I headcanon that at first Ray is adamantly against the use of nicknames and pet names for himself because he thinks it's silly.
"My name is Ray. It's literally three letters and one syllable long. Just call me Ray."
But Emma can't let that stand. She has "sunshine" and "Em," Norman has "Nor," "Norm," and "Boss."
So her proposed solution is for Ray to change his name so that "Ray" can be a nickname and show of affection. Ray balks at the suggestions she litters throughout their conversations, addressing him as Raymond, Rayner, even Raybert at one point.
Norman is more deft in his timing so the first time he drops a "Raymond" during one of their chess matches he ends up on the receiving end of Ray channeling Isabella with this look
Tumblr media
He does eventually come around to them calling him Sunray.

Hello there!
I've been wanting to read books on the Borgia family for a while, and I feel like you're the correct person to ask about this. Do you have any recommendations?
hiii! thank you for your question :) i often talk about sarah dunant as the best historical fiction writer about the borgia family because of how impressively she depicted their characters and gave them nuance and justice without hyping anyone at the expense of others (fascinating character intros, less yassificated portrayal of cesare borgia, and without the extremely unfair resorting to simplifying and taking personal jabs at juan borgia just for the sake of it) in her novel 'blood and beauty'. it also includes groundbreaking twists. now, i want to talk about emma lucas as the best biographer of the borgias. her work is a solid read, very unbiased without any manipulation of the letters about/between the siblings to push certain narratives (hello sarah bradford!!), well-researched, sheds light on the family's complex relationships and their rise to power, and is highly sympathetic to all of them. you won't be disappointed!!

Name: Elora Spiros Species: Siren Occupation: Aspiring Musician Age: 31 Years Old Played By: Tyler Face Claim: Emma Stone
“No beauty without pain.”
Elora Spiros was born to two siren parents in a modest yet very lively colony. Her parents were well respected in the community, and she had a very happy upbringing. Her father Atticus was a strong and successful protector of the community, and on her 21st birthday, he passed his protection duties on to her. Elora had grown up to be a very well respected member in her colony, and everybody put their entire faith that she would take up the mantle just as well as her father had. For years, she would enchant would-be intruders with her voice and gently lead them away from the colony, after a light bit of feeding, of course. She made it a point to never kill the people she enchanted away, as disappearances always lead to unwanted attention.
It came to pass one day that one traveler passing through on their ship started poking his nose where it didn’t belong, and Elora stepped in to lead him away as she always had. Only, this person didn’t seem enchanted in any way by her voice. Instead, he held his position and struck up a conversation with her. He spoke of his love for nature and conservationism. He even told her that he was part of an activist group helping to keep the oceans clean. He remarked about all the trash and filth that needed to be cleansed out. He introduced himself as Jake. They spoke for what must have been hours during this first meeting, but soon Elora had to return to her duties, people would start wondering where she had went.
Despite this, however, her and the man would have frequent secret meetings. She had always kept her human appearance up around him, at least initially. Over time, however, she eventually revealed her true identity to him. Slowly but surely, she revealed more and more secrets about herself and her other colony members. To her relief, he smiled and listened to her with wonder. He told her that she was the most beautiful creature he had ever lain eyes on, human or not. How was she possibly to know what he would actually do?
One day, he led her down to a secret grotto across the ocean, farther away from her home than she cared to ever be. She kept trying to redirect him closer towards the colony so she could continue to keep an eye on things, but he was adamant.
When they returned, what she saw completely broke her. Dead bodies, everywhere. Her kin, her family. Completely slaughtered, and a group of men standing in the middle of all of the chaos looking all to pleased with themselves. Rangers.
Heartbroken and betrayed, she turned to Jake, who greeted her with a large blade through her chest. She collapsed to the ground, and looked up at the man she had grown to love as he casually pulled the blade from her body, and walked away with his group. They looted what they could, and left the rest to rot. Much to Elora’s dismay, she would end up surviving the ordeal. She would be the only one.
It wasn’t long before every other siren along the southeast coast knew of her story. Many looked down on her with contempt. Failure. She was supposed to protect them and she failed. She was completely unable to find a new home anywhere she went, as her reputation followed her everywhere. For years, she became a drifter. She had no goal or aim in life, only wishing she could have died along with her people that day. Her main goal she strove for was hiding, to hide from the guilt and shame as much as she could. It was never any use, as the voice in her own head was always the one that spoke the loudest.
After years of hiding, she decided that she was done living her life in the shadows. She had been granted the gift of life, and the best thing that she could do with it was live to the fullest and make the most of herself. Live for her friends, her neighbors, and her parents. And what better way to do that than with the voice she had used to enchant so many people already?
She had a surprising amount of difficulty making in the music industry, even with her angelic voice. After a year of wandering and hitting dead ends, she decided to set down roots. She had heard from an old friend she had made during her days as a drifter that there was a community of very special people that may be a good spot to settle down in until her music career gets off the ground. There were even rumors that it was a hotbed for supernatural activity, maybe she could find kindred spirits and other shifters in that town after all. Maybe another group of sirens who could give her the second chance she needed.
Character Facts:
Personality: Ambitious, caring, jaded, creative, loyal, calculating, self-isolating
While she is able to enthrall others with her voice, she tries to avoid it as much as possible. This is because the process can easily become an addiction for her.
While her voice is potent in person, it has no magical properties in a recording, It is, however, still beautiful.
She is an aspiring musician who makes music in a style that can be described as a mix of Billie Eilish and Lorde.
She suffered an injury not long after coming to Wicked's Rest that left her with a deformity/disability to her left hand.

Emma Titansong - Nordic Champion and Honorary Bosun
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age: 20
Level: 80/160 Life, levelless Buccaneer
Personality: Resilient, thorny, blatant, gruff, loving but not flowery about it.
Status: Holding on his own with a crew of her own, though desperately trying to make it back to her family in one piece.
Story: The Spiral used to be a game. Emma was one of the more hardcore of my characters from the get-go. A soloist Life wizard who primarily quested simply to challenge herself and his own capabilities. He 100%'ed Grizzleheim and Wintertusk, earning her title as Nordic Champion, and made it through Avalon's storyline before Nora's divine meltdown corrupted the Spiral and made it an entire universe rather than a family friendly MMORPG. The timeline was forced to catch up to Nora's consequences, stripping Emma of her own role as a The Wizard.
Emma's reputation was not completely lost, however. He still retained her status as Nordic Champion, and so was called to Grizzleheim to help them face their dose of Aberrant magic that Nora released: overwhelming Ice that roused Ymir and triggered the Everwinter. This was a task Emma could not take on solo, however, and so found herself having to ask some of Nora's old associates, the Arcanum, for aid.
Ugh, having to treat NPCs as people. Emma had raised a real stink about the corrupted nature of the Spiral. However, it was only with their help (as well as some more of Nora's old NPC friends, Mellori and Bat) that Emma was able to take down and lull Ymir back to his divine sleep. This great victory and the prosperity it meant for Grizzleheim earned her the surname Titansong.
However, Emma was now officially roped into the Arcanum, as were her two sisters Star and Savannah. Which meant getting officially involved in cleaning up more of Nora's mess. Nora had become an antagonist on the same tier as Malistaire and Morganthe, in Emma's eyes.
Nora's death in Karamelle hit Emma's family far harder than it hit Emma herself. When Star suggested the idea of finding a more stable home for Savannah and Nora's baby sister Iridian, multiversal friend Owen Macheca (@saturniidaze's main OC) offered to let the girls move in with their adopted family in the (Multiversal) Reconstructed AU (@clockwork-fiends). Emma at first thought it a pointless change for himself because as the 'oldest', she's still going to be responsible for cleaning up the Aberrant magic, so what does it matter where she lives? But, it's not like he could say the same for Savannah and Iridian, and Emma refused to leave her remaining family to face a change by themselves.
Emma found peace but a sense of dissatisfaction with her new life. As much as Wizarding had been about cleaning up the villains' wrongdoings and saving the Spiral, there was also always the prospect of actually defeating the villains themselves, the final bosses. Such a prospect could not happen in Corrupted Spiral, as Nora was already dead. It felt futile.
Emma wanted to be a classic Wizard so bad, like old times? Enter the Butterfly Effect AU (@klaraflamez). Its villains had discovered the presence of the multiverse and wanted to spread their influence throughout it. One such villain kidnapped Emma and imbued him with the magic and memories of all of canon up to that point, pulling him from 80 to 160 in an instant. The magic overwhelmed Emma and fed on both her preexisting Life magic and her preconceived notions of canon superiority.
Emma was eventually saved and that one villain defeated in glorious fashion, but not without consequence. Weakened and horrified, Emma wanted nothing to do with Wizarding ever again. She would need a long while to recover physically, magically, and mentally before daring to reclaim magic on his own terms again.
Thankfully, her adoptive family was able to give Emma the time and safety and stability needed to heal and cope. The only thing that couldn't recover was Emma's sense of purpose. With absolutely no desire to return to Wizarding proper (not even with the Arcanum), Emma struggled to find something to do, something to challenge her in a way she wanted.
A new opportunity sailed up to her doorstep, in the form of the Stray Dogs (also @saturniidaze), a crew of pirates whose captain was the estranged sister of Emma's adoptive dad's partner. (It's not as complicated as it sounds.) Emma took to the Stray Dogs and especially their captain, Kindra, like a duck to water. The only thing holding her back from joining the Stray Dogs full-time was his devotion to his family, which had extended to include the Macheca family as well. But being distant is not the same as being disloyal. The family encouraged Emma to follow her heart. And Emma's heart yearned for challenge.
Pirating was great! With a mix of melee and magic at her disposal, Emma became a versatile fighter as well as a sturdy and eager hand on deck. At last, Emma had found something that truly spoke to her ever since her first Spiral fell from canon.
Her reputation spread beyond the Stray Dogs, however. The Armada caught wind of Titansong's power as a mage, and so captured her for study and technological development. His excess of magic would prove a valuable test for the Bishop's extra-strength magical inhibitors. After a torturous few weeks and Emma finally convincing the Bishop that "neither of us fucking want this. Letting me go and dealing with the consequences is better than suffering my bullying forever. Twink", she escaped.
But now Emma is a wanted fugitive of the Armada, and with the inhibitors still on her (taking them off would force her to recover from all the mana drained) & weeks of wasting away in an Armada cell, Emma certainly can't survive the skies on her own. Enlisting the help of jaded Valencian Resistance soldier Gaspard du Vole, Emma is now on the hunt for two things: a way home and a safe method and time to take off the inhibitors, all while evading capture again.
Sure as the goose makes its migration, the newly-fledged Flock will find its way.
