Game Night
Tumblr media
Manchester United got on the right food from the get-go, having brought in reinforcements, they were well covered on all lines. The Spanish links were strong, Y/N Y/L/N and Lucia Garcia had fun up front while Ona Batlle joined from time to time on the attack. For Halloween, Ella Toone decided that a good old Game Night was long overdue.
"9PM, my place" the Brit declared in the locker room. Her teammates looked confused, rightly so "Tooney, have you fallen on your head again?" Ona mocked her teammate. Lucia joined the conversation "Game night?" she asked "Like monopoly or PS4" she scrambled from her little English vocabulary making the players laugh. "Console" Toone replied within her laughter "But make it Halloween" she added requesting her guests to show up with costumes on "I have-" you started to form an excuse to not attend the evening but were interrupted by an excited On "Noooooo" she begged "Please come" she added receiving an empty look from you "PLEEEEASE" she pleaded further. "Fine-" you replied "Tooney send me the adress" you requested "I will run some errands but I should be there by 10" you added as you left the locker room. Alessia, your flatmate, and the person you usually rode to training with ran after you "Waaait" she said grabbing you by the shoulder "I'm getting a ride right?" she asked "Like usual" you laughed.
In the locker room, some of the players gossiped about your possible relationship "Those two seem to be hanging out often no?" Maya asked the group, getting some strange looks from some of them. "Yeah-" Lucia answered "They're uhh..." she thought "friends" the attacker added. Nikita, who was close with Russo joked "Yup, they're friends allright" clearly implying that there was something going on with the flatmates. Some of them kept gossiping, but when Toone saw how sad Ona got by the conversation, she sat beside the fullback.
"You ok?" she asked quietly so nobody would pick up on their chatter "Oh- I'm fine" Ona replied slightly startled "Thinking about what I'm going to dress up as" she lied. "Mhm" Toone mumbled "So that face has nothing to do with the gossip?" she asked, already knowing the answer "I'm pretty sure there is nothing going on between them" she added. Ona, shocked at how much her teammate knew, asked "How would you know?" getting a reply from a mere gesture.
Toone pointed at Earps "If they were a thing, she would know about it" she stated "Have you noticed how quiet she is right now?" the midfielder continued. Parris saw the two of them talking, and decided to join "I'm joking by the way" she whispered "I could help you shoot your shot ya know" the forward suggested getting an instant reply from Toone "Yup, tonight we will wingwoman you" she added, not taking no for an answer "Dress as a hot cop" Parris suggested "We will do the rest" grabbing Toone away so they could plot their game plan.
Most of the players made it to the game night, Y/N and Russo being the last ones to arrive. "We're here" you burst through the door that was left open "And we brought booze" Russo cheared setting a beer case down on Toone's counter.
Ona was sitting on the couch next to Parris, playing some shooter game, getting a nudge on the shoulder from the forward "Imma go", the defender grabbed onto Parris's arm like her life depended on it "Don't leave me alone" she pleaded, the forward winked "I'm just making room for the protagonist" she replied calling you over "It's your turn to keep the Spaniard occupied". The opportunity got you smiling "Gladly" you replied grabbing the controller away from the forward's hands. "So what are we playing?" you asked Ona getting right into the game.
Thankfully, Ona had a successful career and her livelihood didn't depend on her gaming skills "Oh you're bad" you mocked the fullbacks abilities, getting a slight punch on the shoulder as an answer "I'm glad you're not a boxer either" you mocked the Spaniard strength "You're mean" she complained, you decided to flirt "and you like it"
The both of you kept making fun of each other during the night as you helped Ona in the game, teaching her how to win and all. Something that would come in handy for the tournament the players would have later on.
Toone announced the start of said tournament, making the teams as she pleased "I wanted to be with Y/N" Ona complained "She's too good at the game" the midfielder replied "But I'll allow her to be your coach", clearly that was part of her wingwoman duties.
As the tournament went on, Ona stuck on you, getting as many instructions as possible, celebrating every kill with you. Ona's team got to the final, it was her and Le Tissier against Galton and Russo. "Roommate alliance" Alessia stated, hoping you would have mercy and abandon Ona's team "Nope, she got to the final" you replied "She is winning it now" you were confident in what you had taught Ona "Way to put pressure on the girl" Galton replied hoping she could intimidate the Spaniard. "Shut it" you laughed as the players got ready for the final match.
Le Tissier, who was on her last life, stuck around Ona, hoping she would get some instructions from you, but those were only for Ona "Go that way" you instructed the fullback, allowing her to sneak behind their opponents and shoot them dead. "One more" Ona celebrated as she killed yet another character making you facepalm as you saw what she had done.
Realising that she was now alone, in game, against Galton and Russo, "She's dead" the Spaniard stated "I'm alone" she looked at you hopeless. You could only laugh at how lost Ona was, not understanding what was happening "Yeah-" you replied "You killed her" you laughed your ass off. Ona wasn't so pleased at the situation "2v1? It's not fair" she complained, to which Russo replied "You have Y/N, that isn't fair either".
"You can still pull this off" you motivated your trainee, getting closer to her, you whispered "Hand me the controller in a bit". In-game, Ona got closer to Galton's and Russo's characters, sneakily, she handed you the controller. In a matter of seconds, the game was won. Placing the controller on Ona's hands before anyone realised the swap, the fullback celebrated with you, jumping around in Toone's living-room, hand in hand.
"How were we meant to beat the dream team" Russo complained to which you replied "Sucks to suck" mocking her as you celebrated with your favourite Spaniard yelling dream team as you jumped around.

Match Review: Manchester United Women 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur Women
In what was dubbed a dress rehearsal for the Women's FA Cup Final on May 12th, United and Spurs managed to share the spoils - for now - but there were positive signs for United if they can sharpen up on goal.
Tumblr media
Stats are a lovely tool to have, adding flavour to any match report and game analysis, and the stats - as shown below - point out two things: United were the side in control, and United should have won the game.
Tumblr media
United's backline were instantly put under pressure in the first 30 seconds but United woke up and got a good footing in the game. Ella Toone came accidentally close in the 9th minute, trying to find Leah Galton at back post, but it was Melvine Malard who opened the scoring with a beautiful header off a millimetre perfect free kick from deep by Gemma Evans; lofted with the utmost precision for Malard to nod over the approaching Spurs keeper Becky Spencer.
Tottenham countered quickly with Naz and Vinberg - a sign of things to come - but were held off, and as quickly as they hit United, United hit back. Pressure onto Neville saw Naalsund pick up a loose ball outside the box, quick pass to Malard, pivot, shot, and then in the scramble between Spencer, Parris and Nilden, a free kick was given against United.
Poor positioning cost United for the equaliser, with a deep Spurs cross cleared out only as far as Spence. A scuffed volley bobbled the ball through to Beth England for an easy tap home past an aghast Mary Earps, but it was Maya Le Tissier - fresh from her contract signing - that stood out of sync with the rest of the defence and failed to play the offside trap. Frustrating.
Tumblr media
United's second goal conceded was in similarly silly circumstances; Mary Earps screaming at Aoife Mannion to chase the loose ball, Mannion presuming Mearps has it, and Tottenham's Vinberg strolling in to play the ball into the box. Le Tissier covered well, with Mannion filling her void in CB momentarily, but wizardry from striker Jess Naz spun captain Katie Zelem and fizzed in a shot straight above Mary Earps' head. Poor from the keeper, poor from Zel, and poor from nearby Tooney who could have easily pressured Naz from that close range with a sprint to jostle. Maybe she was worried about giving away a penalty, but someone should have closed Naz down and forced her to choose the wider path towards a waiting Gemma Evans or to back off outside the box. A communication issue no doubt, given no Jayde Riviere or Hannah Blundell starting.
Blundell on for Mannion at half time made sense, and the second half saw more intensity and aggression from United; with far more crossing to pressure the Spurs defence in the air now that Blundell was on. 55th minute subs introduced both Lucia Garcia for Nikita Parris and Rach Williams for Melvine Malard, but the United couldn't quite find the net. Further subs in the 76th saw Miyazawa on for Toone and Geyse on for Galton, but it took a Gemma Evans corner in the 91st minute to find Rach Williams, the bar, bounce back out, and be crashed into by Maya Le Tissier to even the game up and give United a very much deserved point at Leigh Sports Village.
There will be frustration at United's failure to convert the oh-so-many chances in the second half, but the turnaround in United's style was a good sight to see, and on another day (say, the FA Cup final?) maybe several goals went in and this was a comfortable win rather than a consolation point. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- The disappointment doesn't end there though. Fans will also be concerned at the potential departure of United's tenacious Spaniard Lucia Garcia, whose contract is close to expiring and - based on Instagram - might not be renewed/extended.
Tumblr media
And how we will miss her humour, as well as that unquestionable hard work on the field, if she does leave us. Another huge mistake from Manchester United Football Club if so.
Tumblr media
Only three games remain in the WSL; Leicester away, Liverpool away, and Chelsea at Old Trafford - before which comes the FA Cup Final at Wembley. It's going to be a difficult few weeks, but the hottest fires produce the strongest steel...

Some OCs. Ella's grandparents and great grandparents.
Riccardo Avellano, 1st Baron Avellano. The Right Honorable Lord Avellano. He was Ella's great grandfather and the grandfather of Cecelia. He was an Avaloran hidalgo, or gentleman, and came from a long line of lower nobility. Though from lower nobility his family was highly respected. As a young man he fell on hard times and made a new start by sailing to the Magical Forest. He settled in Aurelianum (Eudora's kingdom) and made a living serving the crown as a knight. For his service he was given a Firefly Ruby (a medal of honor) and granted the barony title, Baron Avellano. The title was granted by Eudora's grandmother; the then Queen of Aurelianum. After becoming a baron, Riccardo married Josefina Flores the daughter of an Avaloran Duke.
Josefina Flores. The Right Honorable Lady Avellano. Lady Josefina was born in Avalor to a Duke. She was the younger sister of the Lord Marquess, Francisco Flores. She became a baroness after marrying Riccardo. The couple settled down in their manor home in Aurelianum. At some point they had a daughter whom they called Julia Avellano Flores. Back in Avalor, Francisco married a woman named Luisa. One of their daughters, Lucia Flores, married King Raul Castillo of Avalor.
Julia Avellano Flores, 2nd Baroness Avellano. The Right Honorable Baroness Avellano. She was the mother of Cecelia and the grandmother of Ella. She was an an accomplished musician and enjoyed painting in her spare time. Though her home was in Aurelianum, Julia spent many holidays and summers in Avalor and was immersed in the culture. She had a very close relationship with her cousins Margarita and Lucia. As an adult, she married Carlos Marchand. Her husband took her family name and it was passed on to their daughter. Julia died of illness when Cecelia was a teenager and left her title to her daughter.
Carlos Avellano Flores. Formerly Carlos Marchand, he was a wealthy cloth merchant from Aurelianum. Carlos grew up an orphan before starting his business. He gave himself the name Marchand to reflect his trade. He caught the eye of the Lady Avellano. After they married, Carlos took Julia's last name. He was titled Mr. Avellano Flores. Because when a baroness in her own right, like Julia, marries a man below her rank she keeps her title. And the husband doesn't become a Baron. Carlos lived to see Cecelia marry twice. He met his granddaughter and his two step-daughters. Carlos continued to be a successful merchant until passing his business down to his son-in-law, Marcus Tremaine. He retired and lived out the rest of his days doting on his granddaughters before passing away peacefully in his sleep.
