Edward Midford vs Joker:

First of all, it's the status that would give Joker off the biggest sense of inequality. He wouldn't consider himself as unworthy of your love or insecure about his flaws or anything of that sort, no. The very first thought that'd occur in his mind is how his rival has not only wealth but also the title and position in the society which is enough to actually make him the best candidate for your hand.

He, on the other hand, could offer you freedom. It may not be the easiest life but surely there has to be more to it than using silver cutlery and speaking in a sophisticated manner—he'd give you all the love you deserve, all his attention and the sense of belonging. The family. They won't be as courteous as the nobles but they'd respect you as his partner. Shouldn't that be enough when it comes to true love?

Edward wouldn't know how to react to realising that it's a circus member that is trying to steal your heart from him. Is it some kind of joke? A trap? A test of his devotion? Whatever the reason, he won't give up, especially not to someone who'd make you live in a tent and eat leftover foods... you deserved everything best, after all—the softest bed sheets, the most detailed outfits, a lot of free time to indulge in your hobbies. He would give you all of this and much, much more. What could that clown give to you in comparison?

However, Joker is charming. He's a sweet-talker, he knows how to attract the audience and you, too. He has some silver tongue and although his tricks may seem cheap and boring in the eyes of an erudite such as Edward, there's no way he won't get your attention that way. And once your eyes are on him, he'll make sure that you'll feel like a princess by his side.

Can Edward sweep you off your feet in an instant? Can he charm you with his wit and jokes and compliments? Or all he has to offer is his family money, boring, tedious rules, do's and don'ts and the never ending play-pretend in front of the other members of nobility? While here, by Joker's side you can be anything you want.

The day you and Edward decided to attend the circus' show would definitely be the date when the invisible battle between two interests would start. There won't be much time to lose—it should end by the time the show is over, once you tasted both the sweet freedom of laughter and dancing however you please with a company who's serving you the most fancy praises and the rich flavour of perfume from the welcoming gift you received, your presence adored and cherished and admired by the most chivalrous man you've ever met.

Oh, God. Well, that’s it; stick a fork in him, he’s done! He’s just very weak for this woman, and in all honesty this is the type of woman he’d probably fall for. His mother taught him that strong women make for the backbone of a family, the framework of a proud and powerful country. So he’d be quite happy to have a strong woman on his arm.

Though… he’s perhaps a little worried about introducing her to his mother. Francis and (Name) both have iron wills, so the concern that they might end up clashing in opinions with neither backing down isn’t an unfounded fear. That said, the marchioness respects her son’s beloved for having a prominent moral character as well as steely determination. … Even if that means (Name) ends up in disagreement with Francis. The two women are less anxious about that than Edward, who one would swear is about to have a heart attack whenever that happens.

He doesn’t really mind being told what to do, and he doesn’t really mind that she’s likely able to protect him. Some people might take offense to having a partner who may regularly save their arse, but, well… Edward could never. He and (Name) are a team in every aspect of their life. If she’s capable of rescuing him when he can’t manage to rescue himself, that’s fine. It pushes him to improve so that next time he can be the one saving her. He’s simply here for a strong lady taking charge.

So what if she excels at fencing, more than he does? Lizzie’s better with a sword than he is, too, and he doesn’t stop loving her, either. It just means she has a talent for it, or she’s spent more time than he has. Their differences with the sword are no reason for him to get jealous of her or anything of the sort. In fact, he finds security in the fact that she’s a good fencer. It means that in the event they’re separated and he physically can’t be there to keep her safe, he doesn’t need to worry. Although it would piss him off, no villain could ever taunt him with the fact that he can’t protect her ― she can protect herself.

He forgets to press continue at least once per session because he can't get enough of the cat.

In the lobby he hangs out near the cat every time, watching it and wishing to touch its fluffy paws, then realising it's just a game and getting depressed.

He loves Splatoon 3 for the sole reason that it has cats as referees.

Upon seeing her low rank, you are going to assume she's a total noob and doesn't move the team forward, but then surprise, she's the one who leads everyone to victory, slaughtering one by one and competing even with Grell.

She's actually a pacifist, but Splatoon 3 makes her forget all morals and good manners, mercilessly killing players who are just standing around or swimming up the walls.

She is a team player, shielding her teammate and rushing to their rescue, but she is also great at solo.

When Ciel is near, her skills are skyrocketing. If Ciel is killed, you have hopelessly gotten yourself in a deadly situation, because she will go berserk, wiping out the entire opponent's team.

He is relatively average, a little less good compared to Lizzy, Sebastian and Ciel, but does his job decently. However, if you kill his sister, then running away won't help you anymore, because he chases you all over the field and won't rest until he slaughters you. Probably dies as well during the attempt, but he doesn't care, as long as the opponents dead

Also, he gets absolutely pissed if the opponent kills him before he could take revenge

One of his strategies is to hide behind his sister's shield and then race fast behind the enemy and finish them off. This won't work every time.

She is the incredibly talented sniper that you won't notice until the very moment you die. However, if you manage to get close, she struggles with her short weapon range and easily gets killed. Her skills also vary depending on the stage.

At first, he’s quite shy about approaching her simply because she’s got such an impressive job. Even being who he is, from a prestigious family, he’s afraid he wouldn’t be interesting enough for someone like her. She’s so intelligent! And while he knows he’s no idiot, solving puzzles like she does every day isn’t his strongest suit. What if he can’t keep up with her when she wants to have conversations…? So for a while, he keeps his distance out of insecurity.

However, he doesn’t miss the point that if he did get together with her, they would be one of London’s most powerful couples. A knight-in-training who’s an expert with a sword alongside one of Scotland Yard’s top detectives who unravels mysteries? The headlines practically write themselves. He fantasizes about it sometimes, having her on his arm (or, indeed, being on hers) and having everyone look at them with thoughts of, This is what we should aspire to! This is what a happy, fulfilling relationship looks like! Maybe it’s a tiny bit selfish in that it fills him with pride, but what else are fantasies for?

Can’t bring himself to talk to her about anything other than small talk or things relating to business. He doesn’t ask her if she has plans for the next afternoon; instead what comes out is a poorly-executed quip about how rainy it’s been lately. As if she doesn’t already know!! He could kick himself sometimes. He’s just so damn awkward around this woman.

Sometimes Lizzie, blunt as she is and trying to be helpful, will invite (Name) over for tea. She thinks that if she’s along as a buffer, then her big brother will feel so much more confident about this. However, it usually happens that she’s whisked off to meet Ciel or go shopping in town or something of the like, so… poor Edward is left alone trying to charm this lady. And, well, try he does. He finds that she seems to prefer it when he’s just being himself, rather than when he’s trying to impress her and making himself anxious.

Once, the lady invites him along on an assignment of hers, under the guise of it being someone his family associates with who’s under investigation. Surely he’d want to see firsthand what’s going on, right? And she also thinks it’s going to be quite an uneventful evening aside from the two of them spending a little time together. So, like the gentleman he is not wanting to hurt her feelings, he accepts. Of course… things do take a turn, and it’s lucky that he always has his sword on hand. Whatever vile villain thinks they can lay a hand on (Name), Edward proves them sorely wrong. It only takes a moment after that, with both of them shaken, for him to blurt out the question she’s been waiting for him to ask: “Will you go with me?!” (Go where and when is up for consideration, but… the details can be ironed out later.)

Modern AU Chesward Headcanons

Cheslock and Edward both attend Weston, a prestigious private boys' school.

Edward's family paid for him to attend, while Cheslock got in on a scholarship.

Edward is put off by Cheslock's punk looks and carefree attitude, and doesn't really get why or how Cheslock is there.

Cheslock hates Edward's uptight, holier than thou attitude and goes out of his way to be a chaotic little shit towards Edward.

Edward is a teacher's assistant. One day when delivering something to the music room he walks in on Cheslock playing violin. He's shocked by how good Cheslock is, and suddenly realizes that he deserves to be at Weston just as much as (and maybe even more than) everyone else. After that he starts treating Cheslock more as his equal.

Cheslock welcomes the change of heart, although he still likes annoying Edward it's more playful that malicious and Edward is more receptive to it.

With the superiority complex out of the way, they quickly become unlikely friends.

Cheslock is very open about his sexuality. Edward is a bit put off by it due to his internalized homophobia, which causes tension between them. Cheslock feels that Edward is unaccepting, and Edward is scared to come to terms with his sexuality.

It takes a while for Edward to admit that the reason he's uncomfortable with Cheslock being open about his sexuality is because he feels he himself can't be.

Cheslock wouldn't ever compromise on his individuality. Instead, he offers to help Edward become more comfortable with himself.

Cheslock takes Edward to his first pride event. Edward is tense and nervous, but Cheslock's joy starts rubbing off on him and he enjoys himself. They stay out well after curfew and have to run back to the dorms and sneak in so they don't get in trouble. (More details in another post coming soon)

They get together just over a year later. Edward still deals with internalized homophobia, but Cheslock is there for him to help him through it, as both his friend and his partner.
