Fears- Book 1: Awakening [Chapter Epilogue - take a shot in the dark]
As the two entered the bus and took their seat, Willa and Nicolas slumped and broke whatever composure remained within them from the night before. The latter of the duo more so as he looked to the forest. His unquestioning disdain reared for a brief moment before he watched it all pass by.
-I should really get my thoughts in order…- he mentally mused. Much had happened with little time to comprehend during the course of the night, he could only wish he could forget. Even if the possibility of it all was as little as the information hidden from him with his newfound omniscience.
But as he slowly closed his eyes, hoping the troubles of tonight could be chased away by the dawn of today a very calculated but still very high-pitched voice roused him from his near slumber.
“Nic?” His body tensed and yet it relaxed as fast he flinched, looking to the seats across his and Willa’s.
There were two kids, roughly adolescent, possibly younger, one a boy and the other a girl. They gave Nicolas a look of weary, but he was glad all the same to see his cousins regardless of how much he went through. And he wouldn’t trade their care for anything regardless of the years that go by.
The boy wore a white shirt with black overalls & white sneakers, his hair was covered by a dark grey flat cap alongside a white eyepatch covering the right of his dark brown eyes. Which roused some worry, then again, Nicolas had heard on the phone he was caught in an accident so many months ago. Perhaps that was the result, as he looked to Nicolas with a somewhat weary and inquisitive expression.
The girl was albino much like Nicolas. Wearing a white dress that was almost completely covered by a black poncho, much too big for her to use alongside a  thick white wool scarf. Her hair was somewhat braided and looked at Nicolas with energetic and red eyes as she kicked her legs at the edge of the seat with black boots.
“Oh, hey Edwin, hey Delilah” He greeted his cousins sluggishly, almost forgetting how strained his voice was despite the fruit Elissa had given him. Almost, as if hearing it again combined with the suddenly concerned looks of his cousins made him cringe in embarrassment.
“Are you okay Nic?” Edwin asked. He looked about as worried when he saw Nicolas and Willa enter the bus fully exhausted from who knows what.
Nicolas for a moment released a tired sigh. He did not want to talk about what happened last night and simply responded with “It’s a very long story, but just know my friend and I waited for you guys to come here” which wasn’t a full lie, his parents did inform him of their arrival so that could work for now whilst Willa was lulled to sleep. The adrenaline and danger have long gone, in order to rest peacefully.
The twins gave a nod, perhaps this was for another time, and letting their cousin rest was acceptable. For now. “Hey, Del?”  Edwin asked his twin who looked at him with an intrigued hum “do you think there’s something going on with cousin Nic?”
“Hmmm…” Delilah let out a slow and contemplative hum before dismissively shrugging “I’m sure he’s fine” She answered with a bit of a cheeky grin. Bringing some relief to her twin and yet, still found more suspicions as they waited for their stop.
… "So, guess I'll seya with Daniel and Selene later today?" Willa asked Nicolas, the two now at a stop near her own home, a small stroll away from familiar sight.
"Willa...you do realize we both need some sleep right?" he deadpanned whilst pinching the bridge of his nose. As much as he wanted to retort any further, his mind had long been fatigued. Willa let out a quiet chuckle at his response "I know, just wanted to mess with ya, you grouch" A large grin grew on her face as she spoke, before playfully punching the side of his shoulder she waved Nicolas goodbye before walking the rest of the way home.
Despite the events that happened, Willa found herself at ease, looking at the stone in her hand, she felt a strange sort of comfort while she passed by the trees.
at least until she made a reasonable excuse for her sudden disappearance in bed to her mothers. ...
Nicolas entered his room more fatigued than when he first left and found annoyance by how messy his room was prior to his departure. It even had a cobweb alongside a spider in the corner of the ceiling.
Haphazardly dropping Visera, he plopped himself onto his bed, now safe from whatever dangers laid before him and yet dreading for the day he would be called again whilst the small abomination slithered away from view.
Briefly looking at his bedstand, he noticed a large dusty but familiar tome on it, its cover metaphorically taunted him to open it.
Nicolas took a moment to breathe a sigh of disappointment before grabbing the tome, he had to guess Fennec had transported it to his room, post-incident. Much to his chagrin, but then again the contents tempted him, and now safe from whatever horrors lying beyond the town he let his scowl slowly turn to a soft smile.
“Maybe one read couldn't hurt…”

Some more Levinstar. Fight me.
~~
Mike’s life was going fairly well, if he did say so himself. He was wrenching a successful acting career essentially out of the aether with naught but skill, good looks, and his own riches. One of his best friends was a member of the Elite Four. The other was a big name in tech circles around the globe. Young mutants everywhere looked at him as an idol. His pokemon were healthy and vibrant enough to feature in magazines across the region. Yes, he and Elena’s elementary school ‘if neither of us are married by thirty’ agreement was looking more and more likely to be followed through on, but really in the end life was good. Very good.
Which is why he was kicking himself about his inability to just cross a fucking room and-
“Mike, if you don’t go talk to him I will.”
“Fuck off, I saw him first.”
Galas were essentially Mike’s lifeblood. He could schmooze and socialize with the best of them, a master of social maneuvering before he’d even started his pokemon journey. But tonight he’d found himself hopelessly distracted, enough so that Elena had been forced to rescue him before he made of fool of himself in front of somebody important. So there they were, stood at the edge of the room with glasses of champagne Mike’s service Delcatty was very cross at him about. But what could you do, when nobody ever planned for non-drinkers at these things and you were stuck staring at a very handsome man from the other side of the crowd.
“I can’t believe you’re too nervous to go talk to somebody. You flirt like attention is air!”
“I am not nervous, I just… am waiting for the right moment.”
Kevin fucking Levin was at this event. Mike had three of his books at home. Two of his sculptures. He was, at that moment, wearing a Xerneas brooch on his scarf that had been designed and handmade by the very bastard. What did you say in that circumstance? He couldn’t pretend to be unfamiliar with the man’s work, he was wearing it and the people who came to events like this knew everything about what they wore, but he didn’t want to risk coming across as some obsessed fan, no matter what the evidence might say. Normally if he met someone he was a fan of at these events it was other people in film and media, and he could use work as an icebreaker. If they were trainers he could turn to Elena for an introduction, which made things easier. It was only a good impression he wanted to make, there wasn’t really any pressure, but here, with Kevin…
He’d seen the man and his insides had done things that hadn’t since he was a teenager.
Across the room, the artist broke away from the little group he’d been talking with a smile, beelining for an empty spot near a far wall.
“Now’s your chance, he’s alone and unprotected!” As subtly as she could- they were at a formal event- Elena began shoving Mike in his direction.
“Hey!”
“I don’t want to have to marry your flat ass, move!”
Sending a glare over his shoulder at her, Mike did as instructed, weaving around the crowd toward what was, if he was quite honest, the most handsome man he hadn’t met yet. There was only a brief pause in his forward momentum, a stop by a decorative mirror to fix his hair and clothes, check his makeup. Perfection was required for these events, yes, but something like this called for an entirely new level of it. He didn’t just want to make a good impression, he wanted to dazzle. To that effect he also took the time to check Elissa for any out of place fur or loose threads in her vest.
Perfection.
Kevin was stood with his back to the crowd, fingers buried in his service Espeon’s fur as he inspected one of the sculptures on display. It wasn’t fair, no man should’ve had arms like that. Or a jawline like that. Or cheekbones like that. If Mike hadn’t been so into it he’d have had to kill him for daring to look so good. As it was it was surprisingly difficult not to reach right out and touch him. With an easing breath Mike slipped casually into place behind him, pulling out his most charming smile.
“What do you think, was it worth what they paid for it?” There was no sign of surprise when Kevin turned- people with Espeon were rarely surprised by anything- and holy shit his eyes were even browner in person. How was that allowed? At least there was a bit of a victory to be gained as Mike’s heart lodged itself in his throat, the other man going pink as soon as he saw him.
“I don’t think so,” he said, “but then abstract has never been my style.” He glanced back at Mike, going a shade darker, and the blond silently cheered what he was going to call a success. “Nice brooch.” Fuck.
“Thank you,” he said as if he wasn’t worried about coming off too big a fan, “was made by a very talented artist.” Kevin shrugged.
“Couldn’t get quite the colors I wanted,” he said.
“It’s perfect,” Mike replied almost before the other’s sentence was done. Kevin took a deep breath, rolling his shoulders as the color began fading from his face, then turned to face him completely with a smile that could’ve melted butter.
“So, Mike Morningstar.” He knew his name. This wasn’t surprising- he was a famous actor for fucks’ sake- but it still set his heart jumping.
“Kevin Levin.” And the man went pink again, at least this time he stayed looking at him.
“You know,” he said, “I’ve been watching your movies since I was yea big.” He put his hand as a spot just below his waist. Mike chuckled.
“Give I’ve been making them since I was that size, it’s quite a compliment.” Kevin shrugged again, still with that damn smile.
“You’re good, and most of your films are up my alley. Especially since you stopped being the bad guy.” That had been part of what had him using his own riches- if he was the one funding the movies then nobody could try to shoehorn him in as a villain, or brush off his auditions with excuses that barely hid the actual ‘there’s no place for chompers like yours in this’ reasons. Besides, it meant he could get more mutants involved, as much out of spite as anything.
“I try.” He considered and discarded several directions to take this conversation. “I don’t think I’ve seen you at one of these events before?” He knew he hadn’t, he’d have noticed, but if he said that it might come off creepy.
“Everyone kept telling me to come to one of these and network,” Kevin groaned, throwing an exaggeratedly put-upon look Mike’s way. “It’s not really my thing. I like my workday chill and my parties loud, ya know?” Mike didn’t know. He could make any social gathering work, but this was his native habitat, and work for him was hustle and bustle and at least one case per film of someone threatening to quit over something inane. (The last one had involved one of his costars sneezing on a camera and the man behind it, already stressed by a long day, late dinner, and impending wedding, throwing up his arms and swearing he was abandoning the industry entirely. He’d come back, but Mike had still made sure he had the week until the wedding off alongside the time he was already taking for his honeymoon.)
He didn’t necessarily understand it, but he knew the area, as well as an opening when he saw one.
“Well,” he said, inching just a bit closer and internally preening when Kevin looked him over instead of moving away, “if you’d rather, I know a few bars around here where we wouldn’t get too many strange looks for showing up in formalwear.” The smile that crept onto Kevin’s face was sharper this time, more purposeful. This time he was the one in motion, scooting just close enough for his hand to brush against Mike’s.
“Do you now,” he replied. “Ya know I haven’t really gotten to explore around here before, I would love to get the tour.”
Yessss.
“Well then-” Mike put out his arm, actively preening when Kevin took it with an appreciative look and a flash of teeth. “-let’s get you someplace less stuffy, hm?” It wasn’t too early to go, nobody would even miss them. Well, the paparazzi might, but he got gossiped about constantly anyway, and Kevin was very attractive with those coffee dark eyes, so… Fuck it.
“Lead the way, Mr. Morningstar.”
It didn’t take them long to reach the exit, especially as they skirted the crowd, evading the people already too drunk to respect their pokemon were working and saying goodbye to enough people that there wouldn’t be excess talk. Given the way Kevin bristled when people approached his Espeon, Mike was glad he was getting him out then, before he could make a scene and cause himself trouble. He lead him quickly past those sorts, throwing a wink at a grinning Elena before he slipped them out the back doors.
If he played his cards right, his life was about to get a whole notch better.

OC Details - DA OC Canon Posse + MGITs
From @3n-vee‘s “Extremely Detailed OC Ask Meme”
For Tash Adaar, Owain Bonneville, Henry Lucas, Cal and Ava Hawke, Morgan Walker, Aster Amell, Katie Cousland, and Reyn Caron
I started with Tash, then decided to only do the fun ones and add more characters. *shrugs*
The Basics
1. Age, Birthday, Star Sign (Tash only)
12-13 at the beginning of Inquisition, 15 at the end of Trespasser. Born 18 Guardian, 9:28 Dragon. Sign: Fervenial
3. Orientation and Relationship Status
Tash is a child, but when he is older, he will find he is gay. I kind of ship him with Kieran so that everyone is one big happy familly (Aster is cousins with the Hawkes, Cal adopted Tash, who eventually marries Kieran, son of Morrigan and Morgan.)
Owain is also a gay man who I have not yet settled on a canon relationship for. but whom I ship quite hard with @herald-divine-hell‘s OC Amayian Trevelyan
Henry is a panromantic asexual man whose relationship status I have not decided yet. Perhaps Cole.
Cal is a bisexual man married to Varric.
Ava is a straight woman married to Sebastian but also in a polyamorous relationship with Fenris.
Morgan is a biromantic and demisexual man in a committed relationship with Morrigan. Although I also ship him with @herald-divine-hell‘s OC Alexandra.
Aster is a homoromantic graysexual man married to Alistair.
Katie is a bisexual woman and single.
Reyn is a demiromantic bisexual man who I might decide to put in a relationship.
6. Headcanon VA  (Tash only)
Unknown - although Tash does have a Marcher accent, slightly less thick than Blackwall’s.
7. Occupation (Tash only)
Former Lord Inquisitor, Lord of Ylenn Basin, and Heir to the Viscount of Kirkwall - also Knight-Enchanter?
12. Own any pets?
Tash has a pet fennec fox named Harold.
Ava and Cal have a mabari pet named Socks.
Aster has a mabari hound that originally belonged to the late Elissa Cousland that he named Barksy, although to anyone besides Alistair or Aster, he must be referred to as Ser Barksy or Lord Barksy.
13. Have any kids?
Morgan, of course, has Kieran with Morrigan. He wouldn’t mind more if she was up for it.
Cal has officially adopted Tash with Varric as of Trespasser.
Ava and Sebastian are trying for an heir to the throne, although she may already be pregnant by Fenris. None of the others have children.
Owain, Aster, and Katie will want children eventually. It’s more complicated for Alistair and Aster since the Ferelden throne passes by blood. Aster wouldn’t mind taking care of Alistair’s child by a surrogate should circumstances prevent adoption.
Reyn doesn’t think children will happen for him, as a Warden, but should a child be born, he will love and care for them above all else.
Henry is undecided on children. As is Tash.
15. Can they sing? Can they dance?
Tash loves to dance and sing. He’s an average singer, but was trained well in court dancing, and enjoys making appearances at balls and events.
Aster is more clumsy than a drunken druffalo, and is terrible at dancing, but he’s a surprisingly good singer, who would sing many duets with Leliana back during Origins.
Cal and Ava only sing when drunk, although Ava learns to dance well.
Owain both dances and sings like a trained bard.
Reyn and Katie never sing, but both are passable dancers.
Morgan likes singing to Morrigan and Kieran, and dancing with his wife (and occasionally with Zevran or Leliana), but isn’t comfortable with very many others.
Henry can’t dance very well, and can only really sing in a crowd, but does both on his own anyway.
18. Have any special keepsakes?
Tash keeps a pair of specialized horn cushions Josephine had commissioned for him at Skyhold and finds them wonderful to sleep in. He also adores the handcrafted chess set he whittled with Blackwall.
Owain will keep anything given to him or made for him by his lover, wearing it if possible or at least keeping it nearby.
Henry has his phone, with all the memories it brings. It has long since lost its charge, but he keeps it close anyway as a reminder.
Morgan has the ring given to him by Morrigan, as well as a smooth river stone that Kieran inscribed with the same rune Morgan has tattooed on his bicep.
Aster still has the rose Alistair gave him, enchanted to never lose it’s beauty. It reminds him of his husband’s sweet nature. He also has a small figurine of a Circle mage that an older apprentice in Kinloch (Anders) made for him when he was very sad one day.
Katie has her charm bracelet from before she came to Thedas which acts like a talisman for her to know that she really did come from another world.
Reyn has a scarf made for him by a stable boy he loved before leaving his family estate for the Academie des Chevaliers and a Dalish wedding ring given to him by an elven bride who he spared before going into exile and joining the Wardens.
Interests
19. Hobbies (Tash only)
Singing, dancing, writing, doing paperwork, chess, listening, dog care, designing fashion and furniture for the Inquisition, collecting Orlesian masks, and attending Orlesian theatre.
21. Fave food(s) and drink(s)
For some reason, Tash loves the notoriously awful-tasting Orlesian pastry known as the “Exquisite Misery.” It serves as an inadvertent power move in Orlesian circles, but his absolute favorite food is fresh-baked bread (reminds him of his home). Tash also enjoys hot cocoa ever since the Iron Bull shared some of his supply.
As a rule, Aster likes sharing Orlesian charcuterie with Alistair as a picnic in their chambers or the courtyard when they can get away from affairs of state. He’s also partial to fruit juices.
Morgan, Henry, and Katie all wish pizza was a thing in Thedas. There is a dish similar to it in Antiva, but nothing quite resembling it. Katie has gotten the closest to having actual pizza, being a noblewoman with cooks she can instruct. Morgan has inadvertently addicted Morrigan to coffee when he found out how to make it using magic. Henry likes water, but it’s hard to find a stable source of clean drinking water in Thedas. Katie adores tea.
The Wardens don’t often have fine food, and Reyn misses petit fours. He enjoys his personal Warden liquor mixture - Commander’s Concoction.
For Fun
37. Do they have any phobias?
Tash is a timid person in general, and is afraid of miscellaneous things from spiders to dolls with buttons for eyes. But no real debilitating phobias.
Cal, Ava, Aster, and Henry all fear spiders.
Owain hates heights.
Nugs freak Katie out.
Morgan and Reyn feel fear, but have no phobias.
43. What pokemon would your character be (if they’re already a pokemon/gijinka tell us what they are, and how that’s affected them)?
Tash Owain Henry Cal Ava Aster Morgan Katie Reyn
44. What’s their pokemon team? Try to pick all 6.
Tash Owain Henry Cal Ava Aster Morgan Katie Reyn
45. Theme song (and a playlist if you’ve got it!)
Tash: “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift or “It’s a Good Day” by Kay Starr
Owain: “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine and for romance: “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles
Henry: “No Rain” by Blind Melon or “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding
Cal: “Dream On” by Aerosmith and for romance: “I Can’t Help Myself” by the Four Tops
Ava: “Royals” by Lorde and for romance: “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” by Taylor Swift
Aster: “Can You Tell Me How To Get to Sesame Street?” (2000) and for romance: “Love on Top” by Beyonce
Morgan: “People Are Strange” by The Doors and for romance: “Beauty and the Beast” by Angela Lansbury
Katie: “I Love It” by Icona Pop feat. Charlie XCX
Reyn: “The Wanderer” by Dion
46. If this character was in a musical, what would their motif be (what kind of instruments do you hear, what’s the tempo, ect).
Tash: Simple peppy flute that gradually becomes joined by other instruments to form a full-sounding orchestra with complex melodies.
Owain: Slow, sad piano that is joined by violin and becomes strong and anthemic.
Henry: Plucked cello strings. Inquisitive.
Cal: Brass section, room for improvisation. Bright and joyful.
Ava: Oboe and Bassoon, deep and reflective.
Aster: Fiddles and flute, playing simple fast-paced dance music.
Morgan: Orchestration accompanied by electric guitar - shouldn’t work together but it does here.
Katie: Sharp woodwinds and guitar. Very formal, almost like wedding dance music.
Reyn: Acoustic guitar trio. Perhaps Spanish guitar. Contemplative and sexy.
The Deep Lore™
49. What are some themes tied to your character’s story?
Tash, Aster, Henry, Katie- Loss of Innocence
Owain, Ava - Self-Acceptance
Cal, Reyn - Mutual Pining/Unrequited Love
Morgan - Found Family, Parenthood

Chapter 3 ~ The One The Devil Sent
The candle shone in my face. It felt crazy to be up on the stage, to be singing, and nonetheless singing the song Think Of Me. But even as I stood there, in the dress of Elissa and the scarf in my hand, the fact didn't leave me: I was ruining the story.
It was amazing being here, yet now I was out of the ballet for now and into Christine's role. And Christine was just as bitchy as Carlotta, who may I repeat ISN'T REAL IN THIS WORLD.
I soon came to the end of the song, and I vocalized to it, before my voice rose and the song ended. Quickly I scurried off the stage and girls, including Meg, attacked me practically with hugs, words becoming a jumble as Madame Giry came over and banged her cane. "He is proud of you Miss Bournival, yet also quite upset. We will speak of it soon. And you," Her eyes snapped to the poor ballerinas. " You were absolutely horrendous. Go to the studio and practice, NOW"
Him? Was she speaking of the opera ghost? Proud, I don't understand. My voice was nothing compared to what Christine could do. However, upset, I understand. He wished for Christine to sing this, not me. What else was there to speak of?
"Victoire. Go rest, we will speak in the morning. It has been quite the day and night." Madame Giry said to me, turning around, her dark hair curled up into a tight bun.
"Goodnight, Madame Giry" My voice came out soft and weak. She was so intimidating, it was scary.
I watched as she left, before I started to walk towards the room, the Prima Donna room. My body seemed to know just where to go, where to take a turn and which turn to take.
I was quiet as I entered the room. Unlike Carlotta's original pink crazy room, it was covered in shades of coffee browns and dark reds. It was much more tame than the pink monstrosity. I look around and saw the mirror. This was Christine's mirror, and behind it, the passage to his lair.
Why was I here? Oh goodness, this all was a dream. But I was ruining the story. Christine was supposed to be here, and Erik was to be exposing herself to her tonight, through that mirror. A knock came at the door and Madame Giry came in. She carried some flower bouquets. "Victoire, how are you feeling?"
"I feel good, Madame Giry" I quickly replied, a fear in my voice.
"The managers are proud, you brought them more money." She replied, rolling her eyes just the tiniest bit
"That all they care for isn't it, Madame Giry. Money this and that. Pull a con if they must" I jested a bit, smiling a small smile.
Madame Giry smiles and nods, before having to leave to teach the ballet rats. The room was covered in silence. No Raoul, for I wasn't Christine, and no Erik, for I wasn't Christine. I go to the closet and look for something to change into. My clothes, as I was assuming they were mine, were all placed in there. All the brightened colors of the rainbow. I pulled out a nightgown and pulled it on, and pulled on a silky robe. I sat on the bed and started to pull out the many dozen pins in my hair.
ERIK'S POV------
I stare at the red-haired girl from the other side of the mirror. She was not Christine. But her voice was nice. I watch as her fingers pulled pin after pin out of her hair. Madame Giry called her Victoire.
Her voice was good, not nearly as good as Christine's. Christine was precise and nearly perfect, while this Victoire girl was raw and emotional. I watch as she softly sang.
"Angel of music...guide an guardian...
grant to me your glory..."
Only Christine knew of the Angel of Music. Perhaps when this girl was still around Christine, she spoke of me?
I was curious. Yes, I wanted my Christine, yet I was as curious as one of those ballet rats about this one girl.
"I am your Angel of Music...." I sang out to her
Victoire's POV-----
The deep voice filled the room as my eyes looked up and shifted to the mirror, watching it open as I stood up and headed over to it. Erik stood there, his mask glowing a soft white, and his hand reached out. It was like a hypnosis attempt. And wow, it was working.
I took his hand and slowly, we made our way down to his lair.

The English School of Mongolia Mini-Review (part 1)
Performance Date Unknown (video uploaded August 7, 2017) Cast Unknown (Uploaded by a Batkhuyag Gansukh)
The opening titles are all in English, with a voiceover in (I think) Mongolian - I’ve never heard Mongolian before so I can’t confirm it but considering this was made in and filmed in Mongolia I think it’s a safe bet. Before we get going we have a few lines from Music of the Night, and then the title in plain serif font against a backdrop of swirling smoke. This is professionally filmed, with the school’s logo in the top corner and well-done titles.
Prologue/Overture: - the auctioneer has a top hat - the set is relatively simple but that serves it well - the curtains open partially to reveal the auction, with the chandelier behind a scrim curtain reading ‘Lot 666’ on it and the actors arranged around it. auctioneer is stage left/house right, with three other people beside him; on the other side are Raoul and Madame Giry and a boy who I think is supposed to be Raoul’s nurse. the whole scene is done in bright light, with elements of blue and purple, and the costumes seem to be at least attempting Victoriana - behind the chandelier are several boxes (they look like instrument cases) - it gives the stage a nice “abandoned” look - this is professionally filmed, with multiple cameras - Raoul’s voice sounds really stilted, kind of stiff - a lot like a typical relatively untrained high schooler. He might be effecting a character voice due to his supposed old age, though? - the chandelier looks nice, and the electrical effects are really neat, though the lights started before the organ did - SPEAKING OF THE ORGAN there is heavy abuse of synth here. Whoever’s playing somehow missed the “pipe organ” key and decided to settle on “church organ/baseball field organ”. The effect is… interesting. - the chandelier just rises into the air and strobes, before going dark so that a scene change can be done - while I understand the necessity of a blackout in high school theater to cover over any errors or problems, I do wish we could have seen the opera house being transformed. - I think this overture is being played live, organ-only? mad props to whoever’s doing that - the rest of the orchestra joins in for the latter part of the overture and the organ completely drops out, or at least goes quiet enough that i can’t hear it, and they’re really very good. This is hard material to play for high schoolers and they’re doing a nice job.
Hannibal: - Carlotta is a little off-pitch? but her voice is good, and I get the sense that it’s just because she was completely a cappella with nothing to guide her, because she maintains a good consistency? - the costumes range from original pieces to attempting a Bjornson feel - Reyer is a woman!! a very pretty woman with short hair in a tuxedo. - the corps de ballet doesn’t do ballet? but their choreography is obviously based on the original and it’s nice to see that kind of consistency - as I see closer shots I think there might be a few pointe dancers, since I see pointe shoes? but I don’t see any actual pointe (some demi pointe maybe but I don’t know enough about ballet to say for sure) and the choreography involves minimal leg movement. - Giry is pronounced “gear-y” here but I’ll give them a pass - this a really small stage, but every inch of it is used pretty well. Things only feel crowded when everyone is in the same spot. - Carlotta sounds AMAZING with orchestration to keep her in the right key - there’s a flat elephant brought in at the end
Think of Me (Carlotta): - Madame Firmin, who already existed in the ALW show, has been turned into her husband and is one half of “the couple who now own the Opera Populaire”. I’m loving the blind casting here - Carlotta’s Italian accent is not half bad considering it’s originating from somebody performing in a language that isn’t anything close to their native one - the crown used in Elissa’s costume looks more South Asian than the tiaras used in most productions, and I don’t know if it was an intentional cultural choice or if it was accidental, but either way I like the way it frames the actress’s face - the “backdrop collapse” is done really interestingly here - the backdrops are projected onto a screen, and so when the Phantom drops one, it just switches to the next slide on the screen with some shaking animation effects, flickering lights, and a thud sound. The cast reacts very well a la Star Trek, but it is frustrating because there’s not even the slightest indication that Carlotta was close to being hurt, which was her impetus for quitting before. She even continues singing for a while in the flickering lights. - Meg, whose voice is crystal clear, begins with “He’s there, the Phantom of the Opera!” and the rest of the cast joins in, and Andre cuts them off with his ‘insolence’ line - this is really slow, and kind of ponderous, and whenever this happens it’s my least favorite part of high school productions - “If you need me, I shall be in Frankfurt!” is delivered hilariously, with M. Lefevre dashing offstage after Carlotta and Piangi make their dramatic exit (punctuated with Carlotta throwing her scarf at the corps de ballet, which explains how Christine wound up with it) while Mme. Firmin and M. Andre just look on in horror at their situation. - Meg literally shoves Christine out of the corps de ballet while shouting “Christine Daae could sing it, sir!”. That’s such a lovely friend move, there, Meg. - This Christine really sells the “nervous, terrified at first” bit - I can hardly hear her singing until “far away and free” - Christine’s voice is very nice. Not the best high school voice I’ve heard (that still belongs to Asia Stewart) but it’s light and capable of singing the notes, even if it does go sharp now and again. For those of you keeping score, “August when the trees were green” shows up here. - the most distracting thing here is the scarf choreography, because instead of the typical scarf movements (which show up in the silent bits) Christine just keeps moving her arms back and forth like she’s pulling something toward her - A lovely Broadway cadenza turns up here - why is it that so many times it’s the cadenzas that are my favorite part of this?
Angel of Music/Little Lotte: - Immediately after the song, almost before the curtains close, Christine is mobbed by her fellow ballerinas. They’re in Degas-esque costumes, though modern (and glittery!) tutus dominate, with ribbons in their hair. It’s generally adorable. - I think the Phantom is singing through some kind of filter-adding microphone here, but he sounds pretty intimidating anyway - Meg’s voice is really nice. None of these high schoolers are, like, stellar? but none of them are horrible, and all of them sound like they know what they’re doing to some extent. - I think Christine’s actress is imitating Sierra Boggess, though, and I wish she’d explore her own stylings (but that’s just because I unconsciously imitate timbre and tone in other voices I hear singing and I want to help other people be more original than mine) - The orchestra is struggling more here than they were in Hannibal - Christine’s mirror is broken, with shards of glass sticking out around the inside of the frame. I’m left hoping it’s meant to be representational, with the glass being there diagetically? Because if not, Christine would definitely be able to see the creepy secret passage. - Raoul’s voice is the real weak spot here, which is really a shame. His chemistry with Christine, because he’s not acting that well either, does seem kind of lacking?
The Mirror: - Again, the Phantom is very intimidating here. Less vocally strong than Christine (in a lot of these shows, I find that the girls are more comfortable and more capable - is it because girls are more likely to take voice lessons, or because girls are more likely to have seen and memorized ALW’s music, or…?) - that being said, the Phantom’s voice is not bad. He can hit the notes and doesn’t get lost in the mix of the orchestra. His mask is also a sparkly silver (let it be known I typed ‘orange’ there first for some reason , and he emerges completely from the mirror to get to Christine. - Raoul finally gets into the dressing room after calling for Christine, and when he sees it’s empty, he turns to face the audience and says his ‘Angel’ line in a forlorn, sad voice as the lights dim and the curtains close. Now, when our more mellow organ playing begins, it feels almost funereal, and there’s a palpable sense of loss that is surprising and jarring because it’s so new.

★★★★★! (sorry im late)
weee here we go. I’ll give 5 facts about my two of my revealed OCs since there’s five stars.
1. Quintus was once an intern to a witch when he was 16-just-a-month-away-from-17. While mixing potions one day, he accidentally cursed himself so that he would always feel chilly, but only until his 18th birthday. He wears a scarf to counter it. It doesn’t really help much.
2. Martha’s magical powers comes from a hat named Wuthercoop. However, she needs to give up something valuable in exchange for the powers, so she gave up her “nice-ness”. As magical girl Egret she is a bluntly honest, unintentionally rude, but still holds to her strong sense of justice.
3. The character of Quintus started out as a self-insert. When I was happy, I wrote him as happy. When I was sad, I wrote him as sad. When I was longing for a time before that I could never go back to, I started writing the Kwintas Project. His mbti type is ISFP, sign is Leo, and favorite color is the most obnoxious shade of red you can think of.
4. Martha’s dull name is Martha Elissa Angeles. Her name was originally Sisa, but I changed it in honor of some of my favorite characters. (Marth is my main in Smash Bros, I adore Eliza in the musical Hamilton, and Angeles for best bird Anghel from Hatoful Boyfriend) Her mbti type is ESTJ, sign is Aeries, and favorite color is the greenish-blueish color of the sea.
5. Quintus and Martha have known each other for less than three years, but everyone says that it’s as if they’ve been best friends their entire life or perhaps in their past life.
