Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Whew, okay, from oldest to newest! (This was quite difficult.)
Eden Sank to Grief
Fandom: House M.D.
Summary and Info: Once upon a time, House and Stacy made a good team. These are the moments that defined their relationship. (I finished this in 2009, but it still owns a very special place in my heart.)
2. Accidental Metamorphoses
Fandom: The West Wing
Summary and Info: Josh had just confessed his best-kept secret of the last four years and he wanted to act on it. (A Josh/Donna story, set several days post-canon.)
3. Marry Our Fortunes
Fandom: Ripper Street
Summary and Info: When Jackson is exiled to America, Reid decides to follow him. (AU from the "Jackson and Reid's heart-wrenching farewell" scene in the series finale.)
4. Flowers in the Dirt
Fandom: Ripper Street
Summary and Info: It has been two years since Edmund was reinstated as the head of H Division. Without notice, a face from Edmund's past reenters his life and requests his help. (Set post-series, 1902. Ed/Jane.)
5. Taste Test
Fandom: Ted Lasso
Summary and Info: The gang prepares a taste test to change Ted's mind about tea. (An absolute delight to write. I've been told it's also fun to read.)
---
Bonus/Cheating
6. Sweetheart From Another Life
Fandom: Ripper Street
Summary and Info: September 15, 1888 changed Edmund and Emily's lives. But in the eleven years before that day, they shared a life of ordinary joys and disappointments, built upon what they believed was an extraordinary love. (I had to mention this one, even though it's unfinished. I have been thinking about it a lot lately and will be finishing it soon. Not a popular pairing, Ed and Emily, but I needed to write this because I am 100% sure they had a lovely marriage before things went horribly wrong and was tired of seeing Emily and their relationship hated on so much. And this is full of lovely moments that I enjoyed writing.)

Title: And They Lived
Primary Pairing: Edmund Reid / Jane Cobden
Secondary Pairings: Other canon pairings
Story Summary: It’s not always ‘happily ever after,’ but sometimes it’s close enough. Canon rewrite, beginning with “Our Betrayal” and continuing shortly after the end of the series. Please read with joy and confidence knowing that: Best does not die! Bennet does not die! Susan does not die! And others do not die. (Emily, Shine, and Papa Swift still die, though–sorry, but someone had to die. And Mimi does not exist in this universe–again, sorry.)
Chapter 24 Summary: Today was hanging day. (End of Part I)
Excerpt:
He’d meant what he’d said. I’d like to try, he’d said. Try to be happy, on balance, with Jane, with his life, their life. But not today. Today, happiness had run to the darkest pockets of the world and would hunker there, protected in shadow, until the clatter of the scaffold echoed in the yard and the rope groaned with the weight of death. Today was hanging day.

Chapter 19 Summary: Jane tries to make the most of her and Edmund's time in the countryside, but she is forced to reveal a secret that she fears will ruin not just the day, but their relationship.
Excerpt:
Edmund mumbled in half-hearted protest when she hooked him by the elbow, but followed her to the front door. She detoured to the kitchen and fetched two apples. “Catch,” she said, the fruit already in mid-air. He only managed to catch it because it happened to collide with the hand he raised in defense of his head.
“Is that how you protect yourself from gunfire?” she teased.
“Why? Do you plan to shoot me later?”
“Well,” she said. “I may be forced to shoot you if you continue to behave like a boy who’s lost his puppy.”
He frowned and, like the tie pin, turned the apple over in his hand. “You have been patient, Jane, and I am grateful for it, but I must ask your patience a little while—”
“You shall not have it, Edmund.”

Chapter 23 Summary: Emily’s death affects Jane in ways she didn’t expect.
Excerpt:
“It’s got nothin’ to do with you,” Jackson said. “He has to punish himself for whatever wrongs he thinks he’s committed. That’s the trouble with policemen like Reid.” Jackson speared a parsnip as if the vegetable itself had caused him trouble. “They take their obligations a little too much to heart.”
“Yes, but he cannot possibly punish himself for his mistakes forever.”
“No, not forever. But I have a hunch he’ll do it until he feels he has…” He waved his fork in the air as he chewed. “…earned some measure of forgiveness.”
“And how long will that take, do you suppose?”

Chapter 18 Summary: In the quiet of the countryside, Edmund has some difficulty adjusting to his changing life.
Excerpt:
Jane did not speak again until they hailed a carriage and did not speak another word to him until they arrived at the house, a small stone cottage set back from the road. Edmund had anticipated—for no reason other than his own suspicions—that the house would be located with many of the others, closer to the center of the little town. But only fields of tall grass surrounded the house. A cluster of trees separated it from its nearest neighbor, hardly visible between the trunks and branches. The sight had awoken and refocused his senses—enough for him to shake off the dreary, colorless veil that had fallen over his face for the last day.
“It is not what I imagined,” he admitted, once the carriage had gone.
“What did you imagine?”
“Something less…” He paused, trying to conjure an appropriate word, one that could capture the peace and stillness, the idyllic and vibrant beauty of the scene. Quiet. Calm. “Tranquil.”

...they should go have a holiday in the countryside. ;)

Chapter 16 Summary: Edmund pulls off an evening full of surprises for Jane, but the night takes a turn when Jackson arrives with his own surprise for the both of them.
Excerpt:
She closed the door and faced him. “You were not worried about me, I hope.”
“No, not worried.”
“Because I told you, Edmund. There is no need to worry.” She slipped her hand under his coat and pressed it to his chest. “You do not need to watch out for me. Or count the minutes ‘til I am home.”
“No. Yes, of course.” He took her hand from his chest and held it. “I only meant that I hoped you would be home sooner, because I invited someone to dinner.”
“Oh? And you thought not to tell me?”
“I did, but I also thought to surprise you. You are familiar with the concept, are you not?”

Chapter 14 Summary: A break in the outbreak investigation comes from an unexpected source. At great cost, Jane refuses to reveal the whereabouts of this source. Trigger Warning: This chapter contains descriptions of graphic violence that may not be suitable for all readers.
Excerpt:
“Councillor Cobden,” he said, his voice as gravelly as a handful of wet sand.
She summoned the will to quiet the nervous whispers in her head and held out her hand. “Good afternoon, sir. I do not believe I have had the pleasure.”
The man smirked, advancing around the side of her desk. Jane tensed, but tried not to show it.
“Indeed, you have not.”

Chapter 15 Summary:  In the days following the incident in her office, Jane provides clarification to an overly-observant and nervous Edmund, who has a surprise planned.
Excerpt:
Now, he sat at his desk and studied her with quick but frequent glances, analyzing her body language and expressions, trying to root out any signs of repressed emotions, any hidden resentment. Emily had worn her resentment like armor; perhaps Jane stowed hers beneath layers of denial and the appearance of normalcy. He dreaded the moment she would unleash her blame and resentment on him, the nearest and easiest target, but he did not wish to be surprised by it. And so he watched her.
With a sigh, Jane closed her small notebook—what he knew to be her appointment book. Her face fell with a weary expression and, with a tone to match, said, “Edmund, please stop it.”
