Elijah McClain was suffocated by police in his neighborhood because he was wearing a wool face mask to stay warm due to a medical condition. He apologized and begged. Paramedics then OD'd him on Ketamine. He was a violinist and so the protests were lead by violinists. STOP KILLING BLACK MEN IN AMERICA.

Aurora police officer Nathan Woodyard was acquitted by a Colorado jury Monday in the 2019 killing of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man who died after he was put in a chokehold and given a powerful sedative. The verdict came weeks after a second officer, Randy Roedema, was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and third-degree assault. Another former Aurora officer, Jason Rosenblatt, was acquitted of reckless manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and assault in McClain's death.

"The investigation suggests that [McClain] received an intramuscular dose of ketamine that was higher than recommended for his weight," the report from Adams County Monica chief coroner Monica Broncucia-Jordan read. "Further, my review of all the body camera footage shows that Mr. McClain was extremely sedated within minutes of receiving a shot of ketamine. When he was placed on a stretcher, I believe he was displaying agonal breathing and respiratory arrest was imminent."

Aurora police officers responded to the scene and confronted McClain. An officer can be heard saying in body camera footage that they put him into a carotid chokehold, which restricts the carotid artery and cuts off blood to the brain, according to the Department of Justice. McClain can be heard saying, "I can't breathe," in police body camera footage.

My family watches the news in the morning, and one of the stories that was playing was the murder of Elijah Jovan McClain, and how the jury was able to convict one officer, but was split on the other one.
And I just. I don’t fucking get it. I really, really, REALLY can’t understand it.

Officer acquitted in Elijah McClain death gets job back and $200,000 in back pay
Nathan Woodyard was suspended for two years until jury found him not guilty of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide
Nathan Woodyard’s “reintegration” into the police force comes weeks after a jury found him not guilty of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Woodyard had been suspended without pay for two years since he was indicted for his role in the death of the 23-year-old. An Aurora spokesperson said city law mandated that the department offer him his job back after his acquittal in the criminal trial, and that he would receive $212,546 to cover the salary from his leave. The killing of McClain, who became unconscious as he was held down by multiple officers and then was injected with a dangerously high dose of ketamine, sparked national outrage and years of protests. McClain was a massage therapist and animal lover who had taught himself to play violin. Woodyard, one of three officers who have faced prosecution, is returning to his job despite playing a pivotal role in the initial stop of McClain and using force tactics that the local coroner’s office has ruled contributed to his death. “[Woodyard] has elected to reintegrate with the APD and is currently on Restricted Duty (not in uniform, no public contact, and no enforcement actions) pending next steps in the reintegration process,” a city spokesperson, Ryan Luby, said in an email, adding that Aurora’s city charter dictates that officers who face felony charges must be immediately suspended without pay until the case is resolved, and reinstated if they are acquitted.
