A companion piece to Master Root, I painted the most notable of my DM’s NPCs: Captain John-Gilliam The Lesser. The PCs operate from his ship, a funeral barge carrying the name Rhadamanthine.

His character design is a lot more complex than Master Root’s, so it was a challenge in some areas to get it right. A good exercise in bringing to life a character not of my design. The Captain is my boiii though, don’t tell my DM.

Vineheart - I’m still enamored with the idea of vines growing on people bits. Wether symbiotic or parasitic, the marriage of plantlife and personlife fascinates me. Recently I tried DMing a Dungeons & Dragons game for the first time! I’ve been a player for years, but had rarely taken the reins from the other side of the screen.

It was a great experience! I prepared way too much content and my one-shot morphed into a mini-campaign. It is incredibly fun to come up with interesting story elements and put them in front of my players to see what they do with them.

Like the dwarf Sergeant Garkson, with little teddy bear ears soldered to his helmet, who is in control of the job the player characters are obligated to fulfill. I find that I love making a character they want to hate and put a lot of likable traits into them!

A couple of creative friends and I have started to give each other a prompt-word to do a making thing with each month. Just no pressure, do whatever creative thing for fun. The first word was ‘Apple’, and this was my result!

Apple made me think about poisoned/dangerous apples in stories, and then I thought about how the pips hold tiny bits of cyanide, so what if one apple would just be so full of pips that they become dangerous? And I had this atmospheric image in my head that I painted in gouache.

I really like the result, it feels like a comic panel to me. Who knows which untold story the image escaped from before it lodged into my brain?

I’m a little upset about the washi tape I used to tape off the border, it tore the paper horribly! But at least now I know not to use that tape in this way again.

Unbound. I’ve been having this idea floating in my brain for a while now, and over ascension weekend I finally sat down to paint it. It’s my first time working on 100% cotton paper! I got a little overconfident with the background thinking ‘it’s 100% cotton getting an even wash should be easy’. As if I wouldn’t have to pay attention and use careful skill. 😂 Painted with @danielsmithartistsmaterials watercolors. While I still see things I would have liked to do better or different I am happy with how it came out. In fact, when I figure out how, I might try selling prints of this work.
