I just want to say to my fellow female Tolkien fans that we should not feel ashamed for loving these books that are admittedly male-centric.
It’s tempting to call Tolkien a sexist for including so few female characters in his legendarium, but we must remember that the women he did include are the epitome of girl power and some of the best role models we could ask for: strong and willful and noble and brave, without sacrificing their femininity to prove themselves.
It’s glorious to me how you can flip through the books and see page after page of men doing everything … and then suddenly:
There’s Varda creating the Stars, Sun, and Moon!!
There’s Yavanna saving her trees by inspiring the creation of the Ents!!
There’s Melian making an Elf king forget his own people and then shielding an entire kingdom!!
There’s Lúthien defeating Sauron himself AND Morgoth himself!!!
There’s Idril preventing the complete annihilation of her people by creating the secret path out of Gondolin!!
There’s Galadriel resisting the One Ring!!
There’s Éowyn killing the lord of the Nazgûl!!
There’s Ioreth saving the victims of the Black Breath through her knowledge that the king will be the healer!!
There’s Arwen bridging the gap between Elves and Men as Queen of Gondor!!
There’s 100-year-old Lobelia beating Ruffians with her umbrella and leaving money in her will to help homeless hobbits!!
There’s Rosie raising 13 kids while simultaneously serving the whole Shire as Mistress of Bag End!!
There’s Elanor guarding and preserving the Red Book so that we can read it now!!!
That’s why I just can’t hold too big of a grudge about this. Yes, Tolkien didn’t write female characters too often, and it would’ve been fantastic if there were more. But when he did write them, they were amazing.
And on top of that, his male characters display literally our dream level of healthy masculinity in a man. Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Faramir, etc. are our wish fulfillment. We have every right to enjoy that.

The Star Kindler and Lord of the Breath of Arda
Tumblr media
Chestnuts; Chestnut indicates time to take on the duty of being a provider for ourselves as well as the community. They all symbolize innocence in some places due to how they were used as toys throughout the years. Blueberries; All kinds of berries have symbolized the blood of gods and mythical creatures over the years because of their heavy stains. Blueberries, and blackberries, have before been the berry of pain, remorse, and grief in Europe, however, sometimes you will see them show up as a voice of God and a symbol of divine love from other places on the globe.
I wanted Manwe and Varda to look a bit like their "beastly" forms but not too much as I wanted to have their more humanized forms separated from it, yes, a bit like Jekyll and Hyde, but still keep some of the main things from it so they can still be recognized if you know what to look after.

Wont You Say Anything?
Manwë & Varda (Tolkien universe)
Day 6: Fallen | Storm @manweweek
Please beloved, tell me what is wrong? Please, my lord. Why won't you say anything? My Love? Manwë?
This is technically a continuation of this comic strip -> Eru's Instrument I did it a year or two ago? In it Manwë has a not so good, very bad day because of daddy dearest.
This is technically the third part of this whole thing BUT, where's the second part you might be asking? If that comic is the fist? Well, the second part is supposed to be another comic but i haven't actually drawn it 😬 But it's planned at least? I'll happen eventually? So yay?

Incredible how Tolkien took a detail as simple as Merry noticing the approaching Nazgûl thanks to the moonlight and, instead of leaving it at that, added layers that make this moment all the more incredible.
The darkness of Sauron and his Nazgûl originate in Morgoth.
The Moon comes from the last flower of Telperion, the Tree which Morgoth destroyed out of fear and hatred of its light.
And the Moon was created by Elbereth, of whom Morgoth was afraid since the beginning.
And it is that same light, from that same creator, that exposes creatures of that same darkness 2 entire ages later.
Wow.

The song "You'll be back" from the Alexander Hamilton Musical but instead of King George singing about America it's Melkor singing about Varda after their catastrophic breakup. Do you see my vision

See here's a funny thing about Melkor. A lot of male characters stand up to him and have their victories against him, but he has no chance whatsoever against the ladies. Examples include: Lúthien putting him to sleep, Arien being too scary to approach and the alternate version of the legendarium where Varda is the keeper of the Primeval Light

Day 1 of @ainurweek
Manwe & Varda - Life among the stars | Flight
Tumblr media
I'm still sticking to my usual designs for them, but it was funny trying something else and I really like these, so since they are shapeshifters I'll just say this is one of the many forms they tend to take although this one is more monster like, and one they wouldn´t take near the elvers.

This has probably been shared before, but in case it hasn't, here is a recording of Tolkien reading some of his poems, including "Sea Bell", "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil", "Perry-the-Winkle," and "Elbereth Gilthoniel".
I do not think the singing at the end is Tolkien, however.

Where Is He?
Varda & Ulmo (Tolkien universe)
Day 7: Freeform @manweweek
It's like he's vanished from Arda. Like he was never at all.
BEHOLD! The much awaited continuation of this first comic -> Eru's Instrument . And then eventually the half finding of Manwë over here -> Won't You Say Anything?
Funny how this comic doesn't feature Manwë at all? It all about him thought, never doubt that!
The context for this is, after sinking the isle of Númenor Manwë can't cope with the implications of what he did/was made to do. He involuntarily breaks and skaters all through Arda. Yes, indeed the solution to mental anguish is breaking yourself into such small pieces you won't have a consciousness to even think anyone ✨
@cilil has been very vocal of her love for this AU. Just yesterday she wrote something heavily inspired by the universe!! -> Story Go take a look as well, such good food. Friend, thank you for feeding the fires of my creativity and making this AU continue to blossom.
