The best part about Ereri/Riren is that they’d both be so fucking whipped for one another! And let me tell y’all, I’m not making this up on speculation, it’s based on actual canon evidence.
Eren and his hero worship which soon turned into upmost respect and admiration that didn’t end even when he decided to cut off his ties with his friends. He was always so side tracked in the story, Isayama threw so much trauma and plot at this boy that we barely got to see him just breathe, but he had his moments where he showed respect for Levi in ways he showed for no one else. I wish Isayama woulda dives in a little more to Eren’s feelings about Levi but well. At least we have fanfiction for that?
And Levi, OOOOOH BOY LEVI! Lmao this guy was more whipped then Eren at times but he just had a different way of showing it. From the ultimate “not bad” scene to him calling Eren a miracle (lol this is canon can y’all actually believe that?) to holding him in the same level of importance as Erwin to showing genuine concern for his mental well being (always staring at him in those covers, giving him that tissue when his nose bled, giving him advice and apologizing to him for all the awful things that have happened to him) and SO MUCH MORE! (He refers to Eren as a puppy in once of the visual novels I believe).
If they were to be together I just know they’d be the kind of couple that had complete confidence in each another and would always fall to their knees in worship for one another lmao.

The Lies We Told (The Hearts We Broke) by EastSunRise
(Rated T, 4,653 words, oneshot, complete)
Eren lets out a breath, lower lip trembling. “God, I hate you so much right now. How can you do this to me? How can you make me feel so much?” His hands grip tightly onto the lapels of Levi’s now see-through white dress shirt. “I hate you for making me fall in love with the world's greatest liar,” he whispers against Levi’s lips, and Levi almost stops breathing all together.
“I know. I’m sorry.” Levi rubs his nose against Eren’s. “If it makes any difference, at all, I think I’m in love with you as well. And you're just as much of a liar as I am. I mean, an assassin, really?”
(Two husbands realise their marriage has been built atop lies, and neither is exactly innocent.)

You know what we don’t have enough of?
Badass Eren.
And no, I am NOT including post-time skip Eren as badass Eren. The most badass thing he did was when he put his head against Pieck’s gun and told her she didn’t have the balls to shoot, and it’s one of my favorite moments but I’m not gonna include it cause post time skip Eren brings me depression.
ANYWAYS:
This boy had so much potential! He was number one in hand to hand combat. He had the stubbornness and dedication of a monster. He was a feral “beast” (remember when people were always denouncing his humanity? In the beginning of the story and in the end?) with a good heart and had so much love for everyone he held close. And he was so FUCKING SMART TOO! DONT ANYONE DARE DOUBT IT! This boy had real brains alright! He sometime just became a little clouded by his emotions and loyalties (and that’s a human thing that other characters had very little sympathy for).
Now with all of THAT (and so much more that I didn’t even put) Isayama gave him so little. I wanted to see more of Eren being badass! I wanted to see him be quick witted and sly and smart like I KNOW he can be (like he kind of almost seemed like after the time skip but I have a very strange relationship with that arc so I don’t like to think about it much). I wanted more moments of people just being in awe of him and his abilities (he’s so looked down upon tbh. The only person I think who’s shown genuine awe and confidence in his abilities is Levi, everyone else was mostly skeptic for a lot of the story). I wanted to see him climb all the way to the top! I wanted him to have at least one golden moment amongst all the tragedy, I wanted him to be fully acknowledged for his abilities.
I really just wanted more appreciation for him, you know? Since the story literally revolves around him???? It’s named after him (his Titan), he’s on almost every cover, and he’s the center piece for almost every single plot line. He’s the heart for everything in the story! And yet, he’s always reduced to so little (at least, from my perspective).

Forever mourning the fact that we never got to see Eren just live.
We never got to see him in moments where he simply joked around with his friends, had tea with Levi while laughing at his shit jokes, got forced into listening to Hange’s hour long science-y talks like that first night they met, and just be for longer than a few panels.
Every moment we got with a semblance of Eren just being a normal person enjoying a sweet moment of life, it’s either shadowed by a dark pretense or quickly falls away to tragedy.

To the boy who sought freedom.
To Eren, freedom was many things. And throughout his life, he found it in many places.
Then he lost it in the mocking hands of the cruel world he’d been born into.
To Eren, freedom was once his mother’s laughter as she smiled and spun him around in her arms and the light gleaming off of his father’s glasses as he turned his head just so to stare at them with pure love.
Then he watched her scream for her life, kicking with her broke legs, and next he was sitting in there empty forest, holding his father’s cracked glasses, the steam rising around him, blistering heat on his skin, and the chilling heat in his chest.
(Mikasa always said the world was cruel. Eren always wished for her to be wrong. She was never wrong.)
To Eren, freedom was once the ringing in his ears and the heavy beating against his chest as he ran through the brick stone streets of Shiganshina (where other children laughed and jumped as the boring adults roamed about in their dull lives), past the open gates and drunk soldiers who laughed at him (what useless pests they were), and up to that tree atop the hill with Armin and Mikasa right behind him.
Then he turned around and saw those hideous, indestructible walls of stone that refused to fall down. And then he remembered, he was never free as long they stood.
(Armin always smiled so brightly when he reached the top. Eren always noticed. He never understood why he looked so happy, did he not see those walls that mocked them?)
To Eren, freedom was once in the black and white wings of his captain, strong and glorious as he stood before him, protecting him even against all the odds.
Then he came to learn that Humanity’s Strongest was just a moniker, and no matter how true of a name it was, Captain Levi was only human.
(It was obvious in his little quirks, such as his creative, yet dry shit jokes, his awkward empathy and comfort, the honest compassion and loyalty he held for his comrades, and the strange way he held his tea cup, as if it was made of delicate glass and he was a man who treasured such fragility. Levi Ackerman was very much human in the most obvious ways, ways Eren wished he’d been able to appreciate more.)
To Eren, freedom was once in the eradication of all titans and the future of humanity, in a world where monsters could no longer haunt them and walls could never cage them in again.
Then he went and found out that the actual monsters were just humans, and the walls were never cages.
(How disappointed he was. How angry, how hurt, how sad. How he wished it would all down. How he wished it didn’t have to be him to do so.)
To Eren, freedom was once in the open sky of blue and white, with clouds underneath his feet and wind in his hair, his arms spread out and the entire universe in his reach.
Then he remembered the girl trapped in servitude for two thousand years. Then he remembered the world was burning. Then he remembered the people crushed beneath his feet.
Then he remembered a lost smile and broke glasses.
Then he remembered a tattered scarf holding memories and a forgotten book of promises.
Then he remembered the clipped wings of dying hope.
The he remembered who he was, and what world he had been born into.
Then he remembered that freedom was not for devils such as him.
(As he closed his eyes for the last time, he thought to himself, for a boy who was never meant for freedom, he sure did find it in all the most unexpected places. It was a nice little thought to fall asleep to. He was glad he wouldn’t have to wake up again.)

I am THIS close to just writing an entire Eren-Centric fic where he’s finally happy and appreciated. He deserves it.
(Maybe I’ll add in some background Ereri or hint at it as a treat for myself.)

Writing can be so hard sometimes!! Especially when there’s so many ideas you want to write but you want to write them all at the same time because your brain is just dumb like that.
I have like 10 stories I want to write, and I’m currently in the midst of writing like 4 of them, all the while 3 of my WIPs are just sitting there staring at me like: “🤨does she not see us?”

“If you want to save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else, you’ll have to control this power!”
What does that even mean tho?? What was the point of Grisha telling Eren this? Was he being general and just saying “Eren, you have to learn how to turn into a Titan and fight so you can protect ur friends against the entire world and their entire militia that has weapons that can blow your ass up” ? Or was there a deeper meaning? What exactly was the power he was referring to and why was it so fucking vague?
Isayama please I need to no more. My boy Eren needs justice for all the badass shit we never got to learn about him!
