Y'all are TRULY sleeping on Hyacinth by S.M. LaViolette. Like, I really enjoyed Phoebe (first book in the series), but Hyacinth is on another level. It features:

--a scarred libertine duke

--a neurodivergent heroine (23 to his 36) who happens to be KILLER at playing cards (in part because she's counting them) and sneaks out at night to play them while dressed as a very awkward young man

--a very casual interest in kink from her that makes him (a kinky man) go "O_O"

--a shockingly fabulous scene in which he tries to get her to admit she's a girl by taking her to a brothel, making her watch two people fuck while sitting beside him, and rattling off like 75 slang phrases for "jerking it" before being like "there's nothing WRONG with it bOY MEN MASTURBATE IN FRONT OF EACH OTHER ALLLL THE TIME" and starting to pull his dick out

--her: "AHHHH NO--YES? NO!"

--RIDING CROPS!

--so MUCH begging from this man, SO. MUCH. BEGGING.

--they're switches, your honor

--squirmy carriage BJs

#i think reading this close to phoebe has also given me some personal insight about my reading habits #and don't get me wrong i wholeheartedly approve of phoebe it's a 4.25/5 and it's so fun #but to get a book into what is feeling like unless something goes wrong in the homestretch 4.5-5 range #at least with historicals... i need a hook beyond a well-written virgin/marriage of convenience book #unless ofc it's truly exceptional (see: devil in winter) i want to see like... SOMETHING happening that gives it a distinct feeling #(i think is probs why that first elisa braden series while fun w some truly standout entriesgot tedious after a point for me #bc it was like... all virgin marriage of convenience books with different spins)#the detail and thought that went into how she wrote hyacinth and its plot is so good to me #romance novel blogging #anyway this is a delightful book would recommend

I'm so sorry to hear that you've gotten negative comments on your stories, especially the ones where Kara struggles. I find it somewhat baffling considering she's the main protagonist of the show and literally the way she is because of those struggles both what she's been through and ongoing. How can you love SC and not like both characters and want to read about both of them as individuals?!

Like the best kind of stories for me are the ones that acknowledge both of their struggles and the very different ways they've dealt with them. If you look at Kara's history, the fact that she's lost her entire world (multiple times!), been stuck in basically torture for years in the Phantom Zone, again, multiple times, and not allow her to have struggles and flaws to have to process?! It's kind of cray. It would be the most unrealistic thing for her not to have any issues whatsoever.

I do hope you'll at some point get back to writing SC but I totally get if you don't. I'll support you and your creative endeavours regardless.

By the way, I recently came across "Eat the rich" by ThornedRose44 that reminded me of this. Basically it's about Kara's struggles with guilt and Lena's patience with it. It's a wonderful read and reminded me of this, that we very rarely get to read about Kara's struggles. I'm faulty of that as well, I tend to gravitate toward the fluff rather than angstyness, I tend to need to pick times when I can handle reading them. But I want to read about both of them, not just one or the other having stuff to deal with.

Anyway, I join others in being upset on your behalf, you're like my fev author and it makes me sad that someone takes their issues on someone who just wants to share their creative work with others.

thinking about togruta!anakin and how fucked up that would make things, canon-wise. like,,,,togrutas have unique markings (or so i like to believe) on their lekku, montrals and faces. even after getting burnt to a crisp, im guessing anakin's would still be somewhat recognizeable (or if they weren't you would still be able to tell that vader was not human)

people would be able to tell that's him under the mask, eventually, because what are the fucking chances? and it wouldn't be wise for him to completely cover them with armour because good luck with hearing and sensing stuff.

but, most importantly, luke and leia would know they're somewhat related because honestly,,,,two half human-half togruta young adults around the same age who happen to have identical face markings and very similar lekku/montrals? there arent many explanations lol

and luke, noticing swirls he knows like the back of his hand beneath vader's charred skin? he would know.

i'd totally love to expand on this one day, especially on the additional damage made by lava to anakin's nervous system contained in his montrals lololol

Q: How did you discover it or get interested in it? A: I heard they were finally committing to the "Anne Rice TV show thing" probably via, Maven of the Eventide / @elisaintime, naturally I was curious, I was at first spectacle, but after a while I grew to appreciate it, even if as it's 'own thing' (x).

Q: What was your favourite episode of season one? A: "In throes of Increasing Wonder" it is so... horrifying (affectionate).

Q: What’s a character you’re excited to see more of in season two? A: Delainey's Claudia and Roxan's Madeline! Also, Sam’s Lestat, naturally.

Q: What are some of your predictions for season two? A: I'm not much of a speculator in that regard, I anticipate more questioning of Louis' POV (and more sympathy for Claudia and her fate) (literally no one is reliable in this universe) and shifting to more Lestat, but likewise, the ever-talented Assad as Armand's steering the narrative, maybe hints about AMC's TVA.
