“I’m coming,” you said with a sigh when your aunt called for you for the fourth time in a row. She had mentioned that their dinners are usually around 6pm, but you had no idea what time it was. And you weren’t hungry at all. Your plan was just join the dinner and listen to your family members talking.
You walked out of the room and walked downstairs where the dining room was. When you entered the dining room, you found out that your cousins Carolyn and David were there already, giving each others not really nice looks. When you looked around, you found your aunt walking to the table and she smiled at you softly.
“Hello Y/n,” she greeted you and you just smiled back at her, not talking at all.
You sat down onto a free chair which was opposite to David. Carolyn was sitting at the end of the table and she seemed to be enjoying it really. Her favorite song was playing and you just had to deal with that even if you were preffering a quiet dinner since your life had changed rapidly.
Soon, Roger, your aunt´s brother arrived and together with him a red haired woman you knew was called here to help David but you didn´t know anything else about her. She sat down opposite to you, next to David and Roger sat closer to Elizabeth.
“Chop chop Willie, I am starving. And God help me if it´s another bone-dry pot roast-”
“Who is this?” The red haired woman asked and she looked at Elizabeth. You looked at her too and you realized that you haven´t talked to the woman yet.
“Julia, this is my niece, Y/n. Y/n, this is Julia, David´s-”
“Babysitter,” the woman said and you looked at her, frowning. You realized that Elizabeth did the same but you didn´t really care about it.
When the food arrived onto the table and you looked at it, you knew that you wouldn´t eat definitely. Just one look at the food was enough for you to make a decision about that you would rather stay hungry until the next morning than eat this.
When the cutlery started clicking on the sides of the plates, you pretended that you were eating. You were just playing with the rice which was on the plate and refused to eat from that.
“So... what are you doing here?” The red haired woman asked you and you just looked at her.
“Julia don´t-” Elizabeth tried to stop her but you were faster than she could finish her sentence.
“Elizabeth and Roger are my only relatives I have,” you said and the woman frowned.
“How so? They are not your parents, none of them-” Julia tried to figure it out and when you saw that there was no way of backing away, you closed your eyes.
“My parents are dead. They died two weeks ago in a car accident. I came here to live with my aunt,” you said when Elizabeth cut you off.
“Y/n you don´t have to explain yourself. You are not one of her patients,” Elizabeth said and you took a deep breath to ask something, when Elizabeth stood up. “Come. We will finish the dinner in my office.”
Elizabeth waited for you to stand up and you just walked away from the table, without taking your dinner. When Elizabeth looked at you, you just shook your head, what Julia realized.
“Elizabeth, she has and eating disorder and she is probably hurting herself as well,” Julia said and your eyes wide opened as you looked at her. She didn´t make an eye contact and Elizabeth pulled you a little so you would walk out of the dining room.
When you arrived to her office and she closed the doors, you sat down onto the couch which was there. Elizabeth sat opposite to you and folded her legs under herself.
Few minutes of silence were like the biggest struggle for you. Being there with Elizabeth without talking meant that she was thinking about some question to ask you, so all you could do was to think about some explanations for what the woman said.”What Julia said... is that true?” She asked you after you sat there in silence for some time and you didn´t even look at her.
You had no need to do that. You didn´t need to answer her questions, give her any explanation. You didn´t talk about things like to your parents, why should you tell your aunt?
“Y/n?”
“Mhm?”
“Is that true what Julia said?” Elizabeth asked you again and you finally looked up at her, looking her into her brown eyes. The same brown ones your mother had.
“Might be,” you said quietly.
“You are hurting yourself?” Elizabeth asked you and you shook your head no. She seemed to believe you, even tho she didn´t have a proof. She believed you even if it wasn´t true. “So... when was the last time you ate?”
“I don´t remember,” you said immediately, being surprised with that you didn´t even lie. When you looked up at Elizabeth, you started to feel some guilt and you wanted her to know something about you at least, even if you wasn´t sure that something should have been your eating disorder. “Maybe two days ago. And after that I threw it up.”
Elizabeth didn´t say anything for a couple of minutes. She was thinking, you could tell. When she took a deeper breath, you were expecting everything but what she asked.
“Would you like to get some help?”
“How do you mean that?” You asked back and Elizabeth sighed.
“Julia is a psychiatrist who is helping David.” She said and you immediately knew why was she like that. “She is not his babysitter,” she said and you nodded your head.
“It is not just about my eating disorder, there are lot more things,” you said and Elizabeth made herself more comfortable.
“Would you like to tell me about them?”
“I struggle with depressions, my eating disorder. I used to hurt myself and used to do drugs,” you said all at once and when you looked up at Elizabeth, you had a need to explain. “I don´t do them anymore.”
“Okay,” Elizabeth just said and you waited what would she say more. “If you want me to, I can talk to Julia about this? And then you two can talk,” she said and you swallowed. Trying to think about it, you realized that you just opened up to your aunt. There was nothing to be scared of anymore.
“Okay,” you told her and took a deep breath, watching Elizabeth smile at you softly.
“Now, would you like to try and finish your dinner slowly?”
“Liz, I would throw up,” you said sadly and Elizabeth understood. She smiled at you sadly and you just looked away from her, closing your eyes. You were about to talk to a psychiatrist soon. To a doctor you didn´t even know nor trusted.
