#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth - Why So Many Long #Covid #Patients Are Reporting #SuicidalThoughts
Tumblr media
How Vaccination Affects the Risk of Long #COVID Photo by Edward Jenner on Pexels.com BY JAMIE DUCHARME  Last year, Diana Berrent—the founder of Survivor Corps, a Long #COVID support group—asked the group’s members if they’d ever had thoughts of #suicide since developing Long #COVID. About 18% of people who responded said they had, a number much higher than the 4% of the general U.S. #adult population that has experienced recent #suicidalthoughts. A few weeks ago, Berrent posed the same question to current members of her group. This time, of the nearly 200 people who responded, 45% said they’d contemplated #suicide. While her poll was small and informal, the results point to a serious problem. “People are suffering in a way that I don’t think the general public understands,” Berrent says. “Not only are people mourning the life that they thought they were going to have, they are in excruciating pain with no answers.” Long #COVID, a chronic condition that affects millions of #Americans who’ve had #COVID-19, often looks nothing like acute #COVID-19. Sufferers report more than 200 symptoms affecting nearly every part of the body, including the neurologic, cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems. The condition ranges in severity, but many so-called “long-haulers” are unable to work, go to #school, or leave their homes with any sort of consistency. The statistics around Long #COVID and #mentalhealth are striking. A report published in eClinical Medicine last year found that about 88% of Long #COVID #patients experienced some form of mood or emotional issue during the first seven months of their illnesses. Another study, published in BMC Psychiatry in April, found that people with post-#COVID conditions were about twice as likely to develop #mentalhealthissues including #depression, #anxiety, or #posttraumaticstressdisorder as people without them. #COVID-19 survivors were also almost 50% more likely to experience #suicidalideation than people who hadn’t had the #virus, according to a study published in February in the BMJ. Exploring the body-brain connection of Long #COVID Understanding the link between Long #COVID, #suicide, and #mentalhealthissues is more complicated than it might seem. While some people do develop #depression, #anxiety, or other #mentalhealthissues after their diagnoses, others are suffering from physical symptoms that have psychological side effects or that are mistaken for #mentalhealthproblems, experts say. The #virus that causes #COVID-19 has well-documented effects on the brain, which can potentially result in psychiatric and neurologic symptoms, says Dr. Wes Ely, who treats Long #COVID #patients at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “We’ve been collecting brains of some #patients who didn’t survive Long #COVID,” he says. “We’re seeing inflammation and ongoing cellular abnormalities in these brains.” Those changes to the brain can have profound effects, possibly including #suicidalthinking and #behavior. “There is a high probability that symptoms of psychiatric, neurological and physical illnesses, as well as inflammatory damage to the brain in individuals with post-#COVID syndrome, increase #suicidalideation and #behavior in this #patient population,” reads a January 2021 article in QJM: An International Journal of Medicine. Research published as a preprint last year (meaning it had not been peer-reviewed) also found differences between “post-#COVID #depression” and typical #depression, including higher rates of #suicidalbehavior—suggesting “a different disease process at least in a subset of individuals.” Long #COVID can also be incredibly painful, and research has linked chronic physical pain to an increased risk of #suicide. Nick Güthe has been trying to spread that message since his wife, Heidi Ferrer, died by #suicide in 2021 after living with Long #COVID symptoms for about a year. Among her most disruptive symptoms, Güthe says, were foot pain that prevented her from walking comfortably, tremors, and vibrating sensations in her chest that kept her from sleeping. More than 40% of Long #COVID #patients experience moderate-to-severe sleep disturbances, according to recent research, and insomnia has been linked to suicidal thinking and #behavior. “My wife didn’t kill herself because she was depressed,” Güthe says. “She killed herself because she was in excruciating physical pain.” Since speaking out about his wife’s death, Güthe has heard from numerous families with similar experiences. Recently, he says, he’s noticed a grim change. “I used to get contacted by people on #socialmedia who were suicidal,” he says. “Now I’m getting reports of suicides. I had three in the last week.” During that time, there’s been little tangible progress for long-haulers. #Doctors still don’t understand much about the condition or how to treat it. “You’ve got people now who have been suffering with Long #COVID for almost two years,” Güthe says. Part of the problem is that in the U.S., illnesses are typically considered either physical or mental, but not both, says Abigail Hardin, an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Rush University who works with seriously ill #patients, including those with Long #COVID. “In reality, all of these things are actually very bidirectional,” she says. “Everything is integrated.” In part because the medical system often fails to accommodate that complexity, many chronic-disease #patients are misdiagnosed or assigned labels that don’t capture the full reality of their conditions. Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, a post-viral condition so similar to Long #COVID that many long-haulers meet its diagnostic criteria, is one example. Decades ago, #doctors widely and incorrectly believed that patients’ symptoms—including crushing fatigue, often exacerbated by physical #activity—were all in their heads. Even today, ME/CFS #patients—as well as those with similar conditions, like chronic Lyme disease and fibromyalgia—are often misdiagnosed with #mentalhealthissues because their providers don’t understand their conditions. #Suicide is also disproportionately common among people with ME/CFS, research shows. Adriane Tillman, who has had ME/CFS for a decade and works with the advocacy group #MEAction, remembers trying to get #doctors to understand the extent of her physical symptoms, which at first kept her bedridden—only to be diagnosed with #depression. While Tillman was grieving for the life she’d led before she got sick, she says reducing her debilitating condition to #depression was too simplistic. “I just thought, okay, I’m not explaining this enough,” she says. “I brought my husband . I brought my dad. I brought a Powerpoint presentation.” Still, the best she got was an increased dose of antidepressants. Many Long #COVID #patients report similar experiences. Teia Pearson faced disbelief from #doctors and loved ones after developing Long #COVID following a March 2020 case of #COVID-19. “The doctor’s calling you crazy. Your family and friends are…treating you like you’re crazy. That really messes with your head,” she says. Jaime Seltzer, director of scientific and medical outreach at #MEAction, says research on #mentalhealth needs to better account for the realities of chronic illness. For example, many #depression screening questionnaires ask if the individual struggles to get out of bed in the morning, but fail to distinguish between feeling unable to get up and being physically unable to get up. “Until we have a #depression scale and an #anxiety scale for people who are physically disabled…people with physical disabilities will continue to be misinterpreted as depressive or anxious even when they are not,” Seltzer says. #James Donaldson notes:Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.  #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticleOrder your copy of James Donaldson's latest book,#CelebratingYourGiftofLife:From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com A need for solutions Berrent says there’s an immediate need for a #suicidehotline specifically for people with Long #COVID, since operators at other services may not know about or understand the condition. More research into Long #COVID treatments would also go a long way, she says, because it would give people hope as well as eventual relief from their often-devastating symptoms. Marissa Wardach, whose ex-husband John died by #suicide in March after developing Long #COVID the prior summer, wishes there had been more options available to him. When he spoke with #doctors, she says, “they kind of just shrugged it off and said, ‘Sorry, we don’t really know much about it,’” she remembers. “That shattered any kind of hope he had.” Wardach wonders how things might have gone if clinicians had referred John to specialty treatment centers or #patient support groups, rather than sending him on his way. But even when #patients are connected to the relatively few Long COVID treatment centers that exist, they often face months-long waits for an appointment. “Long #COVID #patients feel they’ve been abandoned, in many circumstances,” Ely says. “There are too many the country where there’s not a Long #COVID clinic.” Emerging evidence about what does seem to work for #patients also isn’t always shared widely among #doctors. Güthe, for example, learned from a #physician months after his wife’s death that a drug called trazodone may have helped her sleep despite her chest vibrations—something her own #doctors didn’t mention. “Every general practitioner in the #UnitedStates should be up to date on the basic guidelines for helping #patients with Long #COVID deal with the major symptoms,” he says. Seltzer says all #doctors and #mentalhealthpractitioners also need a better understanding of what will—or will not—help people with Long #COVID and other similar chronic diseases. Approaches like #cognitivebehavioraltherapy, which focus on changing thought patterns, often aren’t helpful for #patients with very real physical symptoms, she says. “Clinicians need to be aware that this is a thing, and they need to not be dismissive about it,” Seltzer says. They need to “not attribute it to stress, and therefore place the responsibility on the #patient to calm themselves down, and not attribute it to an incorrect manner of thinking.” These shortcomings point to structural issues in the U.S. medical system, Hardin says. Ideally, physical and psychological care wouldn’t be treated as distinct, and patients could get holistic evaluations from any provider. At the very least, she wishes each person diagnosed with a chronic condition had a #mentalhealthprofessional on their care team from the very beginning. But, she says, that’s less common than it should be. “So much of what we’re seeing with #COVID and the fallout of it is not related to individual providers,” she says. “A lot of it is very structural. This is an opportunity for the country to grow and fix some of the systemic issues that have been under the surface of U.S. medicine.” If you or someone you know may be contemplating suicide, call the #NationalSuicidePreventionLifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. In emergencies, call 911, or seek care from a local hospital or #mentalhealth provider. Photo by Edward Jenner on Pexels.com Read the full article

[CN] Gavin’s Sky Date - Prologue
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for a date prologue, 云霄之约, which has not been released in English servers! 🍒
Do note that you have to read this before embarking on the actual date, because it contains background information and sweet domestic bliss you wouldn't want to miss :>
Tumblr media
[ This date was released on 14 April 2021 ]
[ Part One: A Dream About to Take Flight ]
MC: Ahhh! My life is up to me. Not. Up. To. Fate!
The small dice in my furled hand is tossed around several times. When I loosen my grip, it rolls quickly on the map -- ‘2′.
Tumblr media
Gavin: Hahaha--
Tumblr media
Gavin laughs, but hurriedly retracts his smile when he senses my murderous gaze.
Gavin: It’s okay, things will definitely take a favourable turn in the next round.
Sulky, I let out of a huff. I watch as he picks up the dice, casually rolling a '5′. Then, he cheerfully shifts his own plane on the map by six spaces.
[Note] In the game of Aeroplane Chess, your plane can only leave the starting point if you roll a ‘5′ of ‘6′!
MC: ...
It’s a Saturday afternoon. Gavin and I had nothing to do after eating, so we randomly grabbed a set of Aeroplane Chess from the supermarket to play. But I didn’t expect to have such a terrible gaming experience!
Although it’s been the sixth or seventh round, I just can’t the ‘6′ I need to get my plane out of the hangar. On the other hand, Gavin has always been able to get it to take flight smoothly, and very quickly reaches the goal.
MC: Gavin, with your kind of luck, there’s no need to waste it on playing games with me.
After pondering for a long while, I offer him a serious suggestion.
MC: Let’s head out to buy a lottery ticket?
Tumblr media
Gavin: Why don’t we play something else? The paper model from last time was only half done. Since we have time today, we could get it done at one go.
At this moment, the phone on the floor beside me rings. Seeing the familiar number, I tap on the hands-free function.
Nurse: Miss MC, the physical report done at our hospital is ready. Please bring your receipt and collect it within fifteen working days.
MC: Mm, got it, thank you.
Gavin is currently storing the Aeroplane Chess pieces into the box. Hearing this conversation, he gives me a puzzled look.
Gavin: Haven’t you already gone for a physical examination this year? Are you feeling unwell?
MC: No, no. I’m using the report for the registration.
I deliberately pretend to be secretive, leaning towards him. Then, I show him the registration form that I had submitted online beforehand.
MC: I’m going to get a Private Pilot License.
-
[ Part Two: First Day of School ]
On the first day of aviation training, I set the alarm to wake me up at 6.30am. Even Gavin is stunned at the level of enthusiasm I have for learning.
Tumblr media
Gavin: The courses for the aviation license can get pretty dry. You have to be mentally prepared.
MC: Are you referring to things like meteorology, aircraft structure, air traffic regulations?
Gavin: Mm. Aside from the exams, such knowledge is necessary for aircraft pilots.
While he speaks, he lifts his head to give me a smile.
Gavin: But they definitely won’t stump you.
After packing my things, I grab a random jacket and prepare to leave.
The classes take place in the suburbs, and it takes an hour to get there. Despite waking up early, I’d be late if I don’t hurry up.
But Gavin is clearly not too worried about this matter. He holds a slice of bread in his mouth while looking at his phone.
Gavin: Since I’m sending you there, you won’t be late. Before your first official lesson, I’ll give you a flight class.
I walk over to him, pulling up the zipper of his uniform, and also picking up the motorcycle helmet from the table.
MC: To prevent this from being a mere flash in the pan, I want to leave the joy of flight to the end of the course. But if going by land would make me late...
Gavin rolls the bread into his mouth, taking the helmet from my hand.
Gavin: No matter the route, you won’t be late. Oh yes, what class are you taking today?
-
[ Part Two, Option 1: Principles of Meteorology ]
Instructor: I’ll ask some small questions to test your foundation and see if you take note of knowledge in this area.
He opens the PowerPoint presentation, then uses a laser pointer to point at the image on the first page - it's a cumulus cloud with a flat bottom layer and a high, upward curve at the top.
Instructor: Does anyone know what this cloud is called?
MC: Cumulus congestus cloud.
Instructor: Correct. The next question - when the International Civil Aviation Organisation observes cloud volume, how many segments do they divide the sky into?
MC: It should be eight segments.
I recall that Gavin brought this up before.
Instructor: Not bad, miss. You did preparatory work beforehand, didn’t you?
MC: No no, I have a friend who has a better understanding in this area, so I was just influenced.
After saying this, chuckles drift from the surroundings. The instructor nods in understanding.
Instructor: In that case, you won’t have a problem during the exams.
MC: ...I’ll do my best.
After all, my confidence is limited when it comes to exams.
Just as I’m thinking about this, I receive a notification on my phone. Gavin has sent me an incredibly large document file.
Gavin: I don’t know how to teach, so I compiled some materials you might need for the exam.
I grip my phone, suddenly feeling like the weather is so good that it makes one carefree and relaxed.
It’s just an exam. I’ll definitely be fine.
-
[ Part Two, Option 2: Aviation Regulations Class ]
At 2pm in the afternoon, the sun shines from above. I had a full meal, so fighting against the sleeping bug is a difficult challenge.
Instructor: Before the flight, the captain has to carry out the necessary inspections of the aircraft. Until the inspections are complete, you can’t take off. This regulation is easy to understand. In fact...
When the dullness of the course matches how fine the weather is, the entire classroom gets immersed in a drowsy atmosphere.
I take a few deep breaths and pat my face... but I still feel like sleeping.
Instructor: Okay, we’ll take a 10 minute break. You students look sleepy, so go wash your faces to freshen up.
The moment he finishes speaking, the sound of heads plopping down on the tables can be heard all around.
Just as I prepare to stand up and stretch, my phone suddenly vibrates.
Delivery boy: Hello, I’ve placed your take-out at the main counter.
MC: Take-out?
But I didn’t order take-out...
While I’m puzzled, the young lady from the main counter very politely brings the item to the classroom - it’s a cup of coffee.
There’s only one simple line on the note of the take-out: Persevere for a little longer. Gavin.
I retrieve the coffee from the bag, taking a tiny slip. The instructor walks past, giving me a glance from the side.
Instructor: Are you drinking coffee or milk tea? You’re smiling so happily.
MC: Being able to swim in the ocean of knowledge is always meant to be a happy thing.
The instructor gives me an expression which says, “like I’d actually believe you”.
MC: Instructor, let’s continue with the lesson. I’m not drowsy anymore. Learning for another four hours is no problem at all!
-
[ Part Three: Being Your Co-pilot ]
Gavin: Do you want to head out for a stroll after dinner? It seems to be really cooling outside.
I’m currently taking out plates from the kitchen drawer, subconsciously craning my head to glance outside.
MC: It’s going to rain, isn’t it...
Tumblr media
Gavin: Really? I’ll check the weather forecast. Earlier in the afternoon, Eli mentioned taking out some time to wash his car at night. I even thought today would be a good day.
I step into the living room, setting down plates on the dining table.
MC: There are just some cumulonimbus clouds in the sky. It might not really rain.
Gavin scrolls through the real-time weather, then gives me a smile.
Gavin: It’s really going to rain.
He gets up, opening the rice cooker and scooping a full bowl of rice for me.
Gavin: At first, I even thought you’d find such theoretical knowledge boring. I didn’t think you’d learn them so earnestly. Looks like you really want to get the license.
MC: Of course. I want to be your co-pilot.
Although Gavin hasn’t even scooped rice for himself, he’s already served me a huge pile of vegetables.
Gavin: Sure. I’ll wait for the day you get your license.
Just as I’m about to talk about how assured I am about getting the license, I realise that the plate on my hand is becoming fuller and fuller.
Before I can even voice my question, Gavin responds.
Tumblr media
Gavin: Learning is tough. You need to eat a little more. I also bought you ice-cream. It’s in the second compartment of the freezer. I remember you mentioning that as long as you eat something delicious during difficult times, you can press on easily.
MC: ...hahaha! Mm! After having this meal, I’ll complete all my post-class homework!
-
[ Aviation Terminology Class ]
MC: Calling for the control tower. Number N8596 has arrived, and is requesting for a landing gate.
Gavin (through the phone): Number N8596, you may use aircraft Gate Number One.
Gavin’s light-hearted laughter drifts from the phone.
Gavin: Shouldn’t your class end at 7pm? It’s only 6pm.
MC: The plan was to be dismissed at 7pm, but... for some reason, those in my class were really interested in the Aviation Terminology class, so they did their preparatory work in advance. The three hour class was over in one and a half hours. The instructor said that we already grasped all the key points, so we were dismissed early. What about you? How much longer till you’re off work?
Gavin: For me... less than half an hour. You could think about what to do with this unexpectedly free hour. I remember that there’s a new dessert shop opposite the cinema.
MC: You remembered? I never even told you about it. How could you remember? Officer Gavin, you better tell me the truth. You didn’t remember it - you specially searched it up.
Gavin: Mm, I specially searched it up. I even found that there are claw machines along the shopping street on the ground level of the cinema.
MC: Looks like what I’m going to do in the next hour has already been scheduled.
Gavin: Wait for me at the office first. I’ll look for you once I’m done with the work on hand.
-
[ Part Four: Flight Practice ]
Today’s the first flight practice class. The instructor is sitting in the co-pilot seat, watching my every move throughout the entire journey.
I wasn't nervous at first, but each time he glances at me, I involuntary wonder if I’ve done something wrong.
In an instant, I recall the fear of taking the aviation exam...
Until the plane successfully takes flight, I keep feeling as though the thing suspending in the air isn’t the plane, but my heart.
Instructor: It’s rare for you to make a trip up here. What’s there to be nervous about? Come, lift your head and look at the sky.
At this moment, countless gripes flash across my mind: What’s so nice about the sky? I’ve seen all kinds of skies. Right now, all I want is to fly the plane...
But the moment I lift my head, I’m rendered speechless.
Instructor: How is it? The first time I saw it, I was so stunned that I couldn't speak either.
MC: It’s really beautiful.
Sunlight casts a layer of golden hue on the soft and white clouds, blending the colours of gold and crimson.
I’m unable to describe how the scenery before me makes me feel.
It’s a feeling which... makes one feel that life has meaning.
All of a sudden, another thought surfaces in my mind: I wonder what went through Gavin’s mind when he saw such a sight for the first time.
The instructor sitting next to me glances at me from the side.
Instructor: Thinking about your boyfriend again?
MC: [blushing] ...no!
Instructor: It’s normal. Each time I’m flying, I can’t help but think of my wife. There isn’t a reason to it. It’s just a sudden thought, an involuntary reaction.
The instructor laughs as he gives me advice with a contagious smile.
Instructor: If you’re thinking about him, just do it. It’s fine. It’s a normal thing. When you see certain things, your natural reaction is to think of someone.
MC: ...Instructor, I usually can’t tell, but you’re actually quite philosophical.
I grab the joystick of the plane, watching as countless clouds drift past leisurely.
All I want to do is take a photograph of this moment for Gavin.

Hi I absolutely love your headcanons. I have epilepsy and these can take many forms for me (full on seizures, absence seizures (looks like I've zoned out) and muscle spasms where I drop things and break them (I will cry cause I feel like my body is betraying me). I have anxiety and although I'm 4 years seizure free I always have a fear of 'what if today is the day' and having to remember to take my meds everyday. Can I have a HC of the boys taking care of MC with epilepsy and how they help her.
Although I’m not too familiar with the technical side of epilepsy, I did have a close high school friend who would occasionally get seizures during classes. I did a little research on my own time! Hope you enjoy it!
MLQC Headcanon - The closest one to you
Victor
You weren’t afraid to tell him about you having epilepsy (he didn’t want you to hide anything from him, anyways)
He wants you to describe everything to him (if you feel any pain, what medications you take, what he could do to help, etc)
He hires a professional to be your temporary carer
He didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t the one closest to you anymore
But with the way he is now, he won’t be that helpful to you
And he KNOWS that (that’s what makes it so frustrating)
He spends his free time between work to study up on epilepsy (and how to be a carer)
You’re worried that he’s dedicating so much of his precious time (and you know just how Victor feels about time)
“Have you forgotten who I am?” (he’s so cheeky sometimes)
He finishes clearing documents at a demonic speed (Goldman reiterates, I TOLD you he was an alien)
In the meantime, he does the simple tasks (ones that don’t require extensive knowledge)
He is ON YOU when you’re taking medications (Time is literally of the essence, MC)
He has a chart by his office desk with your details (so he knows what time, how many, how often you need to take the pills)
Because he can’t always be with you, he orders the professional carer to be by your side at all times (but makes him maintain a private distance that won’t make the CEO husband angry)
You haven’t had seizures for quite a while, but it’s always on the back of your mind
Victor knows that you’re worried about this (it makes him upset that there’s nothing he can do about it)
Although he can’t prevent future seizure from happening, he does his best to reassure you that he WILL be by your side to take care of you
“I don’t believe you, Victor” (this is your chance to make him BEG)
He doesn’t say anything for while, but picks up his phone to call someone
You can faintly hear the voice on the other side of the line
“Goldman, gather up all the employees in the building and have them meet at the main lobby” (....sorry sir, but can I ask just why...?)
“Victor, what are you—”
“Well, my wife here doesn’t believe me when I say I’m going to be by her side always” (....and....you want me to gather everyone because.....)
“Because if I actively proclaim my love to her in front of a crowd, she’ll trust my words” (he’s looking at you, smirking)
“Victor, you wouldn’t!”
“Try me”
The line hangs up (Goldman doesn’t get paid enough for this)
Kiro
He’s heard of it, but knows NOTHING about it (except a little about the seizures)
He’s scared when you talk about your past experiences
“And are you okay now?” (he has these puppy dog eyes)
“Well, I haven’t had these seizures for quite some time now” (omg you just want to hug him and kiss him all over)
Savin notices Kiro reading a lot more during schedules
Wait. Kiro. READING?????
Yes.
Sunshine boy is trying so hard to understand what epilepsy is
So he bookmarked all these articles online to read on his spare time
But God help him, he doesn’t comprehend what these words mean
He figured it was easier to just talk to a professional about it
Later in the week, he wants you to come over to his house on his day off
When you go inside, his entire house has been fortified
No more sharp edges, no more hard floors, security alarms set in every room?
“Ta-dah!” (Kiro proudly shows off his new home)
“Kiro...what....what’s all this for?”
“I think your apartment is too dangerous for you to stay by yourself” (he ushers you to sit down)
“It would be fine if I can regularly go to your house, but Savin said that’s too risky” (and risky it WAS, with all the fans following his every move)
“So I decided the best option was to bring you to MY home!”
Although it’s a little sudden, you can tell that he’s genuinely worried for you
“Haha...thank you, Kiro” (you get up to hug him)
“You’re welcome, MC” (he squeezes you even tighter)
“You’re free to use this house as you please. You can even change the interior here!” (No, that’s okay Kiro)
“When I can’t stay here during work, I’ll send my stylists over to check up on you” (he smooths your hair down)
“But don’t get too along with them! I’m going to get jealous!” (he puffs his cheeks out what the heck, that’s adorable)
You reach out to kiss his nose
“Don’t worry, you’re the only one I can get this intimate with”
He immediately picks you up, and you’re dangling over his shoulders
“Well, I don’t think that’s intimate enough” (sunshine? More like sun-KISSED)
Lucien
If there’s anyone more familiar with how epilepsy works, it’s Dr. Lu Lu
He knows more than you?
He doesn’t think it’s necessary to hire a professional carer (he’s the best carer, wdym)
He’s prepared to the fullest
You tell him that it’s been a while since your last seizure
“We can never be too sure, MC”
Although you haven’t moved into the same house yet, he frequently drops by your apartment (he doesn’t leave until the next day)
During lectures he always looks back at you (to make sure you’re doing fine)
AFTER lectures he makes sure your........physical form is in top condition (SFW if you know what I mean)
He worries that you’re overwhelmed with work sometimes
Offers to lessen your load by helping you edit videos
He’s actually good at making videos? (Youtuber in the making?)
You sometimes ask him to brew tea for you (it helps you relax)
He has a designated cup in his house just for you (when you’re not there, he places it in the display case)
You’re not actually interested in drinking tea
You just like how elegant he looks when he’s brewing
The soft smell of chamomile and lavender in his room is so calming
You fall asleep on his couch while he’s gathering some materials in another room
He’s slightly startled when he doesn’t hear your voice anymore (he quickly sets his papers down and crouches next to you)
Your cute snores make him laugh (he records it for future reference)
When you wake up, you’re back in your bed
“Lucien?”
He peers inside the door, pushes up his GLASSES, (yes I am a Glasses Lucien freak) and smiles at you
“Yes?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t plan on dozing off like that”
“No worries, I was able to keep myself entertained”
“Oh? What were you looking at?” (you step out to the living room, finding a stack of albums on the table)
???
“You were adorable in this zebra onesie” (LUCIEN PLEASE)
Gavin
He’s dealt with plenty of rogue evolvers during his missions
Most of them had seizures while their evols were going out of control
How different could it be? (Birdcop has never been more wrong in his life)
He’s so taken back when you explain epilepsy to him
The way you describe it makes it sound so terrifying?
He listens inventively to the first aid procedures
He follows through pretty smoothly, actually (damn right, he’s Agent B-7)
You notice that he’s a LOT more attentive towards you
He was always like that before, but it’s to a greater extent now
If you’re quiet for a minute, he starts to panic
“It’s okay, Gavin! I’m okay” (you have to stop him from busting down the bathroom door)
He doesn’t like it when he has to leave you to go on missions (especially ones where he doesn’t know when he’ll get back)
He assigns Minor and/or Eli as your bodyguard (for all locations EXCEPT your apartment)
Anna is responsible for watching over you when you’re home
He calls/texts you so often (it’s like he never left)
His mind is elsewhere during work (but he never fails the missions, because he’s AGENT BIRDCOP-7)
Something you don’t know is that Eli and Minor are required to send photos of you once in a while (something about him being unable to trust their words)
WORST. PEOPLE. TO. ASSIGN. THIS. TO.
Eli takes photos with himself in it (and the focus is not even on you)
Minor always takes them while you’re moving (he only manages to capture your afterimage)
Anna to the rescue, honestly (that’s an entire photoshoot)
The first thing he does after returning is checking to make sure you’re okay (he hugs you after his checkup is done)
“........Gavin, what are these gashes on your arm?”
“....so......what do you want for dinner tonight?”
F
I don’t know why, but I always make Lucien’s headcanons somewhat nsfw
I can’t help it, he just does that to me

1989: Joseph T. Wesbecker walked into his former employer Standard Gravure Corp and shot 20 workers, killing nine. He had been taking Prozac for a month. This shooting led to a landmark case, where the survivors sued the makers of Prozac, Eli Lilly. Wesbecker used a semiautomatic Chinese AK-47-style firearm, a 9mm pistol, and a .38 Special snubnose revolver – all of which he purchased legally, passing his background check.
1995: Jarred Viktor was 15 when he was prescribed Paxil. Ten days after starting it, Viktor stabbed his grandmother 61 times.
1996: At 18, Kurt Danysh murdered his father just 17 days after being prescribed Prozac by his family doctor, who failed to do even one psychological test. During his police confession, Danysh told police the medication made him feel odd, “I just act differently. I don’t have the energy or personality I used to. I spend half the time in a trance.”
1997: Luke Woodham stabbed his mother, then traveled to Pearl High School, where he was enrolled, using a .30-30 to shoot two students and wound six others; he was stopped by his assistant principal (aka a good guy with a gun) who used his own .45 ACP handgun to force Woodham’s surrender.
1998: 15-year-old Kip Kinkel shot both of his parents, then carried a 9mm handgun, .22 rifle, and a .22 pistol to his Thurston High School, where he murdered two classmates and injured 22 more, all while taking Prozac.
1999: Eric Harris, 17, with Dylan Klebold, killed 12 students, one teacher, himself, and wounded 23 others during the Columbine school shooting; he had been prescribed Zoloft and then Luvox before he used a 12 gauge shotgun received through a straw purchaser and a 9mm TEC-DC9.
2001: Christopher Pittman, a 12-year-old, was prescribed Zoloft, which caused him to become agitated, jittery, and experience tactile hallucinations; Pittman told psychiatrist Dr. Lanette Atkins that he heard voices telling him, “Kill, kill, do it, do it.” He took a .410 shotgun and shot his grandparents, then burned their house down.
2001: Andrea Yates drowned all five of her children. She was taking Effexor and was suffering from delusions about satanic possession. The murder of her children led Effexor to list homicidal thoughts in the medication’s side effects. Although it’s a rare side effect, manifesting in one in 1,000 patients, over 19 million prescriptions were written and filled in 2005. That’s an estimated 19,000 people suffering from homicidal thoughts because of the medication.
2005: 16-year-old Jeff Weise was taking 60 mg/day of Prozac, the highest dosage for adults, when he shot his grandfather, his grandfather’s girlfriend, murdered 10 students at Red Lake, Minnesota, and wounded 12 more, before shooting himself. He was armed with a .40 caliber pistol, .22 pistol, and a 12 gauge shotgun.
2008: Steven Kazmierczak was prescribed Prozac, Xanax, and Ambien, a sleeping medication, three weeks before walking into Northern Illinois University, killing six people and wounding 21, with three pistols (one chambered in 9mm and two in .380 ACP) and a shotgun. Kazmierczak had stopped taking the antidepressant “because it made him feel like a zombie.”
2009: Two weeks after starting Lexapro, Robert Stewart walked into his estranged wife’s work at Pinelake Health and Rehab, and opened fire. He killed eight elderly patients and wounded three others. He doesn’t remember the incident.
2012: James Holmes, also known as the Batman Movie killer, was taking sertraline when he walked into the showing of The Dark Knight with two .40 caliber pistols, an AR-style .223 rifle, and a 12 gauge shotgun, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. In his personal notebook, which he sent to his psychiatrist the same day as the shooting, shows that as the medication decreased his anxiety, he lost his fear of consequences. As the dosage became higher, his thoughts became more obsessive and psychotic.
2013: At the time of the Washington Navy Yard shooting, Aaron Alexis was a civilian contractor working at the yard and was prescribed trazodone, a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI) that works much like an SSRI to increase serotonin levels in the brain. He killed 12 people and injured eight others.
2014: Ivan Lopez was a 34-year-old U.S. soldier who shot 15 of his comrades, killing three of them, at his base in Fort Hood, Texas. He was undergoing mental health treatment through the Veterans’ Administration, which is known for over-prescribing medication. The VA confirmed that Lopez was taking antidepressants (the VA only uses SSRI antidepressants) during the time of the shooting and his subsequent suicide.
2015: From the moment it occurred, the Charleston Church shooting has been deemed an act of white supremacy, a race crime against blacks. But two years after Dylann Roof shot and killed nine people and injured another, the court released documents that show it was more mental health than hatred that led to the murders. The documents confirmed he was taking antidepressants.
2016: Arcan Cetin, who was just 20 years old, walked into the Cascade Mall where he shot and killed four women, one just a teen, and shot one man, who later died at the hospital. Records show that Cetin was under the care of a psychiatrist and taking medication for depression and ADHD, including Prozac

Hotaru (first draft is finished)
- Abt two men that are linked through a surgery called “synchronisation”, which basically connects their minds and bodies, so they are forced to work as a team. Ea is an ex-soldier and Cain was a hacker, but due to the fact that they can’t stand each other, they also didn’t share their pasts with each other. To pay someone to unlink them, they become bounty hunters and kidnap the girl Ai and her robot Subaru, which is one of the old military robots, called Hotarus (high technologised, operating, transforming, artificial intelligence, ranger units). They are connected to a human ranger and can transform into what the ranger wants them to transform into.
The Hotaru headquarters exploded 10 years ago and since then the Hotarus are super rare on the black market.
The two men plan on selling both the girl and her robot and let’s just say it all doesn’t work out that well.

The day the world turned white ( first draft is finished, working on it)
To stop global warming some scientists basically caused a new ice age. On the long run this might be very effective but the former countries, now sectors, are hit by strong ice storms, called snow white. To stay safe huge bunkers, the Safe Cities, were built and the local fauna and flora were stored in Arks, to preserve them.
Usually an alarm sounds before all citizens are brought into the SCs, but this time Reese and her best friend Yuki dont manage to get to the vehicles on time and are left behind. They seek shelter in a private bunker outside of town that Yuki found out about recently. Suddenly a group of boys their age knocks on the door, because they were also left behind and followed the girls.
Al, the brothers Eli and Isaac, Gil and Henry become the new bunker-mates and the group has to survive one year in the bunker, until the storm is over.
( I have a blog for this story, just search for The day the world turned white! There are pics and some posts for example abt which patronus/spirit animal the charas have!)
Reese/ Therese Wells
Al/ Alexander Glover
Yuki Sarah Brooke
Eli Green
Isaac Green
Gil de Santos
Henry Summers
The Sun will always rise (The sequel, probably forever unfinished)
About a group of rebels, the Sun Children, that are sworn enemies to the government and its ways to cope with Snow White.
Takes place abt one/two years after Tdtwtw.
Lucy and Aidan are kicked out of an underground organisation that stays in the cities underground system during the storm phases and the two wander around in the snow until Michael and Rin pick them up and bring them to the Sun Children. From looking into the snow directly to maneuver, Lucy has turned snowblind.
Yeah the plot is… not 100% existent.
Characters:
Lucy
Aidan
Michael
Kate
Gil
Bo
Finya
Rin
The XII Games ( First book is finished, i started the second one, unfinished)
A story abt spaceships that let slaves fight in games, if they win a certain number they are “free”. Cassidy makes it and is sold to a women, Trisha, that takes her home onto her home planet, where Cassidy lives a nice life and learns abt her heritage. One year later she meets Tobias again and she and Trisha are brought to a planet that is basically the universes capital. Cassidy has to take a more important role in the uproar of a war, than she ever imagined.( The cast members are mostly human looking but are other, non human, races)
Cass (Cassidy ) E’ Alandril
Tobias
On the slave ship:
Neala
Sam ( Samuel)
On Anterra:
Trisha  Willowrish
Max ( Maxwell)  E’ Alyndral
Lukas
Tori

On the Space sparrow:

On Capital Estellar:
Galea ( Galeandrih Fiyur’ Ihal)
Iyal
Wren Fawell
Luasia
Luminor the Shining
Fallen Angels ( A trilogy, one and a half books were finished, reconcepted)
We don’t talk abt this but it was one of my first stories i truly wrote.
Abt fallen angels saving the world or sth. It’s super clichee and just ugh.
The newer version would cancel some charas and make it abt rebalancing Darkness and Light in the worlds. With a more diverse cast and also different magical races. And a way less creepy Adam.
Eve/Evelyn White
Adam
Peregrine/Perry
Ray/Raven
Sera
Colin
Robin
Raphael
Ky/ Kyron
Gabe/Gabriel Frost
Bree/ Gabriella Frost
Indigo ( haven’t written it yet and i don’t know if i ever will, but have drawn stuff. I lowkey wanna see this as a comic)
A story abt a clan of shapeshifters, called Indigos. They are basically human that can shift into dolphins and their clan lives on an island near Australia. Its a modern story and the gang consisting of our local gay dolphin girl Keerie, her cousins Akash and Arjuun (younger brother, older sis), and Ky ( adopted as a child, japanese heritage, a different breed of dolphin idk) lives their “normal lives” with lots of shenenigans and drama.
Some day Keerie falls in love with Navy, the daughter of the owner of the local Aquapark (that the clan suspect also does illegal stuff like snatching wild animals).
Keerie
Arjuun
Akash
Ky
Navy
“Neo Alcatraz” ( reworks of a very old story)
To put it simply, there is a pack of scientists that bionically enhance children and send them off to different countries to basically be local superheroes. Our gang was kinda left behind bc the countries rather took the newer, better versions and here they are now, a bunch of supernatural teens facing the (not so) everyday struggles of life.
Atalanta
Chi
Callie
Lee
Victor/Konrad
Gemsona (just art)
Larimar
- has water powers and her backstory bases on my private/old Squads life story and a lot of me thinking of drawing music videos for her but never doing it
Anthea (art and headcanons)
- my Dnd Oc
The Bender Girls ( art and headcanons)
- basically some Avatar the last Airbender Ocs i made once
Daiyu
Hotaru
Yura
Sündenfall / Sinfall (short story)
A short story i wrote for a competition which is basically every crime series but magic.
Harvey is immortal, he dies and is revived, and solves crimes through it. Paige is basically his assistant and the case they are on is abt a person that kills magical beings and “arranges” the victims fitting to the seven sins.
Ilya Winter
Harvey
Paige
Delphi
Sphinx
The concept charas, that had a different storyline ( they were basically a team of magical beings that would solve cases… rather unconventional.) I considered reworking them into the new Fallen Angels concept:
Ilya
Harvey
Timothy
Worth mentioning:
Project Alpha (script, some art):
The script for a shortfilm i once made with my friends. A school class has a plane crash and only a few students survive, they all embody a different character archetype (the sunshine, the soziopath, the smart one etc.) They try to survive and are put through weird psychological mind experiments like the trolley problem.
To be honest, the concept had and still has a lot of potential and we just hadn’t the opportunities to rly set it the way we anticipated. The shooting day was super fun, though! Still laughing about the outtakes
Astral Chronicles (some art and a few chapters, unfinished)
A story Idea i still like but probably wont write like this because of copyright problems. Its basically a giant Crossover.
Its abt people who have an Astral( mostly a literature figure) they embody when they are dreaming. Their body stays in bed and is vulnerable but the Astral can basivally run around and has special powers. If the Astral dies, the person wakes up but i think when the body dies the person dies too? idk.
The Protagonist embodies Alice and there are also the White Rabbit, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell usw.
There was also some kind of conflict? I dont remember.
If i would ever rewrite it the Astrals would be embodiments of the Zodiac signs.
(does this even fit?)
The Fanfiction thing i wrote abt Peter Pan/ Jack Frost
- like i have tons of short drabbles and the start of a fanfiction and honestly i liked the ideas i had a lot
The ones we better not talk abt:
Part Hunter
Basically there was a being named eternity/aeterna that was shattered into oarts (like in TRC)
and chosen ones have to reclaim them.
The ones that basically die are turned into guardians, like Time and Space ( they had animal companions they were fused with i guess)
Melody is the current part hunter and has a tragic love story, her animal is a tiny horse thing??????
Idk
basically a long story in which i used my dreams as base for the episodes
The nameless story
Actually super interesting but too many charas and a too tiny will to draw action scenes or write them.
Like its based around a super popular game in huge spheres/buildings and the teams wear some anti gravity outfits and shoes and can walk on the walls and shit and can basically attack using elements/illusion/ conjure monsters idk.
And the main team had an opponent team that basically specialized in the 25272 other elements and some day they just fused teams idk.
There also was some prophecy shit abt the anchors, ppl that can control all elements the same???? Idk
Element guardians
- basically four teens that control the elements and do shit together
- at some point i gave all of them dragons
- still thinking abt this sometimes
- The originals:
Luna: the shameless self insert , earth, pony girl, bland blonde i think
Katy: Air, best friend, bubbly
Dan: The jock. Fire
Nick: The emo. Water
At some point Katy became Skye and Dan and Nick got other names but yeah-
Talent Academy
The story thats basically a ripoff of Alice academy. Like a school with hierachie between the students and ranks and shit and different houses and the students have powers IDK
If you read through all of this, bless you for showing interest in my stories ;) And hey, if you want me to rant about any of them, just send me an ask or a message!!!

Early in the second season of Veronica Mars, the show’s teen detective, played by Kristen Bell, gets her chops busted by biker gang leader Weevil for hanging out with the down-and-outs and gritty fringe folk of her Southern California high school. Veronica had once been one of elites, you see, but she lost her standing thanks to a reversal of fortune. She came to align with the underclass, but at the outset of season 2, Weevil (Eli Navarro) isn’t completely buying it. “Shouldn’t you be running for homecoming queen or something?”
Veronica never did do something like that — but she almost did. Creator Rob Thomas recalls that he once considered an episode in which Veronica would have been elected homecoming queen of Neptune High during her senior year (aka, the show’s sophomore season), “not as a reward for for being beloved by the entire school,” he says, “but rather because the underclass of the high school, the people she had helped along the way, would’ve all voted for her. I wanted her to win it as a sort of F.U. to all of the people who had expelled her from their world.”
Tumblr media
Thomas, who originally conceived Veronica Mars as a YA book series (with a boy protagonist named Keith, set in Austin, Texas), recalled this abandoned plot point after EW asked him if he still had the proposal he wrote for the novel. (He thought it was lost, but he found it in a catch-all folder labeled “Development.”) Reading the document for the first time in 20 years, he was struck by the strong interest in class (which made its ways into Veronica Mars) and the surprisingly dark bent; the proposal imagines Keith Mars using his detective skills for advantages that would allow him to regain his social standing. (You can read that proposal right here.)
“He was going to use fear and intimidation, the power of information, to climb back up the social ladder at his high school,” says Thomas. “[Detective work] was going to be used as a bit of a dark art. There was a bit of that on Veronica Mars, and there might’ve been quite a bit more of it had it sold as a cable show, but as a broadcast show, it was probably more imperative to retain a bit more likability.“
Thomas ultimately chose against the Veronica-as-homecoming-queen idea in season 2 because it didn’t make sense for the person she’d become and the experiences she had. “We might’ve been able to pull it off at the end of the first season when that class resentment fire burned brighter for Veronica, but true power over your rivals is not needing that kind of overt vindication. If Veronica had wanted or needed that vindication, it would’ve made her seem weaker, I think,” says Thomas. “The closest we ever came to playing something like that was Veronica getting a loud ovation when she was called across the stage at her high school graduation. She pauses, and she is surprised to hear her classmates show her some love. I wanted to show that by the time she left Neptune High, she had won the admiration of a large cross-section of her classmates.”
Besides, a sash and crown really ain’t Veronica’s style, anyway.
Rob Thomas is currently exec producer of The CW’s iZombie, which he developed with formerVeronica Mars scribe Diane Ruggiero-Wright. The new season begins April 4.

Twin City revolt! A chat with Christian from Minneapolis label mpls ltd.
It was September 2019 and I was at my first Gonerfest in Memphis. I had posted a few pics of the bands I’d seen when a pal from Mpls named Amy messages back, “Oh, my friend Christian is there. You and he should really meet since you’re both huge music fans!” Within the next hour Christian Fritz and I were face to face and chatting music.
Not only did we like a lot of the same bands/labels/scenes (namely Sarah Records, C86, Flying Nun, to name but a few) but he told me that he had a label as well, one called mpls ltd. He was nice enough to send me a bevy of records that he’d released and it was everything from cheery/noisy indie rockers Sass to tripped out freaks like Flavor Crystals and everything in between. Yes, Christian is documenting the varied and talented music scene in the Twin Cities and beyond. Read the interview, check out some of his bands (or all of ‘em) and you may learn a thing or two and discover a new favorite. After all he is “Bringing the sounds of Minneapolis to the world, and the sounds of the world to Minneapolis.”
Tumblr media
When did the music bug first hit you? Was there much music in your house growing up?
It goes back literally as far as I can remember. My mom gave me a Singer tabletop record player that she got with her sewing machine when I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. My dad’s albums were off limits, but he had a box with maybe a couple of hundred ‘60s pop and country 45s that I would play for hours at a time. I used to tell everybody that record player was my best friend which would terrify my parents.
Do you remember the first record you ever bought?
I grew up in rural Minnesota, and the first two 7”s I bought together with my own money at the local Ben Franklin were John Lennon’s “Nobody Told Me” and Nena’s “99 Luftballoons.”
 First concert? First indie/punk show?
Probably my first live music experience was seeing Billy Joe Royal of “Down in the Boondocks” fame with my family during one of our outings to the Minnesota State Fair at one of the free stages there, but my first real show was seeing Sonic Youth on the Daydream Nation tour at First Avenue when I was 16. It was my first time being in downtown Minneapolis, and the entire experience was mesmerizing for this young rural hillbilly. My friends and I worked our way to the front, and Kim Gordon stomped on my hand when I idiotically tried to reach for her bass pedal mid-set (I totally deserved it and wore that bruise like a badge of honor for days). One of my friends got kicked out for violating First Avenue’s then “stage dive three times and you’re out” policy. While in retrospect I cringe at a lot of my behavior that night, it was also when I finally discovered a world I hoped to be a part of really did exist.

Tell us about the beginnings of the label, when did it start and why? How did you decide on the name?
For as long as I have been in love with music, I have also wanted to make records. I even remember drawing records with crayons at an early age and trying to figure out a way to make them play (unsuccessfully). When I was in college at Saint Cloud State University in the early ‘90s, I tried my first attempt at starting a label called Timbre and released a 7'' by a local punk band called The Nothingheads. I was contacted by someone in Seattle who said they already had that label name (to this day I have never seen a release), so I changed it to Idyllwise which was a word I made up so that nobody else could take it. Josh Koch from Saint Cloud had moved to Australia and joined the band Patterson’s Curse with Matty Whittle who was in God and Greg Bainbridge who had played with Kim Salmon, so I jumped at the chance to release their debut EP in the States. Future releases were in the works from Minnesota bands Chast and Silver Rocket Band but I really had no idea what I was doing, got in way over my head, and the whole thing fell apart.
Flash forward to 1999: I had been working on my own breakbeat tracks, and decided to surprise some friends and make a professional looking demo by having a 7” pressed. Even though I had no intention of launching a label, I wanted the record to look like it was on one. I was listening to a lot of 70s soul on Philadelphia International at that time, and it occurred to me that I was living in Minneapolis and I didn’t have any money. Hence, “mpls ltd” (Minneapolis Limited) was born.
Although I was involved with a few releases, things didn’t really evolve from “vanity project” to “label” until 2004. My good friend Vince Caro had just finished recording his band Basement Apartment’s latest album “Transistor!” and asked if he could use the mpls ltd name just to have the CD released on a “label.” I asked to hear it first.  We were listening to it in my living room and were probably somewhere around track #5 when I knew I wanted to be involved, and asked if we could partner together on the release. That changed everything.
Were there other labels out there that influenced you to start a label?
Princeton Minnesota had a short-lived gem of an independent record store when I was in high school called McCarty Music that really didn’t fit the community, but I was so glad it was there for as long as it was. Carolyn who ran the store introduced me to the sounds of many brilliant bands on labels like 4AD, SST, and Touch and Go. Also as soon as we got driver’s licenses, my friends and I would drive from Princeton to Minneapolis just to go to Northern Lights or Let It Be Records any chance we got. I loved how those breathtaking early Sarah Records 7”s all included postcards with pictures from Bristol, and I would also buy anything on Creation that I could get my hands on. The brilliant bands from all over this earth that somehow found their way to Homestead Records before the days of the internet also had a major impact on me, in that “someday I hope I can do this too!”
Tumblr media
How many releases does Mpls Ltd have so far?
52 as of the end of 2020, plus seven 7”s from a short-lived “super split singles club.”
How did you get the records out to the world in the beginning (and even now)? Distribution?
In addition to my primitive website, I spent a lot of time in the early days pleading with places like Carrot Top and Parasol to carry my releases with mixed results. When Flavor Crystals opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre on their 2009 US tour, distributors from the UK and Europe started approaching me. Before the Bandcamp era, it felt like my bands could focus on tour sales and I could focus on retail. Now the artists and I discuss how our overall strategy is going to work before we do each release.
Weirdest/worst review one of your records ever got?
I can’t think of any that were terrible, but there were definitely some that were weird. The most recent one that comes to mind was Razorcake’s review of Partition’s “Prodigal Gun” last year. I was stunned when it was reviewed by Rev. Nørb of Maximum Rocknroll fame, but he talked a lot about how purple the vinyl and artwork was, with quotes: “I personally think this record is somewhat cool because it’s so purple, but I realize your situation might be entirely different”  and “This vinyl is seriously the purplest vinyl I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t be surprised if they find Barney dead at the bottom of the vinyl vat.” (He did also say “this sounds kinda like a cross between Exene Cervenka and Kathleen Hanna fronting Flipper” which spoke to me.)
Tumblr media
Are all the acts on the label from the Twin Cities or at least Minnesota?
While the label has a stronger Minnesota representation, I’ve released records from bands all over including UK act The Projects whose members included Mira Aroyo of Ladytron, Scotland’s Abagail Grey who was produced by Chris Geddes of Belle & Sebastian and Tony Doogan, and even a 7” from Damo Suzuki of Can.
How do you explain the plethora of great Twin Cities bands over the years?
The amount of amazing music that comes from here past and present is kind of insane! While the Twin Cities Metro is a large area, it’s also small enough where it’s easy to make friends with people in the music scene here. I moved to Minneapolis in 1995 after doing five years of college radio at KVSC, so I was already a superfan of many local bands including The Hang Ups, Babes in Toyland, and Saucer when I arrived. I never imagined getting to be good friends with some of those members. Witnessing the evolution of Real Numbers, I shouldn’t have been surprised as I was to eventually learn that Eli Hansen is as excited about the whole Sarah Records scene and bands like Felt as I am. I got three original members of The Litter onstage at the Kitty Cat Klub for mpls ltd’s 20th anniversary party in 2019, and I am not sure if I can ever top that.
Current favorite bands (anywhere…not just local)?
I have been very much into the new albums from Adele & The Chandeliers, Michael Beach, The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness, Flyying Colours, Moon Coven, and Jane Weaver so far this year. The Baudelaires who played several shows with Flavor Crystals on their Australian tour are finally getting ready to release their next record, and I cannot wait! I bought a ridiculous amount of fantastic new vinyl throughout the pandemic, and I am beyond excited to finally experience live music again.
Tumblr media
Five bands you wish you could release records by (defunct or not)?
Broadcast, Dolly Mixture, The Go-Betweens, Sparks, and Windhand.
Any advice for other people wanting to start a label?
Always expect the unexpected (for example: the pandemic was additionally terrifying while I was waiting for test pressings of two records as I realized that nobody would be touring or playing any shows for quite some time), trust your instincts, and don’t forget this is supposed to be fun. Things will inevitably get stressful at times, but you will also learn as you go. In the immortal words of Gibby Haynes “it’s better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven’t done.”
 What’s next for the label?
I am expecting test pressings for the new album from Minneapolis sludgegazers Another Heaven any day now, and there is a collaborative effort between Flavor Crystals and The Telescopes in the works.

My country (New Zealand) just discovered the four cases of community transmission for the first time in over 100 days.
I’m not gonna have school for three days at least because we’re going back into temporary lockdown.
I know it’s kinda stupid but I’m crying over this. I’ve been back at school for 4 weeks of term three plus like 5 weeks of term 2 (a total of like 11 weeks including the winter term holidays) and now I’m gonna be stuck at home again for at least 3 days
