The Island (2005)

A movie that constantly finds itself on underrated sci-fi lists, Michael Bay's The Island is an action packed sci-fi blockbuster that is very apparent to Bay's known project Transformers. I believe that's why The Island is lesser known and hasn't evolved as it should've. The Island itself is a place where rich people store their clones so when those people die, their clone replaces them like a life extension project of sorts. The clones are aware of a process called "winning the lottery" where one of them would become selected to leave The Island but it's not a rosy picture like it sounds and only assumptions have been made to what happens to the winner. This movie takes on two courses, the first half is very story heavy that gives the viewer a clear idea on how The Island works and so forth (told by a man named James played by Steve Buscemi). Once you become drawn into the idea then the movie goes into an action-packed direction which is only minor in story and more guns-a-blazing. Normally, I would be against this but for The Island it's a natural fit and indicative to Michael Bay's style. The acting is top-notch and the chemistry between actors never dries out. This is a great cult film with a high re-watch value that has me zoned in every time.
