"The Tell-Tale Heart"
Okay so I want to preface this that I have not read much Edgar Allen Poe so I will be missing those layers in my perspective, but anyways something that really struck me in "The Tell-Tale Heart" episode of The Fall of The House of Usher was the moments after Victorine throws the book end at Ali.
Before this, we're presented with this version of Victorine who may be stressed and pressured but ultimately does not actively appear to be amoral. She's just being put in a bad position by her shit father; she wants to do good and develop a life-saving medical device, and she just has to cut corners to stay afloat. It's only Camille who seems convinced Victorine is some awful person.
Tumblr media
Then, the bookend. Another cut corner. Instead of talking things out with Ali or being patient, she acts impulsively and immediately to stop the problem. It's just like the first time she dosed the chimpanzee with epinephrine during surgery in a panic when she realized the device wasn't working. She hits Ali in the head and, on realizing the severity of her actions, runs over to her.
Ali is bleeding out on the floor, her body writhing horribly and she lets out these awful choked noises. Victorine goes to her and seems immediately horrified and brokenhearted. Then, the security guard checks in through the door. The guard is concerned over the scuffling noises overheard.
And Victorine fucking says to him, "Have you never heard a woman getting eaten out before?"
Her girlfriend is dying by her hand, and she pretends the sounds of her dying are the noises of sexual pleasure. This to me is the reveal, this is when the audience truly sees that Victorine does not have and never had a heart. The love she's shown, for her passion, her girlfriend, her device, is nothing more than mistaken greed. It's a mechanical heartbeat, it sounds almost like a heartbeat, but it's a pale imitation to anyone who pays attention. And like with Ali's corpse, the mechanical heart of Victorine is just keeping a soulless body alive.
The Fall of the House of Usher structurally represents the family itself: it begins with the announcement of the deaths of all the children. The children are dead from the beginning of the show. And as Annabel points out, the children in the story were dead from the start, killed by greed and wealth. And then we learn that they were literally dead, as Roderick and Madeline had already sold their lives for wealth before they were even born. We're not seeing the family die, we're seeing the final moments of corpses decomposing. We're seeing the dilapidated house finally collapse. The Fall of the House of Usher is not about death, it's about the walking dead, like the visions of Roderick. A family kept alive with a mechanical device just going through the motions.

I think fall of the house of usher is easily one of the best Flanagan shows, I’ll rant about the themes and phenomenal casting and more eventually but I love how he structured the show as a bunch of Edgar Allen Poe homages linked together in an And Then There Were None-esque sequence (8 episodes, one of his children dies at the end of each of the six middle episodes, beautiful structure). You know where it’s going but it keeps you holding on and wanting to know how and why!!!

A. Z. Fell & Co. bookshop and its statues
To start off, you have to be warned that the former set was almost completely destroyed in the S1 bookshop fire and whatever wasn’t important enough to be salvaged before the shooting had to be replaced afterwards. Which means that a few memorable and already identified pieces aren’t there anymore, for better or worse.
This is going to be another long analysis, and certainly not a full one — I’ll describe only the big picture and the most important props. A continuation focusing on the decorations in the less prominent parts of the bookshop will follow here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right at the entrance we can see twin tables with the Marly Horses by Guillaume Coustou the Elder. The sculptures showing two rearing horses with their groom were originally commissioned by Louis XV of France for the entrance to château de Marly, a royal residence near Versailles.
In S2 Crowley is shown consistently using one of the horses, partially out of convenience, partially in line with a returning throughout the season dark horse theme. Ironically, the symbolic harnessing of a wild animal mirrors the supposed domestication of the demon by his angel, as seen in the transformation of the statue to the right from the entrance into an altar of his submission.
After all, there’s nothing more vulnerable to Crowley than losing the usual protection of his shades, and using a horse sculpture as a stand for his sunglasses speaks volumes about his natural aptitude towards uncertain and liminal states. He thrives in stress situations, dangles his feet while hopping onto a curb, and assumes the form of a non-Euclidean fluid when asked to sit down in a chair. Stability isn’t exactly what he’s most comfortable with. So what for Aziraphale signifies the power over his (theirs?) own domain and ultimate safe space, for Crowley means a challenge.
It makes sense that this particular spot near the exit is where the demon feels most secure in the bookshop, his favorite place in the world. That’s where he stood after crossing its threshold in 1941 too.
Tumblr media
The statue in the middle, right on top of the central bookstand, was replaced after the S1 fire. It’s still clearly a Cupid, but in a different pose and without his weapons — instead of shooting an arrow, now he’s holding his left hand over his head, pointing up towards Heaven or God. Quite a change. This is the most similar copy made after Ernest Rancoulet. The butterfly-like wings (similar to the ones Rancoulet used in his La Nuit Tout Repose, At Night Everything Rests) on the copy in the bookshop have visible screws, so they were probably added either by the previous owner or the Good Omens art department.
What’s especially important from the analytic point of view is that similarly to S1, the Cupid in question still appears in the frame facing Crowley, but not targeting him anymore, like it used to, but rather mirroring. The most memorable example appears during the Final Fifteen™ when the demon points up with left hand to highlight his “No nightingales” line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one will be fun! Everyone, meet George Maxim’s bronze allegory of Music in her full glory. Angels like music in general, right? And Aziraphale is a known audiophile, which was asserted in the very first episode of the new season. But there’s another link to music in his angelic roots. A rather apocalyptic one — the Archangel Raphael is believed to blow the trumpet from a holy rock in Jerusalem to announce the Second Coming (the Day of Resurrection), and Israfil, its Islamic counterpart, Qiyamah (the Day of Judgment).
Staying in the very same context, let’s read the ballad Israfel by Edgar Allen Poe, which was obviously inspired by the titular Archangel.
Nothing on Earth lasts forever — but that’s exactly the reason why we should use it for inspiration, savor this momentary bliss, and hold it in our hearts. The ballad shares the same sentiment about all creation being temporary and only the passions of angels (i.e., Aziraphale’s and Crowley’s feelings) staying eternally unchanging as Aziraphale’s “Nothing lasts forever”. His line was intended as an affirmation of his feelings, similar to “You go too fast for me, Crowley”.
And just like the Cupid is mirroring Crowley in the “No nightingales” line, Music is targeting Aziraphale with her harp in the following frame.
Tumblr media
On the counter there’s a smaller bronze statue, which original unfortunately remains unidentified, but I was able to track some similar designs. A woman coming back from the harvest with crops — either a representation of Autumn or the Greek goddess Demeter bringing a blessing of a plentiful harvest. In the Bible, the harvest is a metaphor for both spiritual fruitfulness and judgment. Our productivity in God’s kingdom is supposedly tied to our faith and obedience. And the most popular verses repeat an even older saying, how one reaps what they sow:
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8)
And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” (Revelation 14:15)
The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. (Jeremiah 8:20)
If you read The summer that was never supposed to end meta, you’ll interpret the figure itself as a rather ominous sign. Now let’s add to it positioning right next to the gigantic Victorian cash register one cannot possibly overlook and the recurring theme of payment. And the fact that it conveniently disappears at some point in The Ball (S02E05) episode, never to be seen again. Is the payment reminder not needed anymore, because its day just came?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For some reason ever since S1 this one was often interpreted as a bust of Alexander the Great by the fandom. The proper name is the Head of a Victorious Athlete, also known as Benevento Head. As this suggests, the originally bronze sculpture represents a victorious athlete wearing an olive crown and was found near Benevento in Italy, in the remnants of the ancient town Herculaneum, wiped off from the face of the earth together with Pompeii in a tragic volcanic eruption (which was conveniently used later on as a more modern example of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah). It’s an obviously Roman copy of a Greek sculpture and dates back to 50 AD, less than a decade after Aziraphale and Crowley met in Rome in 41 AD— who knows, maybe they were still around at the time? This would make an interesting connection to the statue Crowley brought back to his apartment in 1941.
And no, in the HD quality and especially en face it doesn’t appear similar to Crowley. In fact, there seems to be a very good reason why most photographers choose another, more flattering angle for this particular artwork. But aesthetics aside, the white bust seems more like a mirror for Aziraphale and his self-constructed (and self-imposed) idealized image, based on a specific set of virtues. The presented athlete is victorious because he’s the epitome of the Platonic Triad of higher Forms: Truth, Beauty, and Excellence, understood in the wider context of the Greek Aretē.
To highlight this point, in S1 the head was literally used as a designated display place of the medal Aziraphale got as a commendation for his 6000 years on Earth in the 1800 cut scene. As a free agent not affiliated with Heaven in S2 he doesn’t hang it there anymore, but the medal is still in the bookshop, visible on his desk. You can see it in detail and read the description of its provenance in the last bookshop meta.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daedalus and Icarus are a very popular motif in the history of art, but certainly not in this overtly masculine, military style. Icarus was too ambitious for his own good and ignored explicit instructions, which constitutes both the sin of pride and that of disobedience to one's parents (or one’s Creator?).
Interestingly, there’s also a version of the myth in which Icarus fashioned himself greater than Helios, the Sun himself, and the god himself punished him for it with the fall — which resonates very strongly with my vision of Crowley both in relation to his Fall and potential S3 development.
But back to Aziraphale. If the medal in question was given to him as a commendation he from the Supreme Archangel himself, it also serves as a warning for him to not get too arrogant or comfortable with his accomplishment (i.e., life on Earth) or it might lead to his fall (or, in this case, Fall).
Foreshadowing much?

Is the Pendulum Nightclub a reference to I am in Eskew? I'm really sorry if this has been answered before or if having the same name as the nightclub in Eskew is just a coincidence. I only just noticed it. I hope you have a good day though! I haven't caught up with the current episodes yet so I have no malice, just admiration and expectation for the episodes that make people scream
@thesiltverses you and me, two Edgar Allen Poe aficionados caught red-handed stealing references out of the fridge at night

Yeah no, Pluto definitely did not die from suicide. At least, I don’t think so.
The world of Nevermore is very, very influenced by Edgar Allen Poe. For example, Prospero. In the original Edgar Allen Poe short story “The Masque of Red Death”, he was a prince, which could explain how prim and proper he acts in Nevermore, and he died from the Red Death, which at the beginning of the story is stated to be a plague. I wonder whose spectre is a plague doctor. Also, Fortunato, Duke’s stage name, was a character in the short story The Cask of Amontillado, who dies from being trapped in a wall. Sounds familiar? Anyways, my point is, a lot of names and deaths and details are inspired directly from Edgar Allen Poe.
Now, Pluto. Our beloved British catboy. Coincidentally, the name of a cat from my favorite Edgar Allen Poe story; The Black Cat.
The Black Cat is not one of the cuter stories of Edgar Allen Poe’s works. It starts with a man; he loves animals and finds a wife who loves animals too, and they both adopt a plethora of animals together. One of them in particular takes a liking to the man: a black cat, named Pluto.
The man’s life begins to go downhill when he starts becoming an alcoholic. He begins to abuse his animals just for the perverseness of it, and he becomes a lot more mean-spirited than the person he was before. One day, he comes home, and thinks that Pluto is ignoring him. In his annoyance, he forcibly picks up the cat, causing the cat to bite him slightly on the finger. This small inconvenience causes the man to become so enraged that, in his anger, he takes a knife, and gouges out Pluto’s eye.
Obviously, after this, the cat is positively terrified of the man. He avoids him as much as possible, but after about a week, it seems his eye injury has healed and is doing him no harm.
Then, just for the pleasure that doing the wrong thing gives him, one morning, the man takes it upon himself to finish the deed and hangs the poor car in cold blood.
That’s the end of the relevant section. If you want to know the rest of the story, I would recommend reading it-just search up The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe online and you can easily find it for free.
Anyways, what does this have to do with our beloved Nevermore Pluto?
Well, besides from the obvious similarities that Pluto shares with the Edgar Allen Poe cat, what stood out to me the most was the nature of the man. In episode whatchamacallitimtootiredtofinditrightnow, it is revealed the Pluto’s father is an alcoholic. Not only that, but enraged that Pluto wants to leave home and see the lights, he gouges out his son’s eye. Again, very close to the story. I wonder what the man did next to Pluto in that story?
I suppose it could be implied suicide due to the fact it was awakened in Pluto when he felt relieved, but remember in the story how Pluto’s eye injury had finally healed before the man killed him? It may be a far cry, but I believe that Pluto could have finally thought he was free from his father and that he made it out of his house before his father found him again and hung him. Finally relieved before it is yanked away from him. After all, that’s what he did in the story, and when he experienced the flashback of his death, he didn’t think or feel the thoughts of a relieved suicidal person (as memories of the time seem to slightly return during those flashbacks), but rather panic and fear, which would be odd if it was a suicide that made him feel finally relieved.
Also, he died wanting to go beyond the binds of society and what humanity deems is possible. If he had such a strong dream that he absolutely wanted to make happen, even present while dying, why would he kill himself and destroy his opportunity?
Honestly, I would also find it odd at this point if that wasn’t what happened. After all, the authors have been very accurate to the poems and stories of Edgar Allen Poe for the characters ripped from them. Again, Prospero and Duke, Eulalie has lavender eyes as described in her poem, and Berenice has a very heavy teeth theme like in her story. Not only that, but after following the story of the Black Cat for so long in Pluto’s backstory, I would find it odd if they changed the one thing that both Plutos were killed by if they were so accurate with Duke.
But who knows?
Perhaps I ramble like a madwoman.

Clone high season 2 episode concepts that would've actually been fun/cool
Abe tries to get into "real magic" to impress Joan by hanging out with Aleister Crowley and Arthur Conan Doyle. Jokes about people being too into Harry Potter being lame, jokes about paranormal teen shows a la Sabrina, etc.
Ronald Reagan and Nixon gets JFK into presidential themed crypto
Mean Girls episode parody about the Salem Witch trials or Bloody Queen Mary. They write themselves.
Episode where the main cast keep finding dead bodies, basically tripping over them, parody of teen murder mysteries, twist ending that the bodies are all failed/early clones (like the clone equivalent of a stillbirth. there was no murder)
Yellow Jackets Parody episode. the bus is out of gas or something and they're stuck in a large parking lot but act like they're in the woods.
Traveling championship episode. Debate team has to compete against high school where all the students are robots programmed to behave like the greatest scientists/leaders of all time
Trans episode parody. Abe realizes he isn't aligned with the modern republican party anymore and is therefore a Democrat, treated as a self-aware bad analogy maybe to the point of other characters finding it tasteless/annoying/Abe looking for attention
Cyberbullying episode parody, bonus points if it's gossip girl
Secret cousin/twin parody episode --- obvious starting point would be like. Anastasia because of how many people famously claimed to be her.
Supernatural teen romance parody episode. Abe tries to become a vampire with like Edgar Allen Poe or someone to impress Joan.
"Save the community center" episode --- This could be a great Harriet focused episode about like a bake sale or something to fund the arts but everyone is over exaggerating the stakes and the drama of being/not being a good baker. "My grandmother used to bake these cookies for me.....until she DIED" "My mother baked these cookies for me everyday I was in the hospital after falling out of that helicopter and they gave me the strength to survive" "I can't bake....my mom was always too busy with her business to teach me....." etc.
Big Mouth/Sex Ed parody episode. I think it would be really funny if THIS had been their technology episode, like getting a computer virus is treated like getting a STD and the cast talk about browsing the internet like it's casual sex, etc.
parody of those tasteless episodes about how like bullying leads to school shootings. Have like Abe or Joan or someone try to reach out to Napoleon or someone because they eat alone at lunch and because they think it's silly and mean everyone is afraid of them but then they are just like a violent maniac already. the solution is to get rid of him.
this might sound dumb but remember that one episode of jimmy neutron where jimmy was banned from the science fair for being too smart and killing the morale of any other student interested in participating? What if Clone High did that but as like a parody of anti-trans sports legislation. All the cloned scientists are banned from the science fair because it's an unfair advantage. All the Politian clones are banned from debate club, etc.
Social media/parasocial relationships parody episode where like JFK and Abe become obsessed with one another's online accounts not knowing it's them, despite Joan repeatedly telling them this, it becomes completely unhealthy but then whenever they do hang out together face-to-face they hate it and decide the parasocial relationship was better actually.
PRANK YOUTUBE/TIKTOK PARODY EPISODE ABOUT DB COOPER AND HOUDINI COME ON COME ON COME ON THIS ONE IS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS

I’m not quite done with it but I want to give major props to Mike flannigan and the writers of the fall of the house of usher. The way the we’re able to base every story every Death off of something Edgar Allen poe wrote, and the way you can tell what’s gonna happen early in the episode if you know the story is just amazing.
It took me an episode or two in (granted that’s when I truly started paying attention) to realize what he was doing and it clicked once I saw the episode titles for Masque of the Red Death and Telltale heart as those are two stories I’m familiar with.
The foreshadowing he puts for each siblings death in the episode prior, and the way each story is written is just beautiful. Once I had figured it bout I knew immediately the brick wall was a cask of Amontillado situation and now watching the first part of the final episode I for certain know whose behind it.
Just… this is me massively nerding out over the writing and theme of this show so if you haven’t watched The Fall of the House of Usher yet and you can handle some jumpscares, gore, and strobing lights I highly suggest it
Also: Julius was my favorite man didn’t deserve the drama that family gave him

Update (4/01/24)
What I'm Into Now
BSD (Characters: Dazai Osamu, Nakajima Atsushi)
JJK (Characters: Gojo Satoru, Getou Suguru)
Progress Update
JJK x BSD: Thinking about a crossover??? Still ironing out the base details
JJK Transcripts: Finally doing work on episode two for the transcripts, currently about 10 minutes in
Fic Recs
Hello! Welcome back! As finals season approaches, my energy and time available to write dwindles. At least I'm enjoying my English project. I'm writing about genre in fanfiction. I'm going to be using the BSD fandom as an example simply because I want to make my professor read about famous dead authors who've been yassified and given superpowers. I am absolutely going to mention how Edgar Allen Poe was turned into a twink. I will let y'all know how that goes :) Have a great week, and I'll see y'all next Monday!

A Raccoon and a Child
Just binged the S5 BSD episodes and noticed that Karl wasn’t with Poe while Ranpo gathered of the agency members (for obvious reasons) so what if he entrusted him to watch over little (Reader) in the office?
—————————————————————————
(Reader) was practicing her English, courtesy of her teacher, with the help of Karl flipping back to the page on how to pronounce the particular letter every now and then while Poe talked on the phone. He hung up suddenly and started to put his coat on, “Karl, (Reader), I’m going out for a bit. Please stay here and don’t leave until I get back.” The raccoon understood immediately, but the girl did not. “Why isn’t Karl going with you?” “I just can’t have Karl come with for it to work. If the anyone comes, press the button to call for Mr.Fitzgerald under my desk. Even though he can be scary, he’ll take care of them for you. I have to go now.” The worried child ran over and gave her father a hug goodbye before he left.
And so this left her and a raccoon to finish her homework. However, as many of us know, once the parents/teachers are gone, it’s very easy to get distracted. As the two watched Poe walk out of the building through the office’s glass exterior, (Reader) glanced at Karl and offered, “Tell dad I did my science homework and I’ll ‘accidentally’ add the good food to his cart”
Karl checked off ‘study unit 4 of science’
This is where the chaos began to unfold…as we all know, kids are curious beings and (Reader) is no exception to that. She immediately went over to her dad’s desk and started opening drawers, “He has to have a drawer with candy if he’s friends with Uncle Ranpo! There’s gotta be one!” She peeked up onto his desk, “Dad’s new mystery? I should ask if I can proofread it later.” Karl started tugging on the end of her shirt. The nosy girl sighed, “You’re right…it’s probably in his coat.” She made sure to cover her tracks and go back to where she originally sat.
There was a slight pause of silence before the girl let out a sigh, “it’s boring without dad here.” Karl tried thinking of ways to entertain the girl other than hopping on her shoulders, but as far as a raccoon’s knowledge about human activities goes, it’s not all too far. He sat down and stuck out his paws so it was as if he had be knocked onto his butt. (Reader) perked up, “Do you wanna play Avocado? Miss Louisa taught me it the other day!” She walked Karl through each hand movement carefully and did the pattern in the song slowly with him before starting, it went for a about a minute cuz he’s a smart raccoon before young (Reader) messed up! “Nooo!!! Now you get to change my name for the day! Wait, you’re a raccoon, you can’t change my name cuz you don’t know a-“ Karl took one of her markers and wrote A-I from her vowels page, also a name that appeared in one of her father’s books as one of the killers. (Reader), now named Ai for the day, looked at the paper surprised, “I’m asking dad for help from now on.” Then the girl opened up her iPad and started working her own mystery novel.
About an hour later, loud noises were heard from outside the office. This caught the girl’s attention, should she call for Mr.Fitzgerald? Karl sensed her unease and hopped onto her shoulder. After approaching the door, everything went silent and (Reader) recalled her father’s words, ‘if anyone comes, press the button to call for Mr.Fitzgerald under my desk.’ She backed up towards her father’s desk right before everything went silent. ‘Maybe she and Karl were safe…’ the hopeful girl thought, but she couldn’t be more wrong as the door was kicked open.
The second the door slammed into the wall, the small child spammed the button. A voice called out, “Come out Edgar Allen Poe! You have been suspected of aiding in the recent terrorist activities! Check everywhere men! Behind the desks, behind the curtains, leave no nook unturned!” Meanwhile Reader clung to Karl with tears in her eyes underneath the desk, ‘Why now? If they find us, it’ll be harder on dad.’
As she finished her thought, one of the officers looked under the desk and found them. “Hey Captain! I found a kid and this raccoon, I bet we could use them as hostages if he tries to run.” Upon hearing that, something sparked in (Reader), “You’ll never catch dad cuz he’s way smarter than you! He knows the detective agency is innocent, Uncle Ranpo would never…Auntie Yosano wouldn’t…”
The Captain of the squadron scoffed at this, “A kid like you doesn’t even understand how serious this is; what would YOU know about what they would and wouldn’t do?” He laughed after finishing his question. (Reader)’s stare sharpened, though remnants of fear were still blatantly visible, “More than you officers who arrest according to your robotic like judgement. I’m seven years old, I was studying before you came in and now you’re gonna take dad away and probably Karl. I wish you all would just disappear somewhere!”
Ting!
With the utter of those words, our little (Reader)’s special ability reveals itself and sends them to the sweet shop she really wanted to go to since playing Avocado with Karl. Finally, Francis arrives and finds the office ransacked, “I’m not here to clean up after your mess.” “No! The police were here! They wanna arrest my dad! You just got here a little bit late” The blonde sighed, “I’ll send someone to fix this and have a conversation with their commander. Send my apologies to your father when you get the chance.” The girl agreed and apologized for wasting his time before Francis left.
(Reader) picked up Karl to look him into the eye and spun him around. “I have an ability! And it’s a cool one that could help people AND let me spend more time with Uncle Ranpo!” She stopped spinning and set the poor raccoon down, “I wonder where they went though? Did I kill them? Why did it only just now work? I wish for snacks!” The snacks did not appear. After a few tries, the girl gave up and moved onto math homework since her dad would probably be getting back soon and about 3 problems in, she turned to Karl and asked, “Hey Karl, why do I have to solve these? Why can’t my homework just solve itself?” Once the thought was finished, her pencil began glowing a light purple and solving the problems on its own. Karl whacked the awestruck girl for cheating and the pencil dropped halfway through the fifth problem, so she rubbed the spot and turned to him asking, “What? I was just using my resources! Dad always tells me to do that.”
Speak of the devil, the confused soul opened his broken door to his mostly fixed office, who knows what happened to the papers on the desk after the attack… “I heard from Mr.Fitzgerald about what happened, are you two al- oof!” Poe was immediately hugged by his daughter and Karl jumped off her shoulder onto his making him smile and hug back. The small girl spoke up, “hey dad?” The poet hummed, “promise me you’ll never leave me here for too long again?” The novelist didn’t want to make any promises he couldn’t keep because Ranpo can make some rather time extensive and dangerous requests at times, but he also doesn’t want his daughter to worry. “Once the agency is proven innocent, I can make that promise to you.” “…Ok, I trust you and Uncle Ranpo.”
Poe went over to his desk to try and get things back in order. “Oh, How are your studies coming along?” (Reader) froze up at this question and dismissed it before Karl could out her earlier antics, but he did anyway. Her father looked surprised at the very idea that his daughter would consider cheating, “How? Did you use a website? Do I need to take away your iPad? Wait, no, I have to take away your iPad as punishment.” Karl went over and grabbed it for him since he was already sitting down, but the only thing on Reader’s mind was sharing her ability with her dad. “I have a special ability!” This was the last thing he expected to hear from his formerly ability-less daughter. “T-that’s great news! But what is it? Is it like mine or the Boss’s?” “Kinda? I think I have to know stuff for it to work. When the police were here for you, I said I wish they would disappear somewhere and they did, then I asked Karl why my math homework couldn’t solve itself and it did until he made me stop it.” Poe paused to think for a moment, ‘A spatial ability that alters the state of reality according to the user’s knowledge of what they’re altering. That’s a dangerous ability to entrust to someone so young. It may be good to let Ranpo know about it, but there’s no guarantee she’d be able to use it when Ranpo wants her to or at the capacity he would need.’ He was snapped out of his thoughts by light taps on his desk. It was his daughter wondering if she was supposed to have a better ability. He reassured her, hers was more than a great ability, but (Reader) should keep quiet about its existence for now
—————————————————————————
Tumblr media
(Reader) officially has an ability that could probably stop the war and like, half the trauma from traumatizing us if used correctly, but oh no! She’s seven! That’s no place for a girl her age.

Hello! With finishing Hogwarts Legacy recently, I wanted to draw my mc, Raven Fawlty. Used Procreate to draw her, and I'm super happy with how she turned out. ✨🌙
More of my art on instagram, @artof.ravnbee and on DeviantArt @artof-ravnbee ! Thanks everyone🦅
Tumblr media
General Info
Name: Raven Fawlty - { reason for her name for me } “Ravens” often represents ancient wisdom, transformation and intelligence. The name “Raven” means “dark haired or wise”. “Fawlty”… honestly this was a gimmick at first. As I love the show, Fawlty Towers with John Cleese. Ran in the 70s, with only a handful of episodes, but it was hilarious and it was the first name I could think of when creating my character.

History
Place of birth: Somewhere in the UK
Childhood: Grew up in orphanage in London. Doesn’t know who her parents are, or her real name. She has a love for literature and took the name “Raven” after Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, The Raven. The orphanage she resided in was very strict and had a harsh living environment. The caretaker was mean to the children, much like a Miss Hannigan from the show Annie. So much so, that is how Raven acquired her last name “Fawlty”. A homonym for “faulty”, meaning of faults, inadequate, or wrong. (Which is also why the show, Fawlty Towers, got its name too.) Unknowingly to be a future Ravenclaw, took the insult of a name as a challenge to succeed and learn all she could and be the best version of herself.
Family history: Her father originally from South America and went to Castelobruxo, a wizarding school in Brazil. Being from the heart of the Amazon rain forest, he had a profound love for magical creatures. Which is where Raven gets her love for magical creatures as well. He had traveled all over the world and eventually made his way to Europe where he met Raven’s mother, was also traveling abroad as well. She had also attending Hogwarts in her youth, being a former Ravenclaw too. She loved astronomy and literature. It is unknown what happened to her parents, tho in my head canon they have since passed. **Keep in mind, Raven herself doesn’t know this. I just wanted to write this down to know where she gets her personality and interests come from ☺️**
Notable events/milestones: Raven always knew somehow.. she was different. Though, according to the wizarding world’s standards, it took a little longer for her powers to emerge. Even small things would happen here and there, without her realizing what had happen and that she was the cause of such strange occurrences. Until one day when the orphan keeper (the person who runs the orphanage) was “disciplining” one of the children and Raven stepped in to protect them and that enough was enough. She had forced a large shelf to fall over onto the orphan keeper… it was as if what she was thinking became a reality. Afraid of what would happen, Raven ran away, seeking shelter where she could. As Professor Fig was assigned the task of giving Raven her letter and bringing her to Hogwarts, it still took no time at all for Professor Fig to find Raven even though she was missing from the orphanage. She was hesitant at first but overall wasn’t scared at all, and actually was relieved to know there were others like her. A whole world like her just waiting to be apart of and that was the happiest day in her life.
Other notes: She had studied with Professor Fig for the duration of the summer before starting at Hogwarts. Having only gained her powers after the school year had finished. He had become the first father figure to Raven.
Psychological Traits
Personality type: INFP (Mediator) is a personality type with the introverted, intuitive, feeling and prospecting traits. These rare personality types tend to be quiet, open-minded, and imaginative, and they apply a caring and creative approach to everything they do.
Personality traits: intelligent, witty, adventurous, warm, courageous, emotionally intuitive, and quick-thinker
Introvert/Extrovert: Sometimes both. Loves to be around her close friends, but doesn’t mind spending time alone reading a good book or flying on her broom.
Hobbies: Star-gazing, tending to the magical beasts in the Vivarium, and literature.
Loves: All the creatures in her Vivarium, and flying on her broom.
Morals/Virtues: Values being compassionate and always being there for her friends/loved ones at a moment’s notice. Tries to do right by them and stand by their side when times are tough. She knows what it feels like to be alone in certain situations and doesn’t want her friends to go through the same thing.
Phobias/Fears: Being trapped in a “cage” and being forgotten.
Relationships
Love Interest: Sebastian Sallow… From the very beginning she felt like there was some sort of connection, but was a bit too oblivious to see it at first. He’s very charming and almost flirtatious with other girls, so figured she wasn’t any different. Sometimes she will catch him sneaking a glance in her direction during class, while studying in the Library or at mealtimes in the Great Hall. It was so easy to stand by him and help him find a cure for his sister without even a second thought. It may have been foolish, but Raven knows what it’s like to have no support when at your lowest. To feel like all hope is lost. She can understand losing your parents at a young age.
