Phillip: I must say you talk a lot more than any other young lady I have ever known, but at least you speak to me. Marina never spoke to me, she barely ever looked at me actually. I believe she truly loved my brother and we looked very alike as brothers often do so I imagine that pained her. Sometimes I thought she intentionally avoided me, but you seek me out to speak to me. Even if that were the only difference between the sort of marriage I had and the marriage I would have with you, I know I would be happier with you, Miss Bridgerton. There is also the fact that you are the most beautiful woman I have ever met and I would very much like to kiss you—
Tumblr media
Eloise: Sorry to interrupt since you just said that I talk too much but I think you should shut up and kiss me now.
Tumblr media
Phillip: My word, you are a bossy little thing.
Tumblr media
Eloise: I said now.
Phillip: Yes, Dear.

16th of May 1824:
The Bridgerton brothers makes a short visit to Romney Hall to “defend Eloise’s honour.”
“Brothers. He should’ve considered that. It was maybe best to avoid courting a woman with brothers. Four of them to be precise. Four. It was a wonder he wasn’t dead already”

What is Phillips internal monolog in preparation for his first Bridgerton Family event?
I just imagine him trying to think of places he can hide or how to prevent the twins from burning the place down.
I think it might be something like this
“Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god.”
“Where’s Eloise??”
*sees Eloise*
“Eloise 😍🥰🥰🥰🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰”
*Daphne comes up to talk to him about Oliver and Amanda*
“Oh god what have they done now?????*
*Daphne says how much fun her kids are having with them*
“Yeah they really are great kids when you get right down to it, aren’t they? 🥰🥰🥰🥰”
*Bridgerton brothers approach*
“Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god.”
“They are being friendly and menacing at the same time??? How do they do that?? Can they teach me??”
*sees Eloise again*
“Eloise 🥰😍🥰😘😘🥰😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰😍🥰🥰”

How do Eloise and Phillip fit into the Bridgerton Brothers AU?
Phillip's a recording engineer who owns a studio and works exclusively with instrumental musicians like Sophie. Right from Sophie's first recording session the pair formed an instant bond and she faithfully collaborated with him for every one of her albums.
Though he had absolutely nothing to worry about, Benedict couldn't help feeling a little bit jealous every time Sophie returned from a recording session with Phillip and gushed over how switched on he was and just how perfectly he understood the sound she wanted to make. Even when Benedict tagged along to the sessions and saw just how enthusiastically Sophie and Phillip discussed the music and nothing more, he couldn't help the pinch of jealousy as he wondered if Phillip admired his wife on a deeper level beyond a professional working relationship. He didn't doubt Sophie's love for him but he just wasn't sure if he fully trusted Phillip to not try something.
While he kept his jealousy hidden from Sophie to avoid causing any issue unnecessarily, he did express his feelings to Eloise, hoping she could provide him with the assurances he needed to hear that he was simply being paranoid and merely envied Phillip's deeper understanding and technical insight into Sophie's music. Eloise told him as much, though she did offer to tag along to Sophie's next recording session to assess the situation herself and get an idea if Phillip did in fact harbour some feelings for Sophie beyond Benedict's green-eyed paranoia.
And so Eloise accompanied Sophie to the next session, though as soon as she shook hands with Phillip she completely forgot about her motivations of coming to the studio in the first place. Sophie smiled to herself as she saw how well the pair were already getting on, having always had an inkling that they might make for a great match. In fact they almost got on too well as after playing a song Sophie had to call out Phillip's name several times to get his attention for some feedback, only for Phillip to apologise profusely as he had forgotten to press record due to Eloise's presence distracting him completely.
"Well?" Benedict said immediately as soon as his sister had picked up his call.
"Well what?"
"What did you think?" he hissed. "Does he seem into Sophie?"
"Oh no, no, no, no, no." Eloise laughed off. "Not in the slightest, Ben, don't you worry."
"Are you sure?"
"One hundred percent; Phil's not into Sophie."
"Oh thank god." Benedict breathed a sigh of relief.
"But he is very much into me."
"Wait - what?!" Benedict spluttered.
"Quite literally, in fact." Eloise added with a cackle.
Benedict pulled his phone away to stare at it in utter bewilderment before he brought it back up to his ear.
"El, where exactly are you right now?"
"Laid up on the floor in the recording booth. Phil's gone to fetch us refreshments from the fridge."
"You slept with him?!" Benedict squawked in disbelief, flabbergasted by the turn of events that had led to his sister having sex with the very guy he had been worried might be into Sophie. "El, what the fuck?!"
"Have you ever done it in a recording booth before? Because if you haven't, you should. The acoustics are fucking next-level." Eloise recommended, not even remotely bothered by her brother's incredulity. "Anyway, I've got to go. I'll fill you in on Phil filling me in once we've resurfaced."
Benedict stared dismally at the wall as his little sister hung up on that crudely disgusting note and he lowered his phone with a sigh. Fortunately before he could dwell on the fact that he had been informed unprompted about his sister's sex-life, Sophie slipped into his lap and distracted him with kisses. At the very least the one silver lining he could take away from the unwanted information about Eloise's sexcapade was that since Phillip was into her, Benedict had no reason to worry about the man having any interest in Sophie.

About Theo and Eloise:
In my humble opinion:
Theo’s use as a character is to encourage Eloise to look past the surface of people. Of course he’s there to introduce her to romantic attraction, but in a very specific way, and it’s to start developing a sense of what she might like in a partner. Just because someone is perfect for you superficially does not mean they actually are, and for a character like Eloise patience and discernment are going to be very important for her storyline.
🛑 If you really really love Theo or Theloise and think they should be endgame, please stop now… 🛑
We got foreshadowing of this when Violet tries to hook Eloise up with that ton guy at the Hearts and Flowers ball. Violet picks him out for Eloise because she says he shares her rebelliousness. And that guy is rebellious and is looking for someone different, just like Violet says. But his personality is all wrong for Eloise and it crashes and burns pretty much immediately.
Theo is said to be “perfect” for Eloise. And on the surface, he might seem so. He’s a radical. He’s political. But those are his interests. Not his personality.
So let’s really look at his personality. Theo is one of the most condescending and patronizing people Eloise comes across. When he first meets her, he talks down to her, making assumptions of her based on her gender and class. Their initial banter is the stuff of meet cutes, which glosses over WHY they were bantering back and forth like that in the first place- he immediately underestimated her intelligence upon seeing her.
It’s debatable why she accepted it from him vs the other guy, but I think the biggest issue is that unlike the guy Eloise danced with at the ball, Eloise has a reason to keep talking to him despite him showing the same attitude that left her running from the ballroom floor. She needed him for something, so it was worth continuing to engage, and engaging with him for longer allows her crush to grow.
Eloise is going to be a character who needs time to really fall in love. And so she is going to need to develop the capacity for more patience for other people than her character currently has. She’s often impulsive and makes snap decisions, but Theo forces her out of that by being a character she has to work with. Which is a great thing! Through Theo, Eloise gets to explore more of her interests, which is not nothing! Credit where credit is due, she’s obviously going to want that in a partner, and I would hope any relationship they write for her would have that as an element to it. It’s valuable for her to learn that that’s possible as she starts to develop her sense of taste in men.
But he’s also not the ONE yet, which is also valuable for her.
When Eloise doesn’t kiss Theo he blows up at her. He lashes out and accuses her of being just like every other lady. Going back to the foreshadowing from the Hearts and Flowers ball, there’s some irony here- there, Eloise gets offended because the man implies that she’s Not Like Other Girls. Here, that is used against her. Theo thinks Eloise should act a certain way because she’s rebellious, but when he dismisses her as a prude, he once again reveals the superficiality of his politics when it comes to praxis.
At the time I watched S2, I hadn’t yet read the books, but I’ve read them since, and this is very similar to a scene from TSPWL, where Eloise is trying to discuss something serious with Phillip, who is trying to kiss her instead. We don’t know yet whether that scene will make it to the show or not, since show Phillip seems to have a somewhat different storyline from the books, but it was a deliberate choice to use that as a reason for Theo to lash out at Eloise in the show, and I think it’s actually about Eloise’s growth. In the similar scene in the book, she calls Phillip out for this behavior while in the show Eloise just cries. Somewhere between age 18 and 28, she won’t take it, even from men she likes, which is, frankly pretty realistic. Even the most radical feminists sometimes take BS from the “radical” first boyfriends they date as teenagers. Eloise has a realistic mix of strength and vulnerability, and Theo hit a vulnerable spot for her. She’s a feminist, but she has very little real world experience with relationships between men and women outside of her brothers, and Theo is a valuable storyline to create that experience, so that when she is ready (hopefully 10 years on, I’m team time jump Eloise), she’ll have the combination of patience and discernment necessary to find and keep the right person for her.
When it comes to Sir Phillip specifically, Eloise is interested in his words first. They write letters back and forth, they never meet in person before Phillip proposes, so we know physical attraction has nothing to do with it. When she runs off to meet him she’s partially there to assess his personality. See how he actually acts. And he’s not perfect. But even as flawed characters they ultimately compliment rather than clash. In the books we know she had been courted before and turns down multiple proposals, so she had enough experiences with men to know where she stands. Eloise was never going to settle for the first man who liked her, or even the first man she thought she might like, and in fact, so many happily married women have that story of “wow, if I had married the guy I was with at 18 it would be a disaster.” Eloise is getting that with Theo.
Because imagine Theo and Eloise long term. Imagine their verbal sparring when they’re fully on Theo’s turf, with Eloise as his wife. His condescension would get old so fast with Theo always having the upper hand. Eloise likes the buzz and mental stimulation of their banter, but ultimately she’s a woman who likes to be right, and likes to feel like she’s being heard and respected. Theo likes the novelty of a woman like Eloise, but prefers when he’s in the teachable position- giving her books to read, taking her to rallies, etc- and not when her needs don’t line up with his desires.
I won’t claim to know how they’re going to do Phillip in the show for Eloise’s season, other than what we all know the changes they’ve already made to his backstory with Marina and the twins. But I do think counting him out already by claiming Theo is “perfect” for Eloise is a pretty shallow read on what’s been seen and what’s still possible for her.

listen, i love eloise, but can someone please explain to me why they like philoise and their book. I'm genuinely curious and not trying to judge, I just literally have never seen someone explain why they love philoise and I want to be educated.
i gave her book 1 star because of the abuse stuff and it completely lacked plot. but i genuinely would love to hear other perspectives on it. i feel like im missing something.
pls understand i am just curious, not trying to judge at all.

Dear Eloise Bridgerton,
Tumblr media
Let's lay off Penelope and Colin for a second and talk about how hard this show is going to have to work to get me to believe that Eloise is not a lesbian.
Eloise is so gay.
How gay is she?
She fell for Theo, aka herself with a lesbian haircut. It was very uncomfortable. It was like watching twins kiss, even though they never actually locked lips.
They are going to have to convince me that her hunt for Lady Whistledow is not just so she can munch her box. The only reason she's upset Whistledown was Pen is because now the object of her fantasies is a person she already knows and loves. If Whistledown was a stranger, she could avoid the Sapphic feelings. Instead, she's right there, across the street, calling to her. They are two girls they can be alone in a room together with no one the wiser.
Benedict is bisexual. Him falling for a woman I can see.

Domestic Philloise Drabble
Eloise walked through the front door, chucking her keys onto the side table and purposefully ignoring the sound of them completely missing and falling to the floor instead (after all, that would be an inconvenience for her future self to grumble about).
“Phil?” she called out.
She carried on through the house until she reached the kitchen, partly expecting to find him making breakfast. However the kitchen was vacant.
“Phil?” she called again, projecting her voice a little louder for him to hear her from upstairs.
She then made her way up the stairs on her mission to track him down to the second place she’d expect to find him at this time of day. Typically Phillip would take the twins to school, seeing as he’d be up at the crack of dawn pottering about in his greenhouse anyway. However due to their recently disrupted sleep patterns, they alternated on who took Oliver and Amanda to school, depending on who was least lacking in sleep. It meant whenever Eloise came back from the school run she’d expect to find her husband in the kitchen or still slumbering in their bed.
“Phil?” she called out in a softer tone as she poked her head around the door to their bedroom - but instead of finding Phillip gently snoring into the pillow, she found a freshly made bed, with the curtains drawn to allow their room to bask in the summer sun.
She would have gone to check the remaining uninvestigated rooms of their home but she knew if he was around he would have responded to her calls. Therefore she presumed he must be out for a walk. Most likely to the local shop to pick up some milk or whatever basic necessities they had run out of.
For a beat she hovered on the spot, wondering what to do with herself, though her eyes fixated on the soft inviting bed, tempting her to hurl herself down on it for a quick snooze. Sure she had chores to catch up on... but that would be a problem for her future self to deal with (on top of the fallen keys in the hallway).
Eloise sprung onto the bed like a cat and immediately flopped down, sprawling herself across the bedspread. It wouldn’t be a proper nap, not with the sun shining down on her. She wasn’t good at falling into a deep sleep with any form of light source around her. All she was going to do was rest her eyelids and savour the feeling of the sunbeam’s warm embrace...
But then she heard the sound of Phillip’s gentle murmur. One of her eyes pinged open as she scanned the room but he wasn’t there. She heard him again and this time she sat up, realising the softness and unintelligible volume of his voice was due to the fact he wasn’t anywhere nearby. Listening out again she clocked the direction in which he was speaking from - outside in the garden.
Scrambling to her feet she peered out of the bedroom window and finally caught sight of her husband; and the sight she was met with immediately piqued her curiosity.
Out in the garden Phillip was just within sight as he stood underneath a tree, and next to him was the pram. Eloise leaned on her forearms and almost ended up pressing her face against the window as she watched her husband in fascination.
Phillip was looking down into the pram and then peering up at the tree hanging over them, and Eloise could see that he was providing a running commentary to the pram’s occupant. He then reached up, grabbing a low-hanging branch with his hand, and very gently waved and moved it through the air before his eyes then returned to their infant daughter.
Within the blink of an eye Eloise had sped out of the bedroom, zoomed down the stairs, and out the backdoor. She only slowed down once she began to approach Phillip, who had yet to even notice his wife was approaching from just how enamoured he was with their baby and shaking the branch for her entertainment.
Even when she was practically right by his side he failed to notice her right away but the second he did and caught her eye the waving of the branch stopped.
“Hi.” he greeted her.
“Hello.” she smiled back. She then glanced to the branch still clutched in his hand before she posed him with a question. “Care to explain what’s going on here?”
Phillip bashfully fiddled with the twig-like end of the branch, momentarily feeling self-conscious about his actions. Eloise then reached out and plucked a leaf from the branch he was holding, twiddling the stem between her finger tips before playfully booping him on the nose with it. Instantly Phillip relaxed before nodding towards the pram.
“At two months she can start seeing colour.” he explained. “Red and green mainly. I just wondered if she’d be able to see the green of the trees yet.”
Though Phillip was clearly trying to shrug the whole thing off like it was no big deal, his very sweet and simple explanation made Eloise’s heart swell with so much love and admiration for him that she almost felt short of breath.
“And?” she managed to utter after a delayed reaction on her part.
“And?” he echoed uncertainly.
“Do you think she can see it? The green of the leaves?” Eloise asked eagerly.
A soft smile pulled on Phillip’s face and he indicated for his wife to peek into the pram and while she did, he then gently began to wave the branch, rustling the leaves above them. When Eloise looked into the pram, her infant daughter was gazing up in awe, her lips parted in fascinated wonder at the movement of nature going on above her, her big bright eyes fixated on nothing else but the greenery.
“Oh my god.”
“What?” Phillip responded to his wife’s gasp.
“She can see it. She can see the green.” Eloise stated, her face lit up with joy.
“I mean, we can’t know for certain -”
“But as her mother I know she can!” Eloise insisted excitedly. “Do I have any proof? No. Can I read her developing mind? Of course not. But I just know.”
Phillip then craned his neck to look into the pram and saw just how captivated baby Penelope was with the green canopy above her.
“Can’t you see?” Eloise beamed and grabbed a hold of Phillip’s arm. “She’s seeing the green and the leaves and she’s transcending! Her little mind’s transcending and it’s all because of you, Phil!”
Phillip’s face turned pink from the unexpected praise his wife was heaping on him. “El, all I’m doing is shaking a branch.” he noted and gave the aforementioned branch a shake for good measure.
“And? You’re still broadening the horizons of her mind! Her brain’s growing as she’s learning; and that’s all because of you!”
Before he could laugh off her sentiment, he was caught off guard by Eloise cupping his face and pressing a jubilant kiss to his lips. In spite of feeling that his wife was lavishing him with unnecessary praise, Phillip simply decided to accept Eloise singing his praises as her earnest admiration for him squeezed at his heart and reminded him just how fortunate he was to have her in his life.
The kiss was then interrupted by a little squeak, which brought both of their attentions to the pram where Penelope lay. She threw her arms about, flailing them as she looked back up at her parents expectantly and squeaked at them. Without hesitation, Phillip sensed what his daughter was after and gently shook the branch again; and within an instant Penelope relaxed, her eyes wide with awe once more as she gazed up at the leaves moving above her.
With a fond smile on her face, Eloise watched their daughter experience the world unfolding around her as she cuddled into Phillip’s side, forever grateful to have the best father possible for her children.
