken from.
No, it's because I strongly feel that something was going on during it that I don't think Louis can - even now - really process. And I have a huge suspicion about what it is.
We're now headed into book spoiler territory and I don't know how much you might want those, so I'm going to stop with that here. All I will say is that the pauses in the fight when we heard Lestat's voice talking are very, very important, particularly when it comes to what he's saying.
Part of this, and that fight, has to do with the very nature of what Lestat and Louis, and Claudia all are as vampires. Again, I'm really trying not to spoil anything here, because I suspect the show might reveal some of this in Season 2, particularly wrt Paris and the Theater Coven.
Though I don't think the majority of it will be talked about until Season 3 when we finally get Lestat's POV. And it might even be something that carries on over into multiple seasons.
I understand the POV of people who will never be okay with the fight and the imagery it left wrt Louis. But I really do feel the writers didn't do it without one, knowing how it would look, and two, that there is a larger, overall, story arc point going on here which ties into the fact that we are not dealing with human beings here.
This isn't a story about vampires seeking redemption or a way back to humanity. With Rice's vampires, the longer they live, the more apart from humanity they become. That is, overall, one of the things the VC explores here. And they are all going to continue to do some really inhuman things, at least during these earlier parts of the story, towards people they love.
Over time, even as many of them, especially Lestat, learn better how to deal with that nature, particularly towards those they care about and love, those inhuman things about their nature will still be there.
So I think also having that view, understanding that about these characters, as well as everything else I talked about, (including something I strongly feel they are setting up as to why Lestat acted the way he did), goes into my few of that fight and why, when it happened, I honestly wasn't either surprised by it and am okay and want to see where they go from here with it. This is just all, personally, where I'm coming from it with it of course.

in MY OPINION having a way to EXIT the house is more important to me in terms of safety than blocking all the entrances. realistically a fire or gas leak is far more likely than a house invasion and i do not want to fight with five locks to escape a house fire

Kloktober 2022 - Day 6
Kreate-a-Klokateer
Klokateer #3693, Kevin.
A low-level Klokateer who mainly does menial, less dangerous tasks like cleaning; what he really does, though, is act as a mole for Dio V. Since he has access to pretty much the entirety of Mordhaus as a janitor, he’s gathered lots of information and overheard lots of valuable things that he can send back to Dio V. who then uses that info to trick clients (and in his fake episode, trick Dethklok themselves).
Back when Dio V. was still a lawyer and was practicing under his real name, he’d ended up doing some pro bono work for a young woman. This young woman was Kevin’s mother, and when Kevin grew up, he made it his goal to track down the man who saved his mother’s life. Kevin started work as a paralegal in LA and recognized Dio V. through his many obnoxious ads. Though Dio was annoyed at first, he quickly realized he could easily manipulate this man into doing whatever he wanted. So he convinced Kevin to apply as a Klokateer so he could help him out on his scheme. Unfortunately for Kevin, as he would eventually find out, the man who he considered a savior was just another liar, and regardless of timeline, Kevin does not meet a very favorable fate.
IVV AU ending on left, canon ending on right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kinda fun/weird making a character who ultimately dies no matter what. By the time he dies, regardless if it’s canon or IVV AU, Dio V. and the MMA are already teamed up so it doesn’t really matter. Sorry Kev :/
Also fun fact: the numbers 3693 are derived from the numerology around Dio’s full (fake) name. Wanted to go all in with the themes LMAO

Update
Hey y'all! How's it going?
Um, I just wanted to post a little update, just to let y'all know some of what's going on in my life.
Warning: Mentions of Domestic Violence below
Last night, I posted about my parents arguing. When I made that post, it wasn't too bad yet, but I knew it was going to get worse, a lot worse. Unfortunately, I didn't know how much worse. I'll say right now, that I am fine. I am not injured and I am perfectly well.
But, I did have to step in to interfere with my parents' argument, which is something that I have never really done before. Now, this wasn't the worst they've had, but it was definitely way worse than it's been in years, and I mean years. And when I interfered, my father actually got up in my face, which is also the first time he's shown any aggression towards me. Again, nothing happened and I am fine. But, this does mark a significant change in how I view him in our home. I haven't trusted this man in years, not with my mom, not in our home, and not as the man who I used to call dad.
But now, I am forced to view him as an active threat, not only to myself, but to my mom as well. Because there has been a previous incident of him being physical with my mom, when I was young. I wasn't there for it, I was at my other dad's home. But when I returned to my mom, I had to see the blood stain on the ground in my room, belonging to my mom. And that is a sight that haunts me at this time. It's reminding me of what this man is capable of.
Now, for the time being, I am safe, and I am assuring that my mom is safe as well. But I have to say, that I think my activity on here will be slowing down again.
I am not taking a break, as I believe the current situation does not warrant it, but I do need to focus more on my own life for the time being. Right now, my own family is the center of my attention and I have to focus on that.
So, I guess this is my apology before the fact, letting you all know what's going on and why I may be absent for the next few days.
I love y'all so much, legitimately, I have been having so much fun talking with y'all again. Anyway, see y'all later!
Much love, Rachel <3
