so Sophie’s Edwina’s secretary in the bodyguard au?! Oh bless her, she doesn’t get it easy does she 😂😂
Probably pleased she’s not having to deal with the future Queen and her bodyguard drama as that’s gonna be a headache! and all that drama only for Edwina to be like “hold my beer” with Josephine…
Sophie Beckett, Princess Edwina’s private secretary is the hardest working woman in that palace and everyone knows it. Sophie is constantly seen, herding Edwina around the palace with her arms held outstretched, walking forward, giving Edwina little choice but to move in the same direction.
She might not have to deal with Princess Kate and the fact that the Princess is clearly, in Sophie’s opinion, shagging Anthony Bridgerton her head of security. It’s none of Sophie’s business, it’s really not, she just walked past a cupboard in The Small Palace one day and the last time she checked, mops didn’t say “Fuck, Anthony.”
It’s just not Sophie’s problem! It isn’t! She has enough to deal with Edwina, frankly.
“I have a secret.”
Sophie narrowed her eyes at Edwina across the car. “Is it…? About a certain… security guard?”
Edwina narrowed her eyes, “What do you know?”
“What do you know?”
Neither of them spoke for a moment before Edwina sighed, “My secret is different than that. I have a crush on a straight girl I have for a very long time.”
“How long’s a long time?”
“Since I was fifteen.”
Sophie winced, “That’s a long time.”
Edwina groaned, “I know. It’s fucking awful. I haven’t really thought about her in ages and then she showed up at this event and I… fuck. She was my sort of… peer big sister thing when I was at school, she was finishing up when I started and she… is… fucking perfect. It’s annoying.”
“Do I know this woman?”
“She’s… the Duke of Haverford’s daughter.”
Sophie let her mind tick through the list of people, their pictures before she gasped, “Josephine? Ohh she’s pretty.”
“I know.” Edwina groaned, “And I fucking… couldn’t stay away from her at that stupid party could I? I’ve been texting her and it’s a fucking disaster is what it is.”
“Well maybe not, are we sure she’s straight?”
“She told me she was when I mentioned something in passing.”
Sophie winced, “I’m sorry, I guess you need to decide if you want to be friends with someone if it’s going to make you feel like shit. You don’t deserve to feel that way.”
“She doesn’t want me to feel that way.” Edwina’s voice was tiny, staring out the window.
“And it’s not her fault, she is who she is, and you are who you are. I just… I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“Right.” Edwina nodded, “You’re right. I’m just going to stop. I’ll stop responding to pictures of her cute little sausage dog.”
“What’s the sausage dog’s name?”
“Haggis.”
Sophie let out a squeak. “I’m sorry. That’s…” She scoffed, “Barely a cute name. Fuck Josie.”
“Yeah,” Edwina sighed, “Fuck Josie.”
“I didn’t expect you to take our new mantra literally Edwina!” Sophie hissed as she herded her down the hall, her cheeks still burning from having to keep the king out of his own study months later while Edwina rattled the desk drawers loose.
Edwina grinned, “Well, you know what I’m like.”
“I need a new job. I need to transfer to your sister.”
“Speaking of my sister, have I mentioned Anthony’s brother to you?”
Sophie scoffed, “Oh you are not setting me up with someone to distract me! At least don’t use your father’s office to secretly shag the daughter of one of these rich fuckers! Your father thinks I’m insane!”

Some in the Bridgerton fandom will paint Kate as being in an abusive family, paint Edwina and Mary (even Lady Danbury at times) as these villainous people who make her life miserable just to make Anthony and his family the "better choice". Like, ignoring how this trope of "villainous poc family causing the poc female character to run away into arms of a white family" is so terrible it also makes no sense when in reference to these characters themselves. Let's start with the Sharmas: we have Kate who is the daughter of a man who remarried and had a child of their own. Now, from that alone people just outright use this as a way to paint Mary in a bad light, making up the most outlandish things, when Mary admits very adamantly that she always viewed Kate as her daughter and has/will always love her. Why do you think she was so outraged by Kate being willing to accept the deal given by the Sheffields?
Now, on to Edwina. Some will hang that "half-sister" line over her head but won't give the same action to Anthony, or heck, even Kate (though she doesn't deserve hate like Anthony more so criticism for some parts). Now the line was wrong, for sure, but that doesn't mean Edwina wasn't in her right. Here we have a young girl who lost her father, is aware of her family's social and economic status, and is informed from the beginning that her finding a suitable match will either tip or support the balance of her family's lives. Edwina is literally entered into the show searching for a husband to help support her family, that's first, romance came second. So enter Anthony who, infront of her, is so charming and kind and even though him and her sister are fighting at times he still seeks her out. He's wealthy and promises to provide for her family, something that she wants. Only to find out that none of it was real, or at least, real towards her and that she was hurt in the process (by this I refer to the Sheffields ordeal and Anthony's whole attitude and his lack of respect for her). Like that's messed up and anyone would be upset over it, forgive a woman (more so a young woman in Edwina's case) expressing their feelings. Some of you want her to be Kate's cheerleader 24/7, and it shows. And Edwina was always ready to comfort Kate, from her (Kate) being detached from the world (during her wedding) to her supporting her (Kate) and Anthony being together, so let's not go on and say the Bridgertons would be better.
Now, on to the main family themselves, what we see of the Bridgertons in s2 isn't even that positive when you really think about it. From the beginning, when Anthony is looking for a wife with the most horrible standards, Violet, who notes that her son isn't looking for marriage for the right reasons and instead of trying to talk to him about it, instantly goes and states she's disappointed by his outlook and fears he won't be happy, confused as to why he's this way. BECAUSE YOU PLACED THAT WEIGHT ON HIM. Like I understand losing her husband was terrible, it was, but to then put all that pressure and weight on to your eldest and then become surprised when it starts affecting him in ways you don't like, while taking hardly any time to actually talk about his feelings, is laughable (couldn't think of a better word). Like whenever Anthony is around with valid points, she looks exasperated at times. And the other Bridgertons aren't better from Daphne literally pitying him (even tho she knew about his feelings for Kate and could have eased the situation instead of letting it go on) to Bennedict laughing at him at every turn to the siblings joking about the situation he put them in (which they themselves could have prevented but didn't & aren't affected as severely by like the Sharmas), it makes no sense how people would view them as better than the Sharmas.
Now on to Kate and how this view affects her. One big reason being is the fact that it ignores her insecurities, only paints them in a different light. Kate didn't view herself as Mary's daughter because her father had been with someone before he met Mary, long after she was born. She didn't think Mary would love her as a daughter and is surprised when she finds out that she actually does. Kate accepts the Sheffields deal because it will help Edwina, because she (Kate) understands their social and economic status and is willing to leave the only family she has just for them to be secure and happy. That's the reason she has turmoil, not because her family hates her and is abusing her! Like where did that thought even come from? Kate has issues of not expressing her feelings, bottling them up and trying to handle things herself until it blows over, that's it. And when she does express them, do you know who actively seeks to reassure her? Her mother and sister. They don't make jokes or make the environment able to express these emotions nonexistent (like the Bridgertons with Anthony), they try to help her because they love her.
Honestly, the Sharmas deserve so much better because if it isn't the show doing them dirty than it's the fandom.
[Quick edit because people were taking some things out of context, by sneaking behind her (Edwina) back, I was referring to the whole Sheffield incident because, when it's revealed, it literally put her, and her sister and mother, in an awkward position and makes her and her family look like bad people, especially in front of the Bridgertons. I reworded my original post and added context, and admit I could have worded it better, but for those who saw it as me immediately trashing Kate's character, I will state here that was nowhere near the intent and never was, sorry for the slip up]

Pairing: Anthony Bridgerton x reader
Summary: growing closer is easier than you thought
Word count: 2k
Warnings: talk of a shitty family, mentions of death, unedited, I think that's all
Serendipity masterlist masterlist
You hummed as you entered the library grabbing the first book you saw on the shelf and sitting down on an couch nearby. You flipped through the pages, finding it boring and discarding it away.
You stood up and walked to the shelves, ruffling through the books, a door opened and closed behind you but you ignored it and continued searching for a good book when you heard a throat being cleared behind you.
You turn around with a book on your hands, coming face to face with the viscount “Viscount Bridgerton” you muttered pushing past him to go sit down
You open the book, ignoring his eyes that were fixated upon you “If you have something to say, you should do it now, I do not like people staring at me like you do, and I do not like people who do not speak their minds”
“I heard what you said to Mrs. Wilson” He blurted out, you hummed in response
“If you are expecting an apology, you will not get one, I stand by what I said” You stated
“No, no, I am not asking for one” He shook his head
“Then?”
“I came to – wanted to apologize for how I… I treated you before” he muttered
You raised an eyebrow “Truly.” He said once he saw the disbelief on your face “You were right. We all lost Kate and everyone is hurting the same way that I am. You were also right saying that I shouldn’t act the way I am, Kate’s death is no excuse and you did not deserve to be on the receiving end of my ire”
You pursued your lips before sighing mulling over his words “I accept your apology, if only because you are Kate’s husband”
He smiled slightly “I propose we start over” he offered “put the bad first impression behind us and try to get along… for Kate”
You nodded “For Kate” he nodded and grabbed a book, sitting down on the couch beside you
And just like that, you both started over.
You both would not go entirely out of your way to seek the other but in the case that you did come across each other, you would greet the other politely, making small talk before you went your way.
That was only the first week. By the second, you would go to the library for your nightly reading fest, the viscount would join you half an hour after, where you both would speak about the books you previously read and he would recommend you books he had read and enjoyed.
And soon enough, you went from strangers, to acquaintances to, almost friends?, you were not quite friends but you were not acquaintances either.
“Mr. Bridgerton” you greeted once you entered the library once again one night, he tilted his head in greeting, very immersed in the pages of the book he was reading. You grabbed the book you were previously reading the night before and sat down next to Lord Bridgerton. Uncomfortable silence filling the room.
After a few minutes of you both reading, you felt Lord Bridgerton shift beside you, closed his book and turned to look at you “Can…” he hesitated “Can you tell me about Kate?”
You looked at him questioningly “How she was before coming to London” Lord Bridgerton clarified “She told me bits of her life but not everything as we spent our time doing…other things” you smother the chuckle you wanted to let out, and instead shook your head
“Well, I have no idea how her childhood was since my parents never did let me visit Kate’s family, because as you probably know, Kate’s father was not exactly rich, and my mother despite being born poor, after she married my father, she changed and prioritized money over everything” You replied “But after I went to live with her family, well, she spent all of her time taking care of Edwina, and me then, she used to spent all of her time teaching Edwina everything she would need to become a proper lady, never really spending any time doing anything other than that. It was very rare when she took some time for herself”
“But, she was always there for us, she listened to us whenever we had a problem and if we wanted to go somewhere but we couldn’t since it wasn’t proper for us to go out unchaperoned, she would take us” You smiled your mind taking you back to the time when everything was simple “There was this time when Edwina and I desperately wanted to go to a fair they were having on our native country, they had brought some new stuff, like opera concerts, or new jewelry, there was even this thing called fireworks, and since we never saw one, we wanted to see what it did”
“So, we had snuck out at night when everyone was abed, or so we thought, we had gotten to this tall wall and we were trying to climb over it – it had some partitions that were out so we were able to hold onto them – and Edwina was at the top, I was starting to climb the wall when Kate caught us. Instead of reprimanding us for sneaking out, she was mad that we did not bring her along” Lord Bridgerton and you chuckled “ Anyway, Edwina and I were on the other side and Kate had one foot on either side, she was bringing her other foot to the other side when she lost her footing and fell into a puddle of mud that was, coincidentally underneath her and that is not even the funny part–“ you started to laugh remembering her face “ because where we used to live was close to a farm, which had some pigs that got loose a lot. One was in the puddle and when she fell, she accidentally fell onto of the pig. You should have seen her. Her whole body was filled with mud, some even got in her mouth and when tried to get up, she lost her footing once again and fell right back down onto the pig” you shook your head once again, both of your laughter filled the room “That was the happiest day of my life”
When you finished talking, the room was filled with silence once again. But this time, it wasn’t that awkward.
”And how was your life before you lived with Kate’s family?” Anthony wondered
You looked up at the fireplace in front of you both, the flames shinning brightly on your eyes “It was normal, it was not amazing but it was not like I had a bad childhood either” you sighed “We were not exactly rich nor did we have a big mansion like you do, I was always expected to be a proper lady so I could marry someone rich and ‘pay back’ what they wasted on me, my mother and father were not really that loving and never really paid attention to anything I needed”
You turned your head to look at him only to find him already staring at you “Ever since I was young, I was all alone, my father spent all of his time working and working to earn money so when the time came, I could make my debut into society thus he was never around, and even if he was, he never spoke to me unless it was to reprimand me for something. My mother was the same, if not worse. Of course, she did not work, how could a lady work? All they are born for is to marry someone rich, give them their heirs and spend their life forming their daughters into proper ladies. Or so she used to say. At least that is what she molded me into.” You did not even know why you were telling him this, but your mouth didn’t seem to want to stop, wanting to let everything out.
“Point is – “ You said “They were never there for me when I needed, they were never loving towards me despite being their only daughter. But they did everything so I could have a better life than they did and I loved and respected them” Anthony stayed silent, letting me get everything off my chest
“I loved and respected them until they turned their backs on me, that is” You admitted “Ever since that awful night, they disowned me, blamed me for ruining their reputations, as if it was my fault, they were never caring but I would have thought that me being their daughter would have meant something, that they would support me through everything and, Surprise! Surprise! It was the exact opposite.” You scoffed incredulously, you sighed and grabbed the book you previously discarded, thinking the conversation was done when you finished talking.
”I had to grow quicker than all of my siblings” Anthony admitted smiling sadly “I was 18…. when my father… died…. We had gone that day to hunt just the two of us and as we were heading back here, we stopped to pick some of the flowers out front” he pointed out the window
“He was stung by a bee. He had turned out to be allergic and before we could call for the doctor, he was gone” he pursed his lips “Just like that, at 18 years old, I was made the viscount. I had to switch from being a brother to being a father figure to my siblings in a matter of moments. I was entering a new stage in my life as a teenager and I did not even get to fully experience it from having to grow up sooner than I thought” you sighed and hesitated before you put your hand on top of his as a comforting gesture, one he smiled gratefully at. “I spent all of my time in the next 10 years either working or, and I am ashamed to admit it, frolicking around with women.”
“My mother was destroyed when my father died, she was always in her room, never really ate anything, could not even check on little Hyacinth from how heartbroken she was. That was the moment when I decided that I could not, and would not marry for love and have someone suffer the same fate as my mother did, as I could not even bare the thought that I could ever surpass my father in anything, much less surpass him in age” He sighed before his eyes seemed to brighten up “Then I met Kate, and she changed my perception on love, Kate was my soul mate. As you probably know, I had initially proposed to Ms. Edwina, she was the diamond of the season and since I was not planning to marry for love, I thought she was the best option, that she was well suited to be my wife, she did fit all of my requirements. But little did I know that trying to pursue her would be hard as she had a sister who did not like me one bit. Kate and I fought all the time, we could not stand to be in the same place for even a minute. But everything changed when I invited them here, some things happened and everything between Kate and I changed, we fell in love. We went through some hardships but in the end, we overcame it all, we were happy, we were expecting a child, everything was fine until she died” he lowered his head, you looked at him sadly, tears started to sting on your eyes before you blinked them away, composing yourself
“Kate was the best of us” you murmured looking back at the fireplace “ I don’t know how we will live peacefully without her” Lord Bridgerton nodded agreeing with you before he stood up
“If you excuse me, I still have work to do” he left without another word, you looked at the door he just walked through, understanding filling you, the wound still wasn’t healed after all but you were comforted knowing that this was a step closer to getting along.

The beef you have with Anthony on twitter is very pathetic and also the fact that you PRETEND Violet has haters when all that happened is that maybe a couple of kanthony shippers have said she was a bit too harsh with him cause god forbids audience members feel more connected with the protagonist and not his mom. Also the fact you want Kate to share screentime with Mary and Edwina again when she was treated like crap by them is not it for someone who claims to love Kate. But I guess it's not surprising when you're buddy buddy with that selcouth account who not so secretly hates Kanthony and Kate and has polite convo with the bloggers who call Kate a homewrecking whore. You know your friend writes fic in which Anthony is beaten up and Kate continues to be miserable post wedding for the sake of poor innocent Edwina? And thinks Anthony should give a fuck about Edwina doesn't let him call her by her first name? Tell your friend he eyefucked Kate at the altar in front of her, let me assure you edwina lovers he doesn't give a fuck about her brattiness the majesty. Leave Kate and Kanthony out of your mouth.
aww how sweet of you that you think y'all are the first people to dickride for anthony at the expense of female characters! i can assure you that i've been beefing with his stans since before kate's casting announcement. kathonies are not the first to drag violet to defend him, or even the first stans to demonise their male fave's mother while excusing his own behaviour. sienna/anthony shippers did the exact same thing long ago painting violet as the evil hag who wouldn't let poor little anthony run off into the sunset with sienna in s1.
also why the fuck wouldn't i want kate to fix her relationships with edwina and mary? i've criticised edwina repeatedly for never apologising to kate since day 1. that's something we never saw in s2 so yeah, i definitely want to see that and i consider necessary for them to rebuild their relationship on better terms after the wedding fiasco.
what i consider hypocritical as fuck is being totally ok with kate forgiving anthony when he hardly did enough to deserve her forgiveness after all the pain he put her through, but drawing the line at her stepmother and sister.
anthony literally ruined kate in 2x04 and not only didn't assume his responsibilities as he forced simon to do with daphne in s1, but had the nerve to propose to her sister the very next morning. so yeah, if i can support kate being with anthony in the s2 finale when he was calling her "the thorn easily removed" from his and edwina's lives just two episodes back, because that makes her happy, i can sure as hell root for her making up with the women that have been her entire world for the past 26 years as well.
as far as i'm concerned neither anthony nor edwina did right by kate in s2. edwina because she blamed her for anthony's actions and was ungrateful, when all kate had done was sacrifice after sacrifice for her to be happy. and anthony because he never showed kate the respect he demanded men to show to his sisters and chose to go after her baby sister only to publicly humiliate both sharma girls in front of anyone when they were at the altar.
i'm old enought to be able to form my own opinion about characters instead of joining fandom groupthink or liking/disliking them based on how their fanbase behaves. if that was my criterion i don't think there's a single ship i'd support in the bridgerton fandom, considering that i disagree with most kathony and benophie stans on twitter for always coddling anthony and benedict and excusing their misogyny.
and frankly, i'm extremely uncomfortable with the way you and many kathony stans talk about edwina. y'all are literally victim blaming an 18yo child for falling for a grownass man who went after her and ruined her in the eyes of society. you constanly infantilise anthony when he has more privilege than 99% of men in england, while spending your time talking shit about a teenage girl.
that's not holding edwina responsible for her behaviour towards kate, it's misogyny, plain and simple. she has every right to treat anthony like filth for the rest of her life after what he did to her and be protective of kate, like kate was of edwina when anthony was courting her, after his abhorrent treatment of both sisters.
a 30yo man not giving a fuck about a teenager he strung along and ruined isn't the gotcha that you think it is. except you clearly have such a sexist worldview that you consider him to be the "prize" edwina lost and kate won, rather than a man who hurt them both deeply and took advantage of his privilege over them.
if i should keep kate out of my mouth for wanting to see her have a healthy and wholesome relationship with her family, so should you people for being ok with anthony doing the bare minimum to win her after the hell he put her through.

I love your 5000 Miles universe so much and have to ask: did Benedict keep his mouth shut about Kate being back so the lovebirds could have Saturday all to themselves or did he let it slip?
OMG, I'm so happy you liked it <3 I just wanted to do something light and fun for Anthony's bday. I am so glad that people are excited about it. I'm considering writing either the Sunday Brunch or the Pub night with Sophie next but it's all still under planning. Is there anything you’d like to see?
Oh, yes he did, for a few reasons.
1- Anthony and Kate deserve some time together after spending so long apart and he's aware just how chaotic and insane their families are and there was a huge chance they'd show up to Anthony's house and probably spend the entire day there. They deserved some peace and quiet to enjoy themselves.
2- Anthony would definitively sneak into his flat at night and kill him in his sleep if he did let it slip and if Anthony did not do it, Kate probably would. If they did not plan his murder together. They were a surprisingly cohesive team for a couple who could not even be allowed to play Uno together. He loves his life too much, and he does not want to risk it. He’s gonna hang out with Sophie on Friday!
3- Benedict did enjoy watching the world burn and he had first-row tickets to the shit show that would be Anthony showing up with Kate on Sunday Brunch without a word. He might even innocently let out a comment about how Edwina must have known, because Kate would have told her she was home, right? A man has the right to entertain himself if the opportunity arises. And the opportunity certainly did not disappoint.
As follows, Benedict's representation of Benedict watching chaos unfold on Sunday Brunch:

Should You Need Me: 8 - Wait for me, please hang around
"I'm seeing someone."
Kaveri, Mary, and Edwina went silent mid laugh. Kate looked back at all of them around the dinner table, and she felt her anxiety stricken face relax into a smile she couldn't help whenever she thought of Anthony lately.
"Oh, Didi!" Edwina clapped her hands together. "The way your face just lit up. So cute!"
Kate chuckled. "Thanks, Ed."
"Mary, didn't I tell you? Did I not tell you?!" Kaveri pointed unnecessarily at Mary, who pushed her finger away with an eye roll.
"Yes, Kav. You did."
Kate furrowed her brows. "How could you have possibly known, Amma?"
"Well, I know it was something."
"I can confirm she said there was, quote, 'something.'" Mary deadpanned.
Kaveri waved dismissively. "Ignore her. It's just that… Things had been getting better but, a little while ago, you simply started glowing, Chellam. It's been beautiful to watch. We just didn't know why."
Kate wanted to grimace at the word "glowing," but as she looked at her family, all of whom looked so happy for her, she found the cliche didn't bother her one bit.
"Well…?" Edwina raised her eyebrow.
Right. Well, no dancing around it. "It's, um… It's Anthony Bridgerton."
Kate desperately hoped the expressions she was confronted with were caused simply by surprise, and not disappointment. Or suspicion. The latter thought made Kate wince.
"It's not… Nothing happened before Tom and I, um–And he wasn't the reason." Kate scrambled to find the right words to say. She didn't owe anyone an explanation and she certainly wasn't sorry for being with Anthony, but this was her family and–
Kate was too caught up in her complicated web of thoughts to notice her mother had gotten up and walked around the table to her. Mary had put one hand over Kate's. Edwina was shaking her head and beaming, unspent tears in her eyes.
"Kathani… Don't mind it." Kaveri wrapped her arms around her daughter. "You don't have to explain. We can't pick and choose who presents themselves to us in life or when it happens. We can't pick and choose our feelings, either. If you are worried that we don't know how much you love Tom, or that we won't welcome Anthony with open arms, or, goodness, that we think you did anything wrong, give us more credit, eh?"
Kate laughed a little as a couple of tears fell. "It's just, ugh, the timing is awful, isn't it? And the way we met…"
"Dearest, are you happy?" Mary asked as she patted Kate's hand.
"Yes. I think… Um, it's only been a couple of weeks, but I think this could be… I don't know. He's amazing. And he's wonderful to me. He's quite intense, it's…” Kate shrugged. It was simple, really. “I like it. I like him."
"Doesn't hurt that you'd be hard pressed to find someone as fit as he is, isn't that right, Mary? We've been looking!"
"Kaveri, this is supposed to be a nice moment," Edwina admonished.
"And Kate's boyfriend being an Adonis isn't nice? Are all eight of them such beautiful creatures? What about their mother? Mary couldn't find photos of all of them."
Kate's eyes narrowed as they slid over to Mary. "What does Amma mean, Mum?"
Kaveri clicked her tongue. "Mary may have done some Googling after we met your Mr. Bridgerton."
"Mum!" Kate and Edwina cried in unison.
Mary blushed. "I was simply…curious."
—
Kate was sitting up against the headboard in Anthony's bed. She stared at the now months old message to Tom that had gone unanswered.
If he never contacts me again, fine. I mean, it's not fine, but I can't do anything about it. I should still reach out today.
Hi. I hope with all of my heart you are doing well. I know I have no right to, but I miss you. I hope you had a lovely birthday today. You deserve the world, Tom. I love you.
"What's wrong?"
Kate looked up just as she was feeling tears pool in her eyes. Shit. Anthony was standing in the doorway, wearing a look of grave concern.
"Nothing." Kate turned away from him to put her phone on the nightstand and took the opportunity to wipe her eyes while she was facing in the other direction. She felt the mattress dip and turned back to see Anthony sitting on the bed, an arm outstretched, grasping her ankle. He rubbed it with his thumb and looked at Kate sternly.
"We don't lie to each other, Kate. What is it?"
Kate said nothing, just tied her hair up into a messy bun for the night. Buying time was pointless, though. Anthony was staring at her and she knew he wouldn't let this go.
"It's Tom's birthday."
Kate watched Anthony's entire countenance change instantly, like a switch had been flipped. It was the first direct mention of Tom since she and Anthony had decided to be together.
Anthony's grip on Kate's ankle tightened and his jaw clenched.
"OK," he said in a measured tone. "Why are you crying?"
Kate laughed mirthlessly and looked to the ceiling, shaking her head. "I don't know, Anthony. Maybe because my best friend hasn't spoken to me in months, and he probably never will again, and this was his first birthday since we were kids that we didn't spend together. Just a fucking guess."
Kate surprised herself with how easily she snapped. She looked at Anthony and was frustrated by his completely unreadable expression. He let go of her ankle and turned to sit away from her on the bed.
"I'm sorry you're going through this. And I'm sorry I haven't been more sensitive about it." Anthony was talking down at the floor, seemingly struggling to put the right words together.
Kate reached over to run her hand down his back when Anthony suddenly turned back around to look at her.
"You said your family knows about me? About us?"
What the fuck? "Of course, I told them last week."
"When can I meet them again? Do they not want to?"
Kate's brow furrowed at the unexpected question. "They want to. They told me to bring you around."
Relief flashed across Anthony's face, but it disappeared as fast as it showed up. "Do you want me to see your family again? Properly, as your boyfriend?"
"I do. It's just… early days. I just like our bubble, you know what I mean?"
Anthony nodded half-heartedly. "How long do you usually wait to bring someone home?"
"I've only had one other boyfriend, Anthony, and he was already home." Kate regretted it immediately. Why the fuck did I say it that way? Anthony's face made it so much worse. He looked so hurt. Kate hadn't seen him this vulnerable yet. He looked away again. Kate scrambled up behind him and put her arms around his waist. He didn't stop her, but he didn't engage either.
"I shouldn't have said it like that."
"How should you have said it, then? I think that made your point rather perfectly."
"I… I–"
"Honestly, Kate, forget it. It's true, and it's not anything I didn't already know."
Kate wasn't sure how to respond. They were silent for a few minutes. She continued to hold him, her cheek to his back.
"Anthony. Tom is a part of my family. At least, I hope he still is."
Kate didn't think it was possible, but Anthony tensed even more. She saw he was gripping the edge of the bed frame.
"That's just the way it is, Anthony. You have to be OK with that. You…" Kate took a breath and whispered, "You said you'd keep it in check. That you wouldn't be jealous."
"No, Kate, I said I'd try. And I am. I'm shit at it at the moment but I'm…trying, baby. I'll try harder. I just need time. OK?"
Kate squeezed him. "OK. Thank you."
Anthony put one of his hands over where Kate's met on his stomach. Both of their bodies relaxed a bit.
"Is that what it is, then? Everything about me will be compared to him? Do I even stand a chance?"
Kate tsked. "Oh, Anthony, that's not it, no. Come here, please." Kate backed up on the bed and tugged on one of Anthony's arms, encouraging him to turn around. She sat up on her knees and cradled his face in her hands as she looked down at him. She leaned in to kiss him, but Anthony softly shook his head and sighed.
"I don't want to be a secret, Kate. I want everyone to know you're mine and I'm yours. I'm proud you chose me, baby. Whatever I did that made you decide I was worth a shot, it's the best thing I've ever done."
Anthony pulled Kate's hands away from his face so he could hold them in his own.
"I want to meet your family as your boyfriend, not the man who's making your dress for a wedding to another fucking guy. We need a do over."
Kate nodded and brought her lips to Anthony’s. This time, he didn't stop her.
"OK. I'll talk to my mums and we'll plan something. Soon. I promise."
"Good."
"I'm proud, too, for the record. That you chose me."
—
Anthony approached Kate's classroom quietly. He peered into the room, watching her as she put easels and cups of brushes away, swaying to the neo soul that was playing from her computer speakers. She wore her hair up in a high ponytail. Her flowy dress was a brilliant cobalt blue underneath her well used black apron.
Anthony was content to simply watch Kate in her element, but he gave himself away when she popped a crisp into her mouth and made a face he'd started to associate with Kate being on the precipice of an orgasm. He laughed before he could stop himself. Kate looked over to where he stood in her doorway.
"Anthony? What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to deliver these." He pulled the bouquet of orange tulips he'd been holding from behind his back as he walked towards her.
"Oh, these are beautiful."
Anthony marvelled at Kate as she marvelled at the flowers. He took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry."
Kate looked up at him with a slight pout. "For what?"
"Last night. I was being selfish. I don't want to fight."
"Thank you, but… We aren't fighting."
"What?"
"We talked it through, Anthony. We aren't fighting."
"Oh." Anthony rubbed the back of his neck. "Huh."
Kate clicked her tongue as she gently put the flowers down on her desk. She placed her hands on Anthony's shoulders. “Isn't that a good thing? You seem disappointed."
"Oh, I'm not disappointed, per se…"
Kate squinted at him and pursed her lips. "But…?"
"I was just looking forward to the make up sex."
A laugh bubbled out of Kate as she said, "What?"
"Yeah, it was gonna be brilliant."
"If you thought we were still fighting, then what was this morning?"
"Fighting sex. Was that not obvious?"
Kate giggled before stumbling a bit in her search for a response. Her hands moved down to his chest. "Well, you were quite demanding and, um, fervent, but you're always kind of… full-on."
"Right." Anthony nodded, resigned.
"It's one of my favourite things about you, honestly," Kate earnestly reassured him. "And I just figured you were in such a hurry because we both had to get to work–"
"Hurry? Did you not…? I’m certain you–?" Anthony sputtered, offended at the implication.
Kate patted his cheek and laughed as she stepped back to take off her apron. Anthony rushed to get behind her.
"Allow me," he whispered, unnecessarily close to her ear. Undressing Kate had quickly become one of Anthony's favourite things, even when the goal wasn't nudity. He was taking a ridiculously long time to remove the simple garment, letting his hands wander, until Kate stilled them.
"Anthony," she warned. "I work here. With children."
"School day's long over, no? And are you using your teacher voice on me? Because I think it's having the opposite effect than what you're intending." He attempted to pull Kate backwards toward him, but she stepped out of the embrace.
"Colleagues, Anthony." She gestured towards her open door. "If you want your 'make up sex,' it's not going to happen here. Take me home."
"I thought I was the demanding one?"
"Oh, right." Kate walked up to Anthony, leaning into him until their lips were almost touching. "Maybe I need a reminder, hm? And perhaps a reprimand for forgetting?" She raised an eyebrow at him before grabbing her bag and leading him by the hand out of her classroom.

So I'm curious. How do the Bridgerton and the Isekai!Spouses cross bridges? Is it altogether? Or by order of the books? What was the catalyst that brought them together? And will Portia ever get her past memories back?
Anon asked: do the Bridgerton eventually end up together with the spouses in villain au ? and if yes, how do they manage to, since the spouses aren’t interested at all?
So yes eventually the Bridgertons and the Spouses do end up with one another. It is a slow process because for the spouses to even gain an interest in the Bridgertons much less let themselves think of them as a romantic option they have to overcome the big issue of the wedge between the two families, Portia and Violet’s relationship.
The MVPS for sorting through that mess are Lady Danbury and Lady Mary Sharma.
It started when Mary was having tea at Lady Danbury’s and the topic of the Portia’s avoidance of anything Bridgerton came up.
“It is odd, it’s like she’s scared of them at times, but if she and the Dowager Viscountess are even within ten feet of one another you could cut the tension with a knife,” Mary sighed. “Edwina says it is the same between the other children, extreme tension like they are going to either kiss or fight. Then there are times I wonder if Lady Bridgerton hates me from the stares she throws my way.”
Lady Danbury scoffed. “The old girl does not hate you she’s just jealous.”
Mary raised an eyebrow. “Jealous? What could she possibly be jealous of?”
“Your friendship with Portia of course,” Lady Danbury said like it was obvious. “Portia and Violet were quite close in their younger years, before their marriages.”
Mary had to set down her teacup or she fear she might drop it. “Portia never mentioned that. In fact she used to tell me before she moved to the country and changed her life that she was a bitter, cruel woman. She called herself a villainess.”
Lady Danbury nodded. “I suppose she had meant her married years with Lord Featherington. Being stuck in a miserable marriage with a man you can’t stand could potentially turn any woman bitter. But before that she was like any other girl you might find in the ton.”
Mary leaned forward, wanting to hear more. Portia was always vague on her past in a way that left Mary wondering if she was ashamed or she honestly could not remember. “What had happened after their marriages? I had heard that Lord and Lady Bridgerton was the rare love match.”
“They were,” Lady Danbury said. “In a way Violet did not have to leave behind girlhood fantasies the way Portia did, and that I believe is what worsened the divide in their friendship. Them falling pregnant around the same time three times had helped as they could turn to someone who knew what the other was going through.”
“But while one’s child was celebrated at the birth the other was met with disappointment,” Mary guessed. She was lucky that Miles was one of the rare few that had no care whether his children were boys or girls. He had told her that a young woman once told him that she believed all children deserved love. Miles took it to heart and that was how he managed to keep a relationship with Kate after her mother’s death. Portia didn’t seem to have that luck.
Lady Danbury tapped her cane. “Right on the mark. Portia also left around the time Lord Bridgerton died. To Violet both her closest adult relationships were gone. It does not surprise me she has tried to cling to the one she still has access to.”
“Do you believe they could reconcile?” Mary asked.
“My girl for the ton’s sanity they better.”
Thus starts the schemes to push Violet, Portia, and their families together, all leading up to a month long trip to Lady Danbury’s country estate where Lady Danbury and Mary are basically shoving them in a room together and locking the door.

Honestly, considering the show/writers never acknowledged Daphne’s marital rape of her husband, and they only had a slight acknowledgment of Edwina’s feelings on Kate x Anthony, like I don’t think there will be a satisfactory resolution to Pen’s betrayal of the Bridgertons (Marina/Colin and Eloise/Theo) or of Eloise’s “friendship” with Cressida (and anything else she might do as “revenge”).
I think they’ll blow over the latter “I said I’d rather die than be her friend and I still mean it” and hugs all around or some other scene like that (which I know is simple and that’s my point). And Pen will apologize and confess that cause she’s so in love with Colin and she wanted to be noticed and she’ll be forgiven without much else from Colin. And maybe a little more for Eloise, if that.
(Spoiler’s for the books in case people care about that).
They forgive her for Whistledown in the books, Colin is worried more about her being revealed as Whistledown than her writing shit about him (tho nothing she writes is like Marina/Colin is not in the books. Daphne basically forgives her for anything she wrote about that but tbh she doesn’t seem to mind anyway). And, they like sorta acknowledge it as “wtf” thing, but it’s blown over quickly imo. “Oh well that’s nice dear” sorta reaction. And Eloise does have even more of a backbone than in the books but idk I just don’t see why and what people seem to want out of Bridgerton.
Eloise is going to somehow befriend and fall in love with Crane! You’re telling me the girl running around with Theo and “radicals” will suddenly fall for the guy boring the fuck out of Marina?
Like, I’m sorry but Bridgerton is pretty people hooking up with a regency background. They will not “do right” by most people’s standards of how the characters should act and how to apologize (Daphne and Simon make up after professing deep love in the rain! Anthony is shocked into confessing for real cause Kate fell of a horse! It’s for DRAMA, and then it’s resolved kinda easily?)
I’ve seen some more of nuanced takes against Pen, at least these people aren’t reducing her to a fat villain (cause when they did that I could not take them seriously 😒). And honestly a lot of it is fair, that’s good! The writers don’t care.
But now I keep seeing people hating Eloise to the point that they want a comeuppance that is not proportional to her “revenge”…and like… it won’t be as serious as y’all are making it to be. This “revenge”. Like please, the writers aren’t going to suddenly take this world seriously. See above and those are just 1 example for each season!
If they wanted to acknowledge all the hurt Pen put people through and make her work to become a better person, they could! I just don’t think they will because it’s 8 episodes per season and in this season they’re trying to find a way to get Colin and Pen together and Eloise and Pen as friends again by end of season. I don’t think they’ll extend a conflict into Ben’s season (I actually hope they don’t, I like Ben and Sophie’s story for the most part and while I love Anthony and Kate they shouldn’t be the focus either).
Idk what people expect I guess. if you’re watching it for Pen to be taken down a notch… might not be the season for you. If you’re hate watching I guess tag it with “anti” whatever and not the regular tags?
I’m sorry if you think she does not deserve an happy ending, I don’t necessarily disagree that she’s undeserving of some crow eating for what she’s done. However, I don’t think the writers care to make her go through that. And I don’t watch Bridgerton for brilliant character development that I think some of y’all want.
That being said I’m curious about how they’ll manage LW post Colin x Penelope marriage. In the books it basically disappears, and maybe they can use that to have a build up to Pen! However that means to me making their relationship last longer than as season and I do not want that for any of the couples.

Oooooh I would love to read an elopement au! I was disappointed we didn’t get to see Kate and Anthony talk about why he was so dead set against a love match, and how she probably spent the season thinking that he was attracted to her but refusing to pursue her due to classist bullshit. Without her accident it’s an even more emotionally complex situation for the Sharmas and I would love to read your take on it, since you clearly also love Edwina and Mary and would do right be them
I don’t think Anthony not pursuing Kate had anything really to do with class, I actually got the impression he did not care at all once he found out who she was. I think him trying to marry Edwina was more about what was expected of him and she was considered the “best.” But yeah I could see why Kate might have thought that especially what she overheard him say at the conservatory ball.
The class aspect in Kate’s life is interesting, especially also considering the caste system in India. Why couldn’t she marry for the sake of her family? Does it all come back to her parentage? Were they a scandalous couple? Did Kate’s father somehow (knowingly, unknowingly) enforce this idea on Kate that Mary and Edwina were “special” because they had noble blood? (You’d be surprised the marks parents leave behind unintentionally) There’s just so many questions.
The accident I thought was such a cheap resolution in the series. Nah, give me the the tense uncomfortable conversations. Yeah, tragedy reminds us what matters most but I don’t think a lot of their issues were resolved.
Basically, I like to write them all (Sharmas, Bridgertons, etc) as humans. No one is only good, or bad. No one is evil, no one is a saint. There’s poor choices, selfish reasons, and lashing out. Some consequences deserved, others not. There’s sacrifice, even when it isn’t understood. Everyone has their reasons. Everyone has trouble communicating, even at the best of times. And everyone needs to grow. If you stop growing, you die.

Hi Molly, I know you've given us a LOT this weekend already, and honestly you deserve a break. but if you are planning on doing a spicy sunday, can we see our taylor swift loving elder siblings' first date and then some?
Oh Lordy.
Here we go
Kate genuinely hadn’t thought he would call. She really hadn’t. They’d filed out of the stadium, Anthony’s sister on his hip, falling asleep on his shoulder and he’d smiled at her.
“I um- I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Sure.”
He’d ducked his head, and his smile had been so adorable, “We’ll get something to drink or maybe… if you eat dinner?”
“I eat dinner sometimes, yeah.” She’d shrugged, trying not to let her stomach swoop.
“Cool, right. I better get these ones home.”
“It was nice to meet you, Anthony.”
She’d woken this morning with her throat a little scratchy to the sound of her phone ringing. She picked it up, not really paying attention
“Kate, we need to talk!”
“Dad?” She sat up, rubbing her eyes. “Is everything okay? It’s really early.”
“I don’t know!” He squawked, “Are you okay?!”
“Um… I’m fine, the concert was really cool.”
“Did your fiancé enjoy it?”
Kate’s stomach dropped, “Fucking Edwina.”
“How could you not tell me you were seeing someone this seriously?!”
“Dad, I dropped my bracelet. He didn’t propose to me.” Kate rolled her eyes, scratching Newton behind the ears as she stood from the bed.
“Then why did you kiss hi?!”
Kate froze, “I didn’t realise the video you saw went that far.”
“Kate!”
She rolled her eyes, “Dad, it was literally just a kiss. We got carried away. I’m never going to see that guy again.”
“Well I-”
“Katie.” Mary’s voice sighed, cutting off her dad. “I’ll manage Dad’s panic attack, I’m glad you had fun, sweetheart.”
A beep sounded in Kate’s ear and she sighed, “Mumma some else is trying to call me, tell Dad I’ll see him tomorrow.”
Kate sighed, frowning a little at the unknown number before she picked it up. “Hey, this is Kate.”
“Kate, Hi.”
She recognised the voice from last night, soft and warm like his hands gently cupping her cheeks had been. “Oh.”
“It’s um… it’s Anthony.” He cleared his throat, “ We um… we sat next to one another at Wembley last night?”
“You’re going to have to be more specific.” Kate chuckled, unable to resist the urge to tease him.
“Oh, um… you and I… we kissed?”
“Eh, you might have to be more specific again.”
“Oh! Well, I’ve got dark hair. And-”
“Anthony I’m fucking with you.” Kate sighed, her heart fluttering in her chest, “I remember the kiss. You are a very tender kisser.”
“I’m tender when I do a lot of things.” Anthony breathed, his voice deepening, “I want to take you out tonight.”
“I actually… don’t know if I’m going to eat dinner tonight.”
“That’s okay.” Anthony clicked his tongue, “I’m opening to eating a lot of things besides food if you’re willing.”
The wind had been knocked out of her lungs, “Jesus fucking- Where do you want to meet?”
She should have felt more nervous. She had in the cab on the way to the restaurant. And she had when she’d waited nervously outside until Anthony’s head had popped out of the restaurant.
“Sorry! I already grabbed our table, I’m a bit of an early bird.”
He smelled lightly of cologne when he kissed her cheek and her cheeks burned as he showed her through the restaurant, his eyes dancing at her.
“You are really beautiful. I don’t think I said that last night I just… you caught me by surprise is all.”
Kate nodded as she sat down across from him and awkwardness swelled between the for a moment before she sighed, “Sorry, this is really awkward.”
“Eh, doesn’t have to be. We’ll order drinks first and if you hate to you can go.”
They’d ordered drinks and fallen into conversation oddly naturally until his phone rang and his face fell as he excused himself, hissing into the phone.
“Well I’ll never get the chance to marry her if you don’t hang up the phone mum!”
Ridiculous laughter bubbled in her chest as he hung up, his cheeks flushed and when the waiter came over she took a menu and watched Anthonys boulders relax.
Anthony walked her to the front of her building when the waiter had nudged them out ours later and his jacket was draped over her shoulders something awkward between them.
“I um… I don’t want you to think I… expect anything from this.” He cleared his throat. “I… just… I had a good time and I like you and-”
“Technically half the internet thinks we’re getting married.”
“True.” Anthony clicked his tongue. “That being said… Maybe we should…”
“Wait to sleep together?”
His body moved closer to hers and she felt her hand twist in the front of his shirt even as he nodded, “Yeah we should… we should wait.”
“So we’re waiting.” Kate had felt breathless as she tugged him inside the building, “You’re just coming up to get out of the cold.”
“Yeah, I’m freezing.” Anthony groaned as the lift opened behind them and he stumbled forward.
Their lips were only millimetres apart and Kate could feel the rise and fall of his laboured breathing and the warmth of his body and a moan rumbled in her throat. She reached forward pressing the emergency stop and Anthony’s lips crashed against hers.
It was different than it had been last night, when they’d been carried away and their lips found one another while the crowd cheered. This was quieter, and Edwina’s hand was patting her on the shoulder but Anthony’s kiss was nowhere near as tender. His hands were tight on her waist and the wall of his chest was firm as he pressed forward until she was stuck between him and the lift. His tongue swept roughly over hers, stoking the fire that was slowly burning between them and she felt her legs fall open. Anthony’s hands tightened and he lifted her onto the railing, the palm of his hand warm over her calf as it slid up her leg and a satisfied purr rumbled through his chest.
His hair fell into his eyes and it made him somehow even more handsome as she pulled him closer.
“We’re not going to have sex.”
Kate shook her head but her hips arched against his as he nipped at her neck. “We’re not having sex.”
Anthony nodded and his hand slipped further up the leg hooked around his hip, drawing him closer again and Kate could feel her fingertips on the edge of her underwear as heat licked at her stomach, pushing her forward.
“But on the other hand.” Anthony’s teeth bit into her neck, “What kind of internet husband would I be if I didn’t make you feel… something for me?”
Kate could stop the whine that fell from her chest, and her voice was breathless “Not a very good one.”
“Well, I want to be a very good boy.”
His eyes were asking her, begging her and Kate nodded as her hips rocked forward against his fingers.
“oh, fuck Kate, I can feel how much you want me.”
They hadn’t even slipped into her underwear yet and already her eyes were rolling back in her head and her leg drew him in impossibly closer. They were breathing the same air now. Every breath that left her was drawn into his lungs and passed back and the tension in the elevator was thick as Anthony’s hand moved slowly against her. His lips were still on her neck, sucking gently and he whispered filthy nothing in her ear as they moved slowly together.
Her entire body was on fire, it felt like as her hand cupped his neck and drew their lips back together in a filthy kiss and her mind couldn’t quite keep up. The sweet man who’d taken his sister to a concert had her grinding against his fingers in the lift of her building.
“Oh Good girl.”
His fingers slipped under the fabric, pushing inside her and a whine fell from her lips as he circled her gently. Anthony caught her hand from his neck and his eyes locked with hers as her hips bucked against the feel of his hand. he held her hand against his lips and sucked her thumb into his mouth his eyes darkening and Kate’s eyes rolled back in her head.
His fingers started moving faster and she could feel him against her thigh, his hips searching for friction as he ground against her. Anthony’s hand fisted in her hair to prevent her head banging against the wall as he started moving faster and faster pushing her closer to the edge as heat coiled tightly in her stomach. She was so close she could almost taste it. She could taste Anthony on her tongue and smell his cologne and his voice in her ear made her spine shiver against him.
“Come. Kate.”
She fell over the edge with a sharp shout and her vision blurred as her body shook against him, her legs holding him in place.
Her legs could barely support her, When Anthony set her down, kissing her quickly before he drew his fingers into his mouth sucking loudly. He winked at her as he let turned off the emergency brake and stepped out into the lobby as the door opened.
“I’ll call you tomorrow, Kate.”
And Kate was left staring after him “What the fuck?!”

Sharma Family prompt suggestion
A Sharma family holiday fic with husbands and children, the sisters doting on each other’s babies and Mary as the matriarch… just some family fuzzy feels
Thank you xoxo
Thank you so much for the prompt! Now since you mentioned babies, I was toying between having Edwina be with Friedrich in this (as I ship them together) or having Mary, while holding Edmund, imagining Edwina having kids of her own, and I think I can fit both storylines. I know that you said holiday, but I changed it to Mary's birthday so I hope that's all right. I'm super nervous, as this is my first time writing for an ask, but I hope you like it!
The Bridgerton family's ancestral home of Aubrey Hall held an atmosphere of joyous momentum, lightened spirits and warm hearts flooding the halls as the members of the household flocked every corner. It was the Viscountess Bridgerton's dear mother's, Mary Sharma, birthday and had been a long awaited event of celebration for the family. Though Mary had been very adamant on not wanting to trouble anyone even with the special day, her daughters had been most insistent and had dragged many of the other Bridgertons into it. Anthony had proclaimed very vocally that they were family following a few years after he and Kate were wed, and hoping to clear out any doubt of belonging with the Bridgerton family from Mary's and, when the awkwardness between them had settled, Edwina's minds.
They were family, and deserved to be celebrated on special days such as birthdays.
Violet was ever most excited for the celebration, having come to find herself considering Mary as one of her closest friends during their time together, spending hours upon hours talking away over tea from the lives of their children, their desire for more grandchildren to spoil, to the gossip of the Ton (though amongst anyone but themselves or Lady Danbury, they would pretend to hold little interest). Practically attached to Kate's hip, the pair were an unstoppable force as they had set plans for the event in motion long before they had even reached Aubrey Hall.
Mary could only laugh sweetly as she watched those she had come to view as family and taken into her heart hurried around to prepare final details, all for a celebration just for her. She could recall birthdays, her own, being one of little joyful experiences given the nature of her parents. Always so serious, hardly ever allowing for her to have a moment to feel any sort of excitement towards her special day. It wasn't until she met her love, the most wonderful man to ever grace the Earth, that she began to change her views toward her birthday. And that new view fell onto their daughters, who would only know happiness and love on their birthdays and never anything else. Mary nearly felt like bursting into tears then and there as she watched Kate, from her hidden spot as to avoid spoiling any surprises, discuss adamantly with the staff on the arrangement of flowers that she knew her mother would love most so.
While there would forever be moments of hurt and sadness that had left Mary clinging to her eldest daughter, to lift the great burden from her shoulders that she was never meant to carry, there would be moments of endless delight and amity as she and Kate were now closer than ever, and growing more and more as the years went by. When she had discovered that Kate was with a child, her first, Mary could not help but be elated. However, upon seeing the hesitant look in Kate's eyes, she swallowed her own feelings and sought to provide comfort that her daughter had so desperately needed. When Kate had asked for her to be by her side during the delivery, Mary simply smiled warmly as she held every intention of being there for her daughter.
A small whine drew Mary's attention to the toddler in her arms, the product of Kate's and Anthony's love and the newest piece within Mary's heart. Edmund was only three and yet had Mary wishing that she could slow time, and keep him small forever. He had once held a ball of energy earlier in the day, only growing more and more when Friedrich appeared and swept him under his arms. The boy had been most fond of his uncle, and the pair had nearly toured the whole gardens before returning inside with, surprisingly, little stains from their adventure (Kate had Friedrich to thank, as the idea of having to bathe her energetic son was the last thing on her list).
Though Edmund's childish glee quickly became bashful when he tucked himself into his aunt's arms, peering up at Edwina with such innocent eyes that it nearly had the latter swooning. Kate had commented that she had a hunch that, once Edmund had been born, he would be spoiled rotten by just Edwina alone to which the princess had smiled cheerily and blew a series of wet kisses onto her nephew's round cheeks. With Friedrich in the picture, Mary had mentioned, the level of presents that her grandson had regularly received would double.
Whispering softly into her grandson's ears, she rocked him gently and watched as his long lashes flutter before he fell into a slumber against her chest. Anthony had offered to take the young boy from her, worrying that his boundless energy may tire her, but Mary had shook her head. "I had to raise Kate and Edwina, trust me, Edmund is a piece of cake compared to the two of them, especially when they started scheming with one another."
Anthony shook his head fondly. "Believe me, I've come to find that out. Those two are bound to come up with something if you leave them alone long enough."
"Is that so?" Came a voice. Anthony blanched but Mary could merely chuckle as Kate moved over to the pair, placing a loving kiss of her son's hairline and smiling warmly at her mother before regarding her husband with a raised brow. "You were saying dear husband?"
As Mary stared down at the sleeping boy as his parents playfully jested with one another, but couldn't help but trail her eyes toward her youngest, Edwina. Her sweet girl, who overcame such a challenging period in her life during her first season and those following, a period in which Mary had feared her daughter would never escape. But Edwina was always strong, both her girls were. And when Edwina had caught the eyes of a prince who, at first had left Mary on the fence as, even with his charm and respectful demeanor, her protective instincts kicked in and left her seeking nothing more than to hide Edwina from the world. It wasn't until she had witnessed Friedrich so fiercely defend Edwina from cruelty that she had a change of heart. Mary told him this at the wedding, and Friedrich had simply kissed her cheek and promised to protect and defend Edwina with everything he had, as well as love her as she deserved. It was second nature, he had said, like breathing.
When she looked at Edwina, carrying a sense of peace within herself that she had nearly lost, sharing such loving graces and glances with Friedrich, Mary could only wish that her own love was there to see how happy their daughters were. Hugging Edmund closer to her chest, Mary sighed fondly as she imagined another little pair of feet following after him, whether a boy or girl she could care less, but Mary hoped that they would have Edwina's sweet smile and doe eyes, as well as their father's head of curls and freckled cheeks. Such a cute baby the pair would have, Mary was sure but held small uncertainty with bringing up the fact with her youngest, who had found herself struggling with conceiving. She could remember how a downcast expression had been a more common sight on a usually more cheerful Edwina and it left Mary wanting nothing more than to wash it away.
"If I had to wish for something most dear," Mary had thought, "then it would to be for Edwina and Friedrich to be blessed with a gift such as I have had, all those years ago."
She could wish.
Mary furrowed slightly as she watched her youngest and son-in-law in question as they moved to a secluded corner, attempting to move away from any curious eyes. She had noticed how Friedrich had, after greeting all in attendance and charmingly waving off her protest at all the gifts he had brought with a simple kiss to her cheek and boyish wink, remained ever close to Edwina's side for most of the day save when she was beside Kate, who studied her sister with a curious eye. It wasn't necessarily unlike the prince to be so close with his dear princess, but Mary held a suspicion when she noticed Edwina only nibbled on small foods and drank tea with a subtle hint of ginger.
A small flutter of hope birthed in Mary's chest, and as she watched Friedrich gently place his palm over Edwina's stomach, eyes alight with a similar look that Mary's love had held when he had found out she was carrying, tears of pride and happiness bore from Mary's eyes even as she tried to swiftly hide them, for even though this was the best present that she could ask for, she would wait until Edwina was ready to share.
Her parents made her despise her birthdays. Her husband made her find joy in them. And her daughters, her beautiful and precious daughters, made her feel intense love that she would cherish to the end of her days.
"Mama," a series of hands grabbed her shoulders and Mary snapped out her daze to see her two girls sitting on either side of her, worry painting their expressions as they brushed crestfallen tears from their mother's face. Anthony and Friedrich stood before her, boh wearing looks of worry as Kate asked. "Are you all right?"
"Are you feeling ill?" Edwina nurturingly placed her hand against her mother's forehead, only to frown. "You don't feel warm."
Friedrich stepped forward, ducking his head slightly. "Would you like for Anthony and I to bring you something, ma'am?" At that, Anthony looked nearly ready to bolt for the nearest horse and ride to find the closest doctor when Mary had quickly waved them off, trying to smother their worry.
"Please, please, don't fret," she sent Friedrich a stern but soft look. "I thought I told you to call me mama?"
Friedrich only smiled at her words, forgetting in his concern for her, bowing his head in apology. "Forgive me. But, are you well?"
Mary reached to grab both her daughters' hands, all while still holding a sleeping Edmund, leaning to rest her head on Edwina's shoulder. "I am the happiest that I could ever be, and then some."
Kate and Edwina shared a knowing look, quickly reassuring their husbands that there was nothing to be concerned about before leaning into their mother's side.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
The frenzy competition, the thrilling delight of hassling your all, I am referring no to the lure of London luxurious gaming halls, but to a gamble of far higher stakes.
Matrimony.
For, once that particular wager is placed, it cannot easily be undone, a fact of which I am sure, is met with both, regret and sheer relief .
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
My chest heaves up and down rapidly, I flutter my brise fan, trying calm down.
“Calm down, bon” Kate says from beside me
The doors open in front of us, Anthony stepping through them. He walks closer to us, holding my stare as he does so. My heart races quickly.
“Miss Sharma” he greets Kate, making me look down.
I let out a sigh and walk into the room after him, Kate following behind. Everyone was already sitting. I sit down on an armchair, Kate next to me.
“Now, tell me of your wedding plans” The queen urges them, I look at Edwina and Anthony “There is no talk of a special license, I would hope” they chuckle nervously
“Of course not, your majesty” Mama assures her
“I believe a modest family affair would be fitting” Anthony adds “Perhaps back at the country, at Aubrey Hall”
“In the country” the queen raises an eyebrow “No, that would not do, you must have it here, in town, in fact, I should host the nuptials, myself” Edwina laughs cheerfully. I wipe my hands on my dress, smiling slightly.
“That is most generous, ma’am”
“Most generous”
“But not at all necessary-“
“nonsense” the queen cut Anthony off “ She is my diamond, after all, it is only right I give you both a wedding of that title” I grab a cup of tea to distract myself, swirling the spoon.
“Besides, one could almost credit me, myself, with bringing about this illustrious match” I stare at them as thoughts consume me, thinking back to a few nights before. Anthony looks back at me, sensing my stare.
“Can you believe it sisters” Edwina asks Kate and I “It is like a fairytale come true”
“You deserve nothing less, bon” I smile at her, Kate nodding agreeing
“Nothing less, for a true love match” the cup shakes my in hand, almost falling off.
“My apologies, your majesty” I say
“It is alright, my dear” the queen waves me off “Miss Y/n, now that you are here, there is someone I want you to meet.” I look at her questioningly
“A family friend” She explains “The Duke of Fairfield, I would rather think you both would make a marvelous match” I could feel Anthony’s stare on my face
“I would be most honored, indeed, your majesty” I say making her smile
“Perfect!” She exclaims “He will be there to see you in a few hours, the earlier you get to know him, the better”
“And we may just have two weddings done by the end of this season” my smile dimmed as I looked down at my tea cup.
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
“I do wonder about the trim” Edwina said as she tried on a wedding dress “Is it too much?”
“No” mama laughed “ Nothing is too much now that the queen is hosting”
“Let me show you the French tulle” Madame Delacroix offers
“Did I tell you both we will be married by the archbishop himself?” Edwina questioned, I turned my head towards her.
“Several times” Kate mused
“We must find you a dress too”
“Oh, we have plenty of dresses”
“This one must be special” She urged “and y/n, don’t you want to impress the Duke, I’ve seen you both get closer” a smile came onto my face.
Ah yes, the Duke of Fairfield, Louis Matthews. He is a young, handsome man of seven and twenty, he is kind, has a good sense of humor and very attentive. We share a lot of interests and I am sure I would have fallen in love with him, If only I met him first. Unfortunately, I didn’t.
“the Duke will not care what I wear, bon” I mused
“Besides, this wedding is very much your triumph as it is mine” She smiled at me “after all, whatever you said to the Viscount back at Aubrey Hall, clearly swayed him to declare himself” of course.
“I cannot claim credit”
“I shall bestow it all the same, it will be so exciting living in London, the Viscount said there might be snow this winter, won’t that be exciting”
“ May you recall that Y/n and I are returning back to India once you are married” Kate tells her
“But what about the Duke?” She frowns
“I may not even marry him, Edwina, it is not certain” I shook my head, sighing “ And even if I did, the Duke lives in Birmingham”
“But you both will return to visit, of course”
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
“Thank you, Clara, that will be all” I smiled at the maid and climbed up the stairs.
I walk past the drawing room before stopping and entering. “Lord Bridgerton?”
“Miss Y/n”
“Lord Bridgerton and his guest are waiting!” A footman stumbles in quickly, growing sheepish once he noticed us all staring at him.
“I see that, thank you” I sighed taking off my gloves
“This is the jeweler” Anthony nods to the man next to him “ We are to have Miss Edwina’s betrothal ring altered to fit”
“I am afraid my sister and my mother have not yet returned home” I smiled
“Of course, we should trouble you no further” he made to leave before the jeweler stopped him
“Is that cake?” He pointed to the table
“It is, indeed”
“lemon? I fancy a good lemon” he chuckles, I sighed frustrated
“Might I offer you some refreshments, Mr…”
“Brooks, only if you insist” he started to serve himself, I sighed and went to sit down on a chair
I looked at the Viscount who paced desperately. He turned his head towards me.
“It is a fine weather we are having Miss Y/n, I s it not?” I raised an eyebrow, humming
“You wish to speak to me about the weather?” I scoffed
“Is there another topic of conversation that would be more appropriate?” I stood up and walked closer to him
“There is nothing appropriate about what you are doing, proceeding with this engagement” I whispered furiously, insinuating about what happened, or what almost happened, between us.
“On the contrary, I believe it is the most proper outcome for all”
“Oh” I say “And what of everything that passed between us at Aubrey Hall?” I whispered
“Nothing passes between us, I am a gentleman, that was something that should not have happened and never will” I felt a sting in my chest
“Is that so?” I scoff to hide my pain “ might I remind you sir, if anyone other than your sister discovered us in that library, that night, then we too, would be obliged to wed”
“Nothing happened in that library, and even if someone else did discover us, they would think nothing of it, I was pursuing your sister, why would I change my mind from Miss Edwina to you?”
I looked at him with hurt plastered on my face, tears sting my eyes. I stepped further way from him, smiling sadly. “Of course”
“No, wait-“ panic filled his face “ I did not me-“
“Miss Y/n-“ Mr. Brooks started
“If that would be all gentlemen, you can wait for my mother and sister if you like, I must bid my farewell” I left the room, ignoring Anthony’s calls, wiping away my tears.
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
I breath in the fresh air of the park. The Duke walking by my side. We were currently promenading, Anthony and Edwina in front of us, Kate and Lady Danbury behind us.
“Are you okay? ”Louis asks “You seem a little down” I look up at him, before looking in front towards Edwina and Anthony, and back at him again.
“I” I sighed “ I am so sorry, my mind seems to he elsewhere ” I apologize, he chuckles
“You are in love with the Viscount” he affirms, I look at him with wide eyes
“What? Of course not!” I exclaim
“It is obvious” he chuckles, I sighed
“I am so sorry, your grace, I promise I was not leading you on or anything” I explain
“You do not need to explain anything” he says “ Although, I’ll just say, I do not care that you love him” I look at him confused
“You are a wonderful woman, and to be honest, I wish to marry you” I gape at him “I will try my best to woo you, if only you give me a chance, I cannot make you forget about your feelings for him, but maybe with time you will” I smile happily
“Alright” I laugh “Courtship first, your grace, although I do not promise anything”
“That is more than enough, and you may call me Louis, none of that, your grace, nonsense” he laughs “now, accompany me on a turn around the lake”
“ I would be delighted”
We walk towards the boats, walking past Anthony, Edwina and Lady Bridgerton, nodding in greeting and continuing our path.
“There is something I must admit” Louis says chuckling as we board the boats “I am afraid of riding on a boat”
“Why would you ask me to ride one then?” I smiled confused
“Well I wanted to do something sweet” he complains “ this seemed the perfect thing to do” I laugh
After a few minutes of laughter, jokes and talking. We return back to the port, Louis trying to tie the rope while we talk.
“I see you are smiling, deedee” Edwina approaches us, Anthony behind her. “See the amusements London has to offer?”
“indeed I have, maybe something, or someone, will change my mind, after all” I smile making Louis laugh, I pay no attention to Anthony’s figure behind Edwina.
“I hope I am that reason, Miss Y/n” Louis teases
“ just Y/n, please” I say
“That knot will never hold” Anthony says sourly and goes to help Louis
“It is perfectly adequate”
“Then I must question your skills, your grace” Anthony looks over at me while I roll my eyes “Allow me” Louis huffs and steps out of the boat, holding his hand out to me.
“Pardon me” Anthony says and holds his hand out also, Louis, once again, huffs and withdraws his hand
“the Duke was going to help me” I raise an eyebrow
“Just accept my hand” he sighs “please” I accept it and he pulls me out of the boat.
He holds my hand for a minute too long before I withdraw it harshly, making him stumble back and trip on Newton, who was laying down behind him. Taking Louis down into the lake with him. We all gasp, before I start laughing.
“Your grace, are you hurt?” I ask Louis who is laughing
“I am fine, thank you for asking” Anthony says angrily, taking off his cravat, his white shirt sticking to his body.
“Your grace” I hold my hand out towards Louis “You may catch a cold” he accepts my hand and steps up into the port, I hold his hand and walk away along with him.
“Oh yes, thank you for worrying about me also, Miss Y/n, what a caring future sister in law, you are” Anthony scoffs sarcastically, I ignore him.
I turn my head back and saw Anthony watching us walk away with an unreadable look on his face. I shook my head and turn back around
He is not my problem to worry about.

more unpopular kate/kathony (kanthony?) opinions! - bridgerton 2.07 review
1. I’m watching this like, wow Edwina doesn’t get a happy ending. Hell, even in the Directors’ Cut of LOTR, Eowyn gets with Faramir!
2. Oh great, is Kate going to masturbate to the memory of her kissing Anthony the Mouse?
3. She looks so stiff in that kiss though.
4. Yes.
5. This entire situation reminds me of this part of Poor Unfortunate Souls
6. They’re so going to change the lyrics in the live action. Anyway, off-topic.
7. And Kate just looks annoyed that Edwina won’t talk to her rather than contrite.
8. I just find the Bridgerton family extremely annoying.
9. “Reputation! Reputation!” Oh my god, Anthony is a man, he’ll be FINE.
10. “I give credit to your imagination, Miss Danbury, a bigger story I cannot foresee.” Lmao, maybe don’t speak, Kate?
11. AND THEY GAZE AT EACH OTHER ACROSS THE PROMENADE BECAUSE THEY ARE IN LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE.
12. Even though Edwina is right there and all of the ton is watching because looooooooooooooooooooove.
13. I just don’t have time for Olitz-like ships.
14. This Eloise scene is long.
15. “A ball.” Ha, Edwina’s eye roll, she deserves her own show.
16. NOW THAT ANTHONY IS NO LONGER LIVING A LIE, THE DOG FINDS HIM SUITABLE AND DOGS ARE GREAT JUDGES OF CHARACTER. TRUE LOVE WILL ALWAYS SET YOU FREE.
17. Lmao, sorry, I find this love story insufferable.
18. omg guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys, he just can’t HELP but stare at her
19. I just feel like Edwina deserves to do the Regency version of this to Anthony
20. Their love and attraction is SO POWERFUL that they’ll have to stay on OTHER SIDES OF THE ROOM DURING THE BALL.
21. Ugh.
22. I don’t know if I can live through another Kathony dance.
23. Derry Girls Clare should just be Belle.
24. Mouse Man Mouse Man
25. HE GOT A WHIFF OF HER PERFUME AND NOW HE IS IN HEAVEN, RELISHING THE SCENT OF HER.
26. And this is the other thing too, Kate is extremely passive. Like, OK Edwina doesn’t want to talk to her but if she’s supposed to want her happiness more than anything, if this is supposed to be killing her inside, then at least try to make amends but she’s just standing around looking wooden and maybe sometimes catching Anthony’s eye.
27. Oh jesus christ are eloise and whatshisface going to kiss now that they’re arguing?
28. No. Good.
29.
I mean has it though?
30. “I am reaping the consequences of destroying it” girl, you’re masturbating in bed. Like just be HONEST.
31. “Happy endings do not exist, Kate” well, not for you, Edwina, but they will for her.
32. Anthony is so fucking shameless.
33. “We should be ashamed of what we did” and there’s going to be a speech about how he’s not ashamed or how she’s not ashamed, a Delena “I’m not sorry” speech. I don’t care.
34. WHY is Colin a character? WHAT DOES HE DO.
35. He gives sooooooooooo much more than she does. He carries them, honestly.
35. Oh yes, sniping and arguing, which is just their foreplay. I’m bored. We’ve done this already.
36. Yes, yes, consume
I feel like the only time I’ve ever been like I get it, they didn’t even use the world consume
37. Oh they do make him do the “Do you think I want to be in this position” McDreamy “DO YOU THINK I WANT TO LOOK AT YOU” the more they drag this out, the more impatient I become and not in the way they want. I feel like Garrett from Superstore but instead of affair it’s get together
38. Anthony: I’ve lived my life for my family. Kate: OMG SAME. Me
I had to see it. All I’ve seen is both of you complain.
39. I don’t think a stylized sex scene worked here but that’s just a personal preference, if they’re all like “YOU CONSUME ME” “I CAN’T ESCAPE YOU” “I LIVE FOR MY FAMILY LET’S LIVE FOR OURSELVES” and they kiss and he fingers her then he’s all i’ll stop and she’s like don’t, I want to see/hear the frenzy, the heavy breathing, I want it to seem as organic as possible, like I would want a Shameless sex scene at least at first and then they can do the stylistic one during round 2 or something
40. KATE. I’M SICK OF THIS.
You fucked him. OWN IT. Because I don’t find the “journey” to her just allowing herself to be happy well executed at all because they don’t delve into Kate (or any of the characters) enough for this to be anything other than by-the-numbers and superficial so this just comes across as disingenuous and that’s the other problem with stylized sex scenes, they’re deliberate and don’t give off the impression of impulsivity or the heat of the moment so I’m just like IT’S TOO LATE FOR THIS.
41. This is why I like Cersei-like characters they just fucking own it.
42. AND ANTHONY IS SUCH. A DICK.
43. OH NO, SHE’S GALLOPING IN THE RAIN.
44. Lmao, I am not watching anything Bridgerton EVER again.
45. It’s done.
