As your resident Finn and in light of Berlusconi's death, I have to tell the English side of tumblr the story of Berlusconi pizza, a tale of shittalking and pettiness.
In the early 2000's (I can't find an exact) the European Food Safety Authority made a competition on who has the best food in Europe. Italy won that competition and Berlusconi (sore winner) said that Finnish food is bad (not super incorrect, but come on, dude, you already won).
Then in 2008, The America's Plate International Pizza Competition rewards Finland for having the best pizza in the world. The pizza had smoked reindeer, tomato, cheese, red onion and Finnish chantarelles. Kotipizza, a Finnish pizza restaurant chain, named the pizza Berlusconi, after the politician. Italian media called it "blood revenge".
The pizza is still being sold and in the year 2022 it was ordered about 150 000 times. Its name was changed to "Poro" (the Finnish word for "reindeer") in May 2023 to make it more clear, easy to remember to the Finnish audience and to fit with the naming convention of the restaurant.

Evil Malware
Welcome back to another episode of An Actual Post. As usual, no prior computer science education needed. Today I'm going to talk about the worst of the worst malware. A lot of things has happened since what the general population consider to be viruses; annoying and maybe steals some money or logins. Unfortunately it's nowadays way way way worse than that so prepare for some uncomfortable reading!
Since the dawn of Stuxnet (which I wrote about here), malware has gotten increasingly more real-life, with real-life complications. It could be the Pegasus spyware, that targets political activists in authoritarian regimes, or disruptive infections that put a stop to Copenhagens metro trains for a few hours. But we're merely in the beginning, because in the last few years, some nasty shit has been going down. I'm going to write about two (technically three but I'll group the first two together for obvious reasons) of the worst incidents we've seen today.
BlackEnergy and CrashOverride
This piece of malware has been around since early 2000's, for the intention of creating DDoS attacks (which I wrote about here) from infected computers. It has since then branched out in its usage, particularly into targeting infrastructure environments. Most notable is the 2015 Ukrainian powergrid incident, which occured when the Russian hacking group known as "Sandworm", infected three Ukrainian energy companies, wiping out systems and causing a power outage for over 250 000 households during winter. The attack began with just one infected document being opened in the affected companies. When BlackEnergy infected their systems, it opened up a remote connection to the attackers, making them able to control the entire powergrid opreation from inside Russia, and thereby switching it off.
That was not enough though, as the attackers also implanted another piece of malicious software known as KillDisk, which wiped out many of the ciritical operation systems, as well as cutting off the connection to the UPS units, which are backup generators in case of system outage. To add a cherry on top, BlackEnergy did what it was originally intended to do - DDoS attacks - towards the energy companies call-centers, so that customers were not able to call and ask what was happening.
The Ukrainian powergrid is quite outdated, which made the attack easier, but it was also the saving grace, as they still had manual power-switches (as opposed to purely digital, which were under the attackers control), so power was eventually restored before they had to rebuild all of their digital systems. This is more concerning for countries with modern powergrids, as manual switches have all been replaced by only digital, meaning power restoration could take weeks or months in case of a similar attack.
Besides the energy companies, three other critical Ukrainian infrastructure organisations were hit by BlackEnergy, but did not result in any operational outages.
But it didn't stop there. Just one year later, in December 2016, a similar attack struck Kiev, successfully taking down one-fifth of the countrys electrical power. Like with the BlackEnergy incident, it was quite quickly restored, but there was a far more horrifying infection this time. Named CrashOverride, the malware was much more sophisticated than BlackEnergy, did more things automatically without the need of input from a remote attacker. It was also modular, meaning that functionalities could just be added to it like lego-pieces, adapting it to whatever kind of electrical grid it was entering. This meant that it wouldn't just be able to infect only Ukranian electrical grids, but just about any country's. Furthermore, evidence points to the 2016 CrashOverride infection only being a test-run.
Triton
Last but definitely not least - Triton, the first (known) malware designed to kill.
But before we talk about it, we need to look at what happened in Bhopal, India in 1984 when what has since been considered the worst industrial disaster of all time occured. At the Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant in December 2nd, one of the gas tanks had a fatal malfunction, creating a massive gas leak of methyl isocyanate, which is extremely toxic. The leak spread to the surrounding city of Bhopal, resulting in almost 600 000 injured people, 40 000 temporary injuries, 4 000 permanent or severe injuries and over 8 000 people died within the first two weeks, with an estimated additional 8 000 deaths following due to injuries in the time after.
This was of course not caused by Triton, but it became the inspiration for the creation of the malware In 2017, a new piece of malware was discovered in Schneider Electrics industrial control system (called Triconex) at a Saudi Arabian petrochemical facility, which unravelled a horrible and complex secret. The infection chain for Triton contains many steps, so let's start with a brief overview of what the Triconex ICS and SIS is. ICS (Industrial Control System) are computers that handles all the industrial processes, computers that are programmed to do one thing and one specific thing only, unlike our regular PCs which you can play games or surf the internet and whatever. ICS will be computers who control valves, releases chemicals into vats, spins stuff around, or whatever automated processes may happen at an industrial facility.
SIS (Safety Instrumented System) are a kind of ICS that are responsible to check that everything is going alright and, if needed, will take over the process in case some ICS is failing and may result in damage, fire, injury or other disasters. So a SIS are monitoring failsafes, meant to prevent what happened in Bhopal.
Unless, of course, you program a malware intended to make the SIS malfunction.
What happened in the Saudi Arabian petrochemical facility started as follows:
The attackers successfully implanted a remote access trojan, which just like in the BlackEnergy case, makes the attackers able to control infected machines remotely. However, you can't infect a ICS or SIS this way, you need to enter a regular computer with internet access first, which is what they did. The initial machine was an engineering station, on which ICS and SIS computers are controlled. From there, the attackers wanted to plant their own software on the ICS and SIS machines, but there was a problem; the software can't be installed without someone turning a physical key on the Triconex devices, as a security measure. A second problem is that every time new software changes are made to a Triconex device, the old software will be deleted and replaced entirely by the new, which meant that the malware was at risk of being deleted if any engineer made any software changes.
So a second piece of Triton malware was made to overcome those hurdles. Instead of being save where the software should be saved in the Triconex devices, it saved itself where the firmware was installed (the piece of software that's made to have the Triconex work as opposed to where the software that tells the Triconex what to do), this not only gave Triton persistence even if new software was loaded, but also overrides the physical key as firmware always has administrator privileges. With all this in place, the attacker could execute any commands at the comfort of their home to both the ICS and SIS systems in the facility.
As luck would have it, before the attackers were able to cause any harm, the facility experienced a safety incident, prompting shutdown of the whole operation, and an investigation later uncovered the malware in the systems. Had Triton not been discovered in time, it would have been able to cause catastrophic failures similar to what happened in Bhopal. But just because it was thwarted this time, doesn't mean it's gone for good. There will always be some actor who is willing to try again.
Thank you for reading and sorry if I scared you, but honestly I think people need to be aware of the situation, as for some bisarre reason, events like these are not reported in the news. If you have any questions, feel free to send an ask!

Pandemics do not end with a flip of a switch. Despite the widespread belief that the pandemic is over, death and disruption continue. As Americans embrace what McKinsey and Company has called “individual endemicity”—in which people let their risk tolerance dictate the preventive measures they take—transmission rates remain at dangerous levels in nearly every county of the US. Throughout the summer, the US recorded approximately 3,000 deaths per week, at least the equivalent of a 9/11’s worth of deaths each week, and often more. The delta and omicron surges took 350 000 American lives in seven months, almost seven times as many fatalities as claimed by the most severe flu season in years. In early September 2022, covid-19 was the second leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more lives than stroke and common cancers.
It’s time to redouble and refocus our efforts to fight covid, not retreat

Hazbin Hotel thoughts : Foils 4
(Foils 1 here)
(Foils 2 here)
(Foils 3 here)
Masterpost here.
(Or the one where I'm starting to think I'm not really creative with title names.)
Anyway, I'm on a roll (seriously, what's happening. Motivation is perking up from its deep slumber. Didn't happened since last October. Is it a full blue moon tonight or...?) and I did say I was gonna talk about Lucifer and Sera, so here goes.
Lucifer VS Sera, and for good measure Charlie VS Emily. Both Lucifer and Sera come from Heaven (revelation of the century, wow, I know - oh lookit dat, my sarcasm is awake early today), happen to both be Seraphim (with Lucifer as one of the most powerful and Sera having been involved in the creation of Earth apparently, if Ep 1's intro is to be believed) and a parental figure to their younger charge : Lucifer is Charlie's literal dad and Sera is a mentor motherly figure to Emily. They also both want to protect the ones they love, but go about it in different ways : Lucifer made a deal that no hellborn demons are hurt during the yearly Exterminations, while Sera enforces Heaven's flawed system to keep the heaven-bound souls and Emily joyful and safe. However, hurt Charlie and Lucifer will come down on you like a meteor, despite having spent time estranged from his own daughter, while Sera keeps Emily out of the loop despite always being with her (they are no on-screen scenes of Emily alone up to now, even if at one point Sera did separate to talk to Adam, which means that Emily was showing Vaggie and Charlie around on her own, off-screen).
This is fairly interesting to see that while Lucifer - due to depression, growing cynism (10 000 years at least of waking up each morning and being met first thing looking out of the window by Hell's cesspool of sin and violence - the reminder of his broken dreams and awful unforeseen consequences of his well-meaning gift of free will) and plain just life going sideways with his wife missing for 7 years and his daughter going down the same road as him, also unintentionally hurting Charlie by not supporting her dreams (at first) - is not much involved in Charlie's life but still wanting to reconnect with her and is ecstatic when he has the chance to ("My daughter wants to see meeee !"), Sera is always present in Emily's life, working together with her ("It's my position as the Head Seraphim to protect our people at all costs ! And it's your position to keep them happy and joyful") in tandem : one takes care of the technical side, the other of the emotional side of things. Bread and circuses (funnily enough, Lucifer and the other Sins have a circus theme going on) - yet she's more distant and disconnected from Emily, keeping her (and the majority of Heaven) in the dark and using her position to uphold the status quo over what Emily wants or feels. Lucifer, while reluctant at first, actually agrees to help Charlie the way Charlie would like it to go, and is there to pick her up when things go south, fully supporting her once he comes around (More Than Anything and Finale).
Sera and Lucifer are also kind of two sides of the same coin : the latter is a known dreamer, extremely creative and open-minded, which blew up in his face when he changed things, unintentionally made shit hit the fan and got casted down to Hell for it. Sera on her side upholds the rules, doesn't dare to question the system, strives to not change a thing even if she seems to deeply regret how it's done, and lives in constant fear of her or her loved ones suffering Lucifer's fate. At the point of the first season, both are motivated by the same thing : fear, especially of losing or seeing their loved ones hurt, and especially this exact thing happening to their daughter figure - a very relatable thing. Yet Lucifer, after some prodding, chooses to fully stand by his daughter's side (and what's more, she (unknowingly) succeeds !) while Sera feels forced to squash Emily's hopes with the intention to spare her anguish and pain. At the end of Ep 6, both have disappointed their daughter figure at least once, but Lucifer did it in the past and strives to get better, while Sera is currently doing it and worsening things (in Ep 8, she's probably keeping Emily from intervening in any form about the Extermination). Lucifer, the fallen angel, dares to go where Sera, the high seraphim, would not, overcoming a fear Sera still can't shake off.
Quick aside, they make a nice foils triangle with Carmilla : Sera on one side as an angel not changing the status quo even if it's flawed and even if it brings her anguish and she has to put her daughter figure's feelings down for it, Carmilla on the other side as a demon who broke the rules by defeating the undefeatable to protect her daughters no matter what and helping out indirectly, and Lucifer in the middle as a fallen angel that has tried but given up, ending up doing a pendulum swing from one side to another, both with his own daughter in mind too - first not supporting her dream to avoid her getting crushed, then saying 'screw it let's do it' and standing by her side no matter what. Probably not intentional, but the fact that he starts with his more angelic form (ep 5) like Sera and ends up in his more demonic form (ep 8) like Carmilla when at peak protectiveness is smile-inducing to observe.
Charlie, Emily, Odette and Clara really should organize a tea party sometime.
Which brings us to Charlie VS Emily. Not gonna lie, they're a lot alike (the sun also rose today, also, breaking news : water is wet), idealistic, optimists, two piles of sugar sweetness in the shape of a young woman (chronological age notwithstanding) with a certain naïveté to them - basically, they're each other's counterpart in their respective realms of Heaven and Hell, as high-ranked figures in charge of seemingly less important stuff that actually have their weight : Charlie is the Princess of Hell and founder of the Hotel, wanting to repent Sinners, while Emily is a seraphim in charge of making citizens in Heaven happy. Both strive to bring joy and kindness to their own people and fully believe in their cause, so it's no wonder that they immediately click very well together. In Welcome To Heaven (both the song and episode), Emily is absolutely gleeful in meeting both Charlie and Vaggie, can't wait to show them around, and openly welcoming no strings attached (which contrasts Sera's tempering : "You're gifted to be here", and "of course it's just temporary, I'm sorry you can't stay" - she's quick to remind everyone that it's not where the two demons belong).
However Emily looks like a Charlie that's still sheltered. To be fair, while Charlie is, in some measure, still naive about her own world (though not naive enough to think every Sinner wants redemption), with not-really-thought-through plans (Puppy dog kisses and puffy-wuffy clouds, anyone ?), has grown up under the protection and love of her parents, and is ready to Fluttershit the shy (yes, you read that right) out of everyone who comes knocking, she's still out there working for it (even during Exterminations, as seen when she found Vaggie), knowing it'll be a hard road and that she's going to get rebuked a lot. She's also more or less on her own, at least since 7 years, estranged from her parents and managing the Hotel alone (later with the help of her girlfriend since 3 years). Emily on her side, from her own point of view, lives in a world where nothing is wrong (as far as she knows), has been kept away from what's really going on (though no fault of her own) and is always around her mentor, having the task of keeping people happy. The moment the truth is out, her world shatters ("What are you saying, let me get this straight - you go down there and kill those poor souls ?!") and the pedestal her mentor figure was on, in her eyes, completely falls apart. However, just like Charlie, she shows inner strength and maturity, immediately calling out and condemning said actions, showing that she's not a child to coddle - just like Charlie who is capable of showing a more competent and dangerous side. They also have both less human forms (Charlie's demon form, Emily's seraphim form) that partially pop up when they become emotional or agitated (the horns and eyes for Charlie, the halo and torso eyes for Emily).
Where Charlie rekindles her bond with her father, realizing how much alike they are and at one point having believed in the same dream before also rekindling said belief, Emily on her side ends her episode realizing how different she is from Sera, who fed her beliefs and morals she herself doesn't hold - and rightfully calls her out on the hypocrisy, because just like Charlie, who's out during Exterminations to help her own people, she's willing to risk herself (falling) for what she believes is right, fair and just. Is it any wonder why the joined duet of Charlie and Emily is such a cathartic banger ? Everyone together now !
If Hell is forever then Heaven must be a lie !
If angels can do whatever and remain in the sky !
The rules are shades of gray, when you don't do as you say,
When you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again !
As a side note, I also wanted to talk about the representation of Heaven itself : I was awaiting the classic "everyone looks like humans with wings, back to how they looked like on Earth for the Winners, with some form of uniformization", just like St-Peter basically. But the show did me one better : Heaven is just as diverse as Hell - there are animals, anthros, monster-like people, some have still object-heads and item-like bodies, just with a vaguely gold-and-white aesthetic and some angel wings. There are things that crawl, fly, twist, people with multiple eyes and limbs, fangs, gills, scales and fur, just like Hell. The only ones uniformized (and looking like flat-out classic demons) are the Exorcists - and those are the fanatics hellbent on carnage and suffering. When Sir Pentious ascends, he's still a snake, just with a more angelic-like design. Take Molly's wings out and put her in Hell, or stick them to Angel Dust and put him in Heaven, and you won't see the difference. Heaven dips just as much on the "monster, abomination, humanly incomprehensible" side as Hell, and just like Hell, not everyone is a jerk (even if not everyone is nice either. Right, Adam ?) : Emily is genuinely kind and open-minded, St-Peter is accomodating, and despite agreeing to actions that bring the misery to thousands of people, Sera is sincerely compassionate and regretful of her decisions (even if she believes them necessary - funny, since she was the one to call Charlie "misguided" earlier).
Again, it's a spectrum. There's no real box to fit people in, simply because here, Heaven and Hell are just like us humans : flawed. They have the big lines down, but the edges are blurry, and a lot of people fall through the cracks. They're like two districts of the same city, each on the opposite side of the road. Once more, people being people.
Again, Masterpost here.

You know what I find the most realistically sad thing about this?
This happened year earlier this year in universe, maybe just a few months if not less.
And people are already claiming it's a hoax. Like... The alien invasions probably killed tens if not hundreds of thousands of people(At least one skyscraper was ripped from it's foundation and must have toppled not too long after that, possibly killing up to 20 000 people all on it's own depending on whether the majority of people in it decided to hunker down or flee. And that's not counting the people it crushed beneath it.).
The sheer amount of destruction would also cost billions and billions of dollars to fix, and given Los Angeles isn't doing so hot in the real world at the equivalent point in time, it is fully possible this served as a complete death knell to the entire city, essentially meaning it never reached it's former glory.
It would be for 2020's amphibia umiverse, what 9/11 was for early 2000's america. An incredible and devastating tragedy that cost a horrible number of lives.
And already as early as that very year Americans were already calling it a hoax on national television, essentially telling every single person who lost their homes, their job, or family in the invasion, that they are liars who are part of a government conspiracy.
Can you imagine that? Like imagine telling someone, "My entire family died in the alien invasion", and the guy you're talking to goes, "oh yeah, suuure they did buddy.". Thats pretty much what happening here.
And The fact that i find it completely believable of modern USA, is probably the absolute worst part.

Would you rather cross The Wall into the west with Sven Kruspe or cross the ocean into New York with Richard Zee Kay?
Hello 👋
First of all, thank you anon(s) for sending me these interesting/unhinged/sometimes really hard to decide-comparisons, a format I never expected in my inbox but which I welcome with open arms 😌
For this case, we have a young Sven in the end of the 1980's and a Richard in his 30s in the beginning of the 2000's:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Normally, I would look at this in an humouristic way, but I think this time, given the topic, I'm choosing a more serious approach. Firstly because both times Richard practically fled something/tried to get away from something and in one instance really endangered his own life and secondly because I have experiences in my family with crossing the Wall from the GDR into the BRD and find it hard to joke about. My grandfather practically was forced to flee quite early on since he was caught listening to western radio (that's why the song "Radio" holds a very deep meaning to me) and another relative of mine fled the GDR in the 1980's. Both instances seemed to have been quite risky and resulted in numerous consequences.
Richard, back then maybe still Sven, must've felt so vulnerable, unsafe and even more disillusioned than he already was after he was imprisoned by the Stasi for several days and then decided to leave. It's not an easy made decision to attempt an escape across the Wall. The Stasi back then persecuted not only refugees directly at the border while they tried to flee, they even persecuted the ones which planned an escape or tried to help others escape. Only the suspicion by the Stasi was sufficient to observe these people day and night.
Over 300 people died directly at the Wall and over 71 000 people were sentenced for "Republikflucht", for the crime of trying to leave the country [source]. So Richard back then put himself at risk for 1. planning his escape and 2. going through with it and 3. risking consequences back home, since sometimes even the families of the ones who left were observed even closer by the Stasi if the attempt was successful. So I'm really glad that everything worked out for him despite it being a surely very stressful time, plus it being timewise so close to the fall of the Wall.
Richard leaving for New York after the Mutter disaster was also an "escape" but with a different motivation and clearly different circumstances. It was more "official" so to speak, he needed to get away from Berlin (which he viewed as destructive and as a "drug city") and needed to put some distance between him and the rest of the band. Plus, he saw New York as a chance for him to stay artistically challenged since he viewed New York as "the worlds biggest drama". So I see this escape to New York as a more voluntary decision for him to get new experiences and impression, in contrast to the escape from the GDR, which was a breakout from an authoritarian regime to hopefully find a life more worth living on the other side.
So all in all, it surely would've been more comfortable to accompany Richard to the US if I'm being totally honest here 👀

Daryl calling Laurent creepy seems OOC (except for s1 Daryl) but Daryl was already very cold towards Henry and probably thought he was useless or at least he didnt want to have anything with him. He only cared because he was Carol's kid.
He barely shared any scenes with Carl and when he said " i would have died for him" ir was, to me, only becaise it was Rick's kid. In that regard, he would have died for Henry too.
The only kids he really cares about are are Judith and RJ because he actually had time to have a growing bond with them.
Even Sophia, he only went though hell to find her because he was really, deeply, though unable to admit it at the time, devoted to Carol. If he had time to bond with her, that would have been different (with Carl though, they had 8 seasons, and no excuse : bad writing. Thank God they fixed it with Judith mainly, and RJ).
All this to say that he doesnt have "a thing" for kids, to me. But Laurent is probably gonna change that, and well, Aaron sid say "you re going to be a gread dad one day" or something like that so.. this has to led somewhere, even 10 000 seasons later, right?
I dont think he's gonna find Laurent creepy anymore after a few eps. He s probably gonna care for him a lot. Laurent is mysterious and interesting to me.
And i dont mind anyway, as long as the endgame is Caryl and team family.
Just my two cents of course
Well, I think Daryl was more agitated that he had to look after the kid Carol adopted with another man rather than at Henry's naivety, but yes, he did it for Carol. If we choose to accept deleted scenes as canon, we could say Daryl wasn't very kind to Sophia or Carl at first. I don't think he had the skillset to deal with kids in the early days of the show, but his bond with Carol and with Rick taught him how to bond/ look after their children. Then there's Lydia, who he also wasn't kind to at first, but she was introduced as an antagonist, so that explains that. With Laurent though, Daryl's attitude reads as insensitive to me, and since the kid isn't presenting himself as a threat and he doesn't belong to someone he's had time to form a bond with, I'm just not sure what's prompting it. It feels off.
I'm not saying their relationship won't grow. Of course it will. But we're meant to believe he'll grow so attached to him, he starts to feel torn between his family back home and the new connections he's made. That's what the synopsis suggested, didn't it? That's what gives me pause. Because Daryl is a character known for his loyalty (to TF) and for taking a long time to form meaningful attachments. So I'm very skeptical a bond that deep between Daryl and Laurent can be properly earned in 6 episodes. I expect it to feel forced and I expect it to undermine what makes Daryl Daryl to me and to cheapen the endgame for Caryl and for TF. If the next 5 episodes prove otherwise, I'll gladly take it, but that is my biggest concern at the moment.
Thank you for dropping in your two cents. I appreciate it!

■ Update Schedule
Tumblr media
As our first update, we’ll be releasing an incredibly difficult Quest featuring Lucilius. It is one of the most challenging quests in the game, which means he will take a lot of preparation to take down. This fight is not part of Granblue Fantasy: Relink‘s storyline, of course, but is more of a simulation of the final showdown with Lucilius from 000. The impossible-difficulty Lucilius from mobile Granblue Fantasy has all the elements of a challenging RPG fight. We wanted to take those elements and translate them into Granblue Fantasy: Relink‘s brand of action, all while recreating the animations and badass vibe of the original. I think we were successful in reproducing something action game fanatics will really be able to sink their teeth into. And we are not lying when we say it’s challenging—it’s extremely tough.

top five favorite concepts
Tumblr media
here are his top 5 favs (in no particular order). it's also VERY hard for him to choose, because i think he's like me in that having to limit his favourite concepts to just 5 is an extremely difficult feat.
Hyth finds the oreias's (or spriggan)'s proclivity for hoarding gemstones and misc. shiny objects very relatable, as he too suffers the urge to pocket interesting objects to gift to his friends, or sometimes to keep for himself (yes, he's absolutely the kind of person who would give his friends a cool rock or an interesting leaf, and then proceed to launch a discussion about how interesting its aethetic composition is before launching into the thing's origins based on said aetheric composition, all with childlike glee.) he actually comments on them during the msq and one scuttles by before the leg-having sharp concept pulls up on him. in english his dialogue is "how delightful", and in jp it's something to the effect of "an oreias! how cute!"
abystoma: while hyth's memories of That Particular jaunt in elpis (we must recall that he seems to have special access to teleporters there and i think it's implied that he does take trips there every once in a while, but clearly not often enough for most people there to recognize him.) although his memories of the time were wiped by kairos, i do think he felt a lasting fondness for the concept when he laid eyes on it after the whole kairos fiasco, and he felt strange pangs of familiarity and immense fondness for them, and he would therefore have arrived at the conclusion that although he did not remember it outright, he must have run into these creatures during that time. furthermore, hermes seems to be very familiar with them, and it's outrighted stated that hermes and hyth are friends and collaborate together on a fairly freqeuent basis.
lykopersikon: i don't have much of an explanation for this but i think hyth thought it was extremely funny that someone submitted a weird tomatomonster that pops out of a round pot-like seed thing. he really is like a deviantart group moderator in the early 000s with his ability to adore and appreciate the extremely abstract and just weirdass things that people submit in this vein jghjsdgdh.
elpis flowers: these things remain something of a delightful mystery to him, because they're presumably composed of dynamis(?) they may be either invisible to him in terms of his aethersight (although he can clearly see their corporeal forms; like when he focuses more on their aether, they're probably suuuuuuuper faint and practically invisible, due to them being entelechies, as well as being far simple and presumably requiring less aether than even the likes of meteion.) being as perceptive as he is, he's accustomed to being able to view the aetheric composition of peoples' concepts in detail. he enjoys the flowers not only for their beauty and their ability to change/response to others, but for the simple fact that their existence as something he isn't able to readily see/analyze/understand. it keeps him on his toes and he appreciates this.
lotis: they're weird plantdragon things in elpis. again, the general idea of it kind of reminds me of being smth that might end up in furry/creaturedesign deviantart in the 00's. hyth has a soft spot for for plant and bug concepts especially.
***HONORARY MENTION: cubus, although i don't actually think that cubuses are intentional creations. rather, i've always headcanoned them to be kind of an accidental/unintentional byproduct that sometimes occurs as a result of intense creation magick usage. very small cubuses would sometimes manifest in his and hades's apartment space. hyth would delight in finding tiny cubuses forming in the pipes and attempting to make pets out of them after scraping them out of the drain, much to hades's chargin. the pazillion cubuses roaming around in phantom amaurot were left there deliberately for hythshade to "play" with and have company.
(this is kind of unrelated to the ask maybe idk) but hyth finds people who have merged with concepts to be incredily interesting, and during certain intervals wherein he was feeling particularly down on himself and his percieved lack of prowess, he had instrusive thoughts about applying this to himself before swiftly concluding that in his case, the potential risks far outweigh the benefits.

SPIDER-VERSE SPOILERS!!!
this is too long for Twitter so yay for Tumblr
I was casually reading Cliff Robertson's wikipedia page, found out that he was blacklisted in Hollywood for many years, not because he ever hurt anyone, but because Columbia pictures scammed him off 10 000 dollars, and when he publicly called them out on their bs they made it so that he couldn't get much work for decades.
He would remain active with the ocassional tv show and tv movies but he was in the big screen before this happened (freaking Oscar winning actor guys), and the fact he didn't shut up about it and just took it cost a lot of work. And yet, when the early 2000s saw him in the role of Uncle Ben, and he is still seen by many as the definitive Uncle Ben, it gave him a whole new set of fans and he was able to produce and write new movies off of this fame.
"Since Spider-Man 1 and 2, I seem to have a whole new generation of fans. That in itself is a fine residual."
why do I bring this up? because he passed away back in 2011 (with 2007's Spider-man 3 as his last movie) and yet he is still being credited for his role as Uncle Ben in both "Into the Spider-Verse" (2018) and "Across the Spider-Verse" (2023), truly living on screen beyond his years on Earth thanks to his work that Hollywood tried to stop him from doing.
I just got emotional about it.

One Last Colony The Havana Affair

The term nostalgia describes a yearning for the past, often in idealized form. Back in the Early Modern Period, it was described as a medical condition, a form of melancholy, and became an important trope in Romanticism. In common, less clinical usage, nostalgia sometimes includes a general interest in past eras, personalities and events, particularly when one mentions the “good old days,”
This issue, which we’ve titled One Last Colony, is certainly all about nostalgia. The phrase truly sums up what the exuberant city of Havana, where much of the action in these pages takes place, is all about. At first glance, when landing at night and hitting the dimly lit streets of this infamous city you are simply not aware of all the grandeur that the dawn will reveal. Set in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, only about 160 kilometres away from the United States, Havana is undoubtedly one of the very few jewels left of the Colonial Period. There, Fascist architecture is combined with Art Deco and the most exuberant of the Spanish Colonial Empire meets 1940′s Americana. It has all been untouched since the Cuban revolution in the mid 1950′s as if it was the film set of the most lavish Hollywood production.
This oft-overlooked, somewhat forbidden architectural extravaganza sets the scene for a celebration of music, old American cars running on Russian engines and a perfectly vibrant social landscape that is captured by L.A. based photographer Doug Inglish in our fashion/travel portfolio for Summer 2012.
But One Last Colony doesn’t end in Havana. First, we bring you our favourite collections one by one, exploring them in all their variety and elegances. Then, we take a worldwide tour in which we introduce you to a re-invented Aiden Shaw in our home town of Barcelona, then visit the iconic Madrid-based interior designer Pascua Ortega, catch up with the young jet-setter bag designer Gabrielecorto Moltedo at his home in Florence, and we end up talking to the one and only Kim Jones about his new role at Louis Vuitton in Paris.
With the sound of live salsa, a mojito in hand and the smell of tobacco mixed with a steady Caribbean breeze we are proud to introduce our second journey as Hercules Universal and invite you to our very own colony.
