#emotion efficacy therapy
Text
the whole "gangsters don't deserve therapy" b plot is fascinating as an artifact from the transitionary period as talk therapy was popularized.
mental health intervention in the cultural imagination broadly went from being locked up in a mental asylum (scary, harsh, punitive and similar to prison) to emotional support with extra steps-- some guy asks over and over how that makes you feel, you eventually say out loud how it makes you really feel, and then ??? healed. probably a magic therapy laser. [therapy is obviously more than this.] there's nothing particularly special about honesty with a stranger, even if they're professional advice givers, so the next step in this logical progression is people who need/use/like talk therapy are emotional babies while people who need institutionalization are scary/polluted/Dangerous. talk therapy is delegitimized as a medical intervention and is just paid emotional support for extra sensitive people.
it's an excellent example of how criminalization stigma works by making criminalized actions more dangerous and then using that manufactured danger as evidence in support of criminalization. the classic example is drug use. when you make drugs illegal, the user is forced to forge criminal connections and enter dangerous situations and risk exposure to tainted substances in order to use the drug. if they face an emergency when using, they do not contact emergency services out of fear of punishment and more people die. if they want to stop, there is little help to be found and they rarely ask anyway out of fear of getting in trouble, keeping addiction rates high. these dangers are portrayed as inherent to drug use and used as justification for both opposing drug use universally and punishing those who make the mistake of getting caught up with them. but when drugs are legal, users to the store and go home. or a concert idk their itinerary. a safe place to get fucked up, not situations where they need their wits like getting away with a crime. if there is an emergency while using, they call for help and lives are saved. if they want to stop, they seek medical treatment and addiction rates fall astronomically. despite its efficacy, just letting drug users have drugs is seen as obscene, chaos, anarchy, inviting problems.
and then you make a show about a mobster getting talk therapy. and just like giving drugs to an addict, it doesn't make sense. this is a man that is scary/polluted/Dangerous due to his actions and his choices, not an extra sensitive person who needs more emotional support than others to get through the day. he does not deserve the extra emotional support for sensitive people, he deserves to be punished, kept locked up in a room away from normal not dangerous people so whatever makes him dangerous can be identified and forcibly altered. supporting him at all in any way without forced alteration must be dangerous, must be basically helping him better endure the emotional pain of crime and hurting others. like facilitating the harm he does to others by removing the obstacle of emotional difficulties that accompany it.
and this thought process was real enough to the show that it is causing the therapist negative social consequences. her husband and counselor are bullying her into dropping the client, and her new understanding of crime and its causes is alienating her from her more judgemental peers. and tony IS scary, he is predatory and scaring her through this period. he's had her followed, got her date beat up, stole her car, kissed her, and regularly erupts with belligerent tirades before storming out of their session. a very very difficult patient, but not altogether uncommon if the practitioner treats severe and persistent mental illnesses (SPMI). and instead of getting the support from friends and family that a practitioner would normally get wrt treating SPMI in a patient, she is blamed for it. if you didn't want to be treated that way, you shouldn't have taken on an evil dangerous patient and given him the wrong kind of therapy that makes him more dangerous. she can't ask anyone for help without being blamed for needing it.
because tony is so ruthlessly stigmatized, because our punitive culture cannot imagine a path forward without exacting vengeance upon him and claiming their pound of flesh, she and her work are stigmatized by association, her professional boundary as a doctor treating a patient with a right to medical care is is dissolved, and the intervention is made more dangerous through her inability to treat tony the same as any other patient and activate her own support networks in reaction to difficult work accordingly.
still in season 1 so idk how this is gonna pan out, but if it continues on this trend, i think the show probably had a significant impact on people's respect for and understanding of what therapy is and does. i bet the sopranos was to therapy what will and grace was to the gays

The subject of crystals is fascinating and has both scientific and metaphysical aspects. Here's a breakdown of some key points:
Structure and Properties: Crystals are solids with a repeating, ordered arrangement of atoms or molecules. This regular structure gives them unique physical properties, such as clarity, hardness, and the ability to reflect and refract light. Crystals can come in various shapes and sizes.
Metaphysical Beliefs: In metaphysical or spiritual practices, crystals are often believed to possess energy or vibrations that can affect a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. These beliefs can vary widely, with different crystals associated with specific intentions or healing properties. However, these claims often lack empirical scientific evidence.
Scientific Understanding: In the scientific community, crystals are studied in fields like crystallography, mineralogy, and solid-state physics. Scientists do acknowledge that some crystals have unique properties. For example, quartz crystals can generate electrical voltage when pressure is applied (piezoelectricity) and can maintain a stable oscillation frequency (quartz clocks). These properties have practical applications, like in electronic devices.
Energy and Vibrations: While crystals do not possess mystical energies, they do vibrate at the molecular level due to their regular atomic structure. These vibrations are a fundamental aspect of their physical properties. However, these vibrations are usually at frequencies well beyond what is perceptible to humans.
Healing and Alternative Medicine: Crystals are often used in alternative healing practices like crystal therapy. Practitioners believe that placing crystals on or around the body can balance energy, promote relaxation, and support emotional well-being. It's important to note that the efficacy of crystal healing is a subject of debate, and scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited.
Radiation: Some crystals, like uranium-containing minerals, do emit radiation. This radiation is typically in the form of alpha, beta, or gamma rays. Crystals with radioactive properties can pose health risks if not handled safely.
In summary, while crystals have fascinating physical properties and are integral to scientific fields, their metaphysical and healing properties often lack empirical evidence. Many people find personal meaning and value in working with crystals, but it's essential to approach these practices with critical thinking and an understanding of the scientific and cultural contexts surrounding crystals.

For decades, the standard therapy proffered to victims of disaster—terrorist attack, combat, severe burn injury—was the “psychological debriefing.” A therapist would invite victims of a tragedy into a group session in which participants were encouraged to “process” their negative emotions, learned to recognize the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and discouraged from discontinuing therapy. Study after study has shown that this bare-bones process is sufficient to make PTSD symptoms worse.
Well-meaning therapists often act as though talking through your problems with a professional is good for everyone. That isn’t so. Nor is it the case that as long as the therapist is following protocols, and has good intentions, the patient is bound to get better.
Any intervention potent enough to cure is also powerful enough to hurt. Therapy is no benign folk remedy. It can provide relief. It can also deliver unintended harm and does so in up to 20 percent of patients.
Therapy can lead a client to understand herself as sick and rearrange her self-understanding around a diagnosis. Therapy can encourage family estrangement—coming to realize that it’s all Mom’s fault and you never want to see her again. Therapy can exacerbate marital stress, compromise a patient’s resilience, render a patient more traumatized, more depressed, and undermine her self-efficacy so she’s less able to turn her life around. Therapy may lead a patient by degrees—sunk into a leather sofa, well-placed tissue box close at hand—to become overly dependent on her therapist.
This is true even for adults, who in general are much less easily led by other adults. These iatrogenic effects pose at least as great a risk, and likely much more, to children.
Police officers who responded to a plane crash and then underwent debriefing sessions exhibited more disaster-related hyperarousal symptoms eighteen months later than those who did not receive the treatment. Burn victims exhibited more anxiety after therapy than those left untreated. Breast cancer patients have left peer support groups feeling worse about their condition than those who opted out. And counseling sessions for normal bereavement often make it harder, not easier, for mourners to recover from loss. Some people who say they “just don’t want to talk about it” know better than the experts what will help them: spending time with family; exercising; putting one foot in front of the other; gradually adjusting to the loss.
When it comes to our psyches, we’re a lot more bespoke than mental health professionals often acknowledge or allow. And Tuesdays at four p.m. may not be when we’re ready to confront our woes with a hired expert. Reminiscing with a friend, cracking a joke with your spouse you wouldn’t dare make with anyone else, helping your cousin box up her apartment—without talking about your problems—often aids recovery far more than sitting around in a room full of sad people. Therapy can hijack our normal processes of resilience, interrupting our psyche’s ability to heal itself, in its own way, at its own time.
Think of it this way: group therapy for those who experienced loss or disaster forces the coping to hang out with the sad. This may make the relatively resilient sadder and prompt the sad to stew. The most dejected steer the ship to Planet Misery, with everyone else trapped inside.
Individual therapy can intensify bad feelings, too. Psychiatrist Samantha Boardman wrote candidly about a patient who quit therapy after a few weeks of treatment. “All we do is talk about the bad stuff in my life,” the patient told Boardman. “I sit in your office and complain for 45 minutes straight. Even if I am having a good day, coming here makes me think about all the negative things.” Reading that, I remembered saving up emotional injuries to report to my therapist so that we would have something to talk about at our session—injuries I might have just let go.
Interestingly, even when patients’ symptoms are made objectively worse by therapy, they tend to assume the therapy has helped. We rely largely on how “purged” we feel when we leave a therapist’s office to justify our sense that the therapy is working. We rarely track objective markers, for example, the state of our career or relationships, before reaching a conclusion. Sometimes when our lives do improve, it’s not because the therapy worked but because the motivation that led us to start therapy also led us to make other positive changes: spend more time with friends and family, reconnect with people we haven’t heard from in a while, volunteer, eat better, exercise.
An embarrassing number of psychological interventions have little proven efficacy. They have nonetheless been applied with great élan to children and adolescents.

Why you no therapist, Starwars?
"The Jedi don't have therapists so they couldn't possibly understand emotions or how to raise kids"
"If Anakin got therapy he would've been totally fine"
"The Jedi would be against the idea of therapy"
i'm gonna scream at someone
Analyzing a work of fiction point 1:
The reason the Jedi don’t have dedicated therapists isn’t because SW characters are dumb or ignorant of how emotions work, it’s because SW came out starting in the 1970s and 80s.
I'm not saying talk therapy was non existent as a concept then, but I am I’m saying it was much less culturally prevalent, and shoe horning it into the world in the prequels would’ve been a shoddy, out of place world building decision for a world created in the 70s.
Actually important point 1:
For almost all of the world’s population, therapy is still a very new and very foreign concept, and most humans that have existed over the past 300,000 years or so have managed to successfully understand what an emotion was and done a functional job of raising their offspring. There are not skills that solely emerged from the study of psychology.
Analyzing a work of fiction point 2:
Because we're talking about a work of fiction, it's essential to note that George Lucas wasn’t making movies about the efficacy of therapy in treating childhood trauma. He was writing about family and love and individual moral choices, and there isn't the runtime in a couple hours of movie for half a dozen therapy scenes that wouldn't serve his themes at all.
Go watch like,,, Good Will Hunting, if you want a movie about therapy and trauma, it's great.
The Jedi would be super supportive of therapy if they lived in a universe where it was a concept, and if you want to read a version of that done well, I recommend reading Force of Many Sights by DAsObiQuiet on ao3. It’s a wonderful fic, linked below.
Actually Important point 2:
Talk therapy isn't a universal solution. It doesn't work for all people, for all problems, at all times. Just getting someone into therapy is not a guarantee of recovery or even any improvement at all. It's a really great tool, a good idea to try out if you haven't, cheers if it works for you! But saying that 'therapy would've fixed everything' is misleading, western/21st century centric, and utterly dismissive of the complexity of treating both trauma and mental illness.

Physiotherapy at Home
Title: The Evolution of Rehabilitation: Exploring the Impact of Physiotherapy at Home
In recent years, the landscape of healthcare has undergone significant transformation, driven by advancements in technology, shifting patient needs, and a growing emphasis on personalized care. One area that has seen notable progress is rehabilitation, with the emergence of innovative solutions like "Physiotherapy at Home" revolutionizing the way patients access and receive rehabilitative services.
The Rise of Home-Based Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy at home represents a departure from traditional clinic-based models of care, offering patients the convenience and comfort of receiving treatment in their own homes. This shift towards home-based rehabilitation has been propelled by several factors, including the increasing demand for accessible and patient-centered care, advancements in telehealth technology, and the recognition of the importance of the home environment in the rehabilitation process.
Personalized Care Tailored to Individual Needs
One of the primary benefits of physiotherapy at home is its ability to deliver personalized care tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of each patient. Unlike clinic-based rehabilitation, which may follow a one-size-fits-all approach, home-based therapy allows for a more individualized and holistic approach to treatment. Therapists have the opportunity to assess patients in their own environments, gaining valuable insights into their daily routines, challenges, and goals. This enables them to develop customized treatment plans that address not only the physical aspects of recovery but also the social, emotional, and environmental factors that may impact rehabilitation outcomes.
The Role of Technology in Home-Based Rehabilitation
Technology plays a crucial role in facilitating physiotherapy at home, enabling therapists to deliver high-quality care remotely and monitor patients' progress between sessions. Telehealth platforms allow for virtual consultations, exercise demonstrations, and real-time feedback, providing patients with continuous support and guidance throughout their rehabilitation journey. Wearable devices and mobile apps further enhance the patient experience by allowing individuals to track their progress, set goals, and communicate with their therapists from the comfort of their homes.
Advantages Over Traditional Clinic-Based Care
The advantages of physiotherapy at home over traditional clinic-based care are manifold. In addition to the convenience and comfort of receiving treatment at home, home-based rehabilitation offers greater flexibility in scheduling, reduced transportation barriers, and increased opportunities for family involvement and support. Moreover, research has shown that patients who receive care at home may experience faster recovery times, higher levels of satisfaction, and improved adherence to treatment plans compared to those receiving clinic-based care.
Empowering Patients and Promoting Independence
Physiotherapy at home empowers patients to take an active role in their own recovery, fostering a sense of autonomy and self-efficacy. By providing education, resources, and support, therapists help patients develop the skills and confidence they need to manage their conditions independently and prevent future injuries or setbacks. This empowerment not only enhances patients' quality of life but also reduces healthcare costs and promotes long-term health and well-being.
Overcoming Challenges and Expanding Access
While physiotherapy at home offers numerous benefits, it is not without its challenges. Ensuring patient safety, maintaining communication and collaboration between therapists and patients, and addressing technical issues related to telehealth platforms are among the key considerations facing home-based rehabilitation programs. However, as technology continues to advance and healthcare delivery models evolve, these challenges are being increasingly addressed, paving the way for expanded access to home-based rehabilitation services for individuals of all ages and abilities.
Conclusion: Embracing the Future of Rehabilitation
In conclusion, physiotherapy at home represents a transformative approach to rehabilitation that is reshaping the way patients access and receive care. By combining the convenience and comfort of home-based treatment with the personalized and holistic approach of physiotherapy, this innovative model of care is empowering patients, improving outcomes, and enhancing the overall quality of rehabilitation services. As we continue to embrace the possibilities of home-based rehabilitation, we move closer towards a future where rehabilitation is accessible, effective, and patient-centered for all.

Do you have theories about what Maya did to Fisk in Echo’s finale? Also, do you plan to write more? I’d love a sequel of your AU where Fisk buys Matt from an abusive husband.
1. Thank you for interest in that AU. I won't say I'll never add to it, but I don't think I currently have enough ideas to continue. Maybe one day. Never say, "Never." But I am writing on another FiskMatt fic right now, if you're interested in it. I just hit a bit of writer's block, but I finally finished the next chapter. Should be up soon.
+
2. You mean in the final confrontation when Maya used her new healing powers (the MCU will do anything but give Maya her comic ability) on Fisk? I do, yes! I guess you could almost say it was like a therapy speedrun. Hahaha.
I have Thoughts on a lot of how they wrote Fisk in Echo (some good, some bad), and I may make a larger post just to get my thoughts out of my head. (Instead of texting my friend a lot.) But I was happy with the choice they made to have Maya challenge Fisk emotionally instead of physically. She didn't want to kill him (again), but instead heal him from past pain, like her mother's spirit did for her.
It makes me think of this bit from an X-Men comic. (Don't mistake me for someone who knows a lot about X-Men. lol. Just a few things.) Pietro's daughter, Luna, has the ability to alter people's emotions. She think she is helping pop-pop Magneto (I refuse retconning that he isn't Wanda/Pietro's father) by making him let go of the negative and traumatic emotions associated with his past. But Magneto does not want to be "saved" from that pain and anger. It belongs to him and is a driving force in everything he does.
Tumblr media
That but with Maya and Fisk.
She still cares for the good parts of him she loved, and she wanted to be the bigger person and help him instead of hurt him further. I think it might even be empathetically motivated. It felt good when Taloa healed Maya from her emotional pain, and she thought it would help Fisk to do the same.
So when Fisk went on about how the trauma of an abusive childhood shaped him and motivated him, Maya thought if she could remove those negative emotions and get him to embrace her, let go of the hammer/violence/pain, it would help Fisk be less inclined towards evil in the now. In a sense, it might "cure" him.
But like with Magneto, it's not what Fisk wanted. He needs that anger and violence to be who he is. He doesn't want to be saved from it, not even for Maya. That's why he screamed, "I am not who you want me to be!" (Sad line, btw.) As if she wants to scrape away the "bad parts" of him and leave behind a better version. Fisk denies that he is or can be that person. (We love self-aware characters.)
It's not explicitly confirmed in the psychic vision of his childhood bedroom (*chef's kiss* for that choice of setting) if he does relinquish the hammer to her. The scene cuts away to reality. But you kind of get the sense that maybe he did, given his reaction.
Tumblr media
I love how genuinely unsettled he appears for the rest of the episode. Like the ground collapsed beneath his feet, and he's trying to reconcile what his own emotions mean anymore.
Sitting in his plane, distractedly rubbing his fingertips together, as he is wont to do in times of unease. (Can't gif right now.)
Tumblr media
So I'm not completely certain if Maya "turned off" the origin of all his anger, but it does sort of feel that way, right?
I don't doubt he'll once more be the unhinged anger man we love when we get to DD: Born Again, but I would love to see a small character arc where Fisk has to forcibly retake his rage or else lose all efficacy. (Something legitimately dangerous when you have as many enemies as he does.) I think it could be really, really good if they follow up with something like that.

Building confidence with chronic illness and disability
Tumblr media
What does it look like to be empowered and confident with a disability or chronic illness?
I’ve been pondering this lately as I find it’s easy to get into the mindset that when my health improves or if I fully recover, then I’ll finally feel confident, badass and empowered. And yes, that’s partly true. Having more energy and wellbeing definitely gives me a huge boost in my mood and sense of self efficacy. I also think it’s great to work on improving our health as much as possible.
However, what do we do in the mean time? What would it look like to be the best version of myself, right here with my current circumstances? I've been pondering this question recently, and wanted to explore it further.
Unfortunately, many of us get trapped in a downward spiral that feels out of our control. Feeling unwell saps our self esteem, and having to stop jobs, reduce social activities or limit hobbies can be very depressing. It’s a vicious circle that can be tough to escape. Financial and health struggles can create so much anxiety and stress, it can feel crippling not just physically, but mentally, too. It can feel shameful and embarrassing, and often we just want to hide and protect ourselves.
There can also be a lot of self-consciousness about our physical bodies and appearance. For example, many medications can make people put on weight, fatigue can cause dark circles under the eyes, and allergies can make people’s faces look puffy. Surgeries can also leave people with scars and it’s normal to wonder if people will find you attractive, especially in the dating scene.
However, the great thing about working on our health and confidence is that it can also be an upward spiral. Confidence can help motivate and empower us to improve our health and life situation, and in turn the increase in energy and health can boost our confidence. I’ve found that even improving my health by 5% or 10% can make a surprisingly dramatic difference in my overall quality of life. Every little bit counts!
Here is my advice, based on my life experience - in no particular order:
One: Escape the comparison trap.
Stop comparing to others, especially other able bodied people. Even comparing to others with the same condition can be highly problematic, as people have wildly varying symptoms, different levels of severity, as well as different levels of support and financial resources. Many people with the same outward symptoms also have a completely different root cause (or combination of root causes). Not to mention the treatments that work for some may not work for others at all. Some people find a silver bullet solution, but for most people, it’s more complex than just one thing.
Focus on yourself and stay in your lane. Concentrate on your personal achievements and look at how far you’ve come. Being able to walk for five minutes may mean nothing to the average person, but it may be a huge milestone for you. Don’t forget to celebrate your wins! Even the small ones. Also embrace the reality that the journey is going to be up and down. You’re going to have good days and bad days. Don’t let that discourage you from continuing.
Two: Self compassion and self acceptance.
Work on talking to yourself with more love, compassion and acceptance. Acceptance is really important because we need to come to terms with our reality, which is often incredibly frustrating and painful. This often involves a great deal of grief too. It’s okay to feel all the emotions, and hold space for them. I find journalling, therapy and EFT tapping really helpful in this process. I also really like parts work, and the concept of unblending, as it helps me gain perspective on difficult emotions and parts.
Know that it’s okay to feel the sadness and anger. It’s also okay to feel envious and jealous of people who are able bodied and have easier lives. It’s normal. Don’t add insult to injury by beating yourself up over totally normal emotions!! Society encourages us to repress and deny our shadow, but we need safe spaces to talk about the tough stuff.
Being disabled and chronically ill comes with a huge amount of stigma, and often trauma, too. Get the treatment you need for any trauma that’s holding you back and sapping your spirit. I recommend EMDR and somatic therapy, but there’s lots of other modalities out there too.
Three: Own it fully.
This is easier said than done, but when you’re disabled or chronically ill, it’s better to own it and speak about it as confidently as possible. I find this is especially relevant in social or dating situations. I try to be honest, open and frank about my lifestyle and limitations, rather than hiding it or pretending I don’t have any conditions. This is sometimes a tough line to walk as you don’t want to overshare or freak people out, but in general I prefer to be up front with people.
This also includes freely using mobility aids in public settings, social situations or going on dates. I’ve become very comfortable using a mobility scooter to get around, and often take a walking stick with me too. It takes time to get used to this, but the more you do it, the less self-conscious you’ll feel. Some people find it helps to decorate their mobility aids or get a walking stick that looks funky. Canes can be incorporated into a steampunk, dark academia or dapper aesthetic in a fun way! Find a way to own it and make it your own, in a way that suits your personality and style.
Another area that can be challenging is dealing with dietary limitations. Strict diets and allergies can be tricky, but again, it’s better just to own it. I don’t eat at restaurants, but I still go to restaurants and cafes with friends and enjoy hanging out. Yes, it’s a little awkward sometimes, but you have to push through it. The right people won’t care, and will value your presence more than anything else.
Four: Seek supportive connections, friends and community, whether online or off.
Find friends, groups and events that are supportive, uplifting and accessible. Don’t hang around people who judge you or drag you down. Even people who constantly insist on giving annoying unsolicited advice (like "just drink more water!") can drain your precious spoons.
I know this is so much easier said than done, because being disabled or chronically ill can bring with it a great deal of isolation. It’s natural to just hang on to whatever connections you have, and not want to let go or burn a bridge. So be kind to yourself if there’s some people you’re just not ready to let go of right now. But keep looking for better friends who are going to life you up and who fully accept and celebrate you as you are.
Never, ever assume you have to tolerate any abuse or mistreatment because you’re disabled or chronically ill. You are not a burden and never deserve to be treated badly.
The same goes for dates and partners. Don’t settle for people who are toxic, judgemental or just tolerate you – rather than fully accepting and loving you right now, for who you are. Also, find people who respect and cherish you as a person, not for what you can do for them or what you achieve. People who are very focused on things like class, money and status are usually best avoided where possible.
Five: Cultivate a sense of purpose in your life that’s bigger than you.
I find when I’m focused on my purpose and calling, it’s easier to be confident because I’m not so focused on what other people think of me. I recognise that I have a calling that’s a lot more important than that! Obviously, this is easier said than done, especially if you can no longer work – or have had to change jobs, or reduce your work hours. Even volunteering can be surprisingly difficult when you have health limitations.
But purpose, meaning and calling in life are much greater than what we do for money, or even our hobbies. Relationships are a core source of meaning and purpose for many people. Being creative and growing spiritually are also significant. I’ve written more about this in other blog posts, but I find this is a significant piece of building a sense of empowerment in difficult circumstances. Reflecting on your core values can be really powerful and inspiring.
I’d recommend doing an exercise where you select words or phrases that represent your core values in life.
Six: Don’t be afraid to have fun, explore and try new things, as much as you can!
I find singing and dancing at home to positive, empowering songs can really boost my mood and confidence. It can be hard to be as spontaneous and active as I would like, but I still try my best to engage in life to the fullest extent of my capabilities. Sometimes this means asking for help or using mobility aids to get to certain events. It can also mean more planning ahead when travelling.
I really love riding my escooter, as it gives me an adrenaline rush but isn’t too tiring. Think outside the box and be open to new experiences. Brene Brown talks about engaging in laughter, song and dance in her guidelines for wholehearted living, and I think it’s applicable here. Watching hilarious movies and having a laugh with friends can be so uplifting.
Finally, don’t discount celebrating your sexuality. Disabled people are often portrayed as non-sexual, but exploring dating and sex can be a lot of fun and very empowering.
Practical suggestions:
Explore journalling about – what does it mean to live my best and fullest life with my current limitations? What does being empowered and confident look like for me right now? Brainstorm whatever comes to mind.
If you’re feeling rejected or unworthy, put your hand on your heart or your belly, and send love to the parts of you that are holding these emotions. I find self compassion practice can be really powerful.
EFT tapping is a great tool for working through negative core beliefs, like “I’m a burden” or “I’m not enough”.
If people give you a compliment, take a screenshot or write it down and save it into a folder on your computer for whenever you feel down and need a pick me up.
Try writing down your strengths, good qualities and things you like about yourself.
Create a celebration jar where you write down anything you’re proud of or qualities your love about yourself on little bits of paper. Put them in the jar and you can open it whenever you need a reminder. Another option is putting a marble or stone in a jar whenever you do something you’re proud of.
Experiment with visualising yourself as your most confident, empowered self. You could go back to a past memory where you were feeling your best, or imagine yourself in the future. I find doing this while listening to music can be really uplifting.
Use positive affirmations, for example: My worth and value is based on who I am, not on my achievements. I am confident. I am powerful. I deserve to be treated well. If it feels a bit fake or forced, you could try asking yourself, “What if I felt confident?” and see what arises.

Alzheimer's Disease: The Visible, Invisible, and the (Potential) Solution
Memories are everything. Humans like you, and I carry out our everyday lives by relying upon facts, events, faces, and general knowledge to facilitate our decision-making and cater to our emotions. But you may ask, what exactly is a memory? Memories are consolidated forms of information stored within specific brain regions by changing neuronal networks (Zlotnik & Vansintjan). This is a simple definition. Memories are so much more complex and take on different forms, such as remembering how to tie your shoes (stored in the cerebellum) and remembering the name of an old friend, stored in the hippocampus (The Human Memory). Given the importance of this phenomenon, how does it affect us when it is gone or diminished?
Tumblr media
Alzheimer's Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that destroys neuronal fibers, causing memory loss and thinking ability—the important facets of our everyday existence we rely heavily on. Alzheimer's is also widespread, with more than 6 million people in the U.S. affected. Factors such as lifestyle and genetics play massive roles in disease onset and progression. Furthermore, Alzheimer's is characterized in stages, beginning with early-stage symptoms of memory loss and rationality. At the next stage, the patient struggles to recognize friends and family. At the final stage, the patient becomes bedridden and loses almost all of their recollective faculties, leading eventually to death (Alzheimer's.gov).

Neuro and molecular biology play important roles in the progression of this disease. The destruction of neurons occurs via the formation of "senile plaques" and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), causing cell death. Specifically, plaques are caused by an increase in amyloid B proteins, which promote toxic damage via oxidative stress and facilitate apoptosis through their interaction with neuronal cell receptors. It is hypothesized that Alzheimer's worsens because the brain's immune system, namely microglia, damages healthy neuronal tissue when attempting to destroy these plaques (Sun, Chen, & Wang). Additionally, neurofibrillary tangles are caused by the release of Tau proteins on cytoskeletal filaments, leading to the formation of a filament tangle which disrupts neuronal functioning by blocking action potentials, slowing the release and/or reception of neurotransmitters, and preventing the formation of new connections with other neurons (NIH.gov). As Alzheimer's progresses, neuron stunting and death slowly propagate throughout the brain, affecting regions responsible for memory, speech, movement, and rational thought.

But what can be done about it, despite no functional cure existing? That leads us to aducanumab. Aducanumab is the first new drug designed to eliminate plaques at the source. The drug operates through a monoclonal antibody that targets the beta-amyloid protein responsible for plaque formation, cytotoxicity, and neuron death. This immunological treatment flags the amyloid B protein for destruction by various immune cells. Mitigating this protein may be just the way to slow or potentially stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease (alz.org/fda.gov).

The effectiveness of this drug must be brought into question. As therapy with a novel molecular target, its efficacy, efficiency, and safety must be addressed. A study performed by Haeberlein et al. used a double-blind, placebo format in almost 2000 patients with some form of amyloid protein presence. Three study groups—the placebo, a low dose of aducanumab, and a high dose of aducanumab—were observed for 76 weeks for side effects, cognitive improvements, and changes in the levels of certain biomarkers (Haeberlein, S. Budd, Barkhof, Aisen F., et al. 198). Tests were given at different time intervals for cognitive ability (weeks 26, 50, and 78), while some patients received amyloid and tau PET scans, as well as extraction of cerebrospinal fluid (on day 0 and week 78) and blood to measure tau and amyloid B protein (Haeberlein et al. 198-199). The researchers showed that levels of B amyloid were lowered in both low-dose and high-dose groups, however, the high dose showed a 16.5% reduction (Haeberlein et al. 205-206). Also, the PET amyloid scan results indicated lower plasma tau levels and a reduced "clinical decline" (Haeberlein et al. 208). These results indicate potential clinical usability, however, issues with some conflicting results between testing cohorts and the termination of the study early are questioned as this drug enters into more clinical trials.

The promise of a cure is far from a reality. However, important research indicates important steps in elucidating the neurobiological underpinnings of terminal illnesses such as Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is more than just a molecular disorder. It is a real disease affecting real people and bringing various forms of trauma to patients, caregivers, family members, and doctors. Making Alzheimer's visible is just one step to ensuring its clinical resolution.

eating disorder tw but its not the main focus rly i dont think hm wait ok maybe.. mostly gender talk actually
anyways personalizing "it's incredible what women will come up with if left to their own devices" for a sec: ive had trouble articulating this recent phenomenon in my life but lately ive been working on the values i hold "capability" to and the ways that i allow those values to make decisions for me instead of just living life with whimsy.
still caught up in optics as ive always been maybe as a disease of childhood transness but far better than i used to be and yet! im always weighing how material, physical empowerment will be gendered! i saw a quote a while back from like this one transfems lil memoirs and a conversation she had w a friend abt their eating disorder i think? and the friend was like yeah i mean transition and life as a woman has been excruciating enough already but whats another pain if itll help me pass? or whatever. im so scared of gaining any mass anywhere above my waist!!! i wanna throw up thinking about it!!!! oh my god ive never said that before i feel so sick!!!!!
anyways i struggle w NOT presenting weakness or frailty when im fearful of a gendering Eye of Patriarchy or fuckin. male panopticon inside my head but thats the thing! 🥰 ive been divorcing from that panoptic on my head lately! its still there lowkey but my drive to make my life better has been overcoming that adolescent "avoid male interests at all costs" fear :)
so now im like fascinated by like engineering again im thinking of ways to produce more effective hand rests on the bottom of my steering wheel (maybe i wont even have to remove the plastic on the wheel if im good enough at making sockets? for the rests if i make them attachable via clip :3c) and ive been making moves to get into woodworking and throwing together rudimentary furniture which is just so different than what id previously felt abt it. ive been fixing things so often lately like OBSESSED with getting tools for problems i understand 40 year old dads now. that thought is what kills me n saves me tho interestingly enough
what had previously been like a grand gendering process of establishing my princess status (its still there tho) had actually just been reinforcing the unhealthy habits i used to get there in the sense of physical and emotional weakness -- going largely untreated for like 3 or 4 disorders which either obliterate my prefrontal cortex, the integrity and efficacy of my synaptic response in neurotransmission, or my reception of the macro resources necessary to maintain basic body function to name a few... but like theres something to be said for how explicitly gendered it is to be starved-stupid crazy weak and feminine as fuck. not assigning values to those terms (anymore) i was just like leaning into being insanely unwell and calling it a gender role. which tbf is like the predominant myth ALSHSLFHDKD...
... but also im working on stepping away from internalizing a relationship w the myth of gender and using that reaction as my behavioral starting point! (affirmation and argument time) im not a man, i wont even trip and fall into manhood no matter what endeavors i pursue! no matter how much goes on in others ppls heads! there is no way to look at or engage with the world in an explicitly man way because life doesnt actually function on categorical dualities, not to mention bimodal distributions! and thats lesbianism (and therapy) at work! like no presumption of a male occupation of an Entire Sector Of Life And Economy and working on that latent projection of gendered insecurities (and thus production of gendered karma in my materialization of such a projection via action or inaction) onto a life thats literally Just Life Dude. i literally make it. the future doesnt exist yet and the only value it has it the karma we bring to it and take from it!
huge mood change ugh solemn now im forgetting the śūnyatā of the self, the śūnyatā of its form, the śūnyatā of the conception of form itself... of course its only determined internally via extant thought forms and reproduced via tangible, material projection... thats literally the whole racket! of course im suffering with it!!!!!!!!
sooooo yeah im working on recognizing impermanence and encouraging WWP (wonder whim play) just as long as i dont root it in a sense of stability or security! currently that security comes from my sense of any (patriarchal obvi) gendering processes at work in any social situation at hand so i could work on 1. shallowly, my proximity to men or 2. conventionally, my personal processes of projection and reaction to a psychological proximity to men or 3. ultimately, my necessity to ground my "sense of self" in an illusory, impermanent, and universally imprisoning process extant to saṃsāra such as the social mechanisms of gender. i dont even have to fight to have a name for what my wife n i got goin on not because its too complex or too hard but literally i dont care. my words are as empty as yours

Wonders of Ayurvedic skin care on your skin
In a world dominated by synthetic products and quick-fix solutions, the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda offers a refreshing approach to skin care. Rooted in the belief that true beauty arises from balance and harmony within the body, Ayurvedic skin care focuses on holistic well-being rather than merely surface-level treatments. Here are some of the wonders of Ayurvedic skin care:
Natural Ingredients: Ayurvedic skin care relies on natural ingredients sourced from the earth. From soothing aloe vera to purifying neem, these botanicals are chosen for their ability to nourish, heal, and rejuvenate the skin without harsh chemicals or artificial additives.
Customized Formulations: One of the key principles of Ayurveda is that each individual is unique, and skin care should be tailored to suit their specific needs. Ayurvedic practitioners assess an individual's constitutional type, to determine the most appropriate ingredients and treatments for their skin.
Mind-Body Connection: Ayurveda recognizes the intimate connection between the mind and body, understanding that emotional stress and mental unrest can manifest as skin issues. Practices such as meditation, yoga, and pranayama (breathwork) are incorporated into Ayurvedic skin care routines to promote inner peace and harmony, which in turn reflects on the skin.
Detoxification: Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of detoxification to rid the body of toxins that can contribute to skin problems. Internal cleansing techniques such as Panchakarma, along with external therapies like herbal scrubs and oil massage, help to purify the skin and promote a healthy glow from within.
Long-Term Results: Unlike quick-fix solutions that provide temporary relief, Ayurvedic skin care focuses on addressing the root cause of skin issues to achieve long-lasting results. By restoring balance to the body and nourishing the skin with natural ingredients, Ayurveda promotes healthy, radiant skin that stands the test of time.
Sustainable Practices: Ayurvedic skin care is not only good for your skin but also for the planet. With an emphasis on natural, biodegradable ingredients and eco-friendly packaging, Ayurvedic brands prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Time-Tested Wisdom: Ayurveda is not a passing trend but a time-tested tradition that has been practiced for thousands of years. The efficacy of Ayurvedic skin care is backed by centuries of observation, experimentation, and refinement, making it a reliable and trustworthy approach to achieving beautiful, glowing skin.
In a world where the beauty industry is constantly evolving, Ayurvedic skin care stands out for its timeless wisdom, holistic approach, and commitment to natural healing. In today's fast-paced world, where digital technology permeates every aspect of our lives, accessing mental health support has become more convenient and accessible than ever before. Online therapy, also known as teletherapy or telepsychology, has emerged as a transformative force in the realm of mental healthcare, offering individuals a flexible and convenient alternative to traditional in-person therapy. In this article, we explore the phenomenon of Online Therapy Dubai, its benefits, challenges, and the evolving landscape of digital mental health support.
The Evolution of Online Therapy: Online therapy is not a new concept, but rather an evolution of traditional therapeutic practices facilitated by advancements in telecommunications technology. Initially introduced as a means to reach underserved populations in remote areas, Online Counselling Abu Dhabi has rapidly gained traction in recent years due to its convenience, accessibility, and effectiveness. Today, a plethora of online platforms and mobile apps offer a wide range of mental health services, including therapy sessions, counseling, support groups, and self-help resources, catering to diverse needs and preferences.
Benefits of Online Therapy: The appeal of online therapy lies in its numerous benefits for both clients and therapists. For clients, online therapy offers unparalleled convenience, eliminating the need for travel and allowing sessions to be conducted from the comfort and privacy of one's own home. This accessibility is particularly beneficial for individuals with mobility limitations, busy schedules, or geographical constraints. Moreover, online therapy provides a sense of anonymity and confidentiality, reducing the stigma associated with seeking mental health support and encouraging more people to reach out for help. For therapists, online platforms expand their reach and client base, enabling them to provide services to individuals across different locations and time zones, thereby enhancing their professional flexibility and autonomy.Virtual counselor Abu Dhabi
Effective Treatment Modality: Contrary to misconceptions, numerous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of online therapy in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance abuse disorders. Research indicates that online therapy is as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy in producing positive outcomes and improving psychological well-being. Moreover, certain individuals may find online therapy more conducive to self-disclosure and emotional expression, leading to deeper therapeutic insights and greater engagement in the therapeutic process. Additionally, the use of multimedia tools such as video conferencing, chat messaging, and interactive exercises enhances the therapeutic experience and facilitates more personalized and dynamic interventions.Self-help Abu Dhabi
Challenges and Considerations: Despite its numerous benefits, online therapy is not without its challenges and considerations. One of the primary concerns is the issue of privacy and data security, particularly in light of the sensitive nature of mental health information. It is imperative for online therapy platforms to adhere to stringent privacy regulations and encryption standards to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of client data. Additionally, therapists must be mindful of the limitations of online communication, such as potential misunderstandings, technological glitches, and the lack of nonverbal cues, which may impact the therapeutic process. Furthermore, access to online therapy may be limited by factors such as internet connectivity, digital literacy, and financial constraints, highlighting the need for equitable and inclusive healthcare solutions.
The Future of Digital Mental Health: As society continues to embrace digital technologies and remote services, the future of online therapy looks promising. Advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing hold the potential to enhance the scalability, personalization, and effectiveness of online mental health interventions. Moreover, the integration of virtual reality, augmented reality, and immersive technologies may revolutionize the delivery of therapeutic experiences, creating immersive and interactive environments for virtual therapy sessions and psychotherapeutic interventions. Ultimately, online therapy represents a pivotal shift in the way we approach mental healthcare, offering a flexible, accessible, and effective solution for addressing the diverse needs of individuals seeking support for their mental well-being.
Conclusion: In conclusion, online therapy has emerged as a transformative force in the field of mental healthcare, providing individuals with a convenient, accessible, and effective means of accessing mental health support. With its numerous benefits, including convenience, anonymity, and efficacy, online therapy has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach mental health treatment and support. As digital technologies continue to evolve and society embraces remote services, online therapy is poised to play an increasingly prominent role in promoting psychological well-being and improving access to mental healthcare for individuals around the globe.
