Caring for senior buns - change comes with the territory!

Aspen’s litter box habits have been declining the past few weeks - and since she’s eight years old(well into old age for a rabbit of her breed), she’ll be going to the vet to investigate any medical reason for that fairly soon. But in the meantime, since my suspicion is arthritis, here she is with her new adaptive box, the low side cut less than an inch high so she can get in and out without pain.

So far, it’s been installed for less than an hour and she loves it - she’s already been in it more than she was in her regular one the whole week, so that definitely adds to my suspicions. Will keep you guys updated!

"My heart has joined the thousand, for my friend stopped running today." Today at around 3:30PM we said our last goodbye. My heart has never been so simultaneously empty and full. Twix was one of a kind. He loved everyone, shared many kisses, chinned it all, and today broke many hearts. Everyone he met fell in love with his magnificantly gentle soul instantly. He was like a little Buddha in a bunny body. He never let anything stop him, be it blindness or a closed gate. He was my heart, my soul, my everything. We always joked he was immortal, and in many ways he may have been. Up until the end he did it his way. The vet said he was in perfect health and in no pain with the exception of his back. We believe he had spondyliosis or advanced vertebral disc disease and this morning he lost 90% usage of his hind end very suddenly. Due to this we chose to help him over the Rainbow Bridge. He was not himself and we chose to take that as him telling us he was ready. Binky free my baby.. Teddy spent the day in the hospital after being found unable to stand or sit up. He was roused back to a wobbly sit, assist fed the Queen's porridge, a whopping 75cc's of it. After fluids at the vet as well as radiology and blood work, he's back home and sitting and standing. He's eating greens on his own but still visibly wobbly. The doc suspects thymoma but wants to do echo. Palliative care will be given pending treatment plan. Papa hoomin saved his life getting him down there in the bunny limo. The seriously smooth ride in a land yacht certainly make a bun feel relaxed about an automobile trip which so many buns suffer with bumpy rides. Their faces don’t move much but they still manage to be very expressive. Sitting in my chair reading a good story and I can just FEEL him staring me down. I’m going to cave eventually and he knows it. He’s a patient bunny. He can wait.
