Though I recognize their kantoku, I don't remember Sakurazawa from when I watched the anime forever ago, but reading the manga now, I fell in love with them. Of course, ナンパ is typically used of a man picking up a woman (a woman picking up a man is 逆ナン, lit. “reverse nanpa”) bc y’know heteronormativity; I don’t know if another word is used for gay pick-ups or if the queers just co-opted it. And, sure, Hayate did at first wonder if Mima had mistaken him for a woman, but Mima had not. He knew full well he was a man. So if that ain’t what happened, then why describe it that way??

Man, the difference in the way these two see themselves. Loid says, “My name is Tasogare,” and he means “name,” while this other spy says “My name is Shinonome,” while he means “code name.”

To the other guy, Shinonome/Daybreak is just an identity, an assumed name; his actual name is who he really is. But for Loid, Tasogare/Twilight is who he is.

(Update: I realized I was misreading the second kanji in Shinonome’s name as 雷 when it’s 雲 lol I’m blind. 東雲 is an actual word too, actually read しののめ, idk why nothing came up when I tried searching for it by reading. ty to @chaikajpeg for indirectly making me realize that!)

And like, I knew that already, both from on here and from him always referring to himself as Tasogare in his head when most people would use their name because that is his name to him, but seeing it laid out like that just a few pages apart in the manga just hits different.

I met my first mayfly (?) today at work this morning! I only recently learned that what I’d always thought were mayflies were actually crane flies, and I think this handsome fellow is an actual mayfly. Regardless, they’re the first of their kind I’ve ever seen.

It’s kind of ironic that I wrote a fic where Subaru’s knees never heal enough for him to return to competitive volleyball and he has to watch from the sidelines as Yuni takes the spot meant for him in college… and then like a week later I got to a point in canon where Aoki sprains/twists/whatever his ankle and he refuses to acknowledge it, much less fucking stay off it. Everyone accepts it when he insists he’s fine, but they take it with a grain of salt and like keep an eye on him. Luckily after the set he lets Ibara tape it and lets himself be subbed out. But then their coach fucking puts him back in?? He doesn’t even protest or anything, he was wanting to go back in anyway but had played it off since he didn’t think he’d be allowed. They didn’t lose the second set due to him hiding his injury, but if the reason they lose the match is this boy’s fucking stubbornness, oh my god. He says his dad (who’s an architect) is always complaining about something hurting, so if he hurts himself permanently from this then it’s fine bc it’s normal even for non-athletes— I know how smart you are, so how are you so stupid. How is he simultaneously the smartest and yet dumbest character in this series, simultaneously the weakest and yet most stubborn. I love him, but I hate him. He doesn’t even like volleyball!

So while finishing up that Ookuma/Uchimura fic yesterday (because Nao calls YuniChika’s oblivious mutual pining obnoxious) I had an idea for another one where Nao loses his mind over it one day at practice and the second-years decide to meddle for the sake of their sanity and plan a team outing at an amusement park, hoping to get YuniChika alone and to realize and/or act on their feelings.

Yeah I started on that today, though it ended up just being Hokao organizing it, and being more couples than just ynck. If it were just Ookuma/Nao, I might have nearly gotten it finished today lmao (Although then I’d need to write some stuff between when Ookuma gives Nao his scarf and the ferris wheel kiss later on, which.)

I know Ookuma and Nao are getting together (obviously), as well as Yuni and Chika, and that Kanno and Ibara aren’t, and also that Ayano from the girls’ team (Hokao invited them too as pretext for inviting Ibara) has a crush on Hokao and the furthest it goes here is her telling him and them deciding to start as friends, but I have no idea about Oda and Aoki. And aside from YuniChika and OdaAoki going off together and then later splitting up, I have absolutely no idea what anyone aside from OoUchi does.

Augh, this is another one that’s gonna be in my drafts forever, isn’t it.
