“I was at dinner with him this summer when he got back over here, my wife and I with him and his lovely girlfriend, and I gotta tell you, he loves playing in Minnesota so much. He loves playing in the NHL so much. He got here - he had to get out, as you know - but got here so early in advance of the season, continued his off season preparation. He loves his teammates. This is one of those superstars everybody on the team loves.”
Kevin Weekes talking about Kirill Kaprizov ahead of the Edmonton Oilers @ Minnesota Wild game, Dec. 1st 2022

Pens hired Jason Spezza as assistant GM. Sidney Crosby amazingly keeping the puck away from him and it leading to a Kris Letang goal is always what first comes to mind when I think about Spezza.

nothing pisses me off more than how figure skating reporters/news will constantly and intentionally leave out important details of stories in order to produce ragebait for people who don’t know anything about figure skating
#like i’m sorry but surya bonaly is NOT the hill you want to die on.#they banned backflips BEFORE SHE WAS EVEN COMPETING because guess what!#USFSA/ISU doesn’t want to deal with skaters breaking their fucking necks and dying on live tv!#or make young skaters feel like they Have To Learn how to do it and then fucking dying because of how INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS it is.#dont get me wrong figure skating is conservative and racist as fuck and surya bonaly faced some pretty horrific racism in her career#but banning the backflip had absolutely nothing to do with her and everything to do about not having skaters fucking die#also i’m not sorry but her edgework fucking sucked. like her jumps were incredible i can’t lie but her edges were. painful to watch at best#see also: everything regarding the sambo 70 and eteri#i am so sick and fucking tired of seeing people who don’t skate just hype up these incredible abused teenagers and hail them like gods#they don’t need fame they need HELP and eteri needs to be in fucking JAIL for what she’s done to SO MANY KIDS#i hope this sport gets more boring!! i hope i see less quads and less teenagers!!#what i want to see is competitive skaters who are still able to skate when they’re 25+ because their training was healthy and genuine#i want to see good technique and clean lutz edges and no full blade assistance on toe jumps bc thats what will save your joints#i want to see skaters with muscle and fat who have healthy relationships w/ food and their bodies and are stronger for it#this sport is so fucked. it’s a joke. i love skating but i wish i never had to interact with the community around it#ESPECIALLY those who have never gone through the sport themselves. stop getting off on abused children and start advocating for SAFETY#rosie speaks

November 2023 Bouldering Update
Since joining a climbing gym (Edgeworks) at the start of September, bouldering has quickly become my main hobby and favorite way to spend my free time. I still can’t put my finger on what it is about climbing, but it really has been an incredible hobby to have. When I first deliberated over whether or not to get the membership, I figured I’d visit the climbing gym one to two times per week. In actuality, I’ve been climbing two to four times per week averaging 2.78 visits per week. Now that I’m thoroughly obsessed with climbing, I’d honestly like to be climbing even more. I think four times per week may end up being the sweet spot as it allows me to climb regularly and also avoid climbing more than two days in a row. Currently, I climb pretty much every Saturday and Sunday and then more randomly during the week.
About a month ago I shared that I’d completed my first two V2 boulders. It was only a week or so later that I completed my first V3. I didn’t know it at the time though because it was one of the new climbs that hadn’t yet been officially graded. While it wasn’t exactly easy for me, I will say that there were a number of V2s that were significantly more difficult for me. In other words, grades really don’t tell the complete story as each climber has unique strengths and challenges. The same thing happened with my next V3 in that I attempted and completed it before it had been officially graded. At this point in time, I can climb just about all of the V2s in my gym. (There’s just one V2 where I get stuck at the second-to-last hold). This week I completed two more V3s and am currently working on another V3 and an “easy” V4. While my primary goal is just to have fun, the progress that I’ve been making has been really satisfying.

Three cercolons. Literally translates to "big circles", cercolons are decorative wall plates and a specialty of Andalusia. These are ceramic and hand-painted. The first two depict the Temple menorah (with seven branches), one in various shades of blue and one in a variety of colors. The other depicts a Magen David lined with leaves and flowers.
All of the golden-colored edging and accents are 24-carat gold. The flowers and decorative edgework are examples of cuerda seca (dry cord), a technique for painting tiles and ceramics which dates to the period of Arabic colonization of Spain.

You know, sometimes I sort of glaze over what it takes to play this sport, and then I see a picture like this and it’s like. How are you doing that. You’re at a complete 45 degree angle balancing on the side of tiny skinny strips of sharp metal. On ICE. How. This is insane. I love when we get to see edgework in still because it always makes me pause and ponder how absurd this whole concept is.

"But what I’m talking - with the angle on his skates - (there’s the camera) - some guys play more like this. (Lundqvist holds his hands up so his palms are parallel, fingers in tight and pointing towards the camera.) [Ersson]’s more of an inside guy – (Lundqvist changes the angle of his palms to face towards the ground, while remaining on a diagonal) which allows him to push right away to go side to side. We talked earlier in the show, his ability of coming up big on breakaways. That’s part of it. Being that low on that angle, and pushing quickly. So, love his game. Happy for him that he’s making most of this opportunity."
Henrik Lundqvist on Sam Ersson, PHI @ CHI, 2.21.24
Full transcript under the cut.

[Liam] McHugh: “…So now, you have Sam Ersson, who was gonna be the backup – He is the man now. He is well-liked on this team, it almost seems like they’re all pulling for him, cheering for him, gonna call him the backbone of this team. The question is, can he be a number one if you’re going to the playoffs? [To Lundqvist:] What are you seeing?”
[Henrik] Lundqvist: “You know, this is a great opportunity for him. To me he’s making the most of it. I’ve seen a bunch of clips of this guy playing now for months, and he’s moving really well – his edgework is so good; you see how low he stands here? So his edge work is so good- Some goalies put a lot of weight on their feet, just below their feet, but he’s more of an inside guy and that allows him to push side to side so quickly, and in control. And again, when you do get this opportunity to make the most of it, he earned the right to, you know, let’s see how far he can take it! And if they make the playoffs, you know, he can definitely make it happen and he’s not 20, he’s 24. He has experience.
"But what I’m talking - with the angle on his skates - (there’s the camera) - some guys play more like this. [Lundqvist holds his hands up so his palms are parallel, fingers in tight and pointing towards the camera.] He’s more of an inside guy – [Lundqvist changes the angle of his palms to face towards the ground, while remaining on a diagonal] which allows him to push right away to go side to side. We talked earlier in the show, his ability of coming up big on breakaways. That’s part of it. Being that low on that angle, and pushing quickly. So, love his game. Happy for him that he’s making most of this opportunity.”
[Anson] Carter: “That made complete sense–"
McHugh: "Before, earlier, we were backstage–"
Carter: "Hank was doing this – [makes the palms-towards-the-ground motion with his hands]"
McHugh: "Not talking to us, but doing [hands parallel, then diagonal, then parallel again] and the two of us were just, what are you…”
Lundqvist: "I’m trying to figure out - when I played, I was also on the inside angle, especially on breakaways – [hands diagonal] and that’s what I see from him, like when he’s, especially in tight, so sitting in the green room, just going, [makes motion] so hopefully I made sense! Hopefully…”

mackinnon trending on the bird app.. had to click...
twitter hockeymen going on and on about a "big strong man" being "too soft" and "clearly faking" being unable to keep his balance and deserving an embellishment/diving penalty is the cishet man's hrpf. writing a narrative to fulfill a daydream about why their team lost. and the most hilarious-- why they've "lost respect for mackinnon" 😂😂😂 oh noo the dogg is so sad and must unfriend the always honourable golden goal captain canada sid immediately
...something comes at your hand (not at the puck, but at your body) while you're receiving a pass and gearing up into a shot where you're positioning and weight is about to be shifted mostly onto a single foot in order to release. it jolts you out of your rhythm to have to push that intruding stick out of the way and have to overcompensate to reposition and regain balance and stay on your feet.
men: boo. so soft. what a performance.
listen here you stupid little gnat. nathan motherfucking mackinnon doesn't need a pity penalty call to make your team look like ass k. he and his boys did that with 4 unanswered goals. and he does it on the regular, singlehandedly, at even strength.
embellishment/diving calls are some of my most hated shit in this game. cale has gotten some of the worst in seasons past. like my goodness. he was just a little guy. obviously he's gonna twirl around a bit, not even fall, trying to regain balance and they throw that call on him. he's even called off penalties called on others bc he insisted they didn't touch him, that he fell of his own volition. one of the best skaters with incredible edgework technique falls on slippery ice sometimes. huh. who woulda thunk it.
the teams that do that diving shit on the regular as per their coaches' instructions, go after them you fucking idiots. entire teams have won stanley cups with award-winning performances you ate up. or hey, how about the refs who call simultaneous penalties along with dives?? which one is it? is it a penalty or is it a nothing and some dude falling on his own in order to frame someone?? nhl refs have bred mistrust in calls with their lousy performance record.
obvs I've nothing against van fans here. this is all aimed at nonsense twitter hockeymen and refs. sometimes... sometimes i just gotta vent before i can get back to regularly scheduled tumblr funsies with y'all. anyhow, dumb rant over. peace n love n lets objectify men in fully-covered attire

in TONIGHT'S GAME, Samuel Ersson had:
21 saves
1 GA
.954 SV%
For the second game in a row, Samuel Ersson faced off against another rookie goaltender, and this time it was a fellow Swede: Arvid Söderblom in net for the Chicago Blackhawks. Unlike the Stadium Series game against rookie Nico Daws, Ersson came out on top tonight and kept the Flyers afloat with 21 saves, including some enormous saves on fellow Calder contender Connor Bedard. On the other end, Söderblom also made some big stops on the Flyers, saving 30 out of 33 shots, but ultimately the shot-blocking machine of the Flyers defense kept Ersson from having to face the kind of offense that Söderblom was subject to.
On commentary during intermissions, Henrik Lundqvist had some high praise for Ersson, who previously cited Lundqvist as one of his goaltender inspirations.
"I've seen a bunch of clips of this guy playing now... and he's moving really well – his edgework is so good; you see how low he stands here?... Some goalies put a lot of weight on their feet, below their feet, but he's more of an inside guy and that allows him to push side to side so quickly, and in control."
PAST FIVE STARTS:
3-1-1
.904 SV%
2.8 GAA
SEASON:
16-10-4
.900 SV%
2.58 GAA
Image.
NEXT GAME: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2024 FLYERS V RANGERS
