ohey we're finally using this poll feature

anyway thanks to tumblr's questionable updates, it's come to our attention that we can actually do photosets with more than 10 images now -- up to 30, in fact!!!

So we're actually able to fit whole chapters into one post rather than splitting them (obviously except for volume omakes which have maaany pages). Something you guys might appreciate since it means everything is in one place and we don't have to link to other parts in the post description.

However this also means the posts will become very long, which some people might not like; you can look at the Volume 14 omakes Part 3 post if you want an idea of how long a typical chapter post (14-16 pages) would look like. Also, I personally like to be consistent with how many images are in each row (2 per row vs 3 per row), which is easier to do when splitting the chapters HFKSJDHFJSKD but that is very specific to me, you guys probably don't care as much

So we're interested in hearing how you guys would like us to upload upcoming translations \o/ CMC members shall think about how to proceed with your thoughts in mind~

Hello and welcome to my shiny new sideblog! I wanted to make a quick post to credit my header image and icon. The header is a gorgeous old illustration of Ravenclaw common room that I’ve had saved to my laptop since... shortly after I first got my own laptop haha, back before I cared much about image attribution, but with a reverse google image search I managed to track down this deviantart post, which seems to be the original, as near as I can tell. The icon is from this wikimedia file which has a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license; the edits (making the image softer and purple-tinted) are my own. 

While it is technically an image of a Norwegian Forest Cat named Kleo, for the sake of this blog’s purposes, as per my url & title, this is the Lovegood family (Luna and her husband Rolf Scamander, but I still intend to refer to them as the Lovegoods because Luna is my girl, you know? ;) )’s pet kneazle, Medb (pronounced “Mave”), principally because I’ve been listening to this podcast on Irish Folklore called Sounds from the Shadows where they were telling the story of Medb. (It’s a good podcast, I’d definitely recommend it!)

I just love that you’re still using paint shop pro, I think I still have the disc for that somewhere around the house 😀

Even funnier, the version I’m using is over 20 years old at this point and frequently struggles to even function properly in a modern windows desktop environment.

I’ve been meaning to replace it for... years, basically, and even bought a license for Clip Studio Paint some months back for that express purpose. I just... haven’t gotten around to actually start migrating to it yet because it’d take more time and effort to learn something new than to endure the peculiarities of old paint shop pro. It’s not like there’s a shortage of tutorials or anything for the purpose either, I just need to take the time and energy for it which has so far proven... difficult.

Plus all my image template files for Stray Stories and so forth are still in the *.psp format and I’d have to deal with all of that, too.

#look the first time I used a version of paint shop pro was back on windows 3.1 #and photoshop always felt bloated and awkward to me by comparison #I've stuck to version 7 something of psp for the last two decades or so #even though it's become less and less reliable with each new windows release #honestly my ideal image editing software would basically be the psp I have #but more compatible with modern windows #and with some added/updated modern features in the mix #I don't really need it to be massively overhauled #just some better colour adjusting and effects #better implemented vector layer support #less janky saving of transparency for PNGs and TGAs #DDS support would be really nice too

tumblr blackout proposal

tumblr mobile has steadily become near unusable these past few updates. not just from a user experience perspective (which is important enough in itself) but also from an accessibility perspective.

examples include the new way the image viewer works (if you can call it "working"), the tumblr live button replacing the profile button, and that newly created blogs will be forced to have their main dashboard tab be the 'for you' page.

the demands of the protest would be along the lines of:

reverse the recent image viewer update

scrap the new users 'for you' page default setting

let us turn off tumblr live indefinitely

increase efforts against spam / porn bots

make reporting abuse and hate speech as easy as reporting as reporting spam

let us go nuts show nuts again... for real this time

remove flashing ads, including not accepting blaze campaigns for posts with flashing in them

commit to improving usability and accessibility, and listening to users!

(suggestions welcome!)

to protest against these usability issues, and inspired by the recent reddit blackout, i propose a 48 hour blackout (where you don't use tumblr at all). preferably of both mobile and web (since web has problems too) but mobile is the focus here.

[edit: a 'blackout' is when you don't log in, or interact with the site at all, for [x] amount of time.]

I suggest from the 30th of June.

this marks the end of pride month (for the "queerest place on the internet") and the start of disability month (since accessibility is a massive issue here).

For new users, you can't change the default back to Following. This means that whenever you open up your app/go to your dash, the first tab you'll see is the For You tab

Yes, some people mentioned that you don't have to turn off Based on your likes and Best stuff first, but that's mostly my preference since (to me at least) it does not work, it just shows me random shit that is absolutely not based on my likes

My main problem with this update is that it strips the user from being able to choose what they wanted to see. It's totally cool if you use the For You tab, but it shouldn't be the default option

You can turn off public likes and followings, again, not mandatory, but it's an option

Make sure to turn off Tumblr Live (pretty sure it's only available to US users, which I am not one) since it apparently drains mobile data

There are (browser) addons and extensions that allows you to block elements or make your tumblr experience better, like uBlock Origin (an adblocker which can be used to block certain elements from showing up) and the XKit Control Panel/New XKit

It appears this opened a day after after the meme took off.

Goncharov was first entered into Wikipedia between Day 4 and 5 (attempts to vandalise it with fake info don't count, incidentally – please knock that shit off) under List of Internet Phenomena. This was then expanded into its own Wikipedia page at the end of Day 5 because, according to the talk history: "the topic now meets the notability threshold for its own artice due to significant coverage in The New York Times and other sources cited."
