Midnight Mass spends six episodes weaving a web horror, of faith so blinding it consumes all it touches and a small, isolated community marked by prejudice. The path the characters are on seems inexorable, father Paul’s conviction so strong nothing can make his faith waver, not even murder. And it does come crashing down. it’s too late to stop John Pruitt, too late to save the people of the town from becoming monsters.

but instead of leaving it as wholly a tragedy, instead of rightfully letting them all consume each other and burn up in the aftermath, they do something different. instead, John Pruitt, the man who started it all, who doomed the entire island. doesn't die. he doesn't die, and he doesn't help Bev Keane destroy the entire island. instead, he sits in the church with the woman he loves, and he tells her he did it all for her. and in that scene, he stops being a villain, stops being the monster who doomed the entire town, and you see him for who he really is. soft, human, scared. in over his head, and just trying to protect the people he cares about. And you forgive him for it.

one of the most important scenes in the entire show is when after the chaos, the fire, after the rec centre burns down and they know they’re all doomed, Bev’s right hand man approaches one of the altar boys. simple, and resigned, they tell each other what they’ve done. what faith, what the angel’s blood made them do, and they tell each other: I forgive you.

later, sitting vigil over their daughter that the church never wanted to be born, in the moments before they go up in flame, john asks Mildred: can you forgive me?

Bleeding out in the grass, Erin Greene looks up at the stars, and imagines herself talking to Riley Flynn. she talks about the grass, the stars, her. All of them are one. Matter is just energy, moving slowly. She is not dying, because everything that makes her up, electrons, atoms, all of it, cannot be destroyed. All the galaxies in the universe, every person and living thing, are one. And that is God.

They could have let us hate John Pruitt, could have let us walk away thinking about how easily we can be manipulated when we want to believe, and thinking about how religion blinds people to the truth, no matter how horrific. but I don’t think that was the point. In the end, Bev Keane is the only one alone, desperately trying to escape the fate she had sealed for herself. the only one so blinded by piety that she couldn't see that her actions were monstrous.

The others are singing.

In the end they leave the church, and they gathered together in the middle of their ruined town, and they sing. Mr and Mrs Flynn know what had happened wasn’t God, wasn’t a miracle. They were not blinded by faith, and yet they were the one to start singing, and to start singing a hymn. Nearer, my God, to thee.

The writers of Midnight Mass could have left it a tragedy, but instead they offered an alternative: the rising sun bleeding into the fire engulfing Crockett island, and hundreds of singing voices. atoms, energy, becoming one. Becoming God.

When you play video games do you play as character would make the choices/the closest you could get to their own voice in terms of dialogue options, or do you pick very specific routes for optimal ends? Or specific options with the hopes of impressing the romantic character you are vying for, over ones that might make more sense for your character?

Just curious as I've been playing BG3.

Ok idk if I'm reading too much into it but ever since I saw the line about Ianthe being able shut Kiriona off it has hauntedmy every thought. I will talk about how unbelievably fucked up that is in another post but right now I wanna focus on how it's probably gonna come back into play.

This feels too significant for it to be a one and done situation. Like it's gotta be coming back in Alecto somehow. I can easily see Ianthe getting annoyed by the others getting in her way, trying to stop her, and she just goes "ok watch this," and then just shuts Kiriona down and removes her from play completely. Or hell, knowing her she could just do it for funsies to show off her power and control to the others and try to rattle them.

I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on this. If you think it'll come back in Alecto and how, or why not

Gonna be taking a posting break for a bit, the tanks all need changed up and I don’t feel like taking pictures while I do it.

#it takes me a long time to do things #and I'd don't wanna take pictures of videos until I have all of them changed up #nothing really bad happened #the big tank as fun as it is just doesn't hold in any moisture and needs daily care #and I want it to be set up so I don't have to worry about them when I'm away for a week doing cons #also... some of the species might not be geling well #and the stress might be what's killing the juvenile ones #so I'm going to be also seperating them all into their species as well #will hopefully also make breeding easiler in the future too #not sure what I'll use the big tank for maybe a gecko or a titan millipede if I can get a mister #ANYWAY! #hopefully be all set up by August #I might post next week because I'm going to an expo and I might see some new friends there #but it is a reptile one and I'm in no place to get a reptile yet #need to do more reseach want any little guy I get to be good

What triggered your mental breakdown?

I was debating on whether or not to answer this, but I just had to see the thoughts written down.

Long term, it started maybe a decade ago, but the recent breakdown started yesterday. Basically, my family was preparing to go grocery shopping and they said I can take my time getting ready and to not rush things. I took a shower and ate something and they apparently waited in the car for a long time and then my mom yelled at me why I took so long.

Then at the store, I was apparently too slow for my dad and he decided to take over. When I tried to explain why that was, I had to use a louder voice bc it was noisy and he yelled at me for yelling.

And the worst part was that after that, my parents behaved normally and talked with me as if nothing happened.

It was like this even after lunch, but then my mom started acting cold towards me and I overheard a comment of hers how slow I was and that my stuff, which is all cutesy and pink, was childish and I was behaving like a kid for liking these things.

I almost shut down after all of that and couldnt take it, had very horrible and harmful thoughts about myself. I just wanted some comfort, but I had to be strong bc I cant depend on people all my life and it most likely wore them down.
