Dain was killing the unborn Greenbriar children of the next generation
Now it is well known among folk of the air fans that Dain sent the ghost to kill Liriope after she became pregnant with his child Oak but thanks to Oriana Oak survived and Oriana pretended Oak was Madoc’s son. But isn’t it kind of odd that Eldred was able to have six children and Dain had Oak unexpectedly but none of the other Greenbriar siblings have any kids when most of them have been alive for centuries and I doubt they were celibate during that time? I know it’s rare for faeries to have children, but the Greenbriar’s seem pretty fertile, and Dain managed to have Oak unintentionally so shouldn't any of his siblings have also been able to have at least one child? Unless Dain was deliberately stopping any children they could have from being born. Think about it Dain probably thought if any of his siblings, especially Balekin and Elowyn, had children then it could ruin his own chances for the throne. And if he was willing to kill his own child to become king then he could definitely kill his siblings’ children and so whenever his sisters or Balekin’s lovers became pregnant he sent his spies to cause a miscarriage or something. I know this might seem farfetched, but this is a pretty good theory and I’m actually using this in my fic The Dark Queen of Faerie on ao3 if you want to read about it. Oh, and JKarrEagle is also using this theory with my permission for her story Evil King of the Faeries which can be found on fanfiction.net and ao3.

!Soft Nicasia (?)
Unpopular opinion: I don’t blame NIcasia for falling for Locke. Her “mistake” just shows the girl’s vulnerability, her almost childish  naïveté and thirst for some kind of closeness, tenderness and intimacy. It wasn’t just a fling, she had warm feelings for Locke till the very end. She was, in fact, the only one who truly mourned him. Come on, faerie aristocrats/ royalty (and also queens, I guess) used to be polygamous (cough Eldred, cough Balekin, cough Caelia, cough Cardan) so why not Nicasia?!

Surely you have noticed that since his reign began, the isles are different. Storms come in faster. Colors are a bit more vivid, smells are sharper.
do. do y’all think this changed when cardan was crowned because that’s just how he sees things?
like he sees colours more vividly than eldred did, his emotions were more wild, less contained, so storms came in quicker

i may be thinking too much into this but i kinda think that balekin, madoc, and the ghost killing the greenbriars during the coronation was a bit of foreshadowing to signify that they would later betray the high king, the last greenbriar. but unlike madoc and the ghost, balekin was killed because he murdered the former high king which is kind of a greater sin than murdering the heirs to the crown.

❛ Near immortality is an unbelievable and fascinating gift. You come back to life at unpredictable intervals outside of your control with the reflexes of a wet noodle, thus making you unable to defend either yourself or your team. Somehow, as you always do, you have turned your one asset into a liability. ❜

"He slides my ruby ring off his finger. 'I, Cardan, son of Eldred, High King of Elfhame, take you, Jude Duarte, mortal ward of Madoc, to be my bride and my queen. Let us be wed until we wish for it to be otherwise and the crown has passed from our hands.'"

My fanfic
Okay I am working on a fic on archive of our own where Eldred has a secret first born daughter named Allfryda and she's actually inspired by Hela in Thor Ragnarok: an evil elder sister that no one knew about and is more powerful than her siblings. It's called The Dark Queen of Faerie and my username is the same as here. You should check it out as you might find it interesting. And it currently has 9 chapters.

Cardan’s prologue at the beginning of Queen of Nothing kicks me in the GUT with feelings every time I read it.
Eldred turned to Lady Asha and her child, the harbinger of ill luck
she fled to the stables, abandoning him, too
and so he grew up in the palace, cherished by no one and checked by no one
his brothers and sisters only laughed, playing with him as they would a puppy
For Cardan, who could not attract his father’s good notice and desperately wanted it, the prospect was tempting
Prince Cardan aught to have been suspicious of this kindness, but he’d had little enough of the real thing to tell true from false
though he protested, no one would hear Prince Cardan’s side...The High King would not even allow Cardan an audience
Care of Prince Cardan was given over to Balekin...the only one willing to take him
maybe it would be better if she dropped him, Baphen thought
looking upon Prince Cardan was like looking into an uncertain future, so (Eldred) avoided it
The fact that Eldred never once perceives Cardan as his son. He is only “Asha’s child” and “the harbinger of ill luck” and a “contribution to the Greenbriar line”.  The fact that Dain openly used Cardan’s desperate desire for any good attention from his father as a way to literally ruin his life. How none of his sisters stood up for him or agreed to take him in, and yet he still yells at Balekin in their defense many years later in TWK.  The way Cardan tried to defend himself, but nobody would listen to him.  GET BEHIND ME, LITTLE CARDAN. I WILL FIGHT EVERYONE.
