I beg people over and over to vote in all the down ballot races in every election. This is why.

The new house speaker supports a nationwide abortion and election denier. I'm gonna walk into traffic now.

Gentle reminder: If Republicans take one or both chambers of Congress on Tuesday, there will be no further climate action for two years.
The historic clean energy investments in the Inflation Reduction Act are largely seen as an important first step, but much more needs to be done. And the bill narrowly passed. It's a reminder that elections really do matter.
If Dems had netted one more Senate seat in 2020, Manchin and his fossil fuel interests (the federal government must open federal lands to oil and gas exploitation or lose the ability to open them to clean energy) wouldn't have had to be taken into account.
If they had netted two more Dem Senators in 2020, and Sinema hadn’t been a holdup either, the bill would have probably passed way sooner and would have included many more investments in social care, child care, health care etc.
And if Dems had netted one *less* seat in 2020, the bill with the largest clean energy investments in American history wouldn't have passed at all. Elections matter. Please vote.

Pffffffft. A ‘tough on crime’ racist trumpeter for sheriff lost the primary, and lost so badly that he demanded a recount (which he had to pay for since it’s not close). And when I mean the dude lost so badly I mean he picked three districts where the other candidates got over 2000 votes, while he got 249.
In the end, the recount changed by one vote. For another candidate.
Get wrecked you goddamned piece of shit 😇

Politics
The school levies have failed twice in 3 months in the city I live in. The total amount of people this last time who voted was 27%. They are going to have to get rid of teachers and staff at least 20 something. They might get rid of sports and things like band, choir, drama, after school activities and nobody gives a shit, because it would cost more money. I’m so mad at these morons, ruining this for kids, making it harder for them to get an education, they voted last year for a seriously terrifying man to the school board who I’m sure is a trumper. The mayor is a republican dip shit who endorsed him. It’s just so damn frustrating, because they don’t make a bigger deal about the special elections and what it will do if they fail. I’m glad my mom is retired from the district and has been for a long time, because it’s so much worse now. Stupid morons are going to be up in arms if sports go away but it will be there fault by not voting or voting no. Vote every election no matter how small. This is the consequence when you don’t.

It was a really, really good political news day today in the US (4/4/23)
For anyone who hasn't heard, not only did Trump get arrested, but also:
-We found out that the legal case against him in this prosecution (stormy daniels hush money case) is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than people had speculated. Like, wow do they have receipts.
-In fact, the evidence was so entirely there that the new question on prime time news (well, at least on msnbc lol) is "Hey, why didn't the federal courts prosecute him for this already???)
-Trump FAILED UTTERLY in his attempts to rally mass protests and demands for "death and destruction" if he was arrested. There was no violence at the arrest at all, and as for Trump supporters? They failed to show up in any kind of numbers--reportedly only about a hundred people were protesting the arrest
-We (aka Judge Janet Protasiewicz) WON what is widely considered to be the most consequential election of 2023, a Wisconsin state supreme court election that handed control of the state supreme court to the left
-Because of that election win, it is now extremely likely that abortion will be legal in Wisconsin, and that Wisconsin won't be able to throw out electors in the 2024 presidential election
-ALSO bc of this, Wisconsin, the most gerrymandered state in the country, will probably get nonpartisan, accurate maps, which COULD FLIP THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES in 2024
-In Chicago, Brandon Johnson, union organizer and former teacher, won the election for mayor, in a decisive win progressives, esp for meaningful criminal justice reform and investment in mental health (whereas the other guy was campaigning on hiring hundreds of new cops and being super tough on crime)
