Ed, Edd n Eddy | Thursday, 01.4.24
On this day, 25 years ago, Ed, Edd n Eddy premiered on Cartoon Network.
Despite being one of Cartoon Network's best shows, it lost its title of being "the longest running show" on Cartoon Network to Teen Titans Go! as of January 2024.

hopping on the train of saying that your art is p h e n o m i n a l
I don't use that word lightly, I mean that your art is so close to the cannon designs that it really feels like they're part of the show. Your designs of all these characters that I haven't really looked at (like the tadc background characters) were amazing and I think that you deserve to get attention from the original creators of what you draw because your depictions are so well done and created beautifully.
Keep up the perfect work and just remember that everyone following you thinks the same way :]
And also go drink water if you haven't yet
I'm really sorry I took so long to respond to this but this truly did blow me away that I didn't even know how to process it. And then had a kind of insecurity imposter syndrome crisis about it for a while n thus couldn't face it. But aside from that, I really, really appreciate the words. Honestly, this really does mean a hell of a lot to me. They make my year or life. I really had to show my friend like look look at this godly compliment I got, as I hide under the floorboards.
Tumblr media
Ahh what. It might sometimes look like I know what I'm doing, but I assure you, I don't lmao. Reallyyy glad it looks toony though. My stuff is heavily inspired by 90s n early 2000's cartoons, so I'm glad it kind of shows. I think tadc has really brought it out of me really, since I never used to draw much comics or even that much slapstick previously, even despite drawing a lot of ed edd n eddy. But it's definitely all from what I've mainly absorbed from eene n some others. I have a lot to learn though. Anyway, absolutely KO'd, thanks so much man.

ghuhhhh shucks I'm dying, I can't handle it. That's so nice.

Could Mechanist defeat Reserve Team A6?
One of the few entities in Terra capable of doing so.
As discussed previously, Reserve Team A6 works on slapstick rules: They could defeat Patriot simply because it would be funny if they did, and they can only be decisively defeated if it would be humorous or ironic in a humorous way. Mechanist has a rare property, however, that renders him fully immune to any Doctor Slump or Ed Edd and Eddy-class shenanigan. He simply Refuses To Participate.
Essentially, Mechanist is immune to The Bit. It's like his Fate passive ability: The same way Cu has protection from projectiles, Mechanist has protection from The Bit, but to an even more absolute level. He simply is water midst The Bit's oil, passing through untouched and completely distinct from it. If an anvil were to fall on Mechanist as he was crossing the street, courtesy of Catapult, he could dodge it, regardless of whether it's funny for him to do so or not. If Popukar paints a tunnel on a brick wall and then attempts to escape into it, it would work if it were Patriot, who would then splat himself flat against it in pursuit, but she simply could not go into the tunnel if her pursuer were Mechanist, because it's not a tunnel, it's a painting of a tunnel. If Midnight were to leave a huge black circular bomb at Patriot's feet, his eyes would bulge out dramatically before it explodes in a pastel big bang of orange, red and yellow, and he'd be a pile of ash with eyes for the reminder of the scene until he sweeps himself into a tray with a broom and regains his Wendigo form, but Mechanist would simply put the fuse out.
It just wouldn't work, bud. Just like Ho'olheyak is the hard counter to Muelsyse due to her being able to manipulate the air around water molecules, Mechanist is the A6 hard counter due to simply existing outside of The Bit.

Regarding your comments about Raven Molisee and Rachel Connor, what do you know about them specifically? Might you share with us?
By the way, what are your thoughts on season 5 as a whole? High and low points?
Can't remember any specifics now, but this is basically what I gathered from reading Raven's deviantart comments from the ancient days (I think it was these two doodle posts, TW blood in the first one). He was concerned the characters were becoming caricatures of themselves and/or acting out-of-character. It seems he voiced his doubts in the studio but they fell upon deaf ears, although at least one person, Sabrina Alberghetti (Sibsy) might have been of the same opinion, judging by a comment I saw. That's all I know really😅 Dunno if @lynyrdsquidward has more info on this (enlighten us professor 😁if you remember any of this old nonsense, that is, haha)
AFAIK Rachel Connor didn't say anything about this topic (most of what I've heard from her comes from those eene podcasts from a year or two ago), although this old tumblr post about Eddy and Bro gave me the idea she might have been on the same wavelength as Raven, in terms of being interested in 'angst' and deeper aspects of the characters' personalities. But you'd have to check which episodes she had a hand in to guess what she brought to the table. On a sidenote, she coincidentally joined the show around the same time as Raven (the holiday specials before season 5 started, and on until the end of the show).
As for what I think of season 5, maybe there is effectively an increase in insane slapstick, perhaps aided by the change to digital medium. Some of the action feels different, but I don't have a strong opinion, there's already lots of debate about season 5 as it is. Generally I might be biased towards the first 4 seasons cause my very vague memories of seeing EEnE as a kid are of the summer episodes. I will say, though, I've noticed that there's something oddly nostalgic about BPS for me, as if I did see it as a kid on TV, some saturday morning... maybe it's just the 'feature-length movie made for TV' aspect of it that feels familiar, dunno. I will say, Rachel Connor was the writer for Smile For The Ed, and I think it shows in that Eddy is an innocent victim for once (and I think Eddy being written as a 'villain' protagonist was sort-of the pet peeve for Raven) It's something to consider, whether you like the episode or not (people compare it to Your Ed Here, but I think it's different, topic for another time). Then you have Fistful of Ed, which no doubt was what Raven wanted to see from the show, at least for Edd's character. A personal favorite is Boom, Boom, Out Goes The Ed cause literally half of the episode is taken by Kevin and Rolf subplot 😁 I like to imagine a full season 6 would have seen more of the other characters on their own 👀

Dude, I meant to not judge the characters as good or bad, not to stop analyzing them. Ed Edd and Eddy was filmed in "ancient times", when shows based on violence and how everyone was bad was the norm. Every single character behaves meanly for the sake of humor.
i mean true, i do sometimes feel like we're going in circles a bit here with who's bad who's good and why. i personally couldn't care less. you're talking to an eddy enjoyer here... the morality of a character, lack thereof, whatever, has no influence on whether i like them or not, but it matters to some people i guess. and it can certainly play a role in someone's analysis of a character when looking at why they do the things they do, etc. i wouldn't call the tripe i post here analysis but we have fun. or at least try. idk i just answer questions i get sent. it's nothing to get heated about! all the characters are "bad" in their own way, just like real people are. it's a silly slapstick cartoon indeed, but it holds a lot of meaning to me and a bunch of other folks on here. i try to avoid being dismissive about it for that reason.

I’m not kidding when I say that Ed Edd n Eddy had THE BEST slapstick since Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes and it’s been rarely replicated ever since: it has such an impact  and force that even on repeated watchings its so freaking funny and good

You know, despite Nazz being the most bland and forgettable of the kids, I also think she's (ironically) the most versatile at the same time. She might be both a tomboy and a girly girl, she fits in two trios (sometimes she's hanging out with Kevin and Rolf, sometimes she's hanging out with Sarah and Jimmy- something that hardly applies to the other characters), she has a fair share of interests (sports, studying law, fashion, music, math according to her report card) and actually a good jokes and gags (she eats A LOT, she's poor in music, and according to ''Mission-Ed Possible'' she's also bad in cooking). There so much directions they could took with her... and she's the only nice girl on the show.
I guess since most of the writers were men, they preferred or were more comfortable writing for male characters most of time (or they just assumed most of the target public/audience were boys, like usually happened in that time).
Yeah I actually like Nazz as a character and of all the kids on the show she is absolutely the most pleasant one to be around! Unfortunately given the high octane slapstick, exaggerated personalities, and overall humor of the show she sort of gets lost. Nazz functions to fit some role in service of the plot rather than plots being driven by some key aspect of her personality or interests. Which as a side character makes some sense but I feel like each of the side characters get their moments to shine! When we get a Nazz focused episode it’s really more about how all the boys feel about her. Nazz’s desires, motives, history, and perspective aren’t super fleshed out which is my main critique.
For a show about the awkwardness of puberty she is astoundingly well adjusted. I always assumed she was slightly older than the Eds so maybe 13-14? She’s inexplicably very mature. I kind of wish we got a sense of why that was the case! Like, we know Edd is the responsible one in his respective trio because he has to an extremely independent kid at home (and has mad anxiety). I don’t know what drives Nazz to be thoughtful, kind, and relatively more mature. Does anyone else? In the series bible she is described as “most mature of the kids, or so she thinks” and man do I want to know more what that means! Like maybe she should have been shown being more self conscious about wanting to seem older/ more mature than her age. It doesn’t get explored really!
And then there is just the reality of being a middle schooler! Scott Underwood posted a drawing of Nazz where she has leg hair and I’m kind of mad nothing like that got incorporated in the show!! That sort of character design choice gets relegated to the Kanker sisters (obsessed with that photo of Lee shaving her legs in the fucking kitchen sink, what an icon).
It’s why I find the interface of the Kankers and Nazz so interesting - I risk sounding like a broken record but I’ve been saying the same shit for like 10 years now. And while the Kankers aren’t necessarily the most well rounded either they ARE much more interesting to me because the crew wasn’t afraid to make them unlikable or gross or tackle their pubescent growing pains or their messed up love/hate relationship to men.
Idk this is just my take! I could be missing some things, so I’m curious how other folks feel about Nazz!

Ever notice how often Eddy asks to be "punched" or have physical violence be enacted upon him? Hmmm...interesting...

Choc Kinsley Hcs #2
Another Hc post about Choc. Though this was meant to be shorter than the last it had spiraled from here and got longer. If anyone wants to know more about Choc, I'm very willing to share what I can.
Second part to this post;
Born on April 1st, 1956, born and raised up in the Toppat clan with his younger sister, Honey and his family since his grandmother had first joined up
Has a complicated relationship with his family. All had done some lifelong, traumatic harm/abuse in their own special way. Does his best to ensure their safety, and he can't hate them but it's a disinterested sensation.
Struggled with his mental health for most if not all throughout his life since he was born. Has Empathy Deficit Disorder (EDD) but able to control it (mask) for the most part. Besides his family nobody knows and he prefers it that way
^ In turn, he picked up horrible habits that many don't know, partly resorts to indulging in it in order to get a specific job he thinks needs to be handled done
^ Tends to be a people pleaser as a result, pushes himself to be a hard worker, and learns to mask who he is for the ‘betterment’ of the people near him.
He's hard of hearing that over time as he gets older become more prominent and so wears hearing aids but often forgets to wear or rather doesn't like the feel of them.
^ Does get overwhelmed by all the sounds surrounding him to the point he is quick to tune everything out as an escape. Sometimes he does this purposely so he doesn't have to hear anyone around him too and their bickering
^  He has picked up on the silence, the smallest of details and slightest noise in turn. Though tends to space out so you can't tell if he's truly focusing and listening or not.
Beside his time as an enforcer for the clan, Choc did work in other similar fields alongside, one as an informant and the other undercover. Now mainly sticks with being in the informational sector or with his family in the kitchen area
Since his childhood, his active years as the Toppats’ enforcement to now in due time somehow managed to worm his goofy self into the heart of even the coldest, closed off people who is endeared to his charm.
^ In the clan, there's very few or no one who can find it in them to hate the guy, who apparently has a soothingly warm aura that can make anyone around him at ease.
Appears outwardly to be a 'heart on the sleeve’ sort of guy. He's observant to pick up on other people's face and body language.
Flexible in the way of being double and loose jointed; able to dislocate most if not all of his body parts with uncanny ease. All from the case of hypermobility
^ A party trick he used to do and can do now was to twist his head around like an owl and keep it in place. Same with the rest of his limbs too in a way it can't be humanly possible.
Back to his skills in combat; he enjoys putting comedic value into it, (it works surprisingly well) uses good ol’ fashioned slapstick
Naturally clumsy and accident prone as a result, is why he's seen covered up in bandages more often than not. Also, has scarring in common areas but uncommon too both he won't disclose on
Would classify himself as the clan's lead jester/clown, enjoys throwing out a  good joke at his own expense and will do anything to cheer anyone who is feeling down. Rarely do you see him ever be anything other than happy; it's almost uncanny.
High energy, so he is constantly on the move, high metabolism. He does ‘comfort eat’ and is always snacking, mostly sweets

How excited were you when gear 5 was revealed
mannnnnnn making your character who's already reads like a literal take on "rubberhose" have a final form that's straight up a looney tunes type slapstick character with the power to "bend reality" in humourous ways like that was smart i really liked that. it actually reminded me of an observation someone made about how Nazz in ed edd n eddy "doesnt take advantage of the cartoon world around her" and framing the ability to do the impossible as some kind of choice or learned skill and was kind of interesting to think about, i hadn't really thought about it too hard before, and it does seem most often its the most carefree cartoon characters who aren't stuck in any kind of concrete beliefs in how the world around them must work exactly, because comedy comes from the unexpected. seeing that trope taken and spun into some kind of superpower is a really fun way to explore that concept. so suffice to say yeah i was giddy as a schoolgirl and kicking my feet when i got to that chapter

Wow wow wow the amazing digital circus was truly something special. It feels like a hazy memory of a nightmarish fever dream. It’s stylized 2000’s cgi influence on the art style is so charming allow the characters striking and charming designs shine. The characters are so fun and have so many quirks because their bodies are so unique like they took the silhouette rule to another level. Not only are characters bodies abstract and cartoonish they also have different mannerisms that go along with it like Cain especially there was one scene where his eyes rolled out onto his tongue and it was fantastic! The backgrounds reminds me of an old desktop screensaver and the music matches the aesthetic as well. It truly feels like a game you had on a dvd that played before when you were a kid. The plot line feels HEAVIY inspired by I have no mouth and i must scream. The way there is an ai god torturing these humans(?) but in this case Caine is way less outwardly evil.I love it’s over the top slapstick comedy and cliched sound effects it reminds me of the sound design from ed edd n eddy. It’s also just genuinely really funny like i laughed out loud at Jax’s bowling strike joke. I really hope we get more it deserves all it’s flowers and i think the potential is great. It’s truly one of the best pilots i’ve seen in a long time

‼️ HUGE SPOILERS FOR FEAR STREET 1994 IN THE SECOND CLIP ‼️
I had recently started rewatching Fear Street with my cousin when I had realized how similar these two scenes were, not to mention Heather and Edd practically say the same line. Crazy how I could connect a silly slapstick cartoon to a horror movie.
Recommend watching Fear Street if you are a fan of horror, it’s like one of my favorite horror trilogies.
