I am Names. You can call me that if you want. To friends… how about Friend? To strangers, Stranger. To those who dislike me, how about Odious? To those I dislike, I can be Vile. If you're unsure, how about Ilk? Or, if you like… you can give me your name, and I'll give you a new one. We could even share. But what are names, exactly? They are titles, they are windows. They are promises and self-fulfilling prophecies. They are identities and they are masks. They are opportunities and chains. Names have power, more power than you might think. So, think carefully… what shall your Name be?
Names (mirrored/any), Edeia of Names. My little indulgence for a fae-inspired Edeia! Definitely just inspiration though. Folklore was not referenced for accuracy.
(They definitely play the "may I have your name" / "may I have your pronouns" game.)
More about them below the cut! And even more about them on TH.
Edeia Site | Edeia Discord | Personal Website
About Names
The Edeia generally known as Names has many names, and many facets of their self to go along with them. Some might think of the countless names as false identities, but for Names, each name they use is one real to them, one in which they'd found themself. They enjoy testing the limits of who they are, who they could be, and who they want to be.
Names also enjoys playing "games"… where they are always at an advantage in one way or another, and/or at no risk of loss. These include deals, gambles, and other arrangements they find interesting. For instance, even if another offers their Name, Names will never offer theirs—if they even have any risk of loss, besides their magic power. One example of a gamble they might play with a human is that if the human wins, they'll give them a name sure to bring them great financial success and stability; if the human loses, they'll give them a name of a pariah. They don't care too much about the outcomes for these humans; they're just as happy to laugh at someone as they are to laugh with someone, generally speaking.
Names does like to give a fair chance, however—or fair enough, however you look at it. They've crafted their abilities so that others' Names aren't immediately revealed to them, for one. They'll avoid finding out others' names and other forms of address outside of interacting with them directly, as it's part of their "game" of getting to know others.
They also enjoy all sorts of music and dance; they collect every kind of instrument and try to learn it, and like to learn all sorts of dances (with a preference for folk dances). They also create their own instruments, compose their own songs, and choreograph their own dances. In their games, a human might find themself relieved that their loss penalty or price for a deal is simply to teach Names a dance, a song, how to use a certain instrument, or an instrument itself. Names might invite others, including humans and Edeia, into their Abstraction for a festival of song and dance.
Names is unrepentantly themself in all their names. They have made themself into exactly who they want to be, after all. They can enjoy good company and friendship, though they don't particularly care if others dislike or grow to dislike them; they are just as happy in solitude, in their music and dance, and in their "games."
History
Names was once an Identity—rather, they were a human that would have become one. Let's call them Ming (名, Míng, meaning 'name'). They were born among the Chinese landed gentry during the Tang Dynasty with the Idea of Identity, and they grew up highly aware of the kinds of identities others had around them. They were particularly drawn to others' names, however: how the names affected them, how those names affected others. Many they knew had two, three, or more—their given name, courtesy name, art name (pseudonyms, or hào), nicknames, and perhaps other titles.
As they grew older and made their own name for themself—or perhaps names for themself—they indulged in the experience of giving and receiving names. Names exchanged with Ming had some magic power imbued in them at that time, though not too much.
It was when Ming met another Actualized Identity, who revealed Ming's state, that Ming realized their magical potential and began experimenting with the extent of their abilities. Through their experimentation, they felt that they did not simply want to be another Identity. They had their own names. They were more than just an "Identity." They sought a deeper understanding of themself, considering each of their names and what they meant; eventually, Ming was, through their magic, able to define their Name. Then, by knowing their Name, they became able to change the essence of themself. Without hesitation, they altered their state of being an Identity to being their own self, and named their Idea as Names.
At the moment of their changes settling in, they felt themself at a threshold, and Actualized.
Names traveled often after that, making their way across various parts of the globe. They stayed for quite a while in Europe, delighted and fascinated by the cultures, and having their fun with humans in certain areas. Names and the activity of some other Edeia around this time led to more and more tales of fae, and Names enjoyed taking on the name of Fae to play around with the people, playing up to that name while still being no less true to themself.
When the time for the Age of Secrecy hit, Names played along with Order's game as well. It was fun to see what they could do within the bounds of secrecy—how for they could go without receiving a warning. As it turns out, quite a bit—so long as humans didn't know there was magic, they could be as superstitious as they wanted, and Names's games worked well in the realm of secrets and uncertainties. They traveled often, sometimes blending their Abstraction with a real forest and inviting in guests to come and get lost in music and dance. After a night of revelry, the human visitors would find themselves asleep in their homes, thinking the experience a fun dream.
After Reunion began, Names continued their games—and was much more open about their existence. They registered with Data and occasionally visited reunited society (often to learn music and dance), but preferred to travel, spend time in their Abstraction, and draw people in to play their "games."

I want to get something off of my chest, so I don’t care if this is posted or deleted.
A follow up to the Edeia voiding post; It’s not my style to go against CS rules for the most part but I can’t afford to spend that kind of money just to walk about of the species with the designs I love. And even if I could afford it, I am… hesitant to give the owner another cent after the sheer amount of money I already gave them. I know some of my friends read this blog so I might be about to lose friendships for what I’m about to say, but it can’t be helped. No matter how much I like a CS, I won’t support a practice that I feel is unjustified.
So, I’m erasing all connections to the species from my characters’ TH profiles, and treating them as one-offs without getting them “officially” voided. I just want out of this shitty place and having to pay to void my shit feels like I’m being held hostage at this point. I’ve talked to enough people, family and friends and others IRL, about the situation and no one sees the point of paying extra just to freely use the characters I already bought. Christ, even people I talk to who are presently still IN the species didn’t know there was a voiding fee, and even they think it’s stupid after finding out.
I tallied up the cost of the Edeia I wanted to void, and the combined price of them was $1,175. I shouldn’t have to pay another $390-$455 on top of that. That’s just robbery at that point, considering the void fee wasn’t in existence when I got my designs. I don’t know when it got added, but I really don’t remember it being there before I walked out last year.
In the end, what came of my initial conversation with Auspice was me handing back $230 worth of designs to get my sona and his husband voided, and to obtain ownership of a fusion I co-owned with Auspice. It wasn’t a good deal by any means; voiding my sona and his mate would have cost $70, which leaves $160 for the ownership transfer and the… “Redesign” of the fusion. Which was a fucking fuss, I was handed a design I hated, and when I did my own variation, Aus fucking whined because they didn’t like me keeping the cape-like sleeves or stars on the inside of the clothes because that was “their sona’s traits.” The redesign, the time spent negotiating, and the transfer of the ownership rights definitely should NOT have cost $160 for what I got in the end. And the reason I wanted the fusion at all is because it would have otherwise just been deleted and I didn’t want my original $175 going to waste.
After some… “negotiating” on the areas of tension with the design, we “settled” on a redesign that was just a glorified version of my own sona, which wasn’t what I wanted. But I was fed up and dealing with Auspice gives me severe anxiety, so I approved it anyway just so that I could stop interacting. After ownership rights were handed over to me I tweaked the design on my own to restore the vibe and look I wanted. I compared the redesign and Auspice’s sona with a bunch of peeps and we all determined it’s very different from their sona in appearance.
oh ill definitely answer this one. auspice can suck it, edeia and its entire foundations can suck it, and that 35usd per character voiding fee can suck it the hardest
i wouldn't feel bad a single ounce it's unreasonable to expect people to pay to leave a cs and is in similar maliciousness for scummy services to create cancellation fees to force people to stay in the service or exhaust them so much they can be squeezed for a few more pennies. that shit's awful in real life what makes you think it's not a slimy practice in cs too
fuck are they going to do edeia can fucking suuuuuck itttt and burn in hell

Oh, if you want something for the blog, it turns out that the void fee for Edeia was lowered from $35 per character to $15 per character. There's a form to fill out now, as well, and it appears that trades are also being accepted or considered as an alternate form of payment instead of money.
It won't let me post the direct link, so I have to make it a [text link]. Hope that works, but if not it's on the species' website in the ToS section.

A situation regarding Edeia Fusion Voiding Rules
I've been waffling on posting this since yesterday, but after consulting with a few people about the situation and receiving their viewpoints, I feel this should be brought up because frankly, this is extremely unprofessional and questionable conduct, and potentially risky as well.
Recently, without my permission or even my acknowledgement, an Edeia fusion I co-owned with an ex-friend was voided.  My ex-friend and I have each other blocked, and neither the species owner themself nor anyone else reached out to me about it when my ex-friend made the request; Ausp-ice just processed the request and that was final.
I take issue with this because, where a design is a fusion of two or more characters belonging to two or more people, I feel like all people have equal ownership of the character; and where you need the consent of all parties to CREATE the fusion (someone can't just up and fuse their Edeia with someone else's without that person's permission), you should also need or require all parties' consent to void or nullify the design as well.  It's just common courtesy, really…
Anyway, after reviewing the Edeia and fusion voiding rules with several other people who are aware of certain circumstances that have been going on, it's been agreed upon that this was likely set up intentionally to get around giving me a say in the matter where I have personal tensions and negative experiences with both the ex-friend in question and species owner themself.
Tumblr media
Since the image will likely be too small to read, here's a direct link to the image.
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/784649825982611458/911654135525433444/unknown.png
If you co-own the fusion:
• If you are the owner of half or more of the fusion (i.e. 1/2 or 2/3) then you do not need permission from the other owner(s). However, they must be notified either by yourself or someone else and the proof of acknowledgement or at least making a reasonable effort to notify (allowing for the possibility of “ghosting” or the other ignoring the messages) must be shown to me.
As previously mentioned, I had a falling out with my ex-friend and we have each other blocked.  Because of this, obviously they would not have been able to contact me without block evasion (which they do anyway lol), but they still could have had someone else approach me to discuss voiding the fusion and gotten a response, as per the voiding rules.  However, I guess they chose not to bother doing that and instead just requested the void, sent a DM to me by means of block evasion, and showed that DM as "proof" to the species owner since the rules allow for that shallow level of communication to pass as "good enough."
It's unfortunate, because had I been informed about the desire to void the fusion, I absolutely would have been on board with the voiding given the circumstances and would have had no problems accepting it and deleting the design immediately.  My main issue is that I was not informed until after the fact by the wording of the DM I received ("is now voided" instead of "is going to be voided").
Tumblr media
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/489582505989767169/929043838696292362/quell_void.png
Now, here's why I have an issue with the situation:  Saying that permission isn't required from both parties is an extremely risky move because if the fusion design is commissioned by User A, and then person B decides down the line they don't want the fusion to exist anymore (be it due to a falling out or just for purposely ill intent), based on this experience I had, Person B can seemingly just go to Ausp-ice and request the voiding, show proof that a message was sent saying "so yeah I voided our fusion lol bye" and Person A is now out the money they spent on the commissioned design without being given a chance to fight against Person B's actions.
To add onto that, since the $35 voiding fee apparently doesn't apply to fusions, this opens the door for scams and other potential problems to arise because the person doing the voiding doesn't have to pay anything, doesn't need the other person's permission, and therefore loses nothing in the exchange other than maybe getting kicked for poor behavior after enough repeats.
The $35 voiding fee was already a poor decision to implement, but the fact that the species owner also willingly allows fusion designs to be voided without gaining consent from all involved parties doesn't feel very secure or trustworthy, especially when there may be monetary exchange involved in the fusion's creation.
TL;DR:  Be very careful co-owning fusions in the Edeia species because apparently any fusion design you co-own can be voided without your permission and you may not know until it's already done/after the fact.

With shit like the dookie painting species, i just think... why not take your ocs as your own property, whatre they gonna do? Blacklist you in a species you dont want and have to explain its because they tried to rob you for full ownership of something you already bought?
post related
there's nothing they can do without coming off worse. at best they can blacklist you and try to slander your name but likely you and others have been burnt by them and can make a callout on their shitty practice, since that's not the behavior a respectable species should have. at worst they try revoking your characters which is grounds for immediate callout as they have no grounds to do so especially if they do so without compensation. it's not their property anymore, they sold it. The initial design concept is theirs, but the actual character is yours.
stand your fucking ground, don't let cs bully you
