Philippine Heritage Society Ball and 2022 Filipino Heritage Awards a testament to the beauty and richness of our Filipino Heritage
Proud to be Filipino!
Tumblr media
What a night of celebrating Filipino music, Filipino Heritage and all things Filipino!  All roads led to the Fiesta Pavilion of the historic Manila Hotel last July 25 for the Philippine Heritage Society Ball and 2022 Filipino Heritage Awards.  Guests arrived at the reception area dressed to the nines in formal Filipiniana and to partake of the unlimited coffee by Curve Coffee Collaborators and cocktails by Destileria Limtuaco.  Special exhibitors lined up the reception area of the hall including media partners Globaltronics/PARC Foundation and Light TV; presenter Greenfield Development Corporation, MX3, Apo View Hotel, Organique,  ….,.The whole area, including the ballroom, was tastefully styled by Carmen Afzelius of Floral Fairy, who used bamboo, anahaw, succulents, sampaguita, capiz shells and other accents to give the entire event an elegant and festive atmosphere.
The red-carpet pre-event was hosted by the fabulous Raymond Villanueva, who interviewed the attendees and guests about their advocacies, views on heritage, and whose creations they were wearing.  Photographers and media personnel snapped away as each guest was being interviewed.
By 7pm, the guests were ushered into the grand ballroom for the main event.  The show was divided into three main portions:  the Heritage Waltz, the Awards ceremony, and the fashion walk titled Harana sa Rampa.
Tumblr media
As the lights dimmed and the announcer called the name of each participant, Philippine Heritage Society members and their partners made their way to the dance floor to dance to “Tanda de Valse”, composed by Jose “Pitong” Ledesma and choreographed by Dalah Pia. The men wore barong tagalog made from local materials like pina while the women wore beautiful designed baro’t saya which swayed gently as the dancers went through their routine. They finished their dance to resounding applause by the appreciative audience.
The awards ceremony was both grand and solemn.  As each awardee walked slowly up the stage to receive their award, the audience was silent in reverence while the announcer listed each awardee’s accomplishments. The awardees present included the owners of Sarao Motors (Awardee for Design), the owners of Aristocrat (Awardee for Service), Lisa Macuja-Elizalde (Awardee for Dance), Attorney Dominador Buhain (Awardee for Publishing), and National Artist Fides Cuyugan Asensio (Awardee for Music).
Dinner was a delight for the senses as Manila Hotel chefs outdid themselves with a tasteful menu of Filipino classics.  Performances by LyrOPERA artists: Randy Gilongo, Calie Ng, Nina Campos (who also emceed), Bernadette Mamauag, Sherine Ann Koa, Eden Dumlao, and the Philippine Tenors, serenaded the guests throughout the evening.
Tumblr media
The fashion walk “Harana sa Rampa” was definitely one of the most anticipated portions of the entire evening.  Exquisite Filipiniana fashions designed by some of the country’s top designers (Oskar Peralta, Edgar Madamba, Edgar San Diego, Ditta Sandico, Peri Diaz, Frankie de Leon, Petra Lim, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Ole Morabe and Lito Perez) were worn by luminaries and fashion icons including Ambassador Vic and Connie Garcia, David and Mache Ackerman, Jennifer Angeles, Malou Brewer, Danda Buhain, Aileen Campos, Tess Castro, Maggie Chavez, Ruby Chua, Joel Cruz and kids, Adrea Endicio, Aileen Garalde, Loubelle Gardiola, Rina Garcia, Genieve Jamisola, Rose Ranola Jordan, Rose Santiago Licup, Cora Lozada, Jessie Maloles, Ann Marie Morales, Mhel Pechera, Genevieve Qui, Minerva Racuya, Charito San Pedro, Michelle Media Sison, Lina Castillo Sullivan, Coco and Chanel Sun, Nikki Tang, Elaine Timbol, Dr. Mary Jane Torres, Flora Urquico, Sophia Yara and Mayor Krisel Lagman.  The models succeeded in showing their clothes elegantly and in the best light while they were being serenaded to kundiman classics like Mutya ng Pasig, Ang Maya, Maalaala mo kaya, etc. performed by LyrOPERA singers.
The evening ended with a grand toast wishing everyone a bright future led by PHS founder Sherwin Sozon with fellow founders Tess Castro, Nathan de Leon and PHS Committee Chairperson Mache Torres Ackerman.
Overall the Philippine Heritage Society Ball and 2022 Filipino Heritage Awards were a testament to the beauty and richness of our Filipino Heritage.  Mabuhay!

All of the best 2018 Met Gala looks
The Met Gala has long been known as fashion’s biggest night. But this year, it’s fashion’s most controversial as well.
On Monday evening, all of Hollywood’s biggest stars and fashion influencers took to the carpeted red stairs of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the Costume Institute’s latest exhibit. This year, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination explores the intersection of the sartorial and sacred. In the exhibit curated by Andrew Bolton, pieces from the Vatican and design houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and more will be on display. However, on the red carpet, a variety of celebs are wearing their own interpretation on the religious theme.
Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace are 2018’s co-hosts of the event alongside Anna Wintour. Other A-list attendees include Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, and Ashley Graham.
Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for nonstop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day.

Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez On What’s Changed in Fragrance In The Last Ten Years
Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez’s Perfumes: A–Z appeared in 2008 in what was then a fragrance criticism wasteland, where it quickly elevated the analysis and rating of scent to a high art on par with any five-star perfume. Funny, unforgiving and totally memorable, the book became the definitive fragrance lover’s bible. Ten years later the authors’ have released an updated version, Perfumes: The Guide, which, now with 1,200 reviews including many new niche perfumes, still delights with its zingy one-liners and encyclopedic coverage. But don’t take it from us, read it and weep (with joy). Case in point: the authors’ description of a certain luxury brand perfume as the “fragrance equivalent of a Motel 6.”

Book 2: Luca Turin & Tania Sanchez – Perfumes the guide 2018 • the essential perfume read, insightful, witty and though we disagree on some scents a fun read. #book2 #lucaturin #taniasanchez #perfumestheguide2018

Fashion recently had the chance ask Turin and Sanchez about the current state of the industry:
What’s changed since Perfumes: A–Z?
LT: The past ten years have seen the rise of two completely different kinds of perfumery: niche, now largely subsumed by acquisition into big brands and chiefly designed to maximize profits; and artisan perfumery, done by both trained and untrained perfumers. The range of fragrance types has widened as a result, which is a very good thing. The downside is swill sold at outrageous prices.
TS: I hadn’t expected artisanal perfumery to get so big so fast. I was surprised at how tenacious the oud trend turned out to be. “Natural” perfumes have come such a long way that many can now be recommended not just as “good for a natural perfume” but good, full-stop. So many of the copycat fancy sub-lines put out by big brands were risible disappointments, so I was cheered to smell the Lancôme premium line and even to be able to give one a five-star review. On the other hand, I always have high expectations of [NAME OF MAJOR BRAND KNOWN FOR ICONIC SCENTS], and I was looking forward to [BIG LAUNCH FROM 2017]. It was vile.
What perfumes inspire you now?
TS : I loved the dreamy, idiosyncratic scents from Satori. The highly original art direction of Zoologist Perfumes has been delightful to follow. In 2008, we didn’t even include the Lush perfumes, and now they are one of our favourites. The new reissue of Iris Gris was done by a young duo right out of perfumery school whose version beat out some industry veterans in a blind test. That put me in a good mood for weeks.
Have you ever changed your mind about a perfume?
LT: Cacharel’s Eden and Paco Rabanne’s La Nuit, both masterpieces I had misunderstood.
TS: I regret not giving five stars to Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, Chanel No. 19, and Robert Piguet’s Baghari. All got four stars instead. I was too timid.
Who writes well about perfume?
LT: I pay attention to Claire Vukcevic’s perceptive analyses and the intensely detailed descriptions on Kafkaesque. The absolute best short, poetic descriptions come from @illicium.verum on Instagram.
TS: Even though some of the people I like the most are perfume bloggers, I don’t read much about perfume. While I subscribe to Perfumer & Flavorist, it’s mainly for the pleasure of deleting their emails unread.
If you could pick just one, what would be your true (perfume) love?
LT: Auphorie’s Miyako is the greatest thing I currently own.
TS: I don’t have to so I won’t.
