just a reminder that no book/movie series will ever be on the level that the hunger games was. the hunger games was THE blueprint. it paved the way for the entire genre of teen dystopian novels/series. every other YA dystopian series wishes it was what the hunger games was. i could go into heavy detail about this. i can recite the entire movie series and the books from memory.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
The Declaration By Gemma Malley
Finished Reading October 2023
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: page 58 ‘make it think you love it before abusing its trust so completely that it could never trust another human being again’
Anna is a surplus, an illegal child in a dystopian future in which living forever is made possible with medication and surgery. She lives in Grange Hall, a prison/training camp where illegal children are held and trained to be slaves for the wealthy legals who have been living on decades past what they should have.
Anna is trying her best to become a ‘valuable asset’, someone worthy of a life outside the walls of the surplus halls, someone who can pay back the debt her parents made her owe to mother nature.
When a new surplus arrives, a child the same age as Anna, he comes telling stories of Anna’s parents and of life outside the grey walls she had known all her life. Peter, the new surplus, is doing everything in his power to try help Anna realise she has a chance in the real world, with her parents, a chance where she can get out from under the evil claws of Mrs Pincent, the house matron.
Review: Gemma Malley is a brilliant writer who has created a powerful young adult science fiction novel that can be enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike. This was one of the first books I read that I loved, back when I was around eleven years of age, and returning to it as an adult not only reminded me of how truly gripping the storyline is and the world that has been created, but also how well written this story is. I will return to it again and I cannot wait to read the other two stories in this series. I can’t wait to see what is next in store for Anna and Peter.
I can definitely say that to anyone who loves YA Dystopian novels, this is one for you.

Book Review- The Thousandth Floor (+Trilogy)
Tumblr media
I loved this book series a lot. It was really engaging and throughout the books there was so much change within the characters in good and bad ways, which I enjoyed because it’s as if I was watching that “I took a picture of myself everyday until marriage” video. My favorite characters were Eris and Calliope and I was devastated to see such a great character like Eris (SPOILER) stay only for the first book before her death. I really liked Calliope because she was badass and the name Calliope is also awesome! Honestly, I don’t remember truly disliking any characters at the end of the series, well, other than (SPOILER) all of Avery’s “Friends” who betrayed her at the end of the third book.
I liked the “Will they won’t they” tension that each pairing had in this book. Also, just imaging all these people with super fancy dresses and great hair was fun to picture in my head. It was really fun and encouraged me to keep reading. I remember just HAVING to turn the page for these bad boys.
I give the Thousandth Floor Series a 5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is definitley my favorite series of all time.

We had never seen destruction on this level before. Sure, we had heard about it on the news but we thought it was nothing. Just idle threats of war and retaliation.
A war was coming; we just didn’t know it at the time. We were so wrapped up in our own shit that we were blinded to the hell going on around us.
My name is Lena. I used to be “human” before all this happened.
Human.
I didn’t even know what that word meant anymore. None of us did. We were changed; mutated from the radiation. Our DNA strands damaged and healed into something new.
We shouldn’t have been here; we shouldn’t even be alive. We should have died a painful death or if we were lucky, gotten cancer down the line.
This was worse.
We were hunted, used for our gifts and our curse. Essentially, we were mutants; a new form of life created by the terrors of nuclear war.
When the bombs hit, when the fire exploded in the sky, everything changed.
We saw it on TV. People were screaming in terror, dying before our eyes. We thought we were safe from the devastation. We were wrong. Fallout travels; no one was safe from the destruction.
I’ll never forget what I saw that day.
The monsters we became. The rubble, ash, and dust. Buildings turned to molten slag with the simple touch of a button.
We were fools; and now the whole world was going to pay for our foolishness.
