Binary (dyadic) trans man here but I too desperately need people to be more chill about intersex bodies because while I wasn’t popped out of the womb with the body I currently have the amount of people who want to boil me down to “biologically female” or “biologically make” when my body does not work like a dyadic cis person and hasn’t for years and trying to put me in either can only harm anyone with “out of the norm” bodies.
When it’s perfectly fine to just accept that some bodies just,,, don’t fit those two categories for any reason??? More bodies than most people think of too
(My apologies if the wording was off, I’m not used to talking about this much but your post resonated with me)
dw about the wording, im glad it resonated with you!

non-intersex nb here. I don't know why but using "perisex" or "dyadic" is dysphoric. feels like if someone just called me "male" or "female". is it okay to use "non-intersex"?
hi, good question!
if those terms make u feel bad, u definitely do not have to use them, non-intersex works just fine! (x u are also welcome to create your own term if u would like!
thx for stopping by! hope u have a great week! 💙🩷🤍🩷💙 xoxo Trixi

every day I am a bit more inclined to tell people that interphobia is worse than transphobia
I am not even sure if it's factually correct but it drives me crazy that we only ever reduce intersex folk down to being a point of argument against transphobia. Because quite frankly we, as endosex trans people, have the massive advantage of being able to stay in the closet/'hide'. Intersex people CANNOT DO THAT.
Interphobia should be given at least the same amount of attention and resistance as transphobia.

Day 24: Intergender is a gender identity that has two contradictory opinions on how it should be used. Intergender can be used by both dyadic people and intersex people who feel between male and female. Intergender is inappropriate for dyadic people and is to be used only by intersex people because they need words that correlate with their bodies. Dyadic people should use a different word such as androgyne. #lgbtpride #lgbtqpride #lgbtqiapride #lgbtrights #lgbtq #lgbtqia #lgbtqiaplus #gay #pride #intergenderrights #genderidentity #intergenderpride #intersex #dyadic #gayrights #intergender #gaypride #humanrights #betweenbinary #identity #queer #gender #intergenderflag #intergenderprideday #betweenmaleandfemale #intergenderpositivity #pridemonth #pridemonth2022 (at Pride Month) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfLXBbIv_lN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dyadic People are Non-Intersex People. Dyadic People are born with sexual anatomy, genitalia, a reproductive system, and chromosomes that align with the "female" or "male" standard.

Almost an academic author: Appendix B: Representation of Dyadics via Geometric Algebra
Almost an academic author: Appendix B: Representation of Dyadics via Geometric Algebra
I corresponded for a bit with the author of a paper on variations and inconsistencies with dyadic notation that is used in some fluid flow and other problems.  In the end I ended up contributing an appendix (Appendix B: Representation of Dyadics via Geometric Algebra) to their paper, which has been submitted to an academic journal (I forget which one.) I’ve written thousands of pages of…

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
goodreads
Tumblr media
Middlesex tells the breathtaking story of Calliope Stephanides, and three generations of the Greek-American Stephanides family, who travel from a tiny village overlooking Mount Olympus in Asia Minor to Prohibition-era Detroit, witnessing its glory days as the Motor City and the race riots of 1967 before moving out to the tree-lined streets of suburban Grosse Pointe, Michigan. To understand why Calliope is not like other girls, she has to uncover a guilty family secret, and the astonishing genetic history that turns Callie into Cal, one of the most audacious and wondrous narrators in contemporary fiction. Lyrical and thrilling, Middlesex is an exhilarating reinvention of the American epic.
Mod opinion: I've read this book for a college course on trans stories and I didn't really like it (the other book we read in its entirety for the course was stone butch blues though, so it had tough competition, but I really did not enjoy middlesex because it treats the intersex character horribly). Also note that this book is heavily criticised by intersex activist for its interphobia and fetishization of intersex bodies.

are perisex folks allowed to use the label transfemmasc? i've heard many differing opinions. i'm multigender and feel that both my masculinity and femininity are part of my trans identity, but i'm perisex. sorry if this made no sense haha
that's okay! we get this question a lot and we don't mind trying to answer it!
with us being intersex, we have a very poor grasp on what the perisex experience is like, so I've consulted some of my perisex transfemasc friends to help out!
generally what people say for perisex folks is that you may use it if you find that you are Transitioning in both a masculine and feminine way. it's less about how you identify for that label and more about how you are navigating transition, if that makes sense
just identifying as masculine and feminine isn't quite the same, but if you feel like you are transitioning into both masculinity and femininity then you may use it, even if you're perisex
that's what we've gathered anyways! i don't think its wrong to identify as transfemasc as a perisex person as long as you understand how it's used! every person has their own unique identity and transition experience
hope that made sense! good luck figuring things out, we hope you have a great week!

Perisex person here, asking purely out of curiosity: why are there so many different terms for not-intersex? Like dyadic, perisex, endosex, juxtasex. Are there differences in meaning or connotation? Is there some kind of complex history behind it or do people just not agree? It's interesting that there isn't a consensus for one word. Also, while I'm at it, is there one you personally feel would be best for me to use?
Hey! So they are slightly different in meaning and usage, even though they all basically mean the same thing. I'll share what i've learned, but other intersex people please feel free to add on your intepretations-a lot of this is going to depend on what intersex spaces you're in. There's not one right answer and I only have one perspective!
Dyadic: have seen this used online at least as early as 2011, most likely was being used earlier than that. some intersex people don't like it because they think that since it is based in the prefix "dyad" which means two, that it still reinforces the sex binary. I personally really like the term compulsory dyadism and think that's an incredibly useful concept, but don't use dyadic as much anymore because I don't think it is as popular a term and I want to avoid confusion.
Perisex: coined on tumblr around like....2014? Seems to be used mostly on tumblr. I don't think I've ever seen any in depth critiques of the term but I tend not to use it as much because it hasn't really caught on in any other intersex spaces. nothing wrong with using it, just my preference. Some people in the notes added on that it’s the preferred term in their country, which is awesome!
endosex: coined by Heike Bödeker, a German intersex activist in 2000. Endo means "inner" or "internal" and is used to signify that someone fits within the constructed sex binary. This is the term that seems to be most widely used in physical intersex spaces, and also is used more internationally. For that reason, this is definitely the term I prefer-although we aren't at a consensus in intersex spaces, this seems to be the most popular term in the region I'm in, and lots of resources, materials, language guides, etc, are starting to use it. Of course, that could always change and that's fine!
juxtasex: have never heard it before now. i never have problems with intersex people creating more language to describe our experiences, but am not familiar with it at all!
I would personally recommend sticking with endosex--I think that is the terms you are going to get the most recognition with. It hasn't really become popular on tumblr, because most of us who blog about intersex stuff use perisex or dyadic, but I think that endosex is a really good term to use irl if you want to talk about intersex topics.
as always other intersex people feel free to add on or disagree!

InterACT made a glossary for a large amount of intersex variants! It's not all of them, as the glossary mentioned that new ones are constantly found, but it's one that's mindful of language and gender while trying not to be overly medical.
