and what if i raise you.. ‘eddie for whatever reason is not at dispatch when it sets on fire, while buck is convinced he is. so buck is searching relentlessly for him with no luck. and bobby evacuates the building because it’s too unstable, and while half of bucks heart is screaming two cut lines, to search until the building comes down on the both of them, the other half of his heart is screaming it’s in my will that if i die you become christopher’s legal guardian. buck thinks about eddie’s kid, their kid, all alone, and leaves eddie to come home to chris. and don’t get me wrong buck will be a wreck, thinking he’s failed eddie and he couldn’t save him but he had to go. one of them has to go home to christopher. and then eddie comes back from his fucking coffee run or something and sees his new workplace, the place where he was supposed to be safe, going down in flames. and he finds the 118 and buck and they fall into each other. buck’s sobbing in his arms; “i thought you were in there, i wanted to stay, i wanted to go with you so bad but i got out for chris, but you’re here, you’re alright.” and all eddie can think about is how there are no guarantees, about how the safest place he will ever be is when buck has his back, about how buck made the active decision to make sure their son will always have one father. but today two fathers get to go home’ :,)
