an eden!crowziraphale fic in which the serpent decides to spend a little bit more time in the garden after he sees an angel eat as the humans do.
title: the line between heaven and earth is a grass blade
author: skellowmare
rating: T
word count: 8k
summary: ‘When was the first time you ate a fruit?’
‘I was in the pomegranate grove. I was—well, I’d wanted to see the tree of knowledge, actually. And a pomegranate fell from one of the trees. And I just looked at it, and thought—I thought it would be a pity to just leave it there. It had cracked when it fell. And I just—I wanted to understand what all of this is for. So I ate it.’
I loved writing this fic and I'm so happy to finally post it. adam and eve were more prevalent than I expected them to be, and I absolutely adore being in crowley's head. hope you enjoy <3

Michael posted absolutely beautiful and cute Aziraphale! :) Is it from Season 2? :)
The room looks that it could be Heaven? :)
The shapes of what Michael hidden looks like shapes of wings, the wings in S1 have been done by CGI - actors wore green sticks with balls - so here either Michael is wearing those or it is a misdirection :).
His clothes tho - there are a couple of parts that are not completely hidden:
We see that he is certainly wearing something white.
This part is quite interesting:
It looks a bit threadbare, similare to the Eden Aziraphale’s clothes
Could this be a Let-There-Be-Light-Aziraphale? :)

Obviously, I'm not over Aziraphale's sword.
I was watching the scene in Heaven when Aziraphale finally confesses he had given away his sword and a phrase catched my eyes (well, more my ears).
But, before discussing the phrase, you have to enjoy the peak comedy of the scene:
"Aziraphale. Aziraphale... Why is that name so familiar?"
(come on, that's the same expression a kid would do in the same situation, especially if the list of mischievous things is long.)
(his face is just screaming "oh, no! It's over!")
(the best 6 [thousand] years old caught with his hand in the cookie jar)
(it's not your fault? How!?!?)
That's what picked my curiosity.
She?
Do you mean God, Aziraphale?
How was She having a very bad day?
So I looked back and asked myself: when did She gave him the sword?
Oh, God directly gave him the sword? Or is it a sort of "I asked somebody to give it to you?"
In my opinion, She directly gave the sword.
Oh, the sword was gifted for Eden. To guard it.
I wonder if there were other angels to guard Eden and if they had other swords or weapons.
So, She gave the sword to him after the Fall and the War against the Rebels.
"She was having a very bad day"
If Aziraphale was referring to the Fall and the War, "a very bad day" is the understatement of the millennium (or the whole six millennia).
I got the feeling that Aziraphale didn't want the sword but you can't refuse God, especially when She is not in Her best mood.
It's amazing how on Aziraphale decides to gift the sword, given by God, to the humans.
It would be funny if Aziraphale was referring to Eve with he told "she was having a really bad day".
We already know he cares about her.
And she is looking at him when he is giving the sword
It would be funny if we'll see in the second season the moment when Aziraphale is gifted with the sword.
We know we have Aziraphale in Heaven in the next season.

I swear I could see a hint of chainmail on the neck.
Maybe his battle uniform in the War?
Whatever it is, I swear that I love how the sword is used both for destruction (War) and to save everything (the Them).

It's arguable that the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge is what made humans human. Without it, humans wouldn't have Free Will.
My headcanon is that the closer one comes to eating the fruit, the closer they come to being fully human. And Aziraphale came very close to taking a bite, which is why in this drawing his wings aren't visible.

I’m thinking that the conversation on the wall as the humans made their way away from Eden was a major formative moment for Crowley.
When Crowley says “You’re an angel, I don’t think you CAN do the wrong thing,” he is absolutely yanking Aziraphale’s chain. The book explicitly says it’s sarcasm and in the show, David Tennant’s delivery makes that clear with his smirk and sneery tone.
But when Aziraphale innocently takes the comment at face value, Crowley lets him think it was sincere. It’s his first act of kindness toward Aziraphale. My reading is that Crowley is happily surprised that an angel would allow himself to be comforted by his words and it takes away his desire to tease. He got his first little taste of doing good AND HE LIKED IT!
That interaction is perhaps the first time Crowley realized that he’s not necessarily cut out for sowing misery.
Also, consider his shock at Aziraphale’s admission.
Crowley was told to come to Eden and make trouble so he did. He doesn’t seem to have thought about it at all, just got an order and executed it. What if learning that Aziraphale has given his sword away is the thing that makes Crowley realize that he, too, can make his own unexpected decisions.
It was Crowley that gave free will to the humans, but maybe it was Aziraphale that made Crowley realize that he could also have free will. Even though Aziraphale hasn’t embraced his free will, he has perhaps just given Crowley the impetus he needed to do so.
And later, Crowley returned the favor when he explained about going along as much as you can. That was painful for Aziraphale but helped him to be more himself. It was a moment when he realized, like Crowley on the wall, that if doing good means breaking the rules sometimes, then sometimes that’s what must be done. In his guilt and fear, he didn’t put that together in Eden, but Crowley showed him at Uz.
Anyway, I’m rambling, but these two have made each other better, and happier, since the world existed and that’s just lovely.
