Evandrin laughs increases and so does Zerxus' worry.
His amber eyes follow as he paces their living room. "Is everything alright?"
Evandrin nods, unable to stop his laughing. "Perfect, this is... this is wonderful."
Zerxus takes a deep breath and leans back on the armchair, the invitation pinched between his fingers, allowing his husband the time to settle down. It was one piece of the most luxurious invitation box both had ever seen, parts now layed out over their dinner table.
The nervous laughter settles into a pained sound, deep dimple between his fair brows. "Oh my, I'm a terrible person."
"No, you're not." Zerxus leans forward, elbows to his knees, that look so close to the one he makes when Elias is misbehaving. "What is worrying you?"
"I'm not... worried, per se. I- I'm not ready to let go of Laerryn."
"She'll still be your best friend. She's just getting married, Van, she's not leaving for war. She's not even leaving the neighborhood!"
"That lucky bastard Loquatius. You know how long she and I had to hunt for even the crappiest apartment when we first got here? We almost slept on the streets cause everything was too expensive but we would've done it if it meant staying in Avalir..."
His smile slowly fades as the wave of nostalgia recedes, leaving just the memories on the sand.
Zerxus offers a kind smile. "You never told me that."
"Didn't I? I guess it just never came up before this." He casts his eyes upon the now empty velvet and gold invitation box.
"This is worrying me, you haven't had these doubts about them before."
"Because I didn't comprehend the depths of her feelings for him. I thought he was just a fun pastime, a spice to her life, a trinket of a friend. Yes, they've spent so much time together that even I started to get a little jealous, but I had imagined sooner or later she'd get sick of him. Laerryn is my twin soul but she doesn't talk to me about those big feelings. When she tried to explain it to me last week, when she told me they were getting married, I genuinely thought she was joking."
"Is Loquatius the cause of your worry?"
"No. Well, not exactly. I trust Laerryn's judgment. Even though he's quite the character... not to mention his newspaper thing is growing crazy fast and you know how these people in big media are! It was their own hubris that toppled the Zenith News before him."
"And you think it's a bad thing that he's successful?"
"Of course not. So long as he doesn't let it go to his head! Zerxus, I swear if he steps out of line and hurts Laerryn, I don't know what I'm capable of."
Zerxus gets up, towering over Evandrin by a few good inches, and places those heavy hands of his over his shoulders.
"I don't know Laerryn as much as you do, I never will, but if I know one thing about her is that she's a force to be reckoned with. She's also a really smart woman. It's takes a man of character and courage to claim her heart. Loquatius apparently has both."
"I wonder if he knows what he's getting into. She's a wonderful woman, but she's a challenge. I've told her as much many times before."
"They are quite different people but I don't think that's news to anybody."
Evandrin looks deep into his husband's eyes. "Love makes fools out of us."
Zerxus gives a hearty laugh. "Yes, you married me after all."
After a long laugh, he makes an exasperated sound, throwing his hands up. "Who would've thought!? Laerryn Coramar falling in love! Loving that person enough to get married! And so young..."
"Isn't she 130 something?"
"142. Which is quite young for a high-elf, not immature by any means but with centuries ahead of her. She's a sturdy one, I wouldn't be surprised if she lived well beyond a millennia. Which changelings certainly don't."
"Won't that mean she'll then be free to pursue other people in the future?"
"But she'll carry the grief of his loss with her. If he doesn't decide to whisk her away to the Fey realm, that is. Oh Zerxus, I don't even like thinking about it."
"I think it'd take more than an army to drag Laerryn away from the city she calls hers. I'm glad someone could find home here." Before Evandrin can comment on that, he continues. "I think the best way to put your soul at rest would be to talk to Laerryn herself. No one will be more straightforward about this."
"Maybe later, this is probably already enough pressure over her. Her first replenishment as Architect Arcane and now this, she doesn't need the added weight of me questioning the complex puzzle of her feelings."
Zerxus offers his hand which Evandrin takes readily.
"Do you trust her?"
Evandrin doesn't hesitate, not even for half a second.
"With my life."
"Then you can trust, whatever the either very simple or extremely convoluted explanation to this decision might be, that she knows what she's doing."

Some more TMA headcanons because I’ve thought of some more. Also apologies if this list is a little more chaotic than the other one x (Here’s the first list I make incase anyone’s interested)
Also if people have their own that they’d want to add feel free to because I love reading other people’s x
There’s probably going to be some spoilers for but I’ve tried to keep it as broad as possible :) x
Tim used to steal Jon’s pens - Not because he needed them he did it to annoy Jon
Tim once hid a plastic spider in Jon’s desk then pinned it on Martin
Gerry liked to make puns, Gertrude didn’t like Gerry’s puns - Or at least she pretended not too
Peters changed the locks multiple times but Elias just keeps finding his was back in
Georgie has that really nice kind of swoopy writing - I kind of feel Sasha did as well
Distortion Micheal likes the animated Alice in Wonderland film - Can’t think why… (If I had any artistic talent I’d draw him as the Cheshire Cat but I sadly I don’t have any)
Melanie used to make loom band bracelets - She never gave them to anyone but she’d use specific colours with specific people in mind
Elias likes to shout peoples names then not answer them when they shouted back asking what he wanted
Jon owns a few packs of some nice playing cards (Like the ones with cool pictures and stuff) but no one’s allowed to use them - He let Tim use them once but after he slightly bent the corner of one they became off limits to them all
Jon drinks black coffee because it seems like the mature thing to do
Tim drinks the super sweet coffees because they taste nicer and look pretty
Elias has one of them big spinning office chairs - He’s definitely done the James Bond villain spin
Daisy once told Martin she knew a great place to hide his body - She then proceeded to leave notes around the archives to remind him - Jon would also take the notes down
Not necessarily a headcanon but I just imagine series 5 Jared Hopworth in the garden with a necklace of various body parts and bones
Occasionally Basira would just look out to the fourth wall - I’m imagining it like fleabag style
During their travelling Gerry brought Gertrude a mug from a tourist shop - She kept saying she didn’t like it but once she was back in the archives she would use it all the time
Just Jon wearing some sparkly green nail polish
On the topic of Jon’s nails imagine him with those pointy acrylics - He’d either be in his element or he’d have the same vibe as a dog trying to walk in shoes
Both Micheal and Helen just pinging rubber bands at the backs of peoples head (I’ve got no real explanation for why they do it but then again neither have they)
Jon appreciates badgers - He got a little desk calendar with different pictures of them every month
When Martin was staying in the institute Jon gave him a blanket. He took the blanket with him when he started living at home again and started using it
Tim kept every card Sasha ever gave him
Sasha has a little pot of fake flowers on her desk
Jon pretends to he surprised every time Martin gives him a present - Especially if it’s an out of the blue ‘I saw this and thought of you’ present
Sasha and Tim went ice skating together one Christmas - They claimed it was as friends but Tim did give her flowers
Also some random side notes - Slight spoilers for series 4/5
Listened to 170 and immediately started crying at the end / The descriptions in 172 made me feel physically ill as someone who really doesn’t like spiders / Also I saw a thing on TikTok where someone took Gerry asking to be called Gerry and paired it with I Bet On Losing Dogs by Mitski and it was more upsetting than I was expecting xx

Since I am entirely too unwell about Ancient Magus Bride at all times of the day I have decided to break down the latest opening because I cannot do so for the friend I am watching season 2 with since she hasn't read the manga. Hands down this latest opening, Nemurasareta Lineage by Junna, is the best in the series to me. And I don't make that claim lightly, the first opening is iconic on so many levels from the visual to the lyrics, we ignore the 2nd opening bc it sucked (sorry to the fans out there I just do my best to pretend this one doesn't exist, no i have not moved on from my bitterness at its reused animation since 2016 next question), and season 2's first opening is also incredible.
However, what this latest opening brings to the table is some of the most spectacular visuals I've seen in a hot minute- and I don't mean from purely visual, I mean thematically, this opening is fucking spectacular. Every single moment has purpose and meaning behind it.
I will be putting the rest under a read more as to not clog anyone's dash bc this is gonna be l o n g
Starting off from the very first shot we already have so much thematic meaning crammed into this.
Tumblr media
Firstly, the shot of Elias opening the book has many connotations, alluding to how he has read the Testament of Carnamagos while also alluding to the fact that him reading that book is ultimately what lead to this story happening at all. If Elias had never read it to try and transfer Chise's curse, Chise would not have done what she did and Elias wouldn't have learned how to let Chise be independent, and then Chise never would have gone to the college. In that respect it's a perfect opener for this "play," as it was the prelude to this act.
Then we have the next shot of Elias hanging like a puppet, showing us an empty vessel-like appearance before being pulled upwards. There are a lot of different ways to interpret this, personally it drew me back to how the Wil O' Wisp described a magus as "someone bound to their fate." Elias, a tried and true magus, is bound to his fate like a puppet on a string while Chise, someone who is not yet fully a magus is free to walk around the stage as herself. Elias' removal from the set, and subsequently the way he claps to bring forth the next "acts" in the show, I think speaks to the way he is largely removed from this arc. Of course he is there, watching over Chise and pushing her along as best he can, but he has very much taken more of a spectator role in this arc. He guides his pupil the best he can but lets her make her own choices.
Now, onto Chise's entrance.
Tumblr media
With the college/the sorcerer's society as our stage, the protagonist enters. Chise walks in and looks around confused, just as she did when first entering the college and when she first learned of the dark politics lying underneath it. She is the only one not a part of the performance, the one factor that ultimately destroys the narrative the Sargent and the Rickenbacker families were trying to create.
At first, I thought these cardboard figures were a representation of the 7 powerful sorcerer families we are introduced to, but then I realized there were actually 8 figures so that theory is thrown out the window. This is something I'm not actually that confident in so if anyone else has interpretations I am so down to hear it. Obviously the woman in red holding the spider alludes to Lucy. The wolf next to her is most likely then the werewolf mother. The hooded man with the hammer I think can reasonably represent Isaac. While the knight beside him I honestly see as Rian (his sort of knight in shining armor attitude when it comes to Philomela, his very straight-laced straightforward view of things). The nun-like figure with the owl is mostly likely representing Philomela/Lizabeth Sargent. I can see the jester with the snake wrapped around him to be Zoey. For the last two figures though, I am absolutely stumped. The two women with the songbird remind me of Veronica, from the way she was raised up by her family to be a bird in a cage while simultaneously holding Philomela in an even smaller cage. For the family on the far right though I have absolutely nothing. However, I know there is some meaning behidn it, this opening is too packed with symbolism for it not to.
Speaking of symbolism, the sequence that follows is chalked full of it.
Tumblr media
Elias ushers in the entrance of Philomela, trapped in her cage. The design of the cage and the flowers around it make it seem extravagant, exactly what Philomela's life might look like to someone not aware of what's really going on. But a cage is still a cage, and this one comes with a guardian owl, keeping watch over Philomela in place of actually showing Lizabeth. The toys lining the bottom are representative of one of the key moments that made Philomela realize just how tight the bars around her were- that she would never have her grandmother's love, no matter what she did.
Then we cut to moments of Philomela's childhood, again deceptively happy with what we know of Veronica and how she treated Philomela. The baby bird hatching from the egg, Philomela when she was still young and innocent and far too fragile. This association of the baby bird with Philomela also comes back later in a heartbreaking way so :')
Then Chise reaches out with the potpourri, and Philomela becomes alive. It's so fitting, in that Chise's kindness to Philomela, the understanding she has to exactly the pain Philomela is going through, is what touches Philomela so deeply, reminds her of the time where her life was not structured in this way. Chise gives her hope that it doesn't have to be, Chise pulls her out of it and gives her a perch to stand on, and it all began with one fateful meeting.
The shot we get of Chise smiling and swaying in the breeze is all too perfect, in showing that this desire for connection is mutual.
Fittingly, we then see Chise reach out to her friends one by one. Lucy and Zoe's each have a bit more meaning behind them, as we're still somewhat in the dark when it comes to Rian and Isaac's histories, but it still examplifies the ways in which Chise tries to help those around her as best she can. It also makes it abundantly clear why Philomela, and subsequently everyone else, are presented as children in this sequence: a direct reference to chapters 86-87 in which they all are mixed up due to Chise's influence and Chise goes around helping them regain themselves. It marks the turning point in which Philomela tries to take a stand against her grandmother and start believing in the people who have come to try and save her.
There is one gaping hole in this in that Zoey is in fact, not present at all in the whole mind melding thing, but I'm taking that as the animators/directors wanting to include him in this sequence as another main player. Plus the shot we get of him is very cheeking in showing a broken shell- in the way Chise figurative helped him break out of his shell and very literally revealed him to be a gorgon/human mix by accident.
In that interpretation it is also crucial to think about why Chise was kept as her teenage self and not also scaled down to baby form as in the original chapter. But overall keeping her as a teenager flows with the story of the opening itself better while still keeping those same allusions and thematics.
The next big shot to talk about is this one right here.
Tumblr media
Many have already pointed out how it is an homage to the classical painting "The School in Athens." Which is very fitting for the college setting of this arc. More so than the reference itself, the way in which the characters are placed is so meaningful.
We have Chise in the center of it all as the catalyst of course. But we once more get that repetition of Elias as a bystander, observing the situation while remaining more in the background when it comes to Chise. Parallel to him is Lizabeth, who is similarly an outsider but with none of Elias' good nature, she is an outsider in that she wants to watch this scene burn to the ground (and probably why the choice was to then introduce a werewolf who leaps forwards on the attack, still under Lizabeth's control.)
Ruth and Alcyone are also parallel to one another, highlighted in a shot mirroring the two of them. This is interesting in that Alcyone is far more often paired with Elias when being given a point of comparison. While she is quite literally an artificial familiar, her presence is what sparks the idea that Elias might be something similar to her, and yet here she is paired with Ruth. They do have their similarities in the way they would do anything for the person they live for. A thought that struck me was in this mirroring there is also a contrast, Ruth shares his life with Chise, if he dies she is to die as well. However Alcyone's death was meant to be a way for Philomela to live- it was crucial in ensuring Philomela's freedom from her grandmother.
Also notably, Veronica is given a long, lingering shot. As a child, she is far more innocent looking, but the shot stays just a moment too long, as if trying to confirm the suspicions surrounding her (which manga readers will know are true). We also have Jasmine and Violet prominently featured, a very interesting choice considering how little a role they play in this arc, but I feel that current suspicions about how they will have a large role in the upcoming arc might be supported by their presence here. There actually isn't much to say about the shots with the werewolf and our first glimpse of how the show portrays the Testament as it gains a physical form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While gorgeous there's just not much to say about them from an analytical standpoint. Besides for the way in which everyone is turned back into their play forms upon being killed, as if that was their original fate before Chise's interference with the story.
Tumblr media
We then see Chise look devastated, the carnage of her dead friends behind her on the stage. It truly captures just how terrified she is of losing people she cares for. But then she looks at the thorn rune- plot relevant in the way her rune charms protected her friends from being killed. But it's also Elias' symbol, and yet another reminder of how he is still watching over and protecting her throughout all of this. It's only after she activates the magic that she looks up, determined to carry on and change this fate.
Tumblr media
The start of our final action sequence for this opening is a bang, giving us this chaotic shot.
Tumblr media
We see both bits of the classical painting and of our original stage figures being tossed around in the background referencing how the Testament literally rips its way through both the college itself and the students/teachers there. It also, notably, is not contained within the story, instead existing on the same plane as Chise. It's a being far too powerful to be contained in such a way, so it makes perfect sense for it not to be confined to the theatrical setting of this opening.
The next flash of shots is perhaps one of the most hearbreaking ones in this entire opening. First we're shown Philomela and her grandmother, then we cut to this:
Tumblr media
Y'all the layers to this, the l a y e r s. We've already seen this bird represent Philomela in the opening itself as a hatchling. However the adult form of this bird is exactly the same as what Alcyone's base is, it is the only thing remaining once Alcyone dies. However we see all 3 stages of life here, lying dead on the ground. The Sargent family is a family of abusive cycles. Lizabeth passes down her abuse to her son, having been doomed to this path from the moment she was born. It's Adam who tries to break the cycle but ultimately fails, choosing to end his own life rather than return. This dooms his baby daughter to the same fate, nearly killing her as well. It's Alcyone, the last remaining gift Philomela has from her father and the one way he thought of to keep her safe even if he was gone. It's both about the cycles and about how they are broken and how Philomela will never truly escape the violence of the family she was born into, even after her grandmother is gone. This is then followed by the 1 picture of her parents that Philomela tries so hard to remember but cannot. Anyways I am going to be physically ill, next.
Tumblr media
While the last sequence is just a build up to the final fight (cool as fuck but again, not much to say analytically), I do want to point out that when the Testament pulls in all the surrounding settings, it pulls in both the theatrical characters and the actual representations of Chise's friends with them. Which is such a cool little detail my jaw in on the fucking floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after a brilliantly animated scene of Chise running to try and save Philomela from the jaws of this monster, everything abruptly comes to a close. Leaving us unsure of whether or not Philomela was truly saved, as the last set piece to fall away is that gilded cage, the angle making it unclear if Philomela is still inside before our title card appears. The quiet, peaceful shot of the classroom the title lingers over in favor of the chilling set pieces of the opening before it is an excellent place to end, leaving that sense of urgency and notions of the sinister lying in wait at the college.
All of this, and I haven't even touched on the lyrics- which I won't do so here. I am not a qualified translator and frankly this post is long enough as it is. It isn't as if this opening needs anything else to explain how fucking fantastic it is- the visuals themselves are stunning on a level few openings are these days. Not only does it tie into already existing thematics of the show, not only does it go through plot points we have seen and those yet to come in unique and engaging ways, the opening *itself* brings forth its own thematic reading of the college arc and Chise's place in it while telling its own story of events. Truly a masterclass piece of animation all around.

What A Way To Start A Year
T/im learns a little something about karma, friends, and care. Seems even J/on isn't quite as cold as he seems.
A M/agnus A/rchives fic, set somewhere pre-season 1. Shouldn't have any spoilers, but proceed with caution just incase~ (nothing late game, just character dynamic things)
Welcome to "I meant for this to be a little drabble and I wrote 3k words"~ Having a bit of hyperfixation and burn out as I started this new year, soooo I decided to make T/im suffer <3 Not promising quality seeing as I wrote this all in the span of tonight, but consider it a lil 'too long' drabble, and happy new years!
Best way to start off the new year, giving one of your lil guys a lil snz <3
Characters: T/im, M/artin, S/asha, and J/on. Word Count: 3.9k
(CW: There is some swearing, and light descriptions of high fevers)
Christmas had been good this year, maybe the best it had in a long time. Life of the party as always, Tim had enjoyed getting to spend it with his old, and new, colleagues. On top of that, Jon had been laid up with a pretty awful cold for a couple days leading up to it, so he wasn’t around to crush any brilliant ideas Tim came up with.
This led to the budget receiving a fairly substantial hit, though many researchers donated to the cause when they learned this borrowing wasn’t exactly approved. Hell, even Elias had pitched in, claiming something or other about ‘archivists fit for the job not exactly growing on trees’, and wanting to ‘save some of Jon’s sanity’.
“Tim? Are you even listening to me?”
Pulled back to the conversation at hand, Tim lifts his gaze to the taller man fidgeting nervously in front of him. Martin was never one for confrontations, and usually the first ‘no’ would have been more than enough to lead to a string of apologies for even asking. Today however, he seems to have grown a spine. At the worst possible moment.
“Oh come on,” Martin continues, missing the groan slipping from Tim’s throat. “Even Jon agreed to it!”
“I’m not really in the party mood,” Tim retorts, leaning back in his chair. “Besides, Jon didn’t agree to celebrate, he agreed not to stop the celebration. Not the same thing.”
From across her desk, Sasha gives a low chuckle. “He’s got you there, Martin.”
“Can you at least give it a little thought before turning it down?” Martin insists, completely out of character for someone usually so eager to please.
What the hell has gotten into him today? He didn’t even seem to enjoy himself that much at the Christmas party. Sure, he had a few drinks and mingled with the staff, but he’d left as soon as it was over, not waiting around for chatting like Tim and Sasha.
Clearing his throat with a grimace, Tim casts Sasha a dark look as she chuckles again. Knowing far too much, as usual. Especially when it came to him. If it was anyone else, Tim would hate it with all his being, but given that it’s Sasha… well it’s a welcome invasion.
Still, it would be nice if she didn’t rat him out. And to Martin of all people, well let’s just say he saw what happened when Jon was sick. Yeah, passing on that one. Attention is great, Tim lives for it, but the coddling? Not really his style.
“hiEH– guh…”
Damn, that had been a close one. Thankfully Martin seems oblivious, though Sasha sits up in her chair, reaching down into a drawer to fish something out.
Turning his focus back to Martin, Tim provides an offer, desperate to just have the interaction come to an end.
“Fine, I’ll show up, but I don’t want any part in planning it.”
“Oh of course, I’ll handle all the details, I mean it’s just a new years party, how much can there really be to do? I mean food, timing, gotta make sure we have keys to the building– oh but if Jon’s there, that shouldn’t be a problem…” Martin says, rambling beginning to fade into the background as Tim finds himself unable to-
“hH– ek’CHhiew!”
“-Oh, bless you!” Martin says, his own thoughts long forgotten.
Unable to get a word out, Tim merely waves a hand, ducking into his shoulder for another, “eTChhew!”
“Bles-”
And another, “iTSChh’ew!”
“Oh ble-”
And another, “ehh– kTChh’iew!”
Silently Sasha stands, handing Tim a pack of tissues. Must have been what she was looking for in the desk. Once again, knowing more than she should, of course she picked up on his patterns.
Accepting them gratefully, Tim pulls a few out and roughly rubs at his nose, pointedly avoiding Martin’s worried gaze. Gripping his still trembling nose through the tissue, Tim sucks in a tight breath through his teeth, holding for a beat, before finally spinning around in his chair for a final-
“hH’ETCSHh-ieuw! Whew, bless me.”
Martin’s hands are fidgeting again, seemingly unsure of what to do with himself as Tim gives his nose a light massage through the tissue. He’s aware enough not to point it out, but is nearly shaking with the effort of suppressing his concerns.
With a sigh, Tim meets his eyes. “I’m fine, Martin. I always sneeze like that.” He leaves out ‘when I’m sick’. It also happens if he’s suffering allergies, though he doubts that would be a point in his defense given it’s the middle of winter.
“Yeah he’s not kidding,” Sasha pipes up, throwing Tim a wink as he glares. “You should hear him in spring, once it starts he can be going for hours.”
“I wouldn’t say hours, Sash-”
“Remember the cherry blossom incident?” Sasha interrupts, sending a sugary smile over to Martin. “He was wrecked for the rest of the day, I was almost certain he was never gonna stop. Even considered giving a statement here, that reaction was almost supernatural.”
Tim winces, an audible moan slipping from his lips. “We swore to never speak of it again.”
Sasha laughs, Tim giving her another playful glare from behind his tissues. “You swore that, I did no such thing.”
Thankfully Martin doesn’t pry, having enough common sense to offer a polite chuckle, and offer some excuse about ‘planning’. Still, he can’t help himself from shooting a meek “I hope you feel better soon” over his shoulder, Tim giving him finger guns in return.
“This is karma, you know,” Sasha calls after Martin’s outside earshot. “You took pleasure in Jon’s suffering, so now it’s your turn to suffer the same fate.”
“No, thi- eTChhew! Scuse me,” Tim says, rubbing his nose with the tissue one last time before depositing it in his nearly overflowing trash can. Another tissue is plucked as his eyes begin to water, nostrils flaring with reckless abandon. Never just one.
“kTChh’uew! hh’iTChh –uew! Tihhckles… eTCHh! etchh’uh! hiehh–”
The last one toys with him, tracing the rims of his nostrils, back up his sinuses, a gentle itch that seems to burn against every inch of his nose. Finally, with a desperate gasp, Tim ducks into his wrist for the last, “heh’ATChhh –iew!”
“Many blessings. Sounds like you need them,” Sasha offers with a wince, tossing another pack of tissues over, which Tim catches with a single hand, the other still gripping his nose.
After taking a moment to clean himself up, Tim shoots her his signature smile, ignoring the eye roll she shoots back. “Where was I?”
“Admitting this is karma?”
“It’s not karma, it’s lack of common sense. Going to a party where a coworker is sick, and still drinking and eating the same meals” Tim says, aiming a rough cough into his sleeve.
Sasha winces once more at the quality of the cough, hands rummaging through her drawers once more as she tosses a reply back. “And yet you’re the only one who caught it. Seems like karma to me.”
Closing the distance between them in a single stride, Sasha places a hand on Tim’s shoulder, voice softening. “It’s two days till new years, why don’t you go home and try to get some rest? I doubt Martin will object, and I’ll cover for you with Jon.”
Before Tim can form his rebuttal, Sasha places a box of paracetamol and a jar of vapor rub in front of him. Nodding his thanks, Tim lets out another harsh cough into his arm, leaning as far away from Sasha as he can manage.
With a light rub to his shoulder, Sasha walks to the door, holding it open with a pointed look. “Go home, you sound awful.”
“Alright, alright. I got the message. hH’ETchhiew!” Tim says, gathering his care package and beginning his walk down the hallway.
“If I hear the rest of that fit happening in this building, I’m telling Martin how ill you really are,” Sasha calls after him, a smile flashing over her face as Tim holds up his hands in mock surrender, before ducking back into his arm with another muffled burst.
—
“You look horrible.”
Tim manages a weary smile from behind the tightly wound scarf. “Thagk you.”
Martin winces, standing in the doorframe, seemingly oblivious to the winter chill soaking into Tim’s bones. Even just the walk from the train station was hell on earth, standing out here is doing him no favours.
Turning away with a throat scraping cough, Tim manages to clear the congestion enough to finish the sentence somewhat understandably. A great feat, given how fast his voice is retreating. “May I remind you that I’m only here because you insisted.”
“Right, well I… I didn’t know how bad-” Martin begins, realizing spreading across his face like a wildfire as a chill leaves Tim breathless. “Oh god, I’m making you freeze to death while you’re already this sick, I’m so sorry, come in, I’ll go make you a tea.”
Tim nods his thanks as he piles inside the warm institute, cursing his aching lungs as each breath of warm air seems to burn them from the inside out. Martin rushes away, nearly crashing into a few researchers as he makes his frantic dash for the kitchen.
The scarf is reluctantly removed, a shudder running through Tim’s back as the warm air does nothing to soothe what he’s now certain is a growing fever. A few researchers wave to him, offering some idle chit-chat as he makes his way inside.
For the most part, people give him a wide berth, apparently he looks as bad as he feels. Tissues in hand, gripping them like a lifeline, Tim finds his way to a couch and lets himself sink into it. The party buzzes around him, fading into background noise.
Martin returns soon after, the mug vibrating slightly as he attempts to steady his hand. “I wasn’t sure what kind you’d want, we have a pretty limited amount, but I have a few extras in my desk– oh I could have probably found one for colds and flus, I’m not sure which this is, I thought cold before but you look-”
“Martin,” Tim interrupts, voice cutting uncomfortably through his raw throat. “Can I have the cup?”
“Oh, right, sorry!” Martin says, a sheepish grin crossing his face, nerves more than anything else, as he hands Tim the mug. Tim gives another appreciative nod, taking a cautious sip.
The warm liquid feels like heaven against his throat, and he barely manages to choke back a whimper. The flavour is still a mystery, Martin never actually got to that part. Given how little he can taste at the moment, seems it’s gonna remain that way. Still, the heat beginning to warm his chest is a welcome relief, and Tim has to fight to keep his eyes from drifting shut…
“Watch out!”
The voice rouses him, his eyes snapping open just in time to witness Jon dropping to his knees in front of the couch. The realization doesn’t sink in for another minute, Tim blinking the tired from his eyes and trying to figure out why people are staring… and why there’s a hand on his finge–
Oh, the tea. Thankfully Jon’s reflexes seemed to kick in just in time, his hands guiding Tim’s cup to the table next to him. Judgement clouds the boss's eyes as he turns back, fully ready to chastise Tim, no doubt. Jon opens his mouth, one hand beginning to point, but as his eyes scan Tim’s form, his demeanor changes instantly.
“You don’t seem well.” Jon’s voice is still firm, but with a hint of something Tim can’t quite place. On anyone else, he’d call it concern. On Jon… perhaps concern isn’t far off, though the underlying criticism of the statement irritates him.
“I wonder why that could be? It’s almost as if someone came to the Christmas party sick enough to fall asleep standing. Twice.” Tim says, sarcasm lining his words, alongside the congestion he can’t seem to fully shake.
“Well in that case,” Sasha chimes in, cheerful voice a natural antithesis to the misery coursing through Tim’s system. “Seems you’re halfway there!”
“Hey, I was lying down, that’s hardly the sahh… same thing– hH’ETchh!”
“Here we go,” Sasha says, already turning on her heel to find a tissue box as Tim’s hitches increase in desperation.
“aHTChh’ew! gn’tchhew!”
“Bless,” Jon offers, a brief confusion crossing his face as Sasha laughs, shaking her head.
“He’s not done,” She says, handing over the tissue box.
Tim grabs for it blindly, too caught up in the fit to even attempt dignity. Still, the eyes on him do leave him with a hint of embarrassment, and the onslaught is muffled as best he can manage. “hH’MMpshhew! eMPFShh’ieh! hh’MFSHhueh!”
Blessings sound out from the room, Tim managing to wave a hand towards the ones offering them, eyes still watering. As the fit seems to stall, he lowers his tissues, red nose now visibly twitching.
“Are you alright?” Jon asks, the hint of concern from before now plainly evident. That’s frankly more alarming than it should be, and Tim finds himself wanting to… reassure the boss.
“I’m okay, it’s juhh… j-just… huhh–” But it seems his nose has other plans, a tissue being raised once more as Tim paws at the appendage. “‘Scuhhse me, I still have… hahhve to… to… hiHh– eTCHh’ew! hk’ASCHh–oo!”
This time the tickle fades with the final pitchy sneeze, Tim letting out a low groan as he mashes his nose into the ever growing collection of tissues he’s clutching. A few people call out final blessings, Sasha laughing out hers as Tim’s face goes red once more.
Martin picks this time to enter the room with drinks, Tim letting his eyes flutter shut as the focus shifts off his misery. A gentle touch keeps him from drifting off to sleep, prying open an eye to find Sasha settling onto his left.
“Careful, don’t want to catch this,” Tim manages, leaning against his right shoulder to muffle another stream of chesty coughs. Sasha winces as it goes on past the realm of comfort, her hand finding his back.
“Don’t worry about me, I haven’t earned this cold, I didn’t make use of Jon’s or your suffering,” She says, the playful tone not masking the growing worry in her posture.
While she can read him like a book, she’s no mystery to him either. The tension in her fingers, absentmindedly stroking patterns on his back. The way she subconsciously tries to support his body weight, despite them both sitting. The look in her eyes when he manages to stall the coughing long enough to meet them.
With this brief respite from the attack, Sasha takes the chance to bring Tim’s tea back, his fingers wrapping around the warm mug. The first few sips burn, his lungs protesting, begging to return to their efforts to expel all the irritation. By the third, however, the warmth is spreading once more, easing the spasms.
“Alright?” Sasha asks, beginning to stand from the couch. Tim nods his reply, taking another slow sip. “Think you’ll make it till midnight? We’ve still got a few hours to go.”
He nods his approval again, not yet trusting his voice enough to make an attempt. Sasha simply smiles, easing back into the party that– Tim had almost forgotten existed. That fever must be worse than he thought, given how loud it is. A fact that’s now pounding against his head in harmony with his heartbeat.
The party continues on, Sasha and Martin taking turns checking in on Tim as he slips rapidly in and out of consciousness. Seconds turn to hours, and before he knows it, it’s two minutes to midnight.
As Tim blinks against the harsh fluorescent lighting, it’s Jon that stands before him, hand hovering near his side. Tim begins to speak, breaking off into a cough as his voice comes out rough with sleep and congestion.
“What’s up boss?” He manages with the second attempt, not missing Jon’s wince at the nasal quality.
“You simply look… well, the festivities are nearly over, I was just inquiring as to…” Jon seems to get stuck, eyes wandering down to the couch as he finishes. “I know you took the train here, I was seeing if you needed an escort home.”
“How kind, I’d be delighted to have your accompaniment,” Tim responds, the wit clouding the fact he… hadn’t actually considered needing to go home. Jon seems to take this answer as satisfactory, ignoring all the sarcasm as he gives a tight nod and an out of practice smile.
From across the room Martin calls out, something about a countdown. Tim attempts to pull himself to a stand, finding Sasha’s arm around his waist, guiding him to the wall. Leaning against it, he lets his rough voice join the chorus as they count into the new year.
Despite how the lights and noise had pounded into his skull, everyone chanting in unison helps Tim realize that… there actually aren’t that many people here. Aside from his coworkers, there’s only a few researchers, and Elias is not in attendance.
Honestly, thank whatever cosmic being may exist for that one, he had been none too fond of Jon’s arriving sick. Tim shudders to think what he would have said about this state. He shouldn’t have come, but… something about how insistent Martin was… well he just couldn’t disappoint that loveable idiot.
Somehow Tim finds he’s managed to keep up with the counting, despite being worlds away in his thoughts. As they approach the final numbers, a feathery sensation begins to spread through his nostrils- no.
Absolutely not, this is not the time. It’s never just one, there’s not enough people here, someone’s gonna notice. And I mean, it’s not like he’s hiding the fact he feels like death, but… drawing that much attention is also not the goal.
“Five! Four!”
“hiehh- h’ngTchh!” He manages to stifle the first, the congestion pounding in his head as the tickle seems to only get worse.
“Three! Two!”
“I cad’t– nNDtch! nGTCh’uh!”
“One–”
As the cheers begin to erupt, Tim ducks into the tissues with a scraping, “ehg’TCHhiew!”
“Happy new years!”
“yiEShh’iew! etchh’uh! hH’AESHH –oo!” Tim dips into his hands again, managing to sink down against the wall as he lets out a congested blow, ending the fit.
“What a way to ring in the new year,” Comes Sasha’s voice, her form blocking the light from Tim’s eyes as he looks up, fever blurring his vision.
“Shud ub.”
“Christ Tim, you sound awful,” Jon adds, his form appearing behind Sasha’s.
“Thagks boss,” Tim retorts, groaning as he notices a third form, Martin’s nervous fidgeting easy to spot even from this angle. Martin remains silent, though his eyes seem to hold more concern than any of them, and… guilt? Or maybe that’s just the delirium.
Glancing up to meet Sasha’s gaze, Tim offers a weary, “Tibe to go hobe?”
She nods softly, kneeling to help him to his feet, Martin wordlessly taking his other arm. Jon stands off to the side, hesitating. What for, who knows. All Tim can focus on is one step after the other, just gotta make it home, then he can sleep. For the rest of forever, at this rate.
As they get to the door, Martin helps wrap the scarf around Tim’s neck, forcing him to lift it from its perch against Sasha’s shoulder. Sasha, for her part, supports his weight with ease, she was always stronger than she looked.
Martin keeps casting glances towards Tim, obviously fretting over something. Too tired to manage his usual charm, Tim gives Martin the softest look he can manage. “Jusd say id, please. You’re makigg me nervous.”
“I’m so sorry I asked you to come, you’re obviously so unwell, and I know I didn’t really know that at the time, but I should have, or at least texted and checked in, I just… I wanted us all to get along so bad and I thought if you came it would mean more fun because you’re always so lively and good at talking to people and-”
Tim holds up a hand, eyes glazing over as Martin stops short, breath coming almost as rapidly as Tim’s. After a minute goes by, Martin starts to open his mouth, seeming confused by the interruption, before nearly jumping out of his skin as Tim ducks into his fist.
“eTCHh’ew! hH’YEAShh –iew! Sorry, I feld those cobigg… waid– hih’ETCHhew! heAYSHh’oo!” Tim ducks down again, Sasha grabbing him tighter to support the harsh shudders as he attempts to keep his balance.
“Oh bless you,” Martin offers, voice coming out timid. Tim gives him, what he hopes is, a warm smile despite the fever taking hold of the last corners of his mind.
“If I didn’t wanna cobe, I would have stayed hobe. I dod’t blame you.”
Martin nods silently, a relief seeming to flood his face. Taking his place once more supporting Tim, they move towards the exit. Opening the door, the first wave of cold floods the entryway, and a chill so violent runs through Tim that both Martin and Sasha take a step back to brace him.
It’s now that Jon speaks up, voice strained with a type of worry Tim hadn’t heard before. “No, we’re absolutely not doing this, I refuse.”
The trio turn towards him. Though perhaps a more accurate description is that Martin and Sasha turn, Tim simply goes along for the ride. Martin mumbles something about ‘no other choice’, but Sasha asks what Jon’s on about.
“It’s too cold out there, it’s the middle of the damn night, there’s no way I’m letting him go home like this.”
“And what do you suggest we do as an alternative? He can’t stay here-” Sasha begins, pausing as Jon turns towards her.
“Why not? I’m the archivist, this is my archive,” Jon begins, pausing for a moment, before adding, “Well, Elias’s, but I hardly think he’d suggest we send an employee home in this weather while they’re this sick. That’s just bad management, he’ll freeze to death before even reaching the train.”
As if to confirm this assumption, Tim shudders violently, ducking into his chest with a tired, “hh’eshhew! eTCHh’iew!” followed by a heavy sigh. Martin mumbles something about covering, but quickly silences himself as Tim begins to tremble again.
Sasha gives Jon a look, seeming to read him for any hints of doubt, perhaps searching for an ulterior motive. After a brief pause, their eyes meeting, she gives a tight nod, approval of some kind.
“Come on Martin, let’s get him back to that couch, he can sleep there for the night,” Sasha directs, Martin nodding his acceptance.
Tim manages to catch snippets of the conversation as they get him settled. Jon fetching him a blanket he keeps in his office. Martin providing some more tea. Sasha grabbing tissues and medication for when he wakes up. Something about Jon sleeping in his office so he’s not alone, and Sasha coming in early to help him home.
With his final bout of consciousness, Tim holds up a hand, the conversation immediately pausing. “Thagk you guys. And… esSHhh’ew! And, I’b sorry.”
All three stare at him for a minute, before Sasha breaks first. Her laughter fills the silence, Martin joining in soon after, and even Jon letting a few chuckles slip out. When they’ve finally collected themselves, Sasha gives Tim a warm smile.
“Sleep well, Tim. I’ll come fetch you in the morning.”
With a content sigh, Tim lets his eyes drift shut again, his consciousness fading to the soft hum of his friends in the background.
Alright, so maybe coddling isn’t quite so bad after all.

Breaking down the Comics: Elias Spector's Death
Okay. Okay. I'm going to try to be....a little comprehensible.... I'm going to fail. Just a warning.
I want to talk about the first run of Moon Knight. Specifically the last issues of the first run. There were 38 issues in the very first run of their own comic. After that, they reached out to a larger audience and started to print differently and started over with #1 because comics suck at a comprehensible numbering system.
In the start, we meet Marc Spector, see him have a conflict of heart, die, come back, and become Moon Knight. He starts to add in identities of Jake and Steven as a way to be anyone else but Marc Spector and claims they are just him starting over and trying to use their lives as a way to do things better. (a system that has not yet realized that it is a system. Denial is not just a river).
We see him fight some of his villains that start to play bigger parts later in the series. We see him make friends as Jake and money and love as Steven. We see bits of his past and some stories of Marc Spector’s adventures. We meet Randall and even get to see Marc fail to save people (Crowly’s son, Randall, Gena’s friend). We see him struggle with Khonshu and his identity a bit. We even see him break down a couple times.
But the way that fist run ends is to me the real defining moment for Moon Knight. Let’s take you to:
Issue #37, The Ghost.
Tumblr media
It opens with Elias dying of cancer in a hospital in Chicago. On his deathbed, he calls for Marc.
The comic notes that they have been estranged for 18 years.
In this comic, Steven has finished organizing the files on Marc and is still grappling with the fact that he and Marc are in fact two different people. He thinks once he has organized Marc’s life, he can lock it up and they can become Steven Grant forever and never have to deal with that unpleasantness again.
Up to this point, we have been seeing them struggle with their identities. Still under the illusion that they are one man putting on different identities who can't decide what life to live.
Understandable, considering that Marc does not want to be Marc anymore. Steven detests the life that was lived as Marc and Jake pushes back on both lives, wanting to be with friends and a simple man of the people.
In many ways, Marc only surfaces when things of the past come up. He refuses to acknowledge that he's still around and when he is faced with that fact, he is stressed and full of rage.
We've seen clips of Marc's past. We see him working as a guide for not always good people through tough parts of the world. We see him working for hire with the Feds in capturing a runner. We see the CIA and world organizations hiring him. Is it any wonder that he's so skilled? That his past is often overlooked when it comes to SHIELD and other entities, because he probably not only worked for them, but probably also carried out shady business for them. But that's a different story.
In this issue, we see Steven watching a recording of one of the missions Marc was on. "Spector led a scout team. We took a terrorist camp in a cross border operation. The only problem was that our  .50 caliber gunners couldn't be bothered with fine distinctions between terrorists, women, and children."
As much as we'd like to see Marc as a man of misfortune and circumstance, he wasn't always a good guy. He often tried his best to be good in his missions, often feeling conflicted and trying to save people or turning on those that he found to be of bad character, but sometimes he was a bad guy.
It's important to see these bits so we can better understand Marc and his intense trauma, his guilt, and his self hatred.
This issue uses this to show how far away from his father's teachings Marc fell. How he pushed so hard against his father that he ended up on the other side.
In my books, this is the most important Moon Knight story. The story of where he came from. Of his father and his faith.
His parents fled to America when Germany took over Czechoslovakia. In Europe, his father had been a great man that was "ordained a Rabbi at eighteen, and went on to become a brilliant scholar in the Kabbalah, Jewish Mysticism."
They moved to the poor side of Chicago where his father tried to teach him that "God loves a poor man. [...] Poor in goods, rich in spirit." (Something Jake Lockley adheres to).
Here, they suffered antisemitism. They were beaten and used as scapegoats for everything wrong.
Interestingly enough, he sites that his mother died when he was just a child. with the frequent beatings, fear, and death of his mother, it's any wonder Marc suffered some trauma? He became angry at his father for not standing up for himself or them.
His father wanted him to study to become a Rabbi and Marc turned to boxing and self defense.
When his father tries to stop him during a fight, he punches him. His father disowns him and kicks him out.
The next day Marc joined the Marines. He focused "for eight years" to become the best. When he was the best, he became a mercenary.
If you jump forward several writers, you find out that he was dishonorably discharged from the Marines for bouts of dissociation and mental health. But let's stay focused on the original story.
Steven has found out that their father is dying and he is refusing to go back. "He said he never wanted to see me again, he meant it. I won't go back."
An important aspect of this comic is that Marlene notes herself to be Steven's lover, confidant, and guru.
She acts as their guide in matters of the mind and heart. She's always the one that calms them and helps them to reconcile when the three of them start to fight one another and don't know who they are.
Despite her not understanding his DID, and they themselves not understanding it, she is a huge help for them.
I have a lot of conflicting thoughts and opinions on Marlene, but it's good to note that she was originally written as a very important part of his story.
"Marc Spector was always an escapist. When your relationship with your brother Randall soured you just forgot him for ten long years until it was too late and he died hating you. I can feel what kind of spin you're in, Steven, but you have to accept the responsibility, make amends now. Steven Grant and Moon Knight have no fathers. Only Marc Spector does."
That's a very interesting view into all their relationships and how they keep one another at arms length. Jake, Steven, and Marc refuse to believe they have the same past, responsibilities, or life.
Yet, when Marc is struggling with dealing with the approaching death of his father, and facing him, Steven takes the floor and tries to help Marc get out of it. (Just like Jake jumping out the window later in Lemier's version of the story. Always running...Maybe I'll do something on that later...)
While out being Moon Knight, he comes across a Synagogue on fire. He sees a man run into the burning building and finds a Rabbi struggling to save the Torah from the fire.
"The five books of Moses. He put his life on the line for this. My father would have done the same, I'll bet. Though he wouldn't lift a finger against the thugs who bullied him. I guess every man's got his own reason for being a hero."
He finds out that the fire was set on purpose by NeoNazis. It reminds him of when he was a child and he flies into a rage.
"I'm not about to let these Nazi goons get off with 'Malicious mischief' and a slap on the wrists."
He's been through this before. There is weight to the thought that a lot of Marc's childhood trauma stems from dealing with religious trauma and antisemitism.
I think as time moves on, we forget the time period that Moon Knight is set in. He isn't just a child of a jewish immigrant.
His father fled the Holocaust. There is a high likelihood that friends and family did not make it out. Marc grew up hearing about relatives he lost. Knowing that his blood line probably didn't make it out of Europe. That there are no pictures of his ancestors. That he can't go back and see the old houses and towns.
His father was a Rabbi, which means he was in a big part of a Jewish community that also probably fled or flat out came from the camps. He grew up seeing the tattoos, the poor health, the people with PTSD, and hearing the stories.
We're talking severe Generational Trauma.
When Marc finds the Nazi scum that burned the synagogue he has some of my favorite lines that define him:
"You know where I belong, punk? I belong with the decent and innocent folk who can't find a moment's peace. Not in the streets, not in their own homes, so long as punks like you terrorize them. I belong with the persecuted."
Detective Flint shows up and stops him before he kills them. (I honestly forgot Flint went back to the beginning. That poor man has dealt with so much Moon shit.)
Marc realizes he needs to face things and heads to Chicago.
But he is too late. He arrives in time for the funeral. He's handed a kippah and he puts it on for the first time in years.
Now, we get to learn a bit about Elias.
We come to find him as a man in desperate search of Self and Spirit. A man who was so stern and severe but also a man that sought truth and a just way to live.
His line of research focused on the "knowledge to see beyond the physical. To know the universe as a reflection of the divine image and to see mankind redeemed..."
It discusses how the body cannot meet G-d, but only the spirit and only in death can the spirit travel.
We find out later that he was seeking a way to bring back the departed who have met with G-D and the other side.
A man that refused to fight back against those that had done him wrong, who believed that given enough time that G-D would punish those that had brought them harm.
A man that sought for a way to face G-D after watching a world try to wipe his people off the very earth. An interesting thought.
During the eulogy, Marlene reflects that "It's almost as though he were speaking of you as Steven Grant. A man in search of self and spirit who rejected Marc Spector's materialism to become Moon Knight - A social conscience and moral force, just, severe, unknowable."
Steven later goes to visit their father's grave at night and comes across some thugs spray painting a swastika on some of the grave stones and vandalizing them. He’s emotional and outraged that even here there is no peace to be found. It turns out this was all a distraction as someone has stolen his father's corpse!
Tumblr media
Issue #38, And the dead shall rise: (I love that cover).
We see Moon Knight struggling with his identity. Elias was not a father to them all. Marc is emotional and pissed, but still refusing to take responsibility for his part in all this.
"Moon Knight will find his...Marc Spector's father and return him to the dignity of a final resting place..." Steven refuses to say ‘my father’. Any mention of Elias is always in relation to Marc and even Marc can’t make himself be present when talking about his father.
Marlene is tasked with helping to clear out Elias' study and donate his papers and books to the university when she's attacked by someone who runs off with some of the papers.
Steven returns and has a small break down. "I'll find him, Marlene, and I'll kill him for desecrating my father's grave and memory!" "That's Marc Spector the cold - hearted mercenary talking, not you stev--" "How long can I deny it, Marlene. I AM Marc Spector!"
And Marc is finally taking charge. The first time he has taken ownership of his father and how he feels.
He sees his father in a new light.
"I may have misjudged my father's saintliness for cowardice and his genius and moral zeal for fanaticism. [...] And isn't moon knight in his own way a moral zealot fighting perhaps for the very same values Marc Spector once rejected?"
Now that is an interesting way to look at it. Moon Knight is about doing the right thing. About protecting those that need it. About believing in something unkillable and powerful. Moon Knight is about an idea of man being more than he is. Is this not what his father believed in?
We learn that Elias had uncovered a way to bring a soul back to the dead body with necromancy where it could then "utter its knowledge of God to a living Kabbalist."
Turns out one of Elias' students decided to test this out on Elias' freshly dead body.
He does manage to resurrect the dead body of Elias, who zombie walks towards Moon Knight.
Marc immediately starts having flashbacks and intense guilt. Even with his dead father trying to strangle him, he refuses to fight back: "No! I'll die before I ever lay my hands on him again, I swear it! Father, forgive me-"
Marlene shows up and manages to break the spell, sending Elias back to death.
Marlene tends to save him a lot in the earlier runs. Just something to note.
Marc once more is not present. Curled up on the floor after melting down, he is beyond emotional and most likely dissociating out the wazoo. "I found him, Marlene... I found...Spector's father."
Once more, Marc is being protected. Marc, who hated how his father sheltered him and wanted to feel the real world in violence and brutality is often in need of being sheltered. Steven, who wants to rid himself of Marc and the past is often doing the sheltering.
When it comes to emotions, Marc is often the one being overcome. Either in fits of anger and rage, guilt and regret, or just overwhelmed in sadness or traumatic responses. Steven Grant is usually the one that is shown to be calm and collected.
In fact, at the start of the issues, when Steven is watching Marc’s tapes and going through his things, he’s detached and unemotional. Steven has the ability to see things from a different perspective of ‘useful’ and ‘Not useful’. It’s rare that Steven responds to things with emotion unless Marc is involved and they are arguing or Marc has put them or someone he cares about in danger.
Frankly, it’s possible that Steven is the caretaker in the early comics. Mackay has shown that Steven not only manages their finances, but their hygiene and body care. He’s the rational and logical one. The one that can face down a villain without reacting. He’s also the one that does all the exercises and rehab when Marc puts them in a wheelchair.
The story ends with them returning home to New York. Steven notes that they almost died because of Marc's emotions. He also notes that Marc seems to have resolved some of the bitterness that was held with his father's memory. He comments that he feels a peace of mind and like a whole new person.
Steven and Marc featured heavily in this with Steven shielding Marc without even realizing he was doing it. And as a system that has not come to full realization yet, it is possible that Steven is starting to understand here, which is why he feels like a whole new person at peace with himself.
This is also how the first run of Moon Knight as a stand alone comic ended. 1980-1984.
Before this issue, Jake was featured heavily. Steven was the mansion party pretty boy that lounged around with Marlene. Jake was the one out doing his reconnaissance and hanging with Gena and Crowley.
It was a good connection to link Steven and Marc’s past with the father and Jewish faith. Jake would have been easier to connect. Jake is the son that Marc wishes he had been.
But Jake is emotional. Jake wants nothing to do with Marc’s bloody past. Calls him a killer and would be happy to spend all day in his cab. If anything, when Steven and Marc talk about Jake, it often feels like two older brothers talking about a goofy but kind younger brother.
A few issues earlier, when they ended up in a wheelchair for a time, Steven lamented that he didn’t think he could give up driving Jake’s cab, as it brought him too much joy.
So I can see why this issue needed Steven to be involved. Steven doesn’t know who he is at this point. He hasn’t been defined and given the chance to figure out what makes him happy and tick. Jake has already broken off and figured out who he is. He knows he’s Jake Lockley. But who is Steven Grant aside from Marlene’s eye candy and the rich boy?
Settling Marc’s past, seeing who he was and where he was coming from, protecting him, and facing down the Nazi threat was eye opening for him. Much like in the show, Steven needed to see where they came from to see where he belonged.
Does it get easier for Steven and Marc to interact after this? Not really. Marc is still self destructive and a danger to them. But I think when Marc falls down that path, it’s easier for Steven to know where Marc is coming from. To help him get out of the spiral and let them function.
An interesting aspect is how much Marc’s past has been re-written over and over again by different writers. His mother’s role, his relationship with his brother, his religious handlings, his trauma, and his violent past are redesigned each time a new writer gets their hands on him.
No one really knows how to handle Marc’s relationship with G-D or his specific type of trauma. Marc’s guilt is’t because he betrayed his culture or religion. He didn’t turn his back on that. His fate with heaven and hell are constructed by Christian writers that don’t understand or research things well enough.
Marc’s pain is that he can’t let go of the choices he made. The regrets of relationships that he turned his back on weigh heavily on him. His inability to save people and the times he didn’t try when he should have are agony to him.
“You can’t save everyone, but you have to try.” Marc’s problem is that he will break himself trying. He can’t handle the thought that he can’t save everyone. Each one he loses is a scar on him that eats away at him as another example of him destroying everything good in his life.
Marc has gotten to the point where a flower would wilt and he’d take it as a personal hit that he didn’t try hard enough.
He lost his brother. He was too late for his father. He couldn’t help Marlen’s father. Marc needs the reminders that sometimes he has to lay down and rest. Steven tends to be that reminder.
When Marc forgets that he’s more than just a killer, Steven steps in and tells Marc to sit down and shut up. He is balance and control that both Marc and Jake lack and I really wish we got to see more of this, especially in current writings.
I want to see that Marc is the emotional hot head. That Jake is the heart and soul. That Steven is the cool and collected protector. I want to see them wrestle with G-D in a way that makes sense to them. I want to see how Marc has healed and how they are processing their trauma. I want them to show that they can work together and know what one another needs. I want them to show that healing is possible without losing any part of themselves.
Sometimes healing looks like three guys sharing time and doing their own thing. Not one guy being in control of the body full time. Sometimes healing is one guy celebrating Purim while the other two take a back seat because it isn’t their thing.
I’m prepared for disappointment, but I hope I’m pleasantly surprised.

Benny comes to Bobby's to set things straight between the two of you
Being back at Bobby's felt like being a teenager sneaking home with your tail tucked between your legs after being warned not to hunt alone. Your bedroom had long since been established as yours, even when the Leviathan had attacked and burnt down the old house that once stood here as soon as the new one was built Bobby had told you to take claim to the bedroom that was in the same place as your old one.
The twin size bed was tucked into the corner of the room, a foot locker sat at the end of the bed that was filled with different spells ingredients, first aid supplies and weapons. The windowsill was wide enough you kept cushions on it for another place to sit. The only people you ever allowed to crash in it when you weren't there were Sam, Dean, Jo or Roni.
At least you didn't have time to wallow. From the moment you'd parked your car in the driveway you'd fallen back into the routine that was being in the center of the hunters network. When you'd walked into the door with your duffle over your shoulder Bobby had just walked out the kitchen and smiled "Hey sweetheart" he eyed your bag so you nodded "Mind if I come home for a while?" You knew what the answer would be even before he said "Why would I mind? Go dump your stuff then you better go see Ellen, she's gonna be ticked off if you're here a few hours before she notices"
You hugged him then dumped your bag onto the bed in your room then headed back down the stairs. Ellen was waiting on you with Jo, she pulled you into a hug and that was all it was. You didn't want to talk about Benny and none of them tried to make you. The phones started ringing so Ellen nodded towards it "Grab the fed line honey"
Tumblr media
Two days had passed. You'd been dodging Benny's calls and avoiding his texts. Sam and Dean had both called, Dean offered to kick Benny's ass for you and Sam had offered to hack Andrea's bank accounts.
You didn't want anyone holding bad feelings towards Benny. You loved him, regardless of what had happened. He'd been your friend before you'd gotten into a relationship with him and friends were few and far between, if he needed your help on a hunt you'd give it just not yet.
---------
You were in Bobby's study, running down a lead for Sam and Dean when you heard your name being called. You jumped up to run towards the front door where Jo was helping Elias through the door.
Your eyes widened as you moved to support his other side considering he was nearly the same height as Sam and just as broad "For fucks sake Elias, what did you do?" He grinned slightly "Was just a wendigo Bandit. Don't worry" you shook your head then nodded towards the lounge chair next to the window "drop him there then go grab the first aid kit out the kitchen"
Jo helped you ease him down then headed for the kitchen. Elias smirked slightly as you began to unbutton his shirt "Well damn Bandit if you wanted me half naked all you had to do was ask" You rolled your eyes and shoved him down onto the lounge in a laying position so you could see the wound easier "Easy there Elias" he grimaced when his back hit the cushion "Yeah, I ain't in the shape for Lafitte to catch me hitting on you"
"You aren't in the shape for anything" Jo told him as she walked back in with the first aid kit. You nodded to it "Get a suture kit out, he's got a decent gash going down his left side" she did as you asked then grabbed the betadine to clean up what blood she could while you prepared the needle. She nodded to you then tossed the bloody gauze down on the cloth she'd sat on the floor to catch any used medical supplies for easier clean up.
----------
You worked in silence, quickly stitching up Elias' side then Jo taped some gauze over it to protect the area as well. "I'll call mom and see if there's antibiotics here or if I need to make a pharmacy run" Jo said after helping you clean everything up. You nodded to her then looked back at Elias "I'm gonna go put the kit up. Then we can get you squared away upstairs so you can sleep a little"
He gave you a small smile "You two are angels in flannel" you grabbed your chest in mock pain "Knowing some of the angels, i dont know if thats a compliment or insult" he laughed which caused a slight grimace of pain to flash across his face "Trust me, I mean it as a compliment"
----------
One thing that seemed so damn mundane to have to do in your life was laundry, yet it was a necessary evil. You'd already gotten Elias tucked away into one of the two spare bedrooms and was in your room folding your laundry when you heard someone knocking at the front door so you stepped out into the hall to holler at Jo to answer it.
Tumblr media
Benny parked his truck next to your car then climbed out. Your necklace with the ring he'd long since bought you was sitting heavily in his jacket pocket, you refused to answer any of his calls or texts and when Dean had called him to find out just what had happened he'd gotten an earful from the eldest Winchester before he'd been able to say two words.
When he'd finally gotten to explain his side of the story Dean was actually the one to tell him to make the trip to Sioux Falls. "I know bandit man, actions speak a lot louder than words. If you want her listen you've got to make the first move or she's gonna think that you see her as something not worth fighting for"
----------
He noticed that Bobby's truck was missing but Jo's and Ellen's cars were parked near yours along with another truck that looked vaguely familiar but he couldn't quite put his thumb on it.
He walked up onto the porch and took a deep breath before knocking. He could hear your voice even muffled as it was when you hollered for Jo to answer the door and god help him his heart flipped hearing it. He missed you like crazy and only a few days had passed but this was different than a hunt or you visiting friends.
You'd left him, he still wasn't completely sure why. Why not wait until he got home? Why not ask him about the things Andrea had said, about why he was meeting with her to begin with. Why not trust that he loved you with everything he had and would never intentionally hurt you?
----------
The door swung open and for a second he assumed he'd have to duck a punch from the blonde. "What the hell do you want Benny?" She asked venom lacing every word. "I just want to talk to her Jo"
She opened her mouth to say something else but both froze when they heard your footsteps followed by you saying "Who was it Jo because we only got one more spare...." you trailed off when your eyes landed on Benny "What the hell do you want?" Jo grinned at you "Hey! That's what I said"
Tumblr media
You stood on the bottom step looking between Benny and Jo. You hadn't expected him to come here, you figured he'd give Bobby's place a wide berth with how you'd left Carencro.
"Darlin, can we please just talk?" He asked as you took the final step down to be not a foot away from him. "Elias squared away?" Jo asked and you cut your eyes at her "Yeah, I just checked on him. He's asleep"
Benny glanced up the stairs then back at you "Elias is here?" You nodded "He got hurt hunting a wendigo. We were the closest option" you noticed the look in his eyes and nearly laughed, was he really letting jealousy seep out? Good. Let him be jealous.
You looked at Jo again and she held your gaze. The two of you were able to talk with a few looks being thrown so she knew you were going to talk to Benny and knew you needed her near by in case your emotions got the best of you.
She nodded after a moment "I'm gonna go finish that lead for Sam and Dean" you nodded towards the porch "We'll be right outside"
----------
Benny followed you out onto the porch, resisting the urge to place his hand on your lower back. A familiar touch you normally would lean into that would more than likely get him punched at the moment.
Once the door shut behind you, you moved to sit on the wide banister that ran around the porch. You turned to face him, crossing your arms over your chest "You drove all this way. You wanted to talk. You got five minutes to say something worth listening to because I'm still feeling like a damn fool"
He nodded to himself. You deserved your anger, he'd went about this all wrong. The moment he spoke your name your eyes closed for a moment before you whispered "I can do better with you calling me by Bandit right now please"
--------
When you opened your eyes Benny was staring at you and your damn traitorous heart flipped at the attention of those blue eyes on you. Damn you loved him, this wouldn't hurt like this if you didn't.
"First of all, what Andrea said about me asking her to come through Carencro while you were gone is true" you felt tears threaten to spill from your eyes "Did you come all this way to break my heart further because if so just leave now"
A sound of a truck drew both of your attention and you cursed under your breath seeing it was Bobby and Ellen. That was all you needed. Benny waved a hand towards the truck as it parked "This was actually good timing because you may not believe me on some things but them two? You will"
-----------
You weren't sure what he meant but you watched as Bobby and Ellen both climbed out the truck and took in your current position. Ellen smiled slightly "Well hey Benny. Didn't expect to see you here" then looked towards you "Everything ok honey?" You nodded so she grabbed Bobby's arm "Let's head in"
Benny stopped them by saying "If it aint too much trouble I need you two to hang around just for a minute" Bobby and Ellen both looked at you so you nodded.
Benny turned his eyes back to you "Andrea was supposed to come through Carencro to get a check for her daddy so I could pay him back what I owed him. I met his assistant at the state line to drop off the check after what happened in New Orleans Xavier told Andrea she couldn't have dealings in any of his business any more"
You didn't know Benny owed Xavier anything. "Why did you owe him money?" You asked and he pointed to the house "The insurance on this place wasn't gonna pay out what Bobby needed to rebuild. This is where you grew up, Bobby is pratically your father. I did what I had to do for family"
You blinked back tears at his words. He'd indebted himself to Xavier for Bobby's house? You looked towards Bobby who gave the barest of nods "The check had Xaviers name on it" "The ring?" You asked, the anger that had been fueling you for days quickly slipping away.
Benny turned towards Ellen as he pulled the necklace from his pocket "Did you or did you not slip down to the French quarter and spend the better part of a day with me and Elizabeth helping me to find this damn ring?" She nodded "Bandit if you would've told us what the fight was between you and Benny we could've helped clear it up before now"
Your eyes were glued onto Benny's. "Thank you for clearing it up" Ellen smiled then herded Bobby inside with a whisper of "Give em a minute"
---------
You watched them go in then looked back at Benny. "I'm sorry I left the way I did" He shrugged "I kind of deserved it for not handling things better"
You laughed lightly "Can I ask one thing" he nodded "Of course" you pointed towards the door "For a second you were jealous of Elias being here" "Not a question but yeah I was jealous of my girl playing nurse to one of her exes"
You took a step towards him, noticing how he tracked your movements "Now imagine Elias telling you I was meeting him without you knowing, that something I gave you that you absolutely loved and cherished more than any other materialistic item on this earth had been bought for him first. Imagine him throwing every damn insecurity you have in your face in a crowded coffee shop in front of Sam, Dean and Elizabeth"
His eyes looked so damn sad you wanted nothing more than to pull him into a kiss. "I'm so sorry darlin but I am telling you here and now, I never loved Andrea like I love you. Coming home to you being gone? Stabbing me would've hurt less. Please give us a second chance because I know you still love me and I will do anything to prove how much I love you"
You wiped your eyes free of the tears that had managed to escape "No more secrets?" "No more secrets" you nodded towards the necklace in his hand "Better part of a day huh?" The smile he gave you made your heart flip again "Needed it to be perfect for you"
You took a deep breath and could practically see the thoughts playing through his head. He was worried, worried that the trust he'd carefully built with you was gone, that he'd lost you for good. "One more thing" you spoke and his eyes shot up to meet yours "Anything"
The tone of his voice alone made your heart flip and heat rush into your stomach. "Kiss me like you mean it?" A smile slipped onto his face before he quickly covered the area between you, pulling you into his arms.
You'd kissed Benny a thousand times but this one was so damn full of emotion, the way he kissed you made your head swim. By the time you pulled away to catch your breath, both of your chests were heaving slightly "I love you more than I ever have or ever could love anyone else. I've lived the last two days thinking I lost you and I don't want to ever face that again"
You laughed lightly, ducking your head down to place a kiss on his neck "We are hunters Benny, that doesn't normally bode well" He pulled back to look down at you and you couldn't help but laugh "I love you too Benny. If I didn't love you as much as I do I wouldn't have gotten so damn hurt"
He pulled you into another kiss then slipped your necklace over your head. Once it was resting against your chest he tapped it gently "This belongs here and for the record I never bought her a ring. She bought herself one and told me it was our engagement ring..You're the one woman I've ever bought a ring for. You're the only woman I want"
You felt more tears slip out of your eyes but he quickly wiped them away before you said "Shut up and kiss me again Benny"

Do you think Aegon VI is Rhaegar-critical? Joncon must be a biased source of information, and there's no way he hasn't been at least attempting to poison his mind against Lyanna and his mother.
Hi there! (And sorry for the delay.)
JonCon may personally have been horribly biased against the legally wedded wife of his life-long crush.
Jon Connington remembered Prince Rhaegar's wedding all too well. Elia was never worthy of him. She was frail and sickly from the first, and childbirth only left her weaker. After the birth of Princess Rhaenys, her mother had been bedridden for half a year, and Prince Aegon's birth had almost been the death of her. She would bear no more children, the maesters told Prince Rhaegar afterward. (ADWD, The Griffin Reborn)
But neither has he been raising Aegon by himself, unencumbered by anyone else's input (which is especially relevant if you consider that Lemore may well be her former lady-in-waiting Ashara Dayne). He is also not so stupid as to discount the value that Elia's name adds to Aegon's cause.
My lords, I give you Aegon Targaryen, firstborn son of Rhaegar, Prince of Dragonstone, by Princess Elia of Dorne … soon, with your help, to be Aegon, the Sixth of His Name, King of Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms." (...)
Griff had heard enough of the captain-general’s cowardice. “We will not be alone. Dorne will join us, must join us. Prince Aegon is Elia’s son as well as Rhaegar’s.” “That’s so,” the boy said, “and who is there left in Westeros to oppose us? A woman.” (ADWD, The Lost Lord)
And he is quick to make use of it, personal feelings aside.
To Prince Doran of House Martell, You will remember me, I pray. I knew your sister well, and was a leal servant of your good-brother. I grieve for them as you do. I did not die, no more than did your sister's son. To save his life we kept him hidden, but the time for hiding is done. A dragon has returned to Westeros to claim his birthright and seek vengeance for his father, and for the princess Elia, his mother. In her name I turn to Dorne. Do not forsake us. Jon Connington Lord of Griffin's Roost Hand of the True King (TWOW, Arianne I)
I sincerely doubt that JonCon would have felt it in his interest to try and turn Aegon against his own mother. Even if he had, we know that Aegon is very well capable of forming his own opinions and making his own decisions.
We have no information about what Aegon thinks of his father, let alone Lyanna. But I find this passage particularly telling:
"You look a proper prince," he told the boy. "Your father would be proud if he could see you." Young Griff ran his fingers through his hair. "I am sick of this blue dye. We should have washed it out." (ADWD, The Lost Lord)
JonCon gives him a very heart-felt compliment that could mean the world to a son trying to live up to the legacy stolen from his family, to his revered late father. But Aegon doesn't react at all. He voices a dismissive opinion, changes the subject to something else, instead. There is no warmth at all in response to these words.
He's interested in his "true father", he reacts to Tyrion's prompt about him, but I doubt that he feels the kind of connection to Rhaegar that would be resistant to questioning his actions.
We already know he is prickly about the events of the Rebellion.
"Elsewise Prince Rhaegar’s friend might have been on hand when my father sacked King’s Landing, to save Prince Rhaegar’s precious little son from getting his royal brains dashed out against a wall.” The lad flushed. “That was not me. I told you. That was some tanner’s son from Pisswater Bend whose mother died birthing him. His father sold him to Lord Varys for a jug of Arbor gold. He had other sons but had never tasted Arbor gold. Varys gave the Pisswater boy to my lady mother and carried me away.” (ADWD, Tyrion VI)
Why the anger, unless the story is one that doesn't sit right with him? He's overtly dismissive of the child that died in his place, emphasizes the depravity of the father. (The inclusion of the mother's death in childbirth is more than likely an invocation of Lyanna's fate by GRRM.) The worthless tanner abandoned his child for a taste of something new. Sound like anyone we may have heard of before?
I'd say GRRM is preparing a confrontation with his "true father" for Aegon, in terms of examining how he and his mother and sister were equally abandoned. This is a mental place where his immersion in his Dornish family and his probable confrontation with Jon Snow, whose own mother was also a victim of Rhaegar, can all connect and lead to an examination of what Targaryen kingship is all about. (Hint: it's dragon-based oppression.)
From that place, Aegon can become Dany's antagonist in a role beyond mere rivalry over the metal chair but in terms of a larger conflict: fighting Dany becomes about preventing her from taking absolute and unaccountable power in the name of House Targaryen once more. Instead of fighting for his father's side, he would be fighting for everything informed by his mother's side: Westeros, Dorne, the Rhoynar. People, not dragons.
I'd say everything points to GRRM setting up events to go that way.

So I finished binging The Magnus Archives
and I genuinely have so many thoughts that I can't even put into words
Spoilers for TMA as a whole, I guess
I'll start with Sasha because I want to do every point that hit heavy for me and if I don't do it in order I'll forget something
The idea of being replaced and forgotten, just, my God. And really, how little of the real Sasha we even got from the whole podcast is tragic. We got so little of her, liked her when we first heard her encounter with Michael, and then, boom, she's gone. Replaced. And as listeners, we Know Something will happen, but you just get that building dread every episode, what will Not!Sasha do? Is there a chance real Sasha could come back?
And by the end, we forget about Sasha because of everything else happening.
Tim was worse for me because as soon as his new arc was building up, I knew immediately there was ever going to be one ending for him. His building anger, his loss of his previous self, the information on his past and how it related to the next big fight they were going to. It was obvious he was going to get blown up as soon as the explosives were introduced.
And we don't get much mourning for Tim, because Jon is in a coma, Daisy is trapped, and Martin is losing himself.
I could go on a whole side tangent about the Lonely, make a list of all those hard hitting lines Martin said.
I'm not enough on my own. Can't get it out of my head.
The finale hurts. I can't stop myself from crying. I keep going back and forth about Jon's character
We watch him make questionable decisions for the entire podcast. His whole conspiracy fueled paranoia and just driving everyone away as if it's going to keep them safe. His final choice to take over instead of Elias
It's selfish, because ok, fuck lemme try to get this in words
Jon and Martin are opposites the whole time, I think
Martin's big speech to Peter and Elias where he says, "I'm not a chosen one" always stood out to me. Because there's times where Jon seems to believe HE needs to fix everything, that HE needs to keep his friends safe, that HE needs to save the world because he is SO SO guilty.
And Martin thinks so little of himself, but he puts so much love in others. It's so sad to see his change in S4 with the Lonely, because it's so distinctly not Martin.
He never stops hating himself, never stops loving Jon. Everything he does is for Jon. He had nothing to live for when Jon was gone.
They are each other's reasons. But Martin could be anywhere with Jon and be happy.
Jon needs to fix his wrongs to make them both happy. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter, because it is wholeheartedly what Jon believes.
And so he believes sacrificing himself to try to fix things will be better for Martin, but he never asked Martin what would actually make him happy.
Martin just wants to be by Jon's side.
And back to the selfish thing, I don't mean it in a negative way. I mean that Jon felt he literally needed to give himself up to atone. Like he had lost all self worth. Like he didn't care about himself.
He puts Martin in the worst possible position.
And I cried so hard at the ending, because I knew that they weren't Somewhere Else. They were dead. It mirrored Gertrude and her assistants, the foreshadowing of their deaths as Sasha and Tim dropped one by one.
There was no happy ending for us. There was no fixed world after what traumatic experience had been unleashed. Jon had to pay for his mistakes, but love caused Martin to go with him. (I think about those last few moments of Martin. Alive. Looking down at Jon's bleeding corpse. The panopticon crumbling around him. Martin knows he will die, but he's just had to kill his only Reason to live anyways)
I can't even say they're happy together in the fucking afterlife because the End or whatever exists and claims everyone. I always interpreted that as Hell existing for everyone after death.
And don't even get me started on the themes of finding happiness and love in the middle of the apocalypse
They just wanted to fix things man. It wasn't even Jon's fucking fault, AND OKAY THIS IS ANOTHER THING
I SWEAR Elias has to be Web aligned I fucking swear the strings he pulled throughout the whole fucking series dude. I think the Eye and Web are pretty close anyways but that Manipulating Bastard FUCK HIM
Jon believes he's done everything wrong, because he refuses to blame Dickhead McGee. Doesn't help that everyone is on his ass the whole podcast, and like, yeah, Jon does some stupid shit but come the fuck on why did the foreshadowing of his slowly worse decisions have to end like this man I can't stop thinking about it

There are many people in the fandom who claim Sansa is the one who resembles Ned the most out of her siblings. Do you think that’s true?
I have always disagreed with this fandom viewpoint. I would think that logically the characters who resemble Ned the most would be the characters who value Ned’s wisdom and advice, and that would be Arya Stark and Jon Snow.
Sansa and Ned are very different in terms of personality and characterization. Ned loves his family above all else. He sacrifices his honor for his sister and takes in her baby despite it being a stain on his honor. His love for his sister outweighs his friendships with Robert Baratheon and Jon Arryn.  Sansa, on the other hand, keeps supporting Joffrey over her sister every single time and puts her little sister in danger by telling Cersei that it's Arya who is the traitor.
Ned confesses to treason to save his daughter’s life. The only reason he warns Cersei of the danger to her and her children was because he didn’t want Myrcella and Tommen to suffer the same fate as Elia’s babies. The only reason Sansa tattles all of Ned's plans to Cersei ending up with the girls - Arya, Jeyne and Sansa herself - trapped in KL is because she wanted to remain in KL, marry Joffrey and become queen.
Ned’s act was selfless, putting himself and his family in grave danger to save his enemy’s children. Sansa’s act is selfish, putting her father and her family in grave danger because she wanted to become queen.
In the post I made about  Ned’s friendship with Robert Baratheon, I have seen comparisons made between Ned’s blindspot for Robert and Sansa’s blindspot towards Joffrey. I disagree!
Ned’s friendship with Robert was despite him knowing that Robert is not a good person. Ned condemns Robert for supporting the deaths of Elia and her children. He resigns as Hand when Robert continues to press for Dany’s assassination. It’s in Ned’s own POV chapter that he critiques Robert as a person. Ned’s opinion was pretty much that Robert sucks big time but he’s my friend so I love him.
Sansa on the other hand does not acknowledge Joffrey’s sadistic villainy even when it’s right in front of her, because she wants to marry him and become queen. She’s willfully blind to everything he does. Instead she blames Arya and Mycah - the innocents in this - for all of Joffrey’s wrong doing.
At first she thought she hated [Joffrey] for what they’d done to Lady, but after Sansa had wept her eyes dry, she told herself that it had not been Joffrey’s doing, not truly. The queen had done it; she was the one to hate, her and Arya. Nothing bad would have happened except for Arya.
She could not hate Joffrey tonight. He was too beautiful to hate - Sansa, AGoT
In fact, rather than being similar to Ned, Sansa is more similar to her mother Catelyn here. Just like Catelyn blames and hates an innocent child Jon Snow for something Ned did because she wants to love her husband and be happy with him, similarly Sansa hates Arya for something Joffrey did because she loves Joffrey, wants to marry him and become a queen who can do things like order Arya around.
Notice also in the quote above, how at this point of time, Sansa also blames the queen - Cersei - for Lady’s death and thinks on how Cersei and Arya were the ones to hate. Later, when she wants to prevent Ned from taking her away from KL, she secretly goes to Cersei and tattles all of his plans that he tells her in confidence. She no longer hates or blames Cersei anymore because Cersei is necessary for her to stay in KL and marry Joffrey. Sansa therefore keeps changing and crafting the narrative according to whatever suits her personal self interests instead of having a honest conversation with the truth.
A repeat of this is happening at the Vale where her little cousin is being slowly poisoned by dangerously high doses of SweetSleep and the Maester has outright told Sansa that this is harmful to SweetRobin and she ignores this because Littlefinger’s plans are more important and crafts a narrative that SweetRobin will be perfectly okay.
There can be no one more honest than Ned Stark (The only two instances where he lies is to save his nephew and his daughter) and that is in stark contrast to Sansa herself.
Then there are other aspects like Ned Stark’s relationship with the workers of Winterfell. Again, it’s Ned younger daughter who mirrors him here.
Her father used to say that a lord needed to eat with his men, if he hoped to keep them. “Know the men who follow you,” she heard him tell Robb once, “and let them know you. Don’t ask your men to die for a stranger.“ - Arya, aGoT
Arya had loved nothing better than to sit at her father’s table and listen to them talk. She had loved listening to the men on the benches too; to freeriders tough as leather, courtly knights and bold young squires, grizzled old men-at-arms. She used to throw snowballs at them and help them steal pies from the kitchen. Their wives gave her scones and she invented names for their babies and played monsters-and-maidens and hide-the-treasure and come-into-my-castle with their children. - Arya, AGoT
Sansa knew all about the sorts of people Arya liked to talk to: squires and grooms and serving girls, old men and naked children, rough-spoken freeriders of uncertain birth. Arya would make friends with anybody. This Mycah was the worst; a butcher’s boy, thirteen and wild, he slept in the meat wagon and smelled of the slaughtering block. Just the sight of him was enough to make Sansa feel sick, but Arya seemed to prefer his company to hers. - Sansa, AGoT
Sansa does not like to interact with the workers of the Winterfell and looks down on Arya’s interaction with them while Arya follows in Ned’s footsteps and spends time listening and learning from them.
So, yeah, I can’t think of any one similarity between Ned and Sansa and am always baffled that this is a popular opinion in fandom. Of all the siblings Sansa is the least like Ned, highlighted by the fact that Sansa never thinks of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell the way Arya, Jon and Bran do.

What’s the Irish Magnus Institute equivalent like?
Fun fact Montpelier Hill is also known as the Hellfire Club…
Tumblr media
An Cumann Taighde Asarlaíochta (or the CTA) in County Dublin was known to most as simply a group of ghost-hunting and heretical lunatics who were at best mocked and at worst demonised by the Church to a point that baffled anyone who wasn’t a strict Catholic. There were no churches within a 1.26 Square mile of the place, this was managed by it being at the top of Montpelier Hill. It was a lovely hike, and a lot of supernatural and ghost tours would take you there, officially it was a branch of Trinity College Dublin. Some argued that only because back when Ireland was still under British Colonialism Queen Victoria like most Victorians was fascinated by occultism. Supposedly she publicly wanted the CTA to prove that the Pagan religion was dangerous and satanic, and secretly she believed in the work of the founder of the CTA - Herbert Brennan. Famous friends, researchers, and those who have funded the CTA through out the years include Arthur Conan Doyle, James Wright, Oscar Wilde, Elias Bouchard, W.B. Yeats, Peter Lukas, William Butler, and the like.
It functions in a similar way to the Magnus Archives, which makes sense as some of the researchers would tell you it was originally built with Jonah Magnus intentions in mind. Whether this is true or not has been lost to history but it was hardly a secret that Magnus was a tyrannical colonialist who wished to have as much control over the world as physically possible. The main difference is that the CTA whilst once founded by an avatar for the Eye - Brennan’s alliance and probably romantic attachments to Jonah Magnus was well known, in the first decade of the twentieth century it was shortly in the possession of the Slaughter - an English woman named Helena Asquith, she was killed by Constance Lynch a devotee of the Hunt, who held it for decades until 1999 when it fell into those most called the Unseelie court but those in the know knew to be the Stranger. This very avatar is currently sitting in the head office and is known as Diarmuid Quan.
The building itself is fairly unremarkable, whilst it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside, the most interesting and unique forms of fungi that people come from miles around to see, the building itself looks just like an old Victorian education institute. Some say it used to be where suspected Changelings were taken, records back this claim up as many children were taken there and whilst they were never seen again it does seem that a lot of later researchers appeared as if from no where. If spoken to they would have had perfectly explainable childhoods, maybe they’d even seem charming, if somewhat thin and sickly. The jobs of the researchers is similar to that of the Magnus Archive, to collect statements - but where as the institute collect them on tapes and file them away the CTA likes to dig their claws into the people themselves. People who give statements to the CTA talk about how affable and warm they are, and it takes them along time to realise that every single one of them will soon became more and more distant to their families and friends until a local circus comes to town and for some bizarre reason they are compelled to join them. Of course no one would connect a circus from mainland Europe with the CTA, what a bizarre connection to make.
The people (or Avatars, if you wish to be pedantic) who work with those who submit statements to the CTA are split between those who want answers or power. They are:
The previously introduced Diarmuid Quan, a spindly man who was half Chinese half Irish. His father’s family were wealthy back in Shanghai as the owners of the country’s biggest theatres. They have a contract which every acrobat in China has to sign to be able to perform in order to perform at an officially licensed theatre, one that is terrifyingly binding. He sits in an enormous lavish office. It seems just like it was originally crafted and designed by a friend of the then British Queen. The main input in the decor is the amount of toys, dolls, and wooden figures he has dotted about the place. He’s a small, unassuming man, until that is you realise his smile never cracks, and that the puppets he keeps seem to always be in a different place every time you look.
Domhnall Stoker is officially the head researcher and Quan’s closest confidant. his relation to Timothy Stoker of the Magnus Institute is unknown to himself - but he is a second cousin on his father’s side. Some might think the link to the Stranger is hereditary but that is simply not the case. Domhnall is much more aware of Quan’s actions and works very closely with him. The rumours say that they are in a relationship, but the nature of it is unclear.
Niamh Mohan, a researcher and a Mincéir (usually known as an Irish Traveller but she would never describe herself that way) who lost her family in an arson attack on their homes. Or that was the official story, and it made sense she thought since hate attacks against her community were common. That wasn’t how she remembered it though, but when she told the police about a strange cult who worshipped the Light who moved in nearby they wouldn’t hear a word of it.
Otylia Soltys, a research who as a child she was runaway who was taken in by the Circus of the Other, not that she knew what it was then. She was trained as an acrobat and they took advantage of her hypermobile joints to train her into being a unique and beautiful performer. Of course, the circus’s grip was tight and painful, any attempt to run away resulted in her being dragged back. Even when she ran to Ireland she found herself unable to escape the grip of the CTA.
Ravi Nayar was taken from their family at the age of six, their strict Hindu parents definitely did not think they were a changeling but enough of their neighbours did that they were taken from their home in the middle of the night. What exactly happened between then and the present day Ravi has no idea, their earliest memory is waking up in a warm, comfortable bed at the CTA and being told they’ve always worked there. They have always been loved and cared for by the Stranger, this has always been their home.

the love connection - elias pettersson
word count: 3.1k words
note: idk how i feel about this but it’s fine! we’re fine! also my brain is all over the place so sorry if this is kinda bad. anyways welcome to 3k of me being sad about the season being over😔 and special thank u to @gigglyparker for helping me w this ily <33
Tumblr media
You shouldn’t have done it like this. It was supposed to be done over dinner after the playoff run that you were so sure they’d get, not through a lousy voicemail you left mid game as he was in Edmonton for their last game of the season. The guilt was almost enough to deter you from doing it but you knew that you had already waited too long. It wasn’t fair for you to keep Elias, he deserved better.
It took you two hours to pack everything you owned and get it out of Elias’ apartment which had also somehow became yours despite your apartment being across town, completely suitable to live in. You were up and out of his place before he got home that night, flying in late after their game in Edmonton. He didn’t know that, calling for you when he opened the door only to be met with silence. The first thing he noticed was that your big stupid fluffy blanket that you demanded always stayed on the couch was gone. He set his bag down before venturing further into the apartment, only to find your key on the counter, now separated from your keychain that it was usually kept on.
He called your name again, a little more panicked but when the apartment stayed silent, he reached for his phone, he pulled it out to see that he’d missed a call from you and there was a voicemail as well. He hadn’t even gotten the chance to look at his phone before now, too busy with the boys and trying to figure out when he was able to leave Vancouver. He played the voicemail, holding the phone up to his ear as your voice flowed through the speaker.
“Elias… hi. Look I know this is such a shitty thing to do but I just can’t do it when you have a chance to talk me out of it. I need you to know that you didn’t do anything wrong. As cliche as it is, it’s not you… it’s me. This is just something I need to do and I think we’ll both be better off because of it. So… don’t try to call or text me, I’ve already blocked your number. We both need this, okay? And we need a clean break or it’ll be too hard. I think I’ve talked myself out of this 10 times by now but… it needs to be done. I’m sorry E” He sat staring blankly at the wall as the message ended. That’s it? Almost a year long relationship just ended that easily? Elias wasn’t sure what to do with himself. His head was spinning with how out of the blue this was. He thought you were happy, that you were in love. He’d never been so blatantly confused.
You thought it was all a joke at the beginning; Elias somehow seemed to recognize you and pick you out of the crowd at the rare game you attended, and always delivered on passing you a puck. It truly didn’t seem real, almost as if it was a strange coincidence that it kept happening. Once could have been a funny story, twice was a fluke, but three times… it was a little harder to explain.
(1)
“Shut up! He’s totally looking at you” You rolled your eyes with a smile on your face as your friend nudged your arm. The he in question was one of the Canucks players that were warming up in front of you.
“There’s like fifty people he could be looking at, we’re kind of in a huge crowd right now”
“Oh my god look” Your attention goes in the direction she’s looking to see Elias making his way over to your side. He stopped to bend down and pick up a puck and the little kids around you all started to get riled up when he stopped in front of the corner you were standing in. At this point, you hated your friend for forcing you right against the glass where she claimed you had to be because how else would she get the good quality Quinn pictures? You’re brought back to reality when you feel smacking on your arm and you hear something hitting the glass. You look to see Elias tapping the puck on the glass and most definitely looking at you. He smiles quickly before stepping back and tossing the puck over which you catch easily. Your friend is busy bruising your arm as you gaze at Elias who simply smiles and skates away, continuing his warm up like nothing happened.
(2)
“You’ve got to go down there again” You laughed when your friend dragged you down the stairs at Rogers Arena for the second time.
“I don’t know what you expect to happen”
“He’s gonna see you. Trust me Y/n, there was a connection last time, he totally loves you” She said excitedly, finally stopping when you reach the glass on the Canucks side.
“A love connection?” You ask, totally humoured by her excitement.
“Exactly!” She exclaimed, which made you laugh. “Gosh you could’ve at least worn something to support your boyfriend” She gave your Av’s hat a distasteful look as she straightened out her own Canucks jersey.
“He’s not my boyfriend, you freak and Colorado is much better of a team, thank you very much” It was honestly the only reason you agreed to come tonight. She had been bugging you to come to another game, to test the ‘love connection’ of course, but you had turned down ever offer until you realized the Av’s were in town.
“Just wait… I bet you’ll be official by the end of the year”
“You’re insane, I’ve never talked to him and he’s a professional athlete, it’s not going to happen”
“Shh your boy’s here” You rolled your eyes but turned to watch the team come out onto the ice. It was about five minutes in when Elias came over, once again looking at you. You couldn’t even deny it this time, you were in an area where there weren’t many people and your friend was way too busy planning your life with Elias to hear your protests anyways. He skated up, juggling a puck on his stick as he flicked his gaze to you. He scrunched up his face as he tapped his own head, gesturing to yours and you laughed as you adjusted your Colorado hat proudly. He smiled and nodded at you before tossing the puck over from the blade of his stick.
(3)
You were in the corner this time, your friend had called for a much bigger group to attend tonight’s game, claiming they needed to witness the love connection before the season was over. “This is incredibly unnecessary”
“We need witnesses, this is your epic love story Y/n/n” Your friend announced and you laughed.
You stood sandwiched between your friends and watched as Elias skated backwards, colliding with the boards right in front of you and waiting for a moment. A couple of your friends had their phones out, surely snapping pictures and videos but you stayed frozen, hoping they’d stop because you could feel the heat rushing over your body. Elias left a few seconds later only to come back with a puck on his stick, tapping the glass with the blade before tossing the puck over for you. You shook your head with a smile, holding the puck up and he grinned before skating away.
“You’re going to be so happy I got that on video, we can play it at your wedding!” You groan at your friends incessant dreaming. Although you would be lying if you said the little routine was getting old, yet if it was going to continue, you’d have to start giving pucks away or else your apartment will end up a hockey equipment room.
It wasn’t supposed to ever go this far. Elias getting you a puck whenever he saw you at a game had somehow led to running into him and him getting your number.
“Dude, it’s the girl” Your curiosity got the best of you as you tore your attention away from your laptop when you heard the voice. You look up to find three men staring at you, two of them looking away quickly when they realize they’ve been caught and the third, sending you a small smile before turning away. You weren’t stupid, you recognized them immediately but you didn’t want to bother them so you stayed in your seat and tried to focus back on your work. You didn’t look back to the group of boys which took more willpower than you’d like to admit but your focus was broken when someone bumped into the empty chair across from you at your table in the coffee shop.
“Do you like hockey?” You raise an eyebrow when you look up to see Elias Pettersson standing in front of you. Looking past him, you see Quinn and Brock who are laughing at their friend’s horrible first line.
“I don’t hate it” You answered as you held back laughter, honestly curious to see where he was going with this.
“I’m sorry I just… do you go to Canucks games?” You bit your cheek at the possibility of him remembering you. The past few times you’d gone to a game, your friends had dragged you down to ice-level for warmups because ‘it’s the only way to get the full experience’ and you were 3 for 3 in getting a puck from none other than Mr. Elias Pettersson himself.
“I’ve been to a few recently, yeah” Elias’ eyes widened a little before he regained his composure. Brock and Quinn were still shaking their heads at him even though they could barely hear the conversation. “Although I’m assuming you already know that?” Elias looks like he’s been caught and it only feeds your amusement.
“I thought you looked familiar” His cheeks flushed and you grinned.
“Any reason you’ve been throwing pucks at me Mr. Pettersson?”
“I had to get your attention somehow” Elias shrugged. His shy demeanor was quite frankly, shocking to you. You wouldn’t have expected someone with the job and lifestyle that he has to be so reserved.
“Well congratulations, you’ve definitely got it”
“Does that mean you’d like to go out sometime?” Elias looked nervous but you found it endearing.
“Are you asking me on a date?” He nodded shyly and you laughed. “I’d love to”
“See? I did it with my words this time” Elias said proudly, which made you laugh again.
“Took you long enough, I’m running out of space for all these pucks”
Agreeing to getting coffee had turned into date after date and before you knew it, you were in a full fledged relationship with an NHL player.
You had convinced yourself it would be a fling. Maybe a couple months of casual dates and hanging out. It was not supposed to end with you crying in your apartment, hating yourself for what you did. The breakup was your choice. Your fault. You self-sabotaged. Which meant you had no reason to be upset. However, seeing Elias living his best life, traipsing around Europe didn’t make anything easier.
“You’re back” You breath hitched when you came face to face with him for the first time in four months. It seemed like a cruel joke that the spot you ran into him just happened to be the coffee shop that you had met in last year.
“I’m back” Elias said quietly, distracted by how familiar yet different you looked. The busy café seemed to slow down when your eyes locked on his. The noise dulled and you swear that you could hear your own heart beating. “How have you been?” You almost snorted at his question, thinking of how you could say ‘horrible and this was the worst summer of my life, please take me back’ without sounding desperate.
“Fine, you?” You weren’t fine. This summer felt like torture and every second that you spent away from Elias was painful.
“Amazing” It was silent for a beat and you were about to turn around, give a simple goodbye, and leave without turning back for your own sake but Elias spoke up. “Why did you do it?”
“This really isn’t the place Elias” You sighed, looking around at the people who had already looked over when the realized it was the Elias Pettersson.
“Can we talk then?” You wanted to say no, to leave and hopefully never see him again but the other part of you was so desperate for anything from him that one more conversation seemed like a major win.
“I want an explanation” He said as soon as you stepped outside.
“Elias-”
“No. You left me with no warning, I want to know why” Elias was stubborn and as it was in your relationship, you were incredibly annoyed by it.
“It just wasn’t the right time”
“That’s crap” He scoffs and you roll your eyes.
“You can’t ask for a reason and then get mad when I give you one”
“I won’t be mad when you tell me the real reason” He said simply and you huffed. Of course he knew that wasn’t it. It was Elias, the man that knew you better than you knew yourself. He would obviously be able to tell when you were lying.
“You were going to Sweden… it was going to be too hard” You were terrified of Elias leaving. It already sucked when he left on road trips but that was only for a week or two at a time, this would be four months without him.
“We should’ve talked, we could’ve worked it out”
“No Elias… I didn’t think I could function with you being gone and I know that’s dramatic but… well it doesn’t matter now anyways” It was over, you had made sure of that all those months ago when you made the call.
“It does matter” He sighed, stopping to look at you.
“I couldn’t deal with you leaving. I thought that if I ended it on my own terms, it wouldn’t hurt so much” Your confession slipped out and you regretted it immediately.
“How’d that work out?” Elias broke the silence while smirking and you were terribly close to smacking it off his face but you refrained.
“Amazing, you asshole, thank you” You smiled sarcastically and he laughed a bit. The lighter mood brought a small smile to both of your faces as you walked down the sidewalk together. You weren’t sure where you were going especially since your car was parked the other way but you didn’t say anything.
“Don’t call me an asshole, I’m not the one who broke up with you on voicemail”
“That’s a little uncalled for” You grumbled. “I’m sorry, okay? It was stupid and immature but I figured four months apart would be torture so it was easier to just end it”
“Do you love me?”
“What?” You asked, unsure if you heard him wrong.
“What didn’t you hear?” He replied and you narrowed your eyes at him. Elias Pettersson was a major pain in your ass and he wasn’t about to change.
“This isn’t what I agreed to talking about E” Your stomach was doing flips and you felt lightheaded.
“I know you didn’t actually want to break up with me and now that I know it was for a bad reason…”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Just answer me”
“Fine, yes, I love you” You confessed. “I saw you had quite the summer though. Did our breakup really not affect you?” You watched through instagram as he travelled to Greece and Rome before coming back to visit Quinn in Michigan. It was hard seeing him have what seemed like a dream summer break while you were suffering in Vancouver.
“No” He answered simply and you paled. “Because I knew we’d get back together”
“We’re not back together” You pointed out and he smiled.
“Give me a minute” He said quickly before taking a deep breath. “I love you and I can’t pretend like I understand why you broke up with me but I don’t care because I want you. If you don’t want me to leave then come with me. I’ll get you a spot on our plane and you can come on every road trip this season. I’ve already gotten you stuff at my house in Sweden, I was ready for you to come this year” Your heart is pounding and you’re waiting for him to tell you he’s joking but when his expression stays serious, you know that’s not the case.
“Really?” You ask cautiously and he nods to confirm. “I’m terrified of losing you Elias”
“I promise you… I’m not going anywhere, you’re all I want, love” He holds out his hand hesitantly and you grab it, looking up at him with a wide grin on your face.
“We’ve come a long way, hey?” You ask him and he looks at you funnily.
“Why because I don’t have to throw pucks at you anymore?” He asked and you smiled as you squeezed his hand in yours.
“Mhm” He laughs lightly and you tug him down so that he’s a little closer to you. “I love you, E”
“I love you too, now come on” he kisses your forehead quickly before taking off while dragging you behind him.
“Where are we going?” You ask as pulls you down the sidewalk.
“I need to get you a puck” You laugh loudly as he leads the way to Rogers Arena where he was already heading for a morning practice which he was now almost late for. You talked a bit as you walked down the streets of Vancouver, more Elias telling you all about his new house in Sweden and how excited he was for you to see it next summer. Thankfully, the arena wasn’t too far from your coffee shop and you were there in less than 15 minutes. You tried to ignore Brock and Quinn’s knowing looks when they saw you but you couldn’t maintain your straight face when they attacked you in hugs.
Elias presented you with your puck and kissed you in an empty hall of Rogers Arena and while it was probably silly, you both thought it was romantic which is all that mattered.
“I’ll see you after?” He asks, slowly walking away after Quinn came to warn him that practice was starting soon.
“Sure… oh and Elias?” He turned back with bright eyes, humming to acknowledge you. “I won’t need a spot on your plane, I think I’ll be okay” You grin and he shakes his head while laughing.

Alastember: Risa Headcanons
-As a child, even before he knew of his father’s alcoholism, Cordelia was still always favorited. Their father doted on her, even as a baby, often leading Alastair to entertain himself. Sona was a little better, but she also always had set ideas of what the someday “man” of the household should act like and wasn’t ever willing to stick up to Elias. Risa on the other hand was like the parent he never had.
-When she wasn’t working, she would play games with him and watch to make sure he didn’t hurt himself during training. Alastair always insisted that he wanted to help her cook and clean, so she let him. Of course they kept it a secret from Sona and Elias who wouldn’t see it fit for a little boy.
-When Cordelia was old enough to play, Alastair spent less time with Risa. He still often came to her when in need for advice or when he needed someone to bandage him up, but the siblings enjoyed playing with someone their own age. Often times they would fight with wooden swords outside, each claiming to be the bearer of Cortana. That is until Alastair discovered the truth of his father’s alcholism.
-While the siblings were still close, an invisible rift formed between Alastair and Cordelia. His relationship with his parents was worse than ever before, with Elias his burden and Sona his conspirator. Risa was the only one who showed concern for him being late at night frequenting bars to fetch his father. She would often wait near the door and assist him the moment he arrived. There was one time where Alastair couldn’t find Elias and Risa went out searching with him. Elias forbid it from ever happening again, but the little boy was grateful for her help even only once.
-Of course, she was still a servant in their household, so Risa couldn’t quite be a parent to Alastair. She couldn’t be unprofessional in her job, but she did the best she could to make Alastair’s life easier.
-The understanding they came to was that if Alastair ever came to her for help, she would, but she couldn’t probe him about what was going on his life. There were days he wished that she could, but he also knew she had a job to keep. While he rarely outright said his problems, he would often claim as friend of his was going through a situation and asks her for advice on it. They both knew who he was talking about, but he hated feeling weak and asking for help.
-She knew some of what happened at the Academy and the bullying that he endured. While he never outright said what he did to stop it, she was able to infer his actions. Risa never judged him, only tried to guide him in the right direction. For he didn’t need to someone to scold him, but a shoulder to lean on.
-He told her that he was seeing someone, but that couldn’t tell anyone when him and Charles started dating. At first Risa was thrilled that he found happiness, but as time went on she started to question whether Alastair was being treated right. She tried to get him to talk about his relationship problems, but he would always insist that everything was fine. Risa guessed it was a man, but didn’t know who until they moved to London. She was the one to console him when he sent that letter to Charles breaking it off. Sona was still clueless about the whole matter and never seemed to even notice when Alastair stopped sneaking out at night.
-Risa had thought that Thomas would be a good fit for Alastair, since he came over that one night after Elias died. She knew he was the type of man that Alastair deserved, not someone like Charles.
-When Alastair and Thomas move into Cirenworth Hall with baby Carstairs, they kept Risa as staff. He couldn’t bear to let her go after so many years and she was delighted to help out Alastair and his new family.
Oops I posted this for the wrong day, but it is what it is.

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 64 - 65: Two Multi-part Finale (part 10: Sonic the Hedgehog #247)
Welcome back to my investigation of how Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series was actually a syndicated cartoon from the 80’s and 90’s!
Last time I discussed Sonic Universe #50, where Shard made his heroic final stand, Metal Sonic went from being a repeatedly blown up chump to a very, very scary robot, and Eggman implied that he had something big in the works. This brings us to Sonic the Hedgehog #247, the final pre-boot issue of the series. Team Fighters had chased the Death Egg all the way to its fueling station in the Arctic, and joined forces with the Arctic Freedom Fighters (who thankfully were NOT characters that Ken Penders was claiming copyright for).
Tumblr media
The heroes smashed their way into the base and were surprised to be joined by none other than Silver. At the end of the Secret Freedom Fighters’ arc in Sonic Universe, Harvey Who had told Silver that he’d figured out who Silver’s supposed traitor was, and offscreen he explained everything he’d found out. Then at the end of Endangered Species, Shard had contacted Silver to tip him off that Team Fighters were heading to the Arctic, hence him showing up here. Sonic really didn’t have the patience for any more of Silver’s shenanigans, which is fair when you remember that Silver tried to first kill him, then Rotor, and then blamed the comatose Antoine, all in the name of stopping his supposed traitor. But Tails put together that Silver was part of a team working with Elias (or “the true king,” as they were now forced to refer to him as), and convinced Sonic to give him one more chance.
Tumblr media
If Silver was trying not to get Sonic angry again, he was failing abysmally.
Back in New Mobotropolis, Nicole and Team Freedom were officially presenting the newly rebuilt Castle Acorn when the latest in a series of accidents involving the city’s nanites occurred.
Tumblr media
Fortunately , Cream and Cheese had finally managed to figure out what was causing all these problems around the city. And so Cream took her theory to Rotor.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile back up North, Silver was explaining to everyone why Sally was his “traitor.”
Tumblr media
When Sally saved the planet from the world roboticiser only to fall victim to it herself, she inadvertantly kicked off a series of events that would doom the planet anyway. Sonic still wasn’t thrilled to have Silver there, but since the time traveller had now dedicated himself to saving Sally like the rest of them, Sonic let him tag along. Their first task was to infiltrate the Death Egg from below via an underwater tunnel.
Tumblr media
Whoops. Well that didn’t work - Eggman’s forces attacked and sounded the alarm. And Eggman, who was busy getting ready for his next big move, was not pleased with this new development.
Tumblr media
“Albert,” you say? Well if there was any doubt left that Eggman had already met Dr Wily - and after hinting that Metal Sonic would be working with Bass, there really shouldn’t have been - it seemed pretty clear now.
Tumblr media
Back in New Mobotropolis, Team Freedom had laid a trap for the Tails Doll, expecting it to try and destroy the city’s power plant when it was left unsupervised. Sure enough, the creepy little jerk took the bait. There was just one small problem. …well actually, it was a large problem.
Tumblr media
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again anyway - I don’t know what was going through Evan Stanley’s idea when she was drawing the Tails Doll’s kaiju form, but I guess I get the genital general idea of what she was going for. 😛
Back in the Arctic, things were looking pretty grim for Team Fighters and their friends. Mecha Sally had been authorised to shoot to kill, and she and her brain laser (called the “Boom Fant” by Ian Flynn) were on a rampage. Tails knocked Sonic out of the way of her point-blank shot, but both of them were hurt in the process.
Tumblr media
Amy tried to protect Sonic and Tails as Mecha Sally moved in for the kill, and I feel like in the original timeline that Silver’s future was a result of, this is where all three of them died. However in this time an injured Silver swooped in at the last possible second and used his psychokinesis to disable Mecha Sally.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately they only got a few seconds to enjoy their win before another Genesis Wave went off and the world faded to white.
And… that’s it. That’s how the preboot era of ArchieSonic ended. With the creative team facing the incredibly daunting task of having to take the story in an entirely new direction, the incredibly well-timed Sonic and Mega Man crossover gave them an extra few months to figure out where to go afterwards. So this latest Genesis Wave was set off by both Eggman and Wily, who used it to reshape both of their worlds.
Tumblr media
Sonic’s world was changed to one more like the games, set after the latest game in the series, Sonic Generations - wow, that makes me feel old - while Mega Man’s world was catapulted forward in time to after Mega Man 10. Combining their technology and robots, Eggman and Wily captured all of Sonic’s friends, transformed them into “roboticised masters,” and tasked them with retrieving all seven Chaos Emeralds. This would allow them to set off one last Genesis Wave that would essentially make them gods. Just like last time, Sonic transformed into his super form - this time with Mega Man joining him - and attempted to restore their worlds to how they were. While Mega Man was successful, Eggman threw a hissy fit and got in the way of Super Sonic, which… well… broke reality.
Tumblr media
The end result of this was a rebooted world for Sonic, absent of not just the characters that Ken Penders had claimed copyright over, but all the characters created by anyone who wasn’t part of the current creative team at the time. I guess that Archie wanted to play it safe and prevent any further copyright snafus from happening, and considering that Ken Penders wasn’t the only former employee who gave them trouble, I think this was probably the right decision. But it was nonetheless a decision that had a heavy impact on the pre-crossover storylines, most of which were either quickly resolved or just discarded entirely. The Secret Freedom Fighters no longer existed (except for Silver, who was doing his own thing), and neither did Geoffrey St. John. Naugus was still around and causing mayhem in Mobotropolis, safe from the purge due to him having originally been introduced as a character in the SatAM cartoon.
Tumblr media
But he quickly ran away with his tail between his legs and didn’t return for quite awhile. Team Freedom and Team Fighters were dropped in favour of bringing back the Freedom Fighters, who had been scattered across the planet so that they could be reintroduced one by one.
Tumblr media
Rotor had gotten buff and was busy building the team’s new mobile flying base, the Sky Patrol.
Tumblr media
Antoine was no longer in a coma and had been assigned guard duty of “Uncle” Chuck, who was now no longer Sonic’s literal uncle but more of a “uncle to all.” I believe that was one of the dreaded SEGA “mandates,” as the Sonic cast were no longer allowed to have relatives (except for Cream, of course). I hated that, but at least Uncle Chuck survived the purge. As did Sonic's former pet dog Muttski, who had undergone what was probably the most dramatic change.
Tumblr media
Same, Sonic and Tails. Same.
Tumblr media
Bunnie was undercover among the Egg Army, and had gone back to being a cyborg.
Tumblr media
And Sally was no longer a robot, and was infiltrating the Death Egg but had to leave in a hurry when Eggman sent Metal Sonic after her. Within a few issues the team were all reunited, along with Big and Cream, just as everything went to Hell. Remember how I said that Eggman broke reality?
Tumblr media
Yeaaaaaaaah. This led into a massive adaptation of Sonic Unleashed, which went on for almost the entirety of the rest of the series. This was a pretty brilliant idea in my opinion, as a game that was so heavily focused on travelling the shattered planet was the perfect way to re-introduce Sonic’s new world. We got to visit a variety of different locations and meet friends and enemies both familiar and new. Mighty, Ray, Lupe and Dulcy all returned with new looks and backstories, as did the former Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad and most surprising of all, Breezie. And a bunch of new characters quickly became fan favourites, such as the pronghorn sisters Cassia and Clove, the underwater mobians Coral, Pearly and Razor, and Shadow's new dark nemesis, Eclipse.
The reboot era of ArchieSonic lasted for over three years, but eventually it came to an abrupt end when SEGA pulled the plug. This leaves the last two (completed) arcs in post-reboot ArchieSonic for me to talk about: Terror in the Skies, the end of the Sonic Unleashed adaptation in the main book, and The Case of the Pirate Princess, a Chaotix arc that ended Sonic Universe. Even though it came after the Unleashed adapation ended, I'm going to be talking about the Chaotix arc first. Terror in the Skies feels like the best way to end this series. However I will be taking a bit of a hiatus, as I’m currently preparing to move overseas. So please be patient and wish me luck, and I'll be back with these three goobers before you know it!

Please write more of Elias and his bride! The first fic was so so so so good!!!! 🤧 please and thank you
Ahhh, thank you so much! Don't worry, even though Elias only got 2nd place in the poll, I do intend to write about him and his bride again sometime soon. In fact, I've started coming up with ideas for my version of the MC. I even played around in picrew to come up with a basic design for his bride until I can draw again.

Meet Coraline King, also known as Cora or "that creepy ghost girl." She comes from a big family with a lot of siblings, and is the third eldest child. She's had a hard time of it with a lot of health problems that have given her more than a few close calls. Her brushes with death have given her a tendency towards gallows humor in an attempt to not let her fragile mortality crush her spirits. She's also interested in ghosts and the occult.
Though she spent most of her life homeschooled due to her health, once she was old enough, she started taking a couple classes at the local community college. When she found out about the college's ghost hunters club, she thought it would be an opportunity to make friends with an interest in the paranormal like her and maybe lift her spirits a bit.
Unfortunately, while the club might have claimed to be searching for the paranormal, the members mostly used it as an excuse to make scary prank videos, especially on the newbies as a form of hazing. Coraline, being pretty sheltered, falls for their lure and is the victim of a prank they stage at the old Gallagher Mansion, which is rumored to be pretty haunted.
It probably wouldn't have been so bad if she actually got scared by the noises and fake "ghosts" they tried to terrorize her with, but when Coraline was only excited by the prospect instead of scared, the pranksters felt compelled to push things too far in order to get the reaction they wanted.
The end result was Cora getting covered in stage blood, her possessions scattered about the mansion, and her precious necklace given to her by her mother lost. The necklace isn't expensive or anything, but it's irreplaceable! Them laughing at her panic and calling it a joke certainly didn't help things.
It probably would've been a totally miserable day if suddenly the ghost club didn't just get what they were supposedly looking for - a ghost. Specifically, a ghost covered in blood with a detached head who was very affronted by such ruffians terrorizing someone in his home, particularly someone who said such nice things about his objectively creepy home while exploring it.
After the club was scared off and ditch Coraline, leaving her all alone in the house, the ghost of the hour, Elias Gallagher helped comfort her and found her precious necklace for her. He was amazed by not only how calm she was at meeting him, but even excited. She was amazed by him existing and asked all sorts of questions. The attention was actually pretty flattering, he had to admit.
Elias is shocked to find out that Coraline was there specifically to find him, the ghost of the tragic groom searching for love. She's so sweet, and he can't help but be dazzled by her even though he just met her. Surely it must be fate. She must be here to be his new bride, his true bride, so of course he asks her to marry him.
Despite his conviction that they must be soulmates, Elias is actually pretty shocked that Coraline agrees with him and accepts his proposal.
Creepy gothic romance and wacky hijinx with a side of spice ensue!
That's the idea for the set up that I've got so far anyway. It'll probably change when the game comes out and as I develop Coraline as a character more. I hope you enjoyed it anyway~!

Listening to TMA for the first time (Part VII)
Part I II III IV V VI
81-100
#81 A Guest for Mr. Spider: Ok, that was an interesting way to begin the season for sure. I do like the narrative that John has always been surrounded by these Entities, just out of reach until one day he won't be. Barely managing to get away time after time until he fulfills his purpose I guess? Anyway, good to know that Leitner books can take anyone away as long as they are able to read, no age requirement necessary. And I'm sorry John but I didn't doubt for a second that you were an annoying child
#82 The Eyewitnesses: Damn no wonder she doesnt go around sharing the origin of her nickname. It's so interesting to get to see more of Elias, up until now he's been just kinda doing his own thing, not really helping anyone too much. He can arrange for the CO2 cans but not security cameras, just decides to give John the key to the tunnels, only intervenes with the others when tension is too high. Is he like a manifestation of the Eye? He can tell your life story from a glance or at least when youve encountered the supernatural, knows everything about the Institute and its employees, and I'm sure will have something to do with John coming back to the archives. Weird guy. Also maybe he was the one to turn on the recorder? Or is it just sentient?
#83 Drawing a Blank: Ah ok so if I understand them the Stranger is anything that isnt quite human, just a bit off, just a bit uncanny. But is it enough that they are uncanny or do they need to take the place of someone? Or are those two different things/beings? Also may I just mention how nice of Georgie to let John stay at her house, and how gratefull they should be that John never takes about his other connections? friends??
#84 Possesive: Oh really can't trust Elias even a little bit anymore can we? Poor Martin with no way of knowing what he might do to anyone can't even warn Melanie properly. Hope we get to hear when Tim finds out and they should also really read her in on what they've gathered so far. I like her and wanted to see more of her, but not like this. Although I have to saw I'm not actually surprised, it felt like it was building up to it, maybe cause she was in the Institute so much it claimed her? Oh and what is that "to whoever is listening"? If they're just records then it's not completely unusual that who reads them switches, why the need to point it out? narrative reasons maybe but feels a bit obvious.
#85 Upon the Stairs: I think all of the possibly perspectives to look at the statements John has recieved are valid. Michael is dangerous. Many were once people but can't go back in a sense. And I'm sure they are sent by someone in the Archives, like Elias maybe? Love that John can interact like "normal" people with someone, can make a joke about a guy your friend is gonna date.
#86 Tucked In: I find it quite funny that both Martin and Tim are not confortable making statements for whatever reason, maybe because it's something only The Archivist does or just the general situation. This does go with my headcannon that John can give it that extra emphasis and feeling because he's the Head Archivist, kinda like Elias in a way. Although Melanie was quite good, love how she's still hesitant to believe the whole thing. And nice of her to agree to meet John, and of course he's paranoid enough to record just out in the world.
#87 The Uncanny Valley: wow, that was a dense episode. So this poor man encountered the operation by which these things wear human faces (like the mannequin at the store, the humans stuffed with saw dust, maybe even changelings), which is run by I Do Not Know You. They want to carry out the Unknowing, in collaboration with the Lightless Flame. Those are th ones seen with Agnes who could burn things and maybe the delivery guys??? The woman that had accompanied Agnes more closely is Jude Perry. Still a ton of questions: is the Devastion and the Unkowing the same? Have we encountered Jude Perry in a statement before? Who is Orsinov and is he related to the circus? Why is the circus now stalking John? And can someone please give Georgie and explanation and a medal for being such a good friend.
#88 Dig: Damn so it's the same calliope, how did they get a hold of it? Was it Elias? Did the Eye just kinda facilitated it to the circus? Also love how unsettled they all seem when they finish reading statements, nvm just John, the institute just kinda gives them the ability to really tell it how it is. I'm guessing Melanie was asking around because she's helping John. Weird that they don't remember the statement about the calliope, maybe they really just do some research but don't really read the statements.
#89 Twice as Bright: that was so cool!!! finally an insight into the Lightless Flame, kind how that lot feels, a bit of how the Eye also works. Also interesting how Perry says that it will consume you if you don't feed it. So maybe Gertrude investigating into things fed it and she was only killed because Elias deemed it so. So maybe John having like something to investigate is making him more stable??? And nice to know that John has an actual ability, weird as it may be. But also is there gonna be anything left of him by the end??? Scars from worms, burnt hand, what's next?
#90 Body Builder: I'm still wondering (maybe I'm slow on picking it up) is the tape just pressing itself whenever someone enters the room???
#91 The Coming Storm: web imagery but that's not the main thing obviously. Good to see John finally starting to learn what he can do, but still not enough John. So Daisy just goes around trying to kill the manifestation of entities? And hoefully that's not the last of Mike we see, it was nice to see how he operates. And would that work? Sure John is the Archivist but Elias is still part of the Institute, the Eye, who could triumph over the other? Or maybe just a stillmate? omg only when i listened to the next did I really understand that John was strangled, he's really just gonna be scars by the end of this.
#92 Nothing besides remains: well thanks Elias I guess for explaining most of those things. So Daisy will remain basically hired muscle for when Elias wants to, Basira is now tied to the Institute, indeed Elias has near unlimited power for aything pertaining the Eye but needs things to naturally develope so it doesn't interfere (or something??? so that it goes with the nature of the Eye i guess), John is back to work and will continue to slowly investigate more on this Unknowing ritual to stop the world from ending basically. What a good buildup to all of this it was, still hoping we'll see more of Michael, sure Elias doesn't like him but more because its a loose canon.
#93 Contaminant: well don't just leave it at that Georgie, give John a statement. Was she one of its victims?? Also I really hope that John manages to keep a nice normal friend outside the Archives, though I'm not hopeful. At least I hope nothing happens to the Admiral.
#94 Dead Woman Walking: I knew I would eat my words about Georgie being normal as soon as the last episode ended but still, damn. Well at least she's still alive and can maybe understand John so there's that. And yes John they have already told you that it still takes some effort, both Mike and Elias said that i believe, at least Elias, you're the Archivist now learn to listen and process.
#95 Absent Without Leave: Poor Martin, can't even have a breakdown in peace, but yeah it sounds like Basira that she would just stroll along, that's been her life since she's been sanctioned anyway.
#96 Return to Sender: Good to know that John still has a ways to go before he really gets how to compel. So he still needs to learn what to ask, how to ask and that his questions can give them as many answers as he gets. So now the Mimic thing knows that the Skin is loose somewhere or at least that the Archivist doesn't know where it is.
#97 We All Ignore the Pit: not a big surprise, but nice to know that the things that are mimics are the same at the circus. Weird to want that skin but okay to each their own. I just hope Orsinov didn't use Georgie's or the Adminal's voice box. Again John really is the punching bag of the entities
#98 Lights Out: oh Melanie, please be careful, i really like you. Hope John can come back soon so that poor Martin can stop reading statements, it kinda takes even more out of him than it usually does John. Good to know the Eye just kinda records whenever it can and wnats to. I understand how frustrating it must be Tim but it still recorded a conversation, get used to it.
#99 Dust to Dust: I think I'm starting to understand the running joke of "you look away for a second and John has been kidnapped again". Well that doesn't sound good for him, wonder if anyone will notice him or what they'll do to him. Give him a break you things, hes basically new to the whole thing, even Perry said it took her a while to understand.
#100 I Guess You Had To Be There: so you can really tell when John doesn't show up at work I guess. So which Lukas is that? Is that the fincé? Or the one at sea? Or maybe they're the same, I'll be honest I have difficulty retaining the names. Even if they were all over the place the stories do bear resemblance to known entities: Agnes, the thing about the tunnels and the spider thing.

Name: Elias Kahtri Species: Human (Non-powered) Occupation: Biomedical Engineer Age: 35 Years Old Played By: Caitlyn Face Claim: Rahul Kohli
"Have a little fun before you die."
Growing up, Elias was the weird kid. Instead of playing sports with the other kids on the block, he was setting up a Dungeons and Dragons campaign for himself and his three friends who shared his interest. While most kids his age went outside to play, he was busy inside reading his battered copy of Lord of the Rings with his father for the third time in a year. He loved everything to do with fantasy and his beloved super NES system, where he spent countless hours playing Super Mario games.
As he grew older, his love for all things fantasy never faded. If anything, his love for his favorite hobbies grew stronger. As a teenager, he discovered the cryptid scene, learning about the legends of Bigfoot and Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and the Chupacabra. Everything about it fascinated him and began his love of all things cryptid. He joined the local cryptid club in his hometown, always being the first to volunteer for the annual Bigfoot excursion. When he was fifteen, he attended his first Comicon convention, dressing up as the Eye of Sauron, having to pay a hefty sum to his friend for dressing up as Sauron to go with it. This sparked a passion for starting cosplay.
As the years passed, his favorite hobbies took a back seat as the pressure to succeed in school grew. With his parents wanting the best for their son, they expected him to go into a reputable field when going to college, which for him came faster than he wanted. So, he threw himself into his studies, making the honor roll and valedictorian of his class when he graduated high school. It was a big deal for Elias and his family when he was accepted into Yale. For him, it was more of a joke that he’d apply. Sure, he had the grades and the extracurriculars to have a shot, but it was one of those things you did as a joke on the off chance he actually got in, which ended up being the case. He was good at school, and he put his all into his studies, and graduated with a degree in biomedical engineering. He was good at his job and had started on a project that everyone around him knew would skyrocket him into fame within the medical technology field. But he didn’t want it. Instead, he fled. Instead of working hard to continue his craft, he packed up and moved across the country to Wicked's Rest in the dead of night.
Once in Wicked’s Rest, he learned not all was as it seemed, and he got too curious for his own good. He asked too many questions and got too close to too many secrets. Working at a fae bar turned out to be a bad idea. After witnessing a death, he learned that the costumes these people were wearing weren’t costumes but their true appearance. Going from one extreme to another turned out to be a bad idea for Elias, who, in turn, once again took off in the dead of night without a word to anyone whom he had come to know as a friend and returned to his old life.
Once he was back in California, he first sought extensive psychiatric evaluation for his sudden belief in faeries. After all, there was no way they could be real. After feeling stable enough to continue his old life, Elias returned to his old job. He completed his cybernetic prosthesis, an exoskeleton that could help people with nerve damage move their limbs again. It was a breakthrough in the community, and he suddenly found himself flooded with interviews and job opportunities worldwide. He was famous, something he never wanted for himself. Something that scared him. Then, his assistant gave him an opportunity almost too good to be true: the chance to move back to Wicked’s Rest and let the two worlds collide.
Now terrified of facing the people and things he had experienced in Wicked’s Rest, Elias has returned after seeking an opportunity to work at the local hospital to continue his research with his cybernetic prosthesis that has managed to have heads turn in his direction. And if he continues to look into the world of creatures that had once destroyed his life, what’s the worst that could happen?
Character Facts:
Personality: Witty, sociable, rational, playful, patient, gullible, disorganized, naïve, absentminded, blunt
Elias is a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, he always has a quote or random fact about the movies ready for anyone who has the pleasure of being at the receiving end.
Elias is huge into the cosplay scene and makes all his costumes from scratch. His favorite is his cosplay of Gandalf the Grey.
Elias has long been interested in the cryptid scene. Bigfoot? He tried finding him. Mothman? He’s in the fanclub. You name it, he’s heard of it. Probably.
Elias may be well-known in the scientific community, but that doesn’t mean he’s very happy about it. When he’s recognized, he does his best to avoid interaction instead of being friendly.
What is a long-term goal you have for this character? (We know this can change over time):
After learning that there were things that defied logic, Elias decided that he needed extensive therapy and went into deep denial of the idea that faeries existed. Instead, he's very keen to keep his head down and focus on his job and stay away from anything that has to do with supernatural anything. It terrifies him as much as it makes him curious. His arc will be him riding a fine line between the truth and staying away from it as much as possible for his own sanity.
