karen- dog. BIG dog at that. this girl needs a great dane or whatever (idk much about dogs) asap. she likes having a companion, she likes feeling safer, she likes having to regularly check in and care for them. she does see the dog as a reporting aid (lures them in with dog- asks them casual questions) (she is not concerned about the ethics of that). she bring them on hikes (you cannot tell me a vermont girl doesn’t like hiking). also guard dog.

matt- cat! tbh finds dogs intimidating and distasteful. loud, trips him, smelly, needy. very very fond of cats. they make nice sounds and are easy to track (click click click claws, purring), don’t aggravate whatever injuries he’s got going on, won’t die if he’s a bit late on feeding them but will be mad enough about it that he’ll try to do it on time. in his space as a pal, not a dependent. he sees them as equals. also cats have literal healing purrs so. (look it up!!). maybe multiple cats. they should be in pairs.

foggy- not super into animals, tbh. he’s seen a lot of dead animal. doesn’t want a creature in his space or depending on him. just had a very farm kid type mentality about it. his extended family had a decent amount of pets growing up and he’s very ambivalent about them. still do, and still ambivalent. very anti-dog owners who bring their dogs everywhere (which karen is. dogs at office an ongoing issue).

elektra- would adore all animals but definitely not want any. pretty much pushes matt aside to see the cat. only visits for the cat. spoils the fuck out of the cat. probably pays for a fancy food subscription service for the cat. probably tracks down and meets claire just because matt mentioned she had a dog (this was a very bizarre encounter for claire). also pays for fancy stuff for her dog immediately after.

claire- i feel like she’s have a little dog that she acts very “ugh this fucking dog needs to go to the vet again” about but she really adores. no real opinions about other animals she just likes HER dog. probably got said dog in some kind of bizarre way (someone brought them to the er and everyone was like??? that’s a dog and she ended up taking them home and treating them?). if matt shows up and isn’t too injured he has to walk them (he fucking hates this).

♡ elektra natchios ♡

elektra’s number one way of showing her love is gift giving. one hundred percent. there aren’t many people that elektra loves, almost next to none, so she’s sure to spoil the ones she does, which includes you.

after all, she has an outrageous amount of money. (she’s not trying to brag, it’s simply the truth.) what else would she do with all of that money besides spending it on her loved ones?

elektra likes to lavish you in expensive gifts— precious jewelry, designer clothing, etc. you name it, elektra will buy it for you. she’ll take you out to the finest restaurants and purchase the nicest bottles of alcohol they have for you to share (if you drink alcohol that is). she’ll buy you things related to your hobbies and interests, wanting to show her support for the things that are important to you.

if it gets to be too much for you, you have to sit elektra down and explain to her that while you sincerely appreciate each and every one of the gifts she’s given you, it makes you uncomfortable for her too spend so much money on you.

elektra doesn’t quite understand because she is more than happy to buy you things, but if it makes you uncomfortable, she’ll dial back.

that doesn’t mean she won’t spend money on you whenever she can, she will, but she doesn’t spend nearly as much money as she previously did.

♡ foggy nelson ♡

foggy kills bugs that you’re too afraid to. he might release a startled yelp when he sees the bug scurrying about, but he’s quick to grab something to kill it. he tries to calm you down if you’re freaking out while he swats at the insect.

he tries to make you laugh! foggy’s naturally a pretty goofy guy, and he loves making little quips here and there to see you smile and hear you express your mirth. if you’ve had a day on the rougher end, foggy will try even harder to make you laugh or draw a smile from your face, going so far as to do something mildly embarrassing simply for your amusement.

he is your personal hype man— your number one cheerleader. he celebrates your every accomplishment, no matter how tiny it may be. he doesn’t make a big deal out of it (if it’s a more minor accomplishment), but foggy makes sure to acknowledge the effort you’ve put forth to succeed at what you’ve done.

foggy’s so encouraging and uplifting. if you’re ever feeling down in the dumps or unsure about yourself, foggy will help to ease your negative feelings with his kind and reassuring words. he may not be able to rid you of all your fears or worries, but he tries his best to put some of your negative feelings to rest.

foggy drunkenly serenades you whenever he’s had too much to drink. he’s not much of a singer, even less of one when he’s drunk, but in his inebriated state, he thinks that singing you a song is the best idea ever. he sings loud and off-pitch for all to hear, which is mildly embarrassing for you, but foggy likes to think of himself as endearing like that.

he definitely does your night-time routine for you if you’re too sleepy to or you’re even already asleep. he tries to recall all the products you use and the exact order you use them in as he goes through the steps of your night-time routine. he’s super gentle and quiet, not wanting to accidentally wake you up if you’re asleep while he does this.

♡ frank castle ♡

frank walks on the outer edge of the sidewalk while you walk on the side closer to the buildings. he does it unconsciously, but if you try to be on the side closer to the street, frank will not let that happen. he’ll gently nudge you closer toward the buildings while he takes your previous place.

he’s a protector when it comes to the ones he loves. he’d rather let harm fall onto him than you. he’ll use himself as a human shield to keep you safe or pull you behind him if you find yourselves in a sticky situation. frank doesn’t care if you have an issue with it- tough shit. that’s the way things are. if it means keeping you safe from harm’s way, frank would gladly allow himself to get hurt and take any blows meant for you.

frank gives you book recommendations. he’ll lend you books that he’s read and enjoyed and that he thinks you might like as well.

he’ll play the guitar for you if you ask. you might have to persuade him a little, but more likely than not, frank will cave in and play you a song. depending on his mood, he might even take a song request from you.

he forces you to take the bed if you crash at his place. you can argue all you want, but frank’s not budging. he’s sleeping on the floor or the couch, and if you want to join him, you’re more than welcome to. he won’t take the bed if you choose not to use it, and when you realize that, you usually end up grumbling in defeat and sleeping on the bed like frank wanted.

frank steals food off of your plate and eats it without asking you for permission, but he’s not a barbarian. it’s only fair of frank to let you swipe food off of his plate in retaliation. he might try and block your attempts, but in the end, he always lets you steal a bite or two of his food.

♡ karen page ♡

karen will randomly drop by your workplace with your favorite beverage or snack. there’s no rhyme or reason to it, but she does happen to swing by your workplace with a treat in hand more frequently when she knows that you’ve been having a hard time.

if you need a ride somewhere, karen’s happy to either drive you there if she happens to be free or let you borrow her car. she doesn’t mind letting you use her car as long as you return back in one piece. if you’re going out somewhere together, karen will pick you up from your place and drive to wherever you’re going.

karen is incredibly loyal and fiercely defensive of you. you’re an important person in her life, and karen will not tolerate someone speaking down on you or bad mouthing you in her presence. she doesn’t care about making a scene, there’s just no way she’s going to let someone shit on you like that without saying something about it.

with karen’s hectic life, it’s very possible for her to accidentally forget an important date (for example, your birthday). it may completely slip her mind until later when she finally has a moment of peace. she feels absolutely terrible when she realizes she’s forgotten that important date, profusely apologizing over and over again to you for forgetting. even if you tell her that you’re not mad at her, that stuff happens sometimes, karen makes sure to make up for her mistake in one way or another.

she teaches how to play pool if you don’t already know how. she’ll probably be surprised that you don’t already know how to play, but she’s a good teacher. she’s hands-on and patient, correcting your movements by guiding your hands with her own. when she thinks you’ve picked up enough of the game, she proudly proclaims that you’re ready to beat some ass (aka foggy and matt’s).

♡ matt murdock ♡

whenever matt notices you’re cold, he’s quick to take off his jacket and carefully drape it over your shoulders. you can protest all you want, but matt won’t allow you to give his jacket back. he can bear the chill that starts to seep through his skin— he’s experienced worse.

if matt picks up that you’re feeling uncomfortable, he will do whatever he can to alleviate the situation. whether that means redirecting attention onto him so it’s off of you or making up an excuse so you both have an opportunity to leave, he is more than willing to do it.

matt’s the perfect person to help you out when you’re feeling overwhelmed by what’s going on around you. he’s had to deal with sensory overload due to his enhanced senses plenty of times in his life, so he knows how you feel. he keeps his voice soft and low and walks you through steps that have helped him in the past.

he playfully flirts with you. matt is, quite possibly, the most charming person you know, and he makes sure to make use of those charms when it comes to you. he likes hearing you laugh after he’s said something or feel the heat rise to your skin if what he’s said flusters you.

he compliments you when he’s noticed that you’ve changed something up, and he basically always notices. if you’re using a new fragrance mist, matt first asks if you’re indeed using a new perfume or cologne to verify his suspicions and then tells you that it smells nice. it’s the same when it comes to clothing you’re wearing, but the compliment will be about the fabric of the material.

BIOGRAPHY

Emma was raised in the foster care system, hoping to one day get adopted. Unfortunately it never happened- and so she learned how to rely on only herself. She lived a life of crime for a while, petty theft and breaking and entering mostly. When she was eventually jailed for getting caught with stolen goods- she found out she was pregnant. Knowing she wasn’t ready to be a mother, she gave up her son for adoption. After she was released, she traveled to New York where she eventually became a bail bonds-person. One day, a young boy (the son she gave up ten years prior) showed up on her doorstep and convinced her to come to his home-town with him, a place in Maine called “Storybrooke.” There, much to her surprise, she found out she was the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Yes, that Snow White and Prince Charming. The rest of the Storybrooke population was made up of various other fairy tale characters, all of whom had been cursed to lose their memories by the Evil Queen. Emma, it turned out, was the savior who would break that curse.

PRESENT DAY

Emma has no memory of ever being in Storybrooke, only those of her life leading up to arriving in Lock Hollow, where she ended up on a lead in finding someone who had skipped bail. She has no memory of her real parents, or of her son (other than when he was born.)

PERSONALITY

Emma is skeptical, and at least believes herself to be rational and down-to-earth. She believes in herself alone, knowing (at least in her opinion) that everyone else will either betray you, or let you down. She trusts no one, because that’s what’s kept her alive. She’s jaded, and a little cynical, but who can blame someone with this much trauma? She also is a human lie detector, and can tell when she’s being had.

APPEARANCE

Emma is five feet and five inches tall, with blue eyes and long blonde hair. She’s got one hell of a poker face, and smiles only out of sarcasm or the rare, genuine display of happiness.

MISC HEADCANONS

She sometimes has strange dreams about people she has never met, or at least believes to have never met. She’s strangely drawn to fairy tales but can’t explain why, because she’s not much of a fantasizer. She believes in only what she sees for herself.

► HEADCANONS/FUN FACTS

matt isn’t really sure what his situation is with jen at the moment, but he’s not rushing into any labels. elektra’s death left some emotional wounds he still needs to patch up, but jen is slowly helping with that. she’s great and he feels like he can be himself around her, which he can’t say about most people.

foggy and karen relentlessly tease matt about reaching out to the avengers, but he brushes it off as banter. he likes what he has in hell’s kitchen and the work he does as daredevil, alone. an occasional team up with she-hulk is one thing.

he hasn’t spoken to most of the other defenders after they all parted ways besides jessica, but even she’s flaky.

the yellow and red suit is definitely a fashion statement, but matt trusts luke wholeheartedly with the logistics of making his suits, and he’s grown to love the color combination.

► WANTED CONNECTIONS

foggy nelson is matt’s best friend and legal partner, and the two of them have a good thing going. it was rough when foggy first found out about what matt was getting up to late at night, but now they have a nice understanding.

karen page is now officially a part of the law firm, and she’s just as much a necessity to the team as foggy is. he couldn’t imagine his life without them.

loves money. monetary compensation stands as the main reason she does any ‘good deed’ by choice, particularly while traveling as much as she has as of late

as the boundary curses spread and as a consequence of her position and the rumors circling her abilities, she finds herself regularly holding audience with any variation of cursed strangers. most don’t realize her ‘cure’ is temporary and she feels she’s under no obligation to tell them so, even if they pay her hefty sum. purposely killing their hope in that way seems rather cruel, even by her standards. she also can’t help if no one directly asks

most of her attire leans towards a feeling of ‘pirate wench’ with reds, whites, and blacks serving as her predominant colors. the armor she wears is easily the only exception: a bright silver typically. she also has no trouble being entirely naked when permitted, and tends to prefer it when combat isn’t an immediate concern

liquor is her life’s blood. coffee follows rather closely behind

she has a mixed opinion of the royal court and guard these days, though tends to lean more towards indifference so long as they don’t make her job unbearable

she’s broken precisely twenty-three bones in her body throughout her life. some more than once, and mostly on account of accidents she’s had little to do with initially rather than actual combat

she is allergic to pollen and tends to hate most floral arrangements, bees, bugs, or anything that has the capacity to be annoying, frankly

while she’s defected from the dragon priesthood, she still commits to praying for those she slays. old habits die hard and all

speaking of kills, her count, to date, ranges somewhere well above the upper 300s while in the role of an official executioner. unofficially, the count is unknown, though one must also bear in mind her time among the guard in general, being among the youngest ever present

her love life is an absolute mess. her string of exes either want her dead or in the very least, wouldn’t mind seeing her step on a lego or two, barefoot. she has no capacity for proper commitment, prone to balancing more than one person at a time, and her eventually getting caught has resulted in a number of awkward situations that she tends to brush off. she’s more recently been forced into an arrangement of marriage, of which she’s entirely against, and tends to act as such. but since she’s rejected a string of offers, the court felt it was the most logical move to ensure traditions are maintained and she has little room to disobey

she has a talent for the violin and the tambourine, both of which were in use during her street urchin days. she also tends to hum when she believes she’s alone. most of the time she’s not

&. ⸻ CURSES

to date, the knight is plagued by any number of ongoing curses, including:

the madman ( or unnatural bloodlust and inability to forgive ) — gifted from her hometown of norad and muted since her leave. that said, traces still remain of the curse in itself, and are most prominent in moments of combat, be they physical or verbal.

the flame keeper — a familial gift as well as a curse in which every first born heir is subjected to a version of flame ability that imprints itself onto the skin and soul. no one knows who within the family bore responsibility or how this came to be, but the flame itself, regardless of type or manner, will eventually consume the heir, utilizing their very life energy to burn so brightly. her father was a 'living forge', capable of custom weaponry and consuming ore, hence his main occupation as a blacksmith. shayne is known as the 'holy knight', her version of flame being blessed and pure, but still deadly.

the ring of maleficarum — a supposed curse negating object, however, the effects are more detrimental to the user than initially realized, with shayne inheriting the very essence of this curse and its malevolent host after her father bargained with the dimensional witch in return for his soul upon death ( unknowingly ). the ring, or essence of it rather, essentially stockpiles negative or cursed energy, resulting in legions of bad luck for the user rather than relieving them. it tends to work against her divine flame naturally, causing far more injury and issue than may typically occur when the abilities are in use. for instance, the ring is the reason the curses she ‘breaks’ or absorbs do not stay as such, why she always tends to fall into regular accidents, is always broke ( despite any accumulated funds ), is always at the mercy of hovering birds and other animals literally biting at her heels, and among the reasons for her poor love life, as it were. she is a natural jinx, the bad energy tempered and only partly sealed by enchanted, purified bandages she’d been gifted by a royal clergyman. they regularly encase her body so as not to cause unwarranted destruction around her and she has them regularly re-upped in enchantments by various healing sorts when she notices her luck going more awry than usual. breaking this curse is rumored to require the lives or pure energy of hordes of men, to balance the scales as it were, but shayne has yet to manage to do so. despite her obvious efforts and choice in occupation.

the absorbed — any curse she pulls from another being stays with her for no more than four hours, though the timing may vary. similar to rogue of x-men, this talent draws on the lifeforce of her chosen victim and surrenders the negative energy into herself. the effects of this may either be to her immediate benefit or detriment, though given how the essence of the maleficarum tends to operate, shayne has no way of telling before doing so. most of the time, however, it is less of an aid to her in the moment. if we’re not including any monetary gain, of course. the beings drawn from will be forced into a state of exhaustion themselves for a time as well.

&. ⸻ MOTIVATIONS AND FEARS

she will never allow herself to get close to anyone these days, really, having seen the effects her poor luck may have on those that dare to be. her tendency to self-sabotage and pull away is driven by her fears of hurting those nearest, and her commitment phobia is similarly drawn from this.

part of the reason she’s so money hungry stems from her growing up in an environment that offered so little, having no wish to end up similarly when she eventually retires. it doesn’t help, of course, that her capacity to maintain her funding is severely limited naturally and her apparent gambling problem tends to lend itself poorly to her intended future.

being cursed as she is, is the same as breathing or having a heartbeat for anyone else. as such, trying to remove her curses forcefully would be the same as killing her. her primary goal, aside from seeing an end to all shades, is to find a cure that won't kill her. and despite her poorer approach, she wishes to see the world cleansed of similarly cursed fates.

her biological father — a man renown in his own right for his alchemic work as well as his talents with weaponry, he holds a greed and selfishness that is unparalleled. or held, at any rate. he would meet his end by a cursed blood, the villain consuming his body whole, mostly, in their wish to claim what lied within. prior to his sudden death, however, he would make a bargain with the dimensional witch to see his daughter take on the host and malevolent energy of the cursed ring he thought could cure him. shayne has always held mixed feelings towards the man in part because of his choices. his death, of course, has brought her little in the way of actual relief. she has sworn to slay his killer at any cost, though this is less to do with any deeply personal reason and more to see justice wrought.

her biological mother — a woman who studied cursed objects for a fair portion of her life, she was an archaeologist determined to see the life of the dragon goddess renewed. a devout follower herself, she was responsible for introducing her daughter to the failing religion and upholding the practices in their household, despite her husband’s disapproval. she would see her life cut short by the very same man, then determined to relieve himself of his cursed and partly self-inflicted woes.

her adoptive father — the man responsible for plucking young shayne from the bloodied streets of norad town after being abandoned by her birth father, he would serve as a guide in her new life and would lead her to her current station. as a member of the royal guard himself, he holds a fair bit of pride in his daughter’s work and efforts for the crown, though he does often wish she’d settle down properly and drank just a little less. he is among the few who know her well, at this stage in her life.
