end state situations for the multiwarden worldstate:
idunn: made warden-commander and spends time in amaranthine, before stepping down to focus on her own stuff in orzammar. later marries leliana and kind of 'vanishes' (aka dont fucking @ her she's busy) in her mission to prevent the calling.
cinna: alistair's boytoy consort and court mage to ferelden. honestly pretty chill with the political arrangement made between alistair and anora, and becomes good friends with anora too. his influence helps make things a lot better for mages in ferelden. becomes an agent of the inquisition after they recruit the mages.
embrium: literally just fucks off with zevran to go cause chaos and kill some crows. they consider themself 'done' with warden business, but stay in contact with idunn esp in case she learns how to stop the calling. meets ethan hawke in kirkwall along with zevran, and later both they and zevran are recruited as agents of the inquisition.
felraaven: leaves to reuinite with his clan and to potentially maintain an alliance between the dalish and the wardens. is with merrill in kirkwall and helps to repair the eluvian. stays with the sabrae clan and maintains contact with merrill. joins her when she is later recruited into the inquisition to advise on the eluvian. unfortunately, gets involved romantically with solas. f.
couscous: the other parent to kieran, she is the one that does the dark ritual (i maintain the concept that it's not actually a truly 'sexual' act but more involves blood magic and shit, resulting in pregnancy. still, she and morrigan are romantically involved anyways). rebuilds highever with her brother fergus, until she takes over as warden-commander when idunn steps down. later vanishes with morrigan through the eluvian after tracking her down with idunn, and then is with her and kieran in the inquisition.

"The Herald of Andraste"
So, have I told you how much I love the Dragon Age series, especially Dragon Age Inquisition? I adore it dearly...to me, it is one of the best games ever made (besides Skyrim and Witcher 3). The details & environments are gorgeous; I could run around forever just admiring the different sceneries/climates. Also, the interactions in the DA games are just the best, and I love how you can create relationships. I recently beat DAI for the 2nd time a couple of weeks ago. I'm always sad when I finish a game, especially one I thoroughly enjoyed. Do you feel that way, too?
My OC for DAI was the female human warrior, from House Trevelyan. I named her Bryony. I always try to make the characters look similar to myself, but I've got such odd features that I can never create a character that looks like *ME*. Of course I had to make Bryony go for Cullen. Cullen is so dreamy. He's hot for a video game character. ;-D I did make Bryony go for Dorian until it was discovered Dorian was gay! (So tempting to create a male character to get the relationship with Dorian. :3 ) But I adored the relationship between Bryony & Cullen. The 2nd time I played the game, I actually had all the DLCs, which are amazing additions to the game and overall storyline. I was stoked when Byrony got to marry Cullen. Made my fangirl self feel tickled to death.
The armour Bryony is wearing is a "heavy armor" schematic I crafted using Stormheart. Stormheart makes for pretty armour with the iridescent blue-pink-purple colours. The sword was a "Strong Brutal Claymore" schematic I used, also with Stormheart, equipped with the "Superb Corrupting Rune". I couldn't figure out how to make that effect as I drew it (it looked more like flames than the actual effect), so I actually "cheated" by using a smoke brush in Photoshop Elements to add to the sword. I drew this entire fan art before I equipped Bryony with that badass "Armour of the Dragon Hunter" (obtained from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC) and the Sulevin Blade.
Every other Monday [starting from today], I will be posting this specific kind of DAI fan art until I finish all 10 playable characters, which means it will be a countdown until Dragon Age Day (December 4th)!
Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mix of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. White accents were done with a gel pen. The Inquisiton symbol, stars, dots, & blooms on the trees were done with a gold Golden Paint acrylics, but the scanner killed the gold and it looks "flat" (in real life, the drawing looks awesome with the super metallic gold). Font done in Photoshop Elements.

“You forgot this,” Hawke says, appearing at her door without any preamble to set a sack of fish and bread in Merrill’s hands. Out of armor, she doesn’t always recognize them; she only knew them at the market because Bethany was there, and their big ear-waggling dog. But it is them, tired and grimy from their job on the docks. Carrying her fish. “…Your seeds are growing.”
Yes, and she’s terribly glad for it— she’s never planted anything in a city before. Kirkwall dirt is hard and dry and the water is often bitter, and any magic makes her neighbors nervous. But still, in a little row at Hawke’s feet: six seedlings climbing toward the sun.
“To be perfectly honest, I don’t know what I’ve done right,” Merrill says. “They’re all still green. And growing!”
Hawke gives her one of their too-direct stares, grim as storms. “Because you’re taking care of them.”
…Put like that, it’s quite straightforward. All the same Merrill finds herself wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Not only that the embrium is being cared for, but that she’s the one who’s taking care. They haven’t… that nothing’s gone wrong, just because it was her.
It’s been hard. These months have been hard. She’s never been good with people the way— others were, and the last wretched year with her clan drained away anything that was left. And there’s much about her new home she doesn’t understand, and where does one begin to ask some of it. Without rambling, anyway.
But she hasn’t gotten all of it wrong. Look at the seeds Hawke brought her, already taken to the alienage earth. Sylaise rooted them there.
Come summer they’ll be a garden.

basically the route duncan takes in my multi warden worldstate. idunn brosca is the first person he recruits, having stayed in orzammar after meeting up with a messenger on the orlesian border to send word about the coming blight.
they cross lake calenhad to the circle tower with the intention of recruiting a mage. as the wardens in ferelden currently don't have one, duncan thinks it's important that they try to get a mage warden. cinna is recruited- or rather, conscripted, following his involvement with jowan.
thet then travel to highever to rest for a short time before they plann to make the trip south to ostagar- however (heh) the howe plot happens, and they recruit as of yet unnamed cousland after saving her.
a short stop is made in denerim to attempt to report what happened in highever, where idunn hears about what's going on in the alienage, pokes her nose in, and convinces duncan to recruit embrium tabris to protect them.
and finally, while they're camping in the brecilian forest, duncan senses something weird in the ruins, and encounters felraaven mahariel and the mirror. he is recruited shortly after to save his life.
initially, duncan only really intended to have the first two as wardens- idunn and cinna- but circumstances drop recruits into his lap, and duncan isn't about to let perfectly good potential wardens go to waste then there's a blight coming.

Sanctuary
— (Caerwyn & Te’lise)
.
TW// brief descriptions of treating wounds.
.
It was a quiet afternoon in Skyhold’s Apothecary.
The room was alight with the sun’s glow, turning the specks of dust floating past the windows into glittering gold. Te’lise might have admired it, as she admired all simple beauties in the world, had her attention not been so entirely focused on the comatose man currently lying in her bed.
His arrival the night before had been frightening and unexpected, heralded by a pounding at the door that had Te’lise lurching out of bed before her brain had even fully awakened. Bewildered, she had allowed a somber procession of ten Inquisition soldiers to come streaming in, at the front of which her patient was swaddled in a blanket and being gently carried. It hadn’t taken her long to snap out of her daze and into her Healer’s mindset, and she had ordered him to be set down on the heavy oak table in the middle of the room.
What followed was a long, exhausting, stressful night of trying to keep her patient alive. His right hand had recently been amputated after a battle wound had infected it beyond saving, according to one of his comrades, who had been filling her in as she rushed to and fro gathering armfuls of medicinal herbs and supplies. It seemed that the infection had now made a nasty reappearance, throwing his body into a state of sepsis. One of his comrades had found him lying unconscious outside of his tent, and they had immediately rushed him to her.
His name was Captain Caerwyn of Regiment Six, according to his worried companions. If he has a surname, they had no knowledge of it. According to them, he was a fine leader and an even finer gentleman, as well as their friend. It had taken much soothing on her part to convince them to leave her to work. It was clear that they cared a great deal for him, providing only further incentive for her to succeed.
Te’lise had spent the next four hours stabilizing Caerwyn’s condition. She had rubbed Royal Elfroot essence into the skin above his lymph nodes to reduce inflammation, applied cooling compresses to his forehead, neck, and torso, and placed a bowl of steaming water infused with Embrium extract nearby to clear his airways. Simultaneously, she had worked tirelessly at undressing his bandages, painstakingly cleaning out the infected mess that was his amputated arm, removing the necrotic flesh, sewing up the exposed tissue, and finally lathering the angry red skin with a soothing Elfroot salve. By the time one of the soldiers had managed to return with one of the free mages assigned to the Healing Ward, Te’lise had Caerwyn’s wounds cleaned and wrapped with fresh bandages. The mage was able to remove the infection in his blood after that, and he was successfully brought back from the brink of death.
Te’lise had proceeded to stay up at his bedside for the rest of the night and long into the morning, doing everything in her power to bring down his raging fever.
Presently, Te’lise sighed tiredly as she poured a fresh pitcher of water into the wooden bowl she had been using to wet cloths for his burning skin. Her eyes ached, her hands were shaking, and she had a headache that profoundly soured any bright mood she might have had on such a beautiful afternoon.
“Sylaise, preserve me,” she whispered into the silence of the room. “Falon’Din, have mercy. Let me save this man.”
A faint rustling came from the bed. Following it was a hoarsely whispered, “Is this the Beyond?”
Startled, Te’lise nearly upset the full bowl in front of her. She whirled and stopped short as her eyes met those of the wounded man in her bed.
“Oh!” She gasped, clapping a hand over her mouth.
The Captain blinked at her wearily, then slid his gaze around the Apothecary, taking in its cluttered interior with a hazy awareness. “Where…”
The sound of his voice snapped her out of her shock. “Hush, Serah, you must save your strength.” She hurried across the room to the tall shelf housing rows upon rows of vials of varying shapes and sizes, and selected one that she knew contained a healing tonic. “How are you feeling? Still feverish? Wait – do not answer that. Oh dear, you still seem so flushed… a cooling tonic too, then, perhaps…”
Te’lise shuffled over to the bed with an armful of vials and carefully placed them on the wooden stool beside the bed. When she glanced up, Caerwyn was watching her with the most peculiar expression. She felt herself flush, and offered a sheepish smile.
“Where am I?” He whispered hoarsely, observing as she worked at removing the stoppers of the vials.
“Well, certainly not in the Beyond,” Te’lise said warmly. “You are in Skyhold’s Apothecary. Your companions brought you in last night, when you were in critical condition.”
“Am I to presume… that you healed me?”
“I helped in healing you,” she acknowledged, raising the vial to his lips, “But I cannot solely claim credit for your recovery.”
“And yet you are the one who remains. For that, I am grateful.” He whispered, accepting the few mouthfuls of potion. Te’lise started at his words, and watched in surprise as the skin around his eyes crinkled in a faint imitation of a smile.
She took the vial from him and set it aside, searching his face. “How do you feel, Captain Caerwyn? Is the pain troubling you?”
“What I feel now is a blessing compared to the agony I endured before,” he assured her. “It is only—“
Caerwyn lifted his right arm and stopped abruptly, his face whitening. Te’lise followed his gaze to his amputated limb.
“Your hand had to be removed in order to stave off mortal infection,” she reminded him gently. “According to the Surgeon, it was the only way to save your life at the time.”
“I had forgotten.” He said.
There was terrible bleakness in his voice that squeezed at her heart. Without thinking, Te’lise reached out and gently placed a hand upon his shoulder. He stared down at it, then up at her with the expression of a man who was lost, and did not know how to find his way.
“What troubles you, Serah?” She asked him gently. Te’lise knew what troubled him, of course – she only wanted him to say the words.
Caerwyn exhaled, bitterly tossing his head back against the pillows. “What doesn’t? I am a soldier, a Captain in the Inquisition. I am to rally forces and lead warriors into battle under the Inquisitor’s banner. How am I to do this now that I am – I am –” He grimaced and turned his face away, but not before Te’lise caught a glimpse of the silver lining his dark lashes.
Te’lise watched him quietly for a moment, allowing him the time to compose himself. He was a strong, handsome man, she observed, and there was a gentleness in his face and demeanour that contrasted fascinatingly with his warrior’s physique.
‘What an interesting, beautiful person,’ she thought to herself, and began to speak.
“Did you know that I live with a chronic illness?” She said, and smiled when he looked over at her with a muted flash of surprise. “Indeed. It is a bit ironic, no? A sick Healer? I am also a mage, though most are never able to guess. This is because the illness that I live with prevents me from using magic extensively, for that would require more stamina and endurance than I physically possess. To do so harms me more than it helps.”
“But… is there not magic to…?” He asked tentatively.
“Perhaps there is,” Te’lise acknowledged. “But I have not encountered it in my lifetime. Perhaps I never will. Until recently, I had spent so long dreaming of a day when I could be cured. When I could be ‘whole’. That is how you feel now, isn’t it? You think yourself to be incomplete, because when mere days ago you had two hands, now you have only the one.”
“Yes,” Caerwyn whispered. “I cannot help it.”
“You are not incomplete because you are one-handed, Caerwyn,” Te’lise told him softly. “Just as I am not incomplete because I am ill. Someone wise once told me, ‘A tree does not derive its strength from its branches, but from its roots.’” She squeezed his shoulder gently, and whispered, “And now, just as a man does not derive his strength from his hands, but from his heart.”
She smiled at him as his eyes widened, patting the coverlet with her hand. “Your life will be a little different now, but it is far from over. Should you find the will to do it, you can ensure that your life is as rich and full as any other man’s, even one-handed. You are still capable of love, laughter, and thought. The sun is still shining, and the tall grasses still dancing in the wind. Shall we not enjoy these precious things while we can, instead of lamenting over what might have been?”
“You are wise, Healer,” he finally breathed, his jewelled eyes dancing across her face. “When but mere moments ago I was troubled, I now feel soothed. Can you heal with your words as well as your hands?”
Te’lise tipped her head back and laughed. “I used no magic here, Captain, only sound advice bestowed upon me by another.”
“Such modesty,” he said softly, and there was a tender, inquisitive note in his voice that made her face feel oddly warm. “Moments ago, you called me by my given name. ‘Caerwyn.’”
Te’lise blanched. “Ir abelas… that was entirely improper of me–“
“I took no offence to it, Healer,” he assured her, his eyes crinkling in a smile. “I only wanted to know your name in return.”
Te’lise lowered her gaze to the flowery coverlet, brushing a freckled hand over its surface. “My name is Te’lise,” she said softly. “Once, Te’lise Lavellan.”
“Te’lise,” he whispered, and suddenly her vision was filled by leaves dancing in the wind, and the sun’s glow as it bathed the sloping valleys of Alhan’amelan in golden light, the echoes of long-faded laughter caressing her face and falling away.
“I owe you my life,” Caerwyn said now, his eyes searching her face. “And now, I find myself thinking that I could not find a finer soul to owe my thanks to.”
Te’lise flushed and withdrew her hand, suddenly finding it difficult to meet his gaze. “You are very generous in your praise, Serah.”
Caerwyn cleared his throat. “I apologize. Normally I am not this… ah. Well. ‘Generous in my praise,’ as you put it.”
“Perhaps the medicine has loosened your tongue,” Te’lise said cheekily, and the two of them exchanged tentative smiles.
The months since Solas had left her shattered and bare in Crestwood had all but destroyed her, and her heart was only beginning to mend. But as Te’lise sat at her own bedside now, watching over the wounded man with gentle, jewelled eyes, she felt a knot in her heart hesitantly loosen, and a tender leaf on a barren branch began to unfurl.
In that moment, the world no longer felt as unbearable, and the realization made her smile.
.
New oc :) 👀 the piece features Caerwyn’s pet wolves in the background, Alifalon and Alhannon. I hope to draw more of them soon!

Tagged by @henbased (hi Jack thanks Jack)
Tagging: man it's been a while since I did one of these I forgot everybody's urls um @evenom @waterbearable @houseaeducan @lavellander and You, Who Are Reading This, Who I Forgot (sorry).
Under the cut:
Name: Adrian Hawke
Nickname: Addy (<- family members and partners only, and even then we're on thin ice) Red (<- if you're Varric)
Gender: just some guy 👍
Star sign: N/A due to the in-universe calendar. He's a spring baby tho.
Height: like, 5'6, max
Orientation: Straightish. Girls mostly. Kinsey 2. He'll use the phrase "heteroflexible" if his siblings aren't around to give him shit about it.
Nationality/Ethnicity: Ferelden. Freaking it sensitive style at the Hanged Man on a Thursday night and all the barflies shout Go Whiteboy Go.
Fave fruit: Apples.
Fave season: winter (not clickbait. He loves being cold.)
Fave flower: embrium.
Fave scent: whatever Merrill happens to smell like on any given day.
Coffee, tea, or HC: coffee
Average hours of sleep: 4-6. Usually 4. 6 if he's lucky.
Dog or cat person: ehhhhh no real preference. He does prefer that either one be someone else's pet though.
Dream trip: Merrill is there. Isabela can come also if she wants. They are anywhere but Kirkwall. No one there recognizes him or knows who he is. That would be really cool.
Favorite fictional character: he's really more of a non-fiction guy. Uh, except Hard In Hightown! which he definitely read. And enjoyed. His favorite character was, the guy. The main one. He definitely read the book and isn't lying because that would hurt Varric's feelings sooooo bad. Anyways.
Number of blankets they sleep with: at least 2. Ideally more
Random fact: enjoys and is actually pretty good at learning languages. Can speak & read Elvhen, hold a conversation in Orlesian, and his Tevene is. Fine.

Game Assets Notes
These are plants shown in Dragon Age but aren't named in universe, just in their model files or through identification of the textures. Since most filler plant textures are just that of real world plants.
**NOTE:** When I mention they are not the known name of any plant, this comes with the caveat of being popular common names. Common names are highly variable and inconsistent. They depend on regional knowledge and association. Some travel farther than others. Common names are also not reliable identifiers.
Acacia: Black Wood ~ Note: Black Wood is a type of acacia. Both acacia and black wood are named assets.
Artichoke ~ Note: Identification comes from asset name, the artichoke flower is used as ornamentation of a box.
Banyan Tree
Boxwood ~ A type of shrub, identification comes from asset name.
Bradford Pear ~ Their fruits are edible, however their flowers are known to emit a smell akin to rotting meat. Identification comes from asset name.
Calla Lily ~ Note: Not named but identified by the texture used. It is seen in Val Royeaux planters.
Cattail ~ Note: Seen through out DAO and DAI, identification comes from asset name.
Coleus ~ Note: Not named but identified by the texture used. It is seen in Val Royeaux planters and in the Frostback Basin.
Crape Myrtle
Cypress: Italian Cypress, Topiary Cypress ~ Note: In terms of the Italian Cypress, in world it wouldl likely be called the "Antivan Cypress" given that Antiva is pulling from Italian culture, food, environments, and other inspirational elements. Cypress is a plant that is named in canon.
Daikon Radish ~ Note: Found on Dennet's farm, identification comes from asset name.
Dogwood
Elephant Ear ~ Note: Foliage found in the Frostback Basin, identification comes from asset name.
Fade Berry
Fern: Red Fern, Sword Fern ~ Note: The red fern isn't a real plant and therefore can be considered unique to Thedas. In contrast the sword fern is a real plant. Identification comes from the asset name for both of these ferns.
Forest Clover
Foxleaf ~ Note: This is another plant that is not real, no plant has this common name as far as I could find.
Gasbloom ~ Note: Seen in the Arbor Wilds, the Frostback Basin some elven ruins, and the elven ruins of multiplayer levels. Their identification comes from the asset name. There are two versions of the texture the "fixed" version is used in JoH dlc and thus explains the difference in appearance. This is not the name of a known mushroom.
Hero Tree
Palm: Curly Palm, Fan Palm ~ Note: Both palms are seen in the Frostback Basin, both are identified by their named assets.
Pear Cactus ~ Note: Found in the Frostback Basin, identification comes from the asset name.
Pine: Chir Pine
Ponga Tree ~ Note: Also known as the 'Tree Fern'. This is the tree you see in Val Royeaux garden as coming from Par Vollen, and throughout the Arbor Wilds.
Redwood ~ Note: Identified by the name of the file asset. Found in the Winter Palace, Exalted Plains, and on multiplayer maps.
Snapdragon
Trex
Waterweed ~ Note: In real life this is an entire genus not one particular plant. Though the six plants in this genus do share the common name of waterweed.
White Birch
Witchhazel
Additional Notes and Trivia
Ironwood - Unclear if this is an alternative name, the actual name of the plant, or both.
Morel - This mushroom is inferred due to the existence of Blighted Morel. However it is not explicitly specified there is a non-blighted morel.
Sponge Root - Though canonical as it is mentioned and shown in World of Thedas vol. 2 on pg. 138 with a collection of deep mushroom and surface mushroom illustrations. This mushroom was cut twice from Inquisition. It was cut from the base game as a craftable, it had a much different appearance from its final design, and then it was cut again from Trespasser. It does however still make an appearance in Inquisition as the inventory icon for Crystal Grace.
Unnamed Glowing Mushroom Is mentioned in multiplayer when there are two Lukas playing.
Unnamed Mushroom These brown mushrooms are seen in the Fallow Mire and the Frostback Basin. They are shown in two different sizes ranging from shorter than a dwarf to taller than one.
There is one unlisted mushroom, its assets is named "red mushroom" and thus is identified by textures. These is not a canon name but is included for completeness. Amanita Muscaria: More commonly know as fly agaric or fly amanita, the red top with white spots is an iconic in its imagery. You will find large swaths of these mushrooms in the Frostback Basin. Their assets is named "Red Mushroom".
Winterberry is a real plant. However, from what we see in DA2, it does not the same as the plant we have in the real world, just a shared common name.
Wormroot is another real plant name. However, due to the description in The Calling, it does not seem to be the same plant. In The Calling it is used to treat the venom of a giant spider. The real world plant is used to treat parasites in the gut and does not seem to hold any shared uses in folk lore, folk medicine, or western medicine practices.

okayyyy the lovely @ruthvelyan tagged me in a game to gush about an oc?? lmao idk all the rules, i think it can be any oc you like, but i love to talk about my beloved dorterrr so! lmao here we go <3
Tumblr media
i'm sorryyyyy i don't have almost any good screen grabs of her bc i'm too busy playinggg lmao
NAME: Miri of Clan Lavellan (all the shems think her clan name is her second name and she is judging them lmao)
NICKNAME: usually it's just Miri, but Varric calls her Snowdrop! (partly bc she reminds him of Merrill :') )
GENDER: cis female
TAROT/ZODIAC: judgement and the wheel of fortune // scorpio sun, capricorn moon, aries rising
HEIGHT: 5'3" // 160 cm
ORIENTATION: straight and polyamorous
NATIONALITY/ETHNICITY: Dalish! her clan roamed the Free Marches and Antiva when she was young.
FAVORITE FRUIT: pears! she loves the flowers too <3
FAVORITE SEASON: summer, definitely! during the summers her clan would travel father south to escape some of the heat, and that often meant they'd spend months camped along the Minanter River. she loved to swim there, and loved all the colorful dragonflies. <3
FAVORITE FLOWER: waterlilies! also courtesy of the Minanter :)
FAVORITE SCENT: wood smoke, the spices used to cure venison in her clan, fresh bread, and the scent of fresh herbs (things like wild mint, elfroot, embrium, vetivert root, and lemongrass!)
COFFEE, TEA, OR HOT CHOCOLATE: teaaaa all the way, and she's especially fond of green tea. she'll drink whatever caffeine is available, though, for sure. i headcanon that Cullen drinks a particular earl grey blend with peppermint for his headaches, and when they get closer i'm sure she drinks it with him and loves it!
AVERAGE HOURS OF SLEEP: 5-7. she tries very hard to get enough sleep, because she knows she's cranky without it and isn't as suited to the work she has to take care of, but she's got a bit of insomnia that makes falling asleep difficult. she's always up with the sun.
DOGS OR CATS: both! her clan kept dogs, but the Circle had a few cats kept around as mousers, and she really enjoys both now.
DREAM TRIP: after being with the Inquisition, Miri's been pretty much everywhere--what she really wants is to go visit her clan, who now live in Wycome on the coast of the Free Marches.
NUMBER OF BLANKETS: 1-3, depending on the season. she doesn't tolerate either hot or cold very well, and adjusts accordingly. she's always liked having soft furs on her bed, too, because it reminds her of home.
RANDOM FACT: Miri's eyes are heterochromatic! she's got one that's green, and the other is blue.
ahhhh this was so fun, jaz, thank you for the tag!!
i have no idea who's been tagged yet, soooo if you've already done this, that's cool, or if you wanna do it again with a different oc, i would love to see it! i'm gonna tag @starstruckkittyface @broodwolf221 @jazzmckay and anybody else who'd like to do this! i love hearing about ppl's ocs so genuinely, if you wanna do this and haven't been tagged, poke me so i'll see it <3

Tensions rise between Rosalie and Theresa when Rosalie accidentally pushes up against some of Theresa's trauma from the Circles. Cullen and Rosalie have a heart to heart about some of his own trauma from Kirkwall.
DAFF tag list: @rakshadow, @rosella-writes, @effelants, @bluewren, @breninarthur, @ar-lath-ma-cully, @dreadfutures, @ir0n-angel, @inquisimer, @crackinglamb, @theluckywizard, @nirikeehan, @oxygenforthewicked, @exalted-dawn-drabbles, @melisusthewee, @blarrghe, @agentkatie
“This is serious!” Cullen takes the seat opposite her and leans in like he’s divulging some dark secret. “The Chantry may not officially condemn apostates anymore, but that doesn’t mean everyone has forsaken the hunt.”  His fingers fiddle absently with the silk cord hanging from his neck while he talks, until Cal comes over to rest his head in his lap, and Cullen reaches down to scratch him behind the ears.  “I only wanted to identify the species,” Rosie protests weakly, turning to Theresa for support. “It’s embrium. I can make more salve for your hay fever.”  “Thank you.” Theresa takes the seat on Cullen’s left, resting her hand on his forearm as she sends an apologetic smile across to Rosie. “But Cullen’s not wrong. There is still strong opposition to the dissolution of the Circles, and much lingering fear and hatred.” Rosie can’t help rolling her eyes. “I wasn’t being reckless. I checked first, and no one was looking. I’m not stupid enough to get caught.”   Theresa’s eyes flash a quiet warning. “How fortunate for you,” she says with a tone that could lower the temperature of the whole room, “that you were kept hidden from those dangers.”  Rosie feels the unwelcome prick of angry tears behind her eyes, and fires back. “And how fortunate for you , to grow up around people just like you, without worrying what dangers you’re putting your family in every time you try to learn!”  Cullen shoots Rosie a glare that clearly means, “Shut up , idiot!” But it’s too late. Damage done. Theresa’s gone completely still, in the way a pond will freeze over in the winter. Devoid of all external signs of life, but in constant motion just below the surface. Everything about her freezes… except her eyes, which simmer with an undercurrent of anger that makes Rosie want to swallow her tongue.  Only then does she realise what she’s just said, and to who. But she holds her gaze, too stubborn to back down now.
