first three studies in egg tempera ! using pigments available in the medieval era (except for titanium white)

top is a study of a miniature from Christine de Pisan's Épître d'Othea, bottom left is a loose crosshatching study based on this Mary Herbert painting, bottom right is based on this photograph

#technically the top one isn't finished but the sun was heating my room really intensely yesterday and the tempera curdled !!#spent soooo long colour correcting this scan...still not perfect but pretty close to the real colours !#the bottom left colours are slightly softer and more pastel maybe? but the hues are p close :^) v happy with those malachite greens #maker's diary #journals and sketchbooks #egg tempera #laurus

I have always hated having to come up with an "artist's statement" to accompany my paintings.

"This is called 'Foxlight'. It's, uh, taxidermied foxes at the Field Museum of Natural History. There's skeletons too. Oh, and it's egg tempera."

If I wanted to write philosophy I'd have become a philosopher.
