I’ve already done Kara and Nia, so…

Alex

  • How I feel about this character

Alex is my second favorite character in the show.  I love her.  She came out as a lesbian the same year I came out as bi and trans to my family, so seeing her journey there had a deep emotional resonance for me, and I love that she’s broken but still functional, still capable of loving and being loved in return.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Kara, Maggie, Kelly, Nia, and Sara

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

J’onn.  He’s a better father to her than Jeremiah ever was.

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think she’s better off with Kelly than she was with Maggie.  I think Dansen is a healthier and happier relationship.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Therapy.  Seriously, I want Kelly to drag Alex to a therapists office.

Kelly

  • How I feel about this character

I love Kelly.  I love how kind and gentle and caring she is.  I love that she’s a little broken, but she finds strength in helping other people.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Alex, Kara and Nia.

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

James.  I really liked their sibling dynamic, and it actually made me sad when Mechad left the show.

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think Kelly is a better partner for Alex than Maggie.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want an episode that gives us a lot more detail about Kelly’s fiance and her time in the military.

Lena

  • How I feel about this character

I know it will surprise a lot of people, but I don’t actually hate Lena.  I just hate the way she treats Kara.  I think she’s a deeply flawed person, and I hate the way fandom acts like her shit don’t stink.  I think Lena is a fucked up victim of abuse, who uses that as an excuse to treat those around her terribly, and avoid any culpability for her actions.  I think Lena would be an amazing character if the narrative would actually treat her like the shady motherfucker she is, and fandom would acknowledge that Lena brings a lot of the bad shit that happens to her onto herself by being a shady ass bitch.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Winn. Brainy, Andrea, Eve

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

Sam.  I loved their friendship.

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think she had romantic feelings for Kara, but they are entirely one sided, and that Kara is aware of them and they make her uncomfortable.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I’d like to see Lena lose her fortune and have to work a minimum wage job for a while.

Andrea

  • How I feel about this character

I like her.  I think she’s interesting, but I want more development.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Lena, William

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

I really want her and Kara to become friends.

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think she’s a deeper and more interesting character than Lena.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want her to join the Superfriends.

M’gann

  • How I feel about this character

I love M’gann, and wish she was a series regular

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Maggie, J’onn

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

Kara and Alex

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I sort of wish they had kept the parental relationship between J’onn and M’gann and M’gann had stepped into a kind of sister roll for Kara and Alex.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want a scene where M’gann shape shifts into J’onn’s human form.

Lillian Luthor

  • How I feel about this character

I think Lillian is a much more compelling character than either of her children, and I wish we got to see more of her.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Honestly, I don’t really have any ships for this character.

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

Kara.  I love it when Lillian and Kara interact.

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I would trade Lena for Lillian in a heartbeat.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Honestly, I kind of want her to be the one to kill Lex.

Eliza Danvers

  • How I feel about this character

I love Eliza

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

J’onn J’onzz, Cat Grant, Wonder Woman

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

Alex

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think Eliza is a really amazing mom.  Not perfect, but much, much better than fandom gives her credit for.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want her to adopt Nia and Kelly.

Winn

  • How I feel about this character

I miss Winn terribly and wish he could come back full time.

  • All the people I ship romantically with this character

Lena, James

  • My non-romantic OTP for this character

Kara and Cat

  • My unpopular opinion about this character

I think he got WAY more shit than he deserved in season one, and I don’t think he ever really fell into the whole “entitled nice guy” trope the way people claim.  When Kara rejected him he needed a bit of time to deal with it, but he did, and he moved on, and of all the people on the show, he treated Kara the best in season one, and I am including Alex in that.

  • One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want him to admit he’s bisexual, because that boy and his man crush on Clark…

Summary:

When Lena returned to the US to work on her brother’s company, the last thing she expected was to buy a wife. Because turns out, you can buy one for the prize of some million dollars.

Or
Lex Luthor is pure evil and Lena is on a mission to defeat him and save the wife she accidentally bought.
Don’t say “bought”, though. She doesn’t like that word.

I wanted to post this before the season finale, just because it may have a good finale that doesn’t make up for all the mistakes the show made along the way, especially the ones that could have been easily fixed with some proper storytelling that not only pleases the fans but better suits the story your trying to tell.

1. Kara and Nias friendship/ mentor ship. This season preferably 5B is somewhat focusing on Kara trying to catch Lex. Get proof on him that proves he is not what he seems to be. One of the ways she is doing this is through journalism. Instead of having Kara work with William she should have worked with Nia and here’s why. Not only does it make sense but it would improve the plot the only thing William has is a bad feeling about Lex and as good as that can be think of Nia who not only has the same feeling but knows he’s bad because she has her memories from Earth 38 while to back that up while on the other hand William does not. It’s a wild goose chase with him he doesn’t know what he’s looking for but Nia does. I mean just think that through who would make more sense for Kara to work with Someone who simply has a biased gut feeling that he’s bad because of what happened to his friend vs someone who has all of her memories and knows he is bad so she simply knows what to look for and can investigate what Lex changed comparing her new vs old memories. Its logistically makes more sense to use Nia. As important as diversity is and as much as the show should value its woman more above all that it just makes sense. When they first introduced Nia they implied they wanted them to have a similar relationship to Supercat this time reversed having Kara be the mentor which is great. It can show how much Kara has grown since season 1. Last season they started to do that but that’s been mainly dropped since 4B and its a real shame. They could have a similar type relationship if the show focused on them more but if they don’t then they won’t be able to because it won’t have the same amount dept. They’re showing vs telling but then again the show has been having a big problem with that lately with many characters/aspects of the show.

Also hes not even a good reporter/journalist Lex said he has been spoon feeding William all his info. It’s such a joke the show tried to amp him up as being such a good reporter yet he’s awful heck Winn could have done a better job at reporting.

2. Karas past/ trauma

Kara has been through so much this past season and it isn’t even finished yet. The fall out of her relationship with Lena. Lex rising to power once again and lastly LOSING HER ENTIRE PLANET AND FAMILY once again! The show really hasn’t discussed/ tackled Karas trauma/ past since s3 and even then it was only briefly and contained to one episode arcs vs in s1 when it was dispersed throughout the entire season. With everything that has happened this would have been a perfect season to do that and go back to its roots of S1 but in true Supergirl fashion they didn’t. So far has contained Kara only mentioning her past when it comes to Hope speeches which even those are rare now a days. Since crisis ended I think Kara has only mentioned it twice if at all and that’s when week of the villains forced her to (other Brainy bottling his earth). Kara has lost everyone once again in s1 it was Karas main mission to make sure that wouldn’t happen again she would save earth like she couldn’t save Krypton at whatever means necessary. Then in crisis she wasn’t able to do that and despite everything she did she wasn’t able to do so and lost everyone. Her sister her moms her friends everyone. She succeeded in getting everyone back but it shouldn’t be dismissed that she lost everyone yet it is. 5B should have heavily focused on this through the main of the week plotlines/ through her relationships with her friends and family. Like Melissa wants this finally should have been the season where Kara goes to therapy. Like I genuinely don’t get this show Kara lost everyone yet its barely mentioned Kara and Alex only share one scene discussing it and that was during the crossover in the legends episode it wasn’t even an episode of Supergirl that did it (big sigh) when another show does better things with your characters then you do that’s a problem. She lost her mom Eliza yet they have shared no scenes well none outside the funeral which had nothing to do with her and was another example of them not letting her grieve. Its so unrealistic that Kara wouldn’t have flown to Midvale the minute she was able to do to give Eliza the biggest hug it doesn’t matter if Eliza wouldn’t have her memories Kara would (the actress returned this season so she was clearly available to shoot more scenes yet didn’t because this is supergirl after all). Sidenote can they have Kara call Eliza mom more often like having her call her mom doesn’t make Alura her mom anyless she can have two moms because she actually does I know mind blowing. She lost her mom Alura twice yet they refuse to mention outside of a line or two that’s there more so to move along the plot. This has been a problem ever since they had her return in s3 but Kara has so many unresolved feelings and now she’s lost her twice and yet they still refuse so address it which is not only frustrating but sad for Kara as a character. She should be able to address these feelings about how she’s mad at her/ how she felt abandoned by her and still love her a the same time. Them showing Kara be mad at her doesn’t mean she loves her anyless and would be more healthy in the long run yet they won’t do it.

3. Lenas past, ptsd, and her mother.

They have been teasing for years whether not not Lena would turn truly evil but hinting at things over and over again and even though everything Lena has done proved the opposite it was still a lingering question. This was supposed to be the season that finally tackled this subject headon and show where Lena would land now knowing Kara/ Supergirl’s secret. I’m not upset Lena did questionable things going into this season I knew they would do so more then ever and from 5x01 that was adamant and I think it was very important to finally do for her character going forward to finally confirm that Lena was good/isn’t Lex. If they wanted to show and contrast how different Lena is from the Luthors there is so many others ways to do that, by just letting Lena be Lena is one of them. You’ve have been writing her that way for 4 YEARS, don’t change that by trying to make the show more interesting by adding “drama” you began to ruin it and an amazing character. That being said the way the show executed that was very poorly 5A was okay but 5B like it did with a lot of things was ultimately the down fall for this season. They’re first big mistake being Non-nocere. Now seeing 5x18 I get its overall idea and reason for being there but it still only should have been a side plot that was around for 4 to 5 episodes tops in the beginning of the season. It also really proves that it was never truly there for Lena it was a plotline made for Lex and to show just how manipulative he can be over which is so frustrating because once again they throw their main women characters to the side to help the men which are guest/minor. It was dragged on to long and stayed way past its prime to the point where it was unenjoyable even Katies amazing acting skills can only carry a bad plot line for so long. Non-nocere should have been there to help Lenas plot line not the other way around. It should have revolved around her story but not be her entire plot line for the season. I think them just going over Lenas trauma, abuse, neglect and abandonment issues would have been enough and a much more effective storyline then Non-nocere but if they wanted to use it then I think they should have atleast called back to Lenas past storylines. When Lena found about what Jack was doing with Biomax she was not only disgusted but terrified her feelings on that wouldn’t have changed so instead of it being nearly implied it should have been mentioned and it should have been one of the things that helped her realize how bad it was sooner. Her getting over the lo0se of Non-nocere and how she feels as though she failed once again would have been much better than the actual story of her using non-nocere itself. She was so afraid in season two that her feelings would get the best of her “I am very, very afraid of the person I might be”. This should have been explored way more and lastly instead of them only focusing on her mom for one episode for the plot (the medallion) it should have been a recurring storyline all season. Not only that she misses her but how her death affects her and how she puts her mom up on a pedestal because she never really knew her only what she remembers about her which isn’t a lot. The guilt she feels over her death etc. If they wanted to use it to move the plot forward they easily could have done that. There was a fan theory Lena’s mom was not only alive but behind Leviathan and that would have been so interesting. Here’s a woman she’s held up to such high standards all her life it would be interesting to see the effects of that. That maybe her mom wasn’t who she believed she was to be and that combined with Karas betrayal could have launched her going to the “dark side”. Also I love Katie and I love seeing more of her on my screen but they really couldn’t find another actress to play her mom or better yet not use a shitty wig. A wig isn’t gonna change anything we all know its Katie. It’s fine you used her many shows use there actors for multiple parts the wig was so unnecessary especially when it’s that bad (thank god Katie could pull off any look, ugly outfits and party city wigs included). Using her to play the mom wasn’t bad and would make a lot of sense as to why Lillian hates her so much she’s a spitting image of her mom. It doesn’t excuse the abuse Lena was a child but it makes sense. I mean she did say Lena looked so much like her etc. Then again shitty wigs are the least of their problems, fix your storylines above all else.

Bonus: You know your fan favorite couple is Lena and Kara and since this is supposed to be a season about their relationship just lean all in don’t tease and then not have them interact for 5 episodes in a row it’s frustrating.

This post is becoming a little too long so I may make a part 2 because I sure have a lot more to say.

Problem Solving with Science Mom and Daughter

A/N: Dr. Danvers is a well-respected bioengineer amongst her colleagues. But wait. Is this referring to Eliza or Alex? Or both?

image

Excerpt:

“I heard you work with Supergirl.”

Alex’s mind goes into overdrive. Her FBI cover has only recently been getting more public use, but even then she hasn’t exactly been open about it. Her eyes narrow as she considers her next course of action.

It’s only when her mom gives a subtle nod of approval that Alex cautiously says, “Yeah, sometimes.”

“What’s she like?”

A very typical question. This, Alex can handle.

“She is everything you’d expect her to be: inspirational, generous, kind.” As much as Alex enjoys gushing about her little sister, she can’t resist the opportunity to mess with her mom, so she adds, “She’s not perfect though. Sometimes she gets stuck up on her high horse, which is when she turns into an annoying little pain in the a—”

Her mom reacts as expected. “Alex!”

“What?” Alex asks innocently. “Why do you care what I say about Supergirl?”

She relishes the slightly trapped look on her mom’s face before Eliza says, “I raised you better than that. That’s why.”

Alex smirks, but she can’t spend too much time relishing in a win no one else is supposed to know about.

I can see it now.

Eliza:  “Alex, what have I said about plotting your step sister’s murder at the table.”

Alex:  “She started it!  Stupid mind control plot…”

Lena:  “I was trying to stop people from hurting each other the way Kara hurt me.”

Kara:  “Oh, for the love of Rao, leave me out of this.”

Nia:  *pats Kara on the shoulder*  “It’s okay babe.  This place has room service.  If they get into it again, we could have dinner in our room.”

Eliza:  “No one is eating in there room.”

Kelly (muttering):  “Well, there go my plans for the evening.”

Eliza:  “What was that, dear?”

Kelly:  “I was just telling Alex she can plan ways to dispose of Lena’s body once we got home tomorrow.”

Lillian:  “This is the most at home I’ve felt in years.  The only think missing is Lex attempting to poison me so he gets his inheritance.”

Alura still hasn’t fully gotten used to the powers she has on Earth. They still feel unreal, and half the time, she doesn’t even really remember she has them at all.

But when a dozen masked goons who clearly mean harm attack her brunch with Eliza, Alura is determined to use every single one of her powers to stop them.

She uses her freeze breath first, freezing three of the goons’ feet to the ground. Then she blows as hard as she can without ice, sending another two sprawling as the air current pushes them back. She’s sure to aim carefully with her heat vision, not wanting to kill anyone. It’s a bit tricky, but it’s worth it. She won’t cause any deaths today.

Her powers are almost fun to use, and she quickly grows caught up in them. She’s not paying as much attention to her attackers as she should, but she only realizes that when she turns around and sees one behind her, holding a crackling weapon that she thinks might hurt even her.

And then, something metal smashes into the back of his head, and the man falls.

“I thought you looked like you needed some help,” Eliza says, her eyes sparkling as she holds a dented metal tray. “Shall we take the rest of them down together?”

Alura smiles at Eliza, her heart pounding with adrenaline and perhaps something else she’ll need to examine later. “That sounds like a wonderful idea.”

“you know this can never last right?” maybe not the thing to say in the arms of your lover but lillian thinks it most nights. it twists into her like a dagger. she knows it’ll hurt more when the end comes.

“i know you believe that. i know your family warned you as much - even if they know nothing of me.” they hadn’t mentioned eliza by name, hadn’t said a thing beyond an allusion that they knew of lillian’s ‘college dalliances’ as they insisted on calling them.

they called them childish but said she could indulge for a few years. they said everyone had slip ups.

lillian didn’t think the butterflies in her stomach were a slip up.

“i can’t walk away.”

“you could.”

“i won’t.” she admits.

eliza sighs but makes no move from the warmth of her arms. “i know that too.”

“then why do you stay?”

“because i love you. because the pain i might feel doesn’t outweigh the joy you bring right now.”

“i don’t want to hurt you.”

“then why do you stay?” eliza asks. timid but quick. a question she’d sat on but never dared ask the answer for.

“because i love you. because i’ll yearn for you for the rest of my life but i don’t want the rest of my life to start now.”

“you don’t need their money, lillian. or their love.”

in the dark of night, lillian isn’t so afraid to say her greatest fear. “but what am i without it?”

“everything.” eliza says.

but it can’t be true. because lillian was holding everything in her arms. everything’s name was eliza slater and lillian would love her until her last breath - no matter how far their paths diverged.

“Well, you two certainly look like you have your hands full.”

Kara whirled around. “Thank Rao you’re here, Eliza. Can you take Kieran for a moment? I really need to pee.”

“You could just put him down,” Eliza suggested, even as she took Kieran into her arms. Kara scampered off to the bathroom as fast as she could, which was very fast for her.

“If we put him down, he starts to cry, and then he sets off Astra,” Lena explained.

“And the same in reverse?” Eliza asked.

Lena grinned sheepishly down at Astra, who was cradled in her own arms. “Unfortunately.”

“You’re spoiling them,” Eliza diagnosed. “I imagine it’s more difficult with twins, but you’ll just need to let them cry sometimes.”

“Do we have to?” Lena asked, her face falling. “Can’t we just hold them, if they like that?”

Eliza sighed. “Your children are going to be hopelessly spoiled.”

“Oh, we already knew that,” Kara said, returning from the bathroom. “I can take Kieran back now.”

Eliza passed Kieran back, and Kara cradled him against her chest. “Well,” Eliza sighed, “at least we’ll outnumber the babies while I’m here.”

The look of relief on Lena’s face would have been comical if not for the fact that Eliza was certain the twins were just as much trouble as they claimed. “Oh, thank God for that.”

okay but imagine young lillian, so much like lena than both of them ever first imagined.

finally away from under her family’s thumb at least for a semester and she meets eliza. eliza who is so quietly smart and loudly kind and softly pretty and who lillian tells herself she’s allowed in small doses - nothing too much, nothing too real - because anything more would kill her when she gave back into the inevitable. the inevitable being the son of her family’s business partners that she’d essentially been promised to when she was 3 years old. he was promised to her too. she’d always accepted it, always thought it would be fine enough.

she didn’t think that when eliza started prescribing her large doses of her charm, and attention, and tentative attempts at love. they’re both still young and new to the whole thing but it feels like a forever kind of feeling when they stay up late working on theories and when eliza starts holding her hand and when she kisses lillian for the first time - all lips and no hands, like she knows lillian has felt trapped all her life and she won’t be another cage, like she knows maybe she needs to run away for a little while but trusts she’ll come back.

and lillian does come back, keeps coming back. until she starts to not leave when she’s scared and talks it out instead.

three years, they’re happy. three years that lillian counts as the best in her life until she gets many more with her children.

and, from time to time, when she still looks eliza up wherever she can find a tidbit of information about her, it still feels like a forever kind of love. it still beats like an unexploded mine beneath the skin of her chest.

Eliza is heading to the kitchen for one last glass of water before she goes to bed when she notices someone on the porch. She’s not sure what Kara is doing out of bed so late, but she supposes she ought to ask.

“Sweetie? Are you okay?”

Kara whirls around, and Eliza sees that she’s been looking through the telescope at the stars. “Oh! Eliza, I didn’t notice you-”

“It’s alright,” Eliza assures her. “Are you okay?”

“I just couldn’t sleep,” Kara admits. Her gaze flickers up to the stars again, and Eliza thinks she has an idea of what’s going through Kara’s head right now.

“Do you want to sit with me for a while?” Eliza offers, because she thinks distracting Kara is probably the best way to help her with her homesickness, at least right now.

“That would be nice,” Kara says, a bit shyly. “But if you’re going to bed-”

“I’m not going to bed yet,” Eliza assures her. It’s not even really a lie, she thinks, because now that she’s seen Kara awake and upset, she’s definitely not going to bed until she helps her, no matter what her previous plans were. “Why don’t we go inside? It’s a little chilly out here.”

Kara follows Eliza into the living room, then curls up next to her on the couch. Eliza grabs a blanket and drapes it over them, and Kara snuggles up a little closer.

“Can you tell me a story?” she asks, toying with the fringe on the blanket.

“Any specific type of story you want?” Eliza asks.

“Anything’s fine.”

“Well,” Eliza says after a long moment, “how about I tell you the story of how Jeremiah and I first met?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard it,” Kara replies, looking up at Eliza.

“Then I should tell you,” Eliza replies.

The story isn’t that long, but Eliza drags it out as Kara droops more and more at her side. She only finishes it in a whisper once Kara is asleep against her shoulder.

“I love you,” she whispers, kissing the top of Kara’s head.

And Kara must not be quite as asleep as Eliza thought, because she smiles a little and mumbles back, “Love you too, Mom.”

Eliza likes that Kara has a girlfriend who’s an alien, because they have a shared experience in common.  She knows Alex and Kelly will always be there for Kara, but she knows how very much it means to have someone who can truly understand the things Kara has been through because of her heritage.

Also, Nia is Eliza’s sewing buddy.  They trade tips.  And Nia is the only one of the group that’s realized Eliza is aware that they are a foursome.  She hasn’t said anything because she enjoys watching Eliza yank Kelly, Alex and Kara’s chain.  And because she’s a brat.
