#emotional cruelty; the campaign

Shitty Cape Idea #3: Lady Mondegreen
Fucks with people’s ability to process language and expressed emotion. Rather than creating illusions or messing with the stimuli people receive, she scrambles people’s ability to interpret such stimuli. The specifics of this can depend on how she’s applying her ability: she could focus on messing up processing of others emotions, so that you see others laughs as sneers, interpret all explanations as condescension, etc. Or she could focus more on the language processing and make everything you hear and read get interpreted as word salad: “come to the base” gets heard as “Compton head case,” “between Garey and White” becomes “be seen carrion blight,” etc. By mixing and varying the effect, she can make groups of enemies unable to coordinate and/or suddenly angry and distrustful of one another.
Villain mercenary, often gets employed by villain groups who are expecting large groups to come after them. Triggered as a result of a mass bullying campaign similar to what Taylor faced, one that got its momentum from her not getting that she was being bullied at first, leading to more mockery and obvious cruelty. Felt incredible frustration that all her bullies were so united in hating her (so many of them shouldn’t even have gotten along with each other!), got a power that ensures her enemies are at each others throats.

hey poppy let go of Noeh
at some point yer gonna have to accept that the rape allegations were a toxic way to remain tethered to someone who wanted to leave you
she told you: no more
& you told everyone else.: that’s rape
what you’ve managed to choreograph is sabotage. and your supporters and former supporters play(ed) an integral role in that those DMs that just dropped — they show that actually, IT IS YOU who lacks any regard for consent (& with such ease)
she wanted to be left alone she wanted to get out
she essentially said NO over and over and over
to BOTH you and Zena
she said NO (MORE) in so many different ways WHILE you two tag teamed her into a quiet yes — that is what you call “coming to an agreement”? as if that was not the result of being coerced
sidenote
routine covert threats (read: publicly announced “ideations”) of suicide in connection to conflict (perceived abandonment) is coercion, poppy you’ve been doing that publicly for months. You are dangerous as a partner. The fear doesnt just go away, it becomes baked into the relationship & in these contexts, it is well known that suicide is a sibling to homicide — it’s emotional blackmail, it actually IS a form of emotionally terrorizing someone. Poppy you aren’t the only person who has lost a partner. My former partner actually followed through & shot themself in front of me. They died in my arms. I love them very much. Unconditionally. Forever. I miss them everyday. People should be terrified of this, it is fucking awful and the violence of this form of death is nothing to fuck with. It is what your loved ones are left cleaning up. Literally. AND I can still name what that was. It was coercion. It was emotional blackmail, it was abusive. I happen to know a little bit about this stuff. It’s not BPD, it’s coercion. Stop that. Stop coddling this. It is solely poppy’s responsibility to learn ways to manage that — idc what Zena’s codependency compels her to say. Zena go get treatment for that, codependency is too painful not to address. That shit is not anyone else’s responsibility to manage. You both need to manage your own mental health, that is pretty obvious
——
anyway,
you disregarded her no
zena disregarded her no
over and over and over
she revoked your access to her, bluntly & stood her ground — that was not cruelty, it was self preservation
you no longer had consent to carry on further as her romantic partner
you disregarded that boundary (or as you would say, you didn’t “OBEY” her boundary…tf smh) she wanted to stop she wanted out she said it in countless ways — to YOU zena and to YOU poppy
This is an issue of consent
normalizing a total disregard of consent has deeply embedded roots in rape culture
how can you all not connect the dots?
when someone wants to leave you - when a partner wants to break up and asserts: no more, you have absolutely no right to refuse & reject that choice
Alla this is how i knew you were an abuser, poppy.
it’s dangerous to leave abusers and that danger doesn’t always mean threats of physical violence/death . Lethality in a social context is a very real thing — it’s a common tactic used. The concept of a social death exists & it’s relevant here.
you all joined in. that is how this works. she said NO and poppy claimed RAPE. think about the implications for that with specific regard to what poppy is always speaking about — predatorjacketing trans women. Listen, poppy you know exactly what you’re doing here. Those of you who have joined in on this very calculated smear campaign need to go learn about intimidate partner violence. And consent. Jfc. And how this actually does tie to rape culture, just not in obvious ways. some of us recognized abuser dynamics very early on.
poppy is a seasoned abuser, she gets away with abuse
the audacity - to put an educational spin on this level of spite, haphazardly making weak connections to your (very) rudimentary take on rape culture - just to use your mental health platform to both obscure and reinforce abusing an ex partner who just wanted to LEAVE you
you have no right to disregard someone’s choice to leave
abusers can be so charming, huh?
so many of you got played
used
thingified
Cognitive dissonance is a mother fucker
You've put it so thoroughly and eloquently. I appreciate your lived experience and the insight it brings to this conversation. I hope you are safe and thriving, because that shit is hard. We all suffer in some form, and we have to stay relentlessly open, honest, and clear of mind. Thank you 🧡

Catalyst Headcanons
- 100% vegan and 100% does not shut up about cruelty free alternatives if she ever gets started on a tangent.
- Owns a pet black cat named Cleo who she refers to as her witch familiar. Kitty is very spoiled.
- Loves horror but does not claim that negative energy.
- Pansexual and has some experience with relationships and dating, though not nearly as much as other legends around her age.
- Understands that her spiritualism isn't for everyone and would be with someone who isn't interested, however she would still gush to them about her practices.
- Direct blood relatives weren't supportive over transition, instead views her friends as family.
- Loves 80s music, especially the rock bands. Also adores artists like Prince, Madonna and Tears for Fears.
- Hopeless romantic and devotes so much time to her partner. Writes love poetry and spends her time creating gifts like dreamcatchers.
- Can play multiple instruments, but the keyboard is her ace.
- Tries not to overthink when it comes to "what if"s but constantly finds herself with many sleepless nights due to overthinking how everything could have gone so much differently.
- Introverted. Her idea of being social is sitting around a table with some friends and having some tea or doing some readings, tends to avoid big social events like parties or clubs but will go if a friend is dragging her along.
- Great at dancing if she's in the right mindset, with the right people and if the right song is playing. Otherwise, she rarely dances... Unless she's alone. She dances by herself a lot.
- Incense. Lots and lots of incense. Her room smells like one of those aroma stores.
- Quite tall and still wears heels regardless.
- Will fall in love on the spot if her partner spontaneously ran her a bath and surrounded it with candles as well.
- Avid roleplayer. Probably has/had multiple DnD campaigns with her friends.
- Goes all out on Halloween costumes, helps other people do their makeup and makes her outfit look as realistic as possible.
- Paints portraits and draws doodles to express difficult emotions. Has a private notebook full of vent poetry and drawings.
- Texts very formally, uses full punctuation and rarely ever abbreviates phrases.
- Spends years on her morning routine. Not only does her makeup take years to do, she also has 50 different skincare brands to apply. All of which are cruelty free, of course.

“I never imagined in my wildest nightmares that I would be chasing after a stray dog to retrieve a tiny baby’s leg from its mouth.
Over the past three weeks, Israeli forces have been mercilessly bombing my neighbourhood of Rimal in northern Gaza, resulting in the massive destruction of residential buildings along al-Galaa Street.
In the light of morning, I found the pack of dogs. I was startled to see that one of them had the foot of a small child in his mouth. I chased after him, removed the little boy’s foot and buried it deep in the ground.
I never thought that I would be chasing dogs that were eating the bodies of my neighbours and their children.
On the following day, we found the remains of a child’s spine, bones and chest being eaten by the dogs. I had never seen anything more brutal or shameful, as though there was no value for human life. It was yet another blow in an unending stream of punishment where cruelty is constant and boundless.
We kept trying to drive the dogs away from the area to resume our search for wounded survivors and martyrs buried under the enormous piles of rubble. But even the body parts we found with the dogs had already suffered extreme decay, as their skin was decomposed.
The people became martyrs while their bodies turned into rotting corpses.
Gaza is under constant siege, bombardment and occupation. Its people remain a target of Israel’s genocidal campaign. Throughout the Gaza Strip, it only smells of death, debris and decay."
Source: Middle East Eye
I broke into tears, today, whilst I was in sujood supplicating for my brothers and sisters in فلسطين. These kinds of pieces and articles just send jitters and shockwaves through my sensitive heart. It's an absolutely indescribable feeling where you feel your body seized by agony and anger. It's so important to channel these emotions in the right way - that is by calling upon the Master of this entire universe with sincerity. I hope you're not feeling helpless because He never forgets and does not oversee anything; nothing eludes Him. I hope you're still remembering them in your precious du'as and enlightening others about their plight.

um, hi!
I've been looking into veganism since I was... 10? younger?
and I just wanna talk about my experiences you don't need to add and advice or anything. it's just my experiences, and it's annoying and I don't want to be so ashamed for feeling normal emotions you know?
TW animal abuse, animal death, and other animal cruelty's! I was on the internet in the late 2000s! it was not a nice time to be a child!
okay, since I was little i've seen very very graphic animal death. (which is one of the main reasons I want to be vegan.)
because theres only just so much a small little kid can take of seeing bloodied and gored pets and fish and farm animals before it starts to seep into your nightmares yk!
when I was little. like really little, (to the I was 10-12) I had some BIG food restrictions due to being really really allergic to eggs and dairy and other stuff. but eggs and dairy were big ones, so I've been eating vegan food and also meat all my life which is weird to say the least.
so anyway, I was first introduced to veganism when I was young, but I didn't know the core values of it until MUCH later when I was older.
my first introduction to the ethics side of veganism was peta (I hate peta, I think we all hate them. I can't excuse their fear campaign against autism being autistic myself.)
and through them I learned the horrors of the meat, dairy, egg, leather, fur, and fishing industry.
and I've hated eating meat ever since, and wanted to stop all the suffering and be vegan. but my parents are really against veganism and it SUCKS! :(
but I've always wanted to be vegan for the fish, and the sea creatures which everyone kinda always forgets about. because when I was little I had a fish tank, and the thought of eating fish made me wanna vomit! because it was so morally wrong to 7yr old me.
so, I tried my best. I didn't eat fish for so long and I tried not to eat red meat or anything but when it's either meat or starve and your like 5-8 you take what you can get.
but over the years I lost my way mainly due to life problems, being emotionally and verbally abused since I was tiny, other traumatic event's I don't wanna delve into! !!!
I am not one person in my head. which sucks because they don't think eating meat is bad or unethical, while I'm just having the worst time of my life. to be fair we didn't all know the other existed and we thought we were going CRAZY like it was not a good mental health year for 2019/2021 but now we are talking more and we are not fighting as bad and we are making plans to accommodate all of our conflicting interests at times!
so, how do you live as vegan as possible or live as ethical to animals as possible while the rest of the people in your head struggle to do so due to health reasons and just because they don't hate meat?
because man I tell you! it's NOT fun! but I get by, even though I may be a hypocrite to a lot of vegans. I can't change my head mates minds on this stuff, but at least we have agreed to let me make my own vegan meals in the future and we have a strained agreement to let me have 3 vegan meals a week. which I want it to be more but when your thrown scraps you take it yk?
so, I try my best to educate people on abusive business practices and animal care. and I share as much stuff as I can, but I still feel so awful because I can't be vegan YET hopefully idk.
but I will get there! and when I do I will be so happy.
that's all really, sorry if it's been really topic to topic and hard to follow it's just my writing style.
-your friendly catgirl alter who desperately wants to be vegan
ily!
I can’t speak on your specific mental health issues or anything since I know so little about this, all I can really advise is the same thing I tell anyone whose circumstances mean that they’re not always in control of their own decisions.
When a decision is in your control, you should be choosing the vegan option, whether it’s food, clothes, cosmetics or entertainment. If there are circumstance where you generally have no choice, then you can’t really do anything about that. You can only be held responsible for choices that you freely chose, under your own compulsion.
Seek out the support you need in the meantime if you haven’t already, but while you work on these issues you can only do your best, and you really shouldn’t beat yourself up about that, since doing so will be counterproductive. Focus on your mental health and use the fact that you’re looking forward to eating completely plant-based in future as inspiration for your mental health journey. Best of luck to you anon!

Please share your deranged meta thoughts on chengxian.. please feed me. I am hungry friend.
*cracks knuckles* this is going to end up being a jc apologist post. here we go~
I mean, I know everyone and their uncle has agony feelings about the whole golden core thing. That subplot is the fulcrum on which the Yunmeng Shuangjie turns, from JC getting caught by the Wens (losing his core) to keep WWX safe to WWX giving JC his own core to the postwar reveal at Lotus Pier. And I know it inspires complex emotions in people. And I know people have wildly differing opinions on JC as a person and how his actions reflect on the sort of guy he is, and whether or not he's a good person.
I don't particularly care about a character's morality, so I'm discarding the question of good and evil when it comes to chengxian.
BUT what I do really like is the application of the wangxian "between two people who love each other, there is no need for apologies or thank yous" thing. Because even more than wangxian, that's the sort of ideology that might benefit chengxian. There is just too much to apologize for between the two of them.
Because if you're WWX, what could you even apologize for? For saving your little brother's ability to cultivate when he needed to be sect leader, when he had nothing else in the world that might keep him alive, when you knew it was something you could work around?
You could argue it was the height of thoughtless selfishness that he made that decision for JC and lied to him about it, and maybe you'd be right, but if you were WWX you wouldn't apologize for it either. You might apologize for things that weren't really your fault--the burning of Lotus Pier, for example. Or the death of Jiang Yanli. Apologize for taking up the heretical arts? How could you, when it won the war, saved innocents, and got you your revenge?
And what could JC apologize for? Cruelty? Anger? Careless sacrifice? How could he apologize for any of those things when he just watched his parents be killed and his home burned to the ground in front of his eyes, when he watched his older brother devolve into madness and kill their older sister, whom they both loved and was their only family left in the world? How could he apologize for sacrificing for WWX when WWX could and did do the same?
In the realm of gratitude--there is precious little to be grateful for between the two of them, and simultaneously too much for words. How do you thank someone for giving you your life back at the cost of their sanity, at their chance at immortality, at everything that had made them respected and feared and loved? The question goes for either of them, as WWX and JC made the exact same sacrifice within weeks of each other.
What makes these two fun is that they're unspeakably, bitterly cruel to each other, and so horrendously selfish. I feel that because WWX is the POV character and JC occupies an antagonistic role, you don't get to see this as much in the books. JC's cruelty is loud and obvious and it's so easy to look at him and hate him for it, this powerful man who has thrived because the protagonist sacrificed for him and yet insists on anger and violence and assuming the worst of everyone.
But it's an equally cruel thing to take away a person's autonomy and choice because you think you know what's best for them. It's equally cruel to spiral so far into your own arrogance, your own apathy, that you fail to notice the tides of politics around you shifting. WWX did his best with incredibly limited choices--that's why we love him. But JC's hands were tied as much as his older brother's, if not moreso.
And the most beautiful thing about chengxian, I think, is that they both make crippling mistakes because they are each other's blind spot for so much of the novel. Even before LZ was WWX's everything, it'a JC that WWX trusts above all else--this is clear during the Sunshot campaign and even after. And JC obviously trusts him--he has since childhood, since WWX promised to support him (and isn't that delicious, the broken promises and shattered dreams of the youth?).
Which obviously makes it so fucking painful when JC sees what WWX has wrought pre-siege of the Burial Mounds and goes understandably apeshit.
It also matters how JC shows that, even thirteen years after, he still trusts WWX. He still believes in WWX, and, dare I say it, holds onto the childish belief that his untouchable older brother can carry the day. It's why the scene in Guanyin Temple where JC throws Chenqing to WWX is so goddamn powerful. He brought that flute knowing WWX was the only one who could use it, that WWX might need it, and when they're down to the wire with no options left, JC believes in WWX.
Plus even in CQL canon, JC and WWX reconcile enough that JC visits Gusu to disturb the peace. Chengxian is all the more fun because it's about the power of reconciliation even more than wangxian is, and fundamentally, about forgiveness and the acceptance of the other person's flawed humanity. Which is, in the end, what makes it so compelling.

Everything I needed to know about how awful neurotypical people are to autistic people, I learned from Sandman fan reactions.
This story has actual serial killers, an absolutely unhinged Endless engaged in a millennias-long bullying campaign, and a rapist running around, but your panties are in a twist over a traumatized Endless (yeah, remember that part where he was trapped in a jar for a century?) who isn't sufficiently friendly to your standards? Jesus Christ.
~
Consider the following traits that neurotypical people ascribe as "unlikable" in autistic people: -Blunt -Less, subtler, or different facial expressions, which neurotypicals tend to mistakenly read as "cold" or "emotionless" -Differences in socializing, which might include things like prioritizing interests over socializing
Consider the following traits of Dream of the Endless: -Blunt -Less, subtler, or different facial expressions -Differences in socializing, which might include things like prioritizing what he sees as his duty over social niceties
Am I arguing that Dream is autistic? No. What I am arguing is that most of the arguments people make about Dream being unlikable have nothing to do with him being actually unlikable, and have everything to do with traits that he shares with autistic people. You're just angry that he's not sufficiently friendly and warm to your neurotypical-normative standard.
~
Here's what a possible *coherent* argument for unlikability in Dream looks like: --"Gosh, it sure was cruel to condemn a woman to Hell for 10,000 years, no matter how hurt you might feel." --"Perhaps Dream should put his pride aside and learn to apologize more easily when he's done harm, even if emotions make him uncomfortable."
Meanwhile, here are the *typical* arguments for Dream's unlikability out of the mouths of some Sandman fans:
--"He could have been nicer in how he speaks to Lucienne/Matthew/Johanna." Some people are blunt without meaning to be. Unless you can make a point for actual cruelty, which requires intent, you have no case.
--"He's so cold/emotionless. He didn't even react/barely reacted when Jessamy was killed/he had to uncreate Gregory." He was crying during both. If it wasn't "enough" emotion to suit you, that's on you. So it turns out you're actually the one terrible at reading facial expressions when they don't look the way you think they're supposed to. Then you go about making absurd assumptions about what that person must be feeling or not feeling based on your inability to read them.
--"The characters who accuse him of only caring about his power/job are right." You must have missed the entire bit of character development where it's discussed that caring for the Dreaming is not just his duty, but his function as an entity--largely his identity. This duty is so woven into his being, he's so interested in doing it, that he considers himself inseparable from it. (It's almost like he has a...special interest...in it.) He doesn't care about power; he cares about that duty. You judging his *completely value neutral* priorities is more telling of you than his unlikability. Furthermore, if what you're really angry about is him taking back responsibility from Lucienne now that he's returned, then 1) if it's HOW he did it that annoys you, consider the above point about bluntness and 2) if it's the actual act that bothers you, consider the entire conversation where he explains that he didn't want to burden her with something she shouldn't have to deal with. If you want to turn this into a coherent argument, you'll need to do better; perhaps see the above argument about apologies.
I said it above and I'll say it again: this story has actual serial killers, an absolutely unhinged Endless engaged in a millennias-long bullying campaign, and a rapist running around, but your panties are in a twist over a traumatized Endless who isn't sufficiently friendly to your standards?
Jail for the neurotypicals. Jail for the neurotypicals for 10,000 years.

Alright, time for the most intensive backstory among our party members. Also, brief explanation below of mindbending which is hopefully not as cringe as it sounds at first glance.
------
Name: Chai Li Dong (written as Chinese 拆 chai, “to dismantle”; 力 (lì) meaning "power, capability, influence")
Age: 23
Alignment: True Neutral
Highest stat: Charisma
Bending: Water (technically, subclass mindbending. Only waterbenders can be mindbenders, but mindbenders are generally the worst waterbenders, in the traditional sense, and many never discover what they are due to this. In the same way a powerful waterbender can exert physical control over a person through bloodbending, a skilled mindbender can bend a person's spirit without the water usually required for spiritbending. It requires a person to be incredibly in tune with the thoughts and emotions of the target. It is not mind control, but rather a type of powerful suggestion that manipulates the existing thoughts and emotions of the target. It is not possible to make a target take extreme actions if the seeds of the action are not already there. Most mindbending is just enhancement or suppression of existing emotions. Like traditional waterbending, it requires flexibility.)
Played by: my father-in-law
Background: Representing the Southern Water Tribe, we have Chai Li, a reserved, intelligent, well-spoken young man from a wealthy trading family. Despite his upbringing, he dislikes rich customs and believes in helping the less fortunate. However, he is somewhat naive and was drawn in by Dai Lee's promises of a better world. He was recruited by the Dai Li at a young age to run espionage missions, for which he was never suspected due to his youth. By the time he was a teenager, he was already a well-trusted Dai Li agent and steadily climbed the ranks. Dai Lee himself took Chai Li under his wing, and when the Avatar was captured 10 years prior to the events of the campaign, Dai Li enlisted Chai Li's help in breaking her (until she escaped). As Chai Li bore witness to the cruelty of Dai Lee's methods, he gradually began to have doubts about his allegiance to the Dai Li. The intensity of his doubt reached its peak just before the Summer Conclave, and Chai Li managed to use hypnotism to wipe his own memory of the Dai Li's upcoming grand plan shortly before attending the conclave.
Motivations: Chai Li's original motivation for attending the Summer Conclave was to gather intel for the Dai Li. However, the night after Juno's attack on the conclave, Juno herself broke into the party's quarters and threatened Chai Li, telling him she would give him a chance to switch sides, but had no qualms about killing him next time she saw him. She handed Chai Li a strip of airbender clothing, told him "you know where to find me," and told him to bring the party to her if he was up to the task. Since then he has been working as a double agent against the Dai Li, recovered his lost memories, and is using his clout within the Dai Li to cover the party as they get closer to uncovering the parts of the plan Chai Li was never privy to.

I’m in a daily struggle not to become a shallower version of myself.
I sometimes feel I’m in a daily struggle not to become a shallower version of myself. The first driver of shallowization is technology, the way it shrinks attention span, fills the day with tempting distractions. The second driver is the politicization of everything. Like a lot of people, I spend too much of my time enmeshed in politics — the predictable partisan outrages, the campaign horse race analysis, the Trump scandal du jour.
So I’m trying to take countermeasures. I flee to the arts.
I’m looking for those experiences we all had as a kid: becoming so enveloped by an adventure story that you refuse to put it down to go have dinner; getting so exuberantly swept up in some piece of music that you feel primeval passions thumping within you; encountering a painting so beautiful it feels like you’ve walked right into its alternative world.
The normal thing to say about such experiences is that you’ve lost yourself in a book or song — lost track of space and time. But it’s more accurate to say that a piece of art has quieted the self-conscious ego voice that is normally yapping away within. A piece of art has served as a portal to a deeper realm of the mind. It has opened up that hidden, semiconscious kingdom within us from which emotions emerge, where our moral sentiments are found — those instant, esthetic-like reactions that cause us to feel disgust in the presence of cruelty and admiration in the presence of generosity.
The arts work on us at that deep level, the level that really matters.

King Abdullah II of Jordan's Address at Cairo Summit for Peace on 21 October 2023
“My friends,
Peace, God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
This is how Muslims and Arabs greet others: with a wish for the other to be blessed with peace and the mercy of God.
Our religion came with a message of peace. The Pact of Omar, issued at the gates of Jerusalem almost 15 centuries ago, more than a thousand years before the Geneva Conventions, ordered Muslim soldiers not to kill a child, a woman or an old person, not to destroy a tree, not to harm a priest, not to destroy a church.
Those are the rules of engagement that Muslims must accept and abide by, as should all those who believe in our common humanity. All civilian lives matter!
My Friends,
I am outraged and grieved by those acts of violence waged against innocent civilians in Gaza, in the West Bank, and Israel.
The relentless bombing campaign underway in Gaza as we speak is cruel and unconscionable—on every level.
It is collective punishment of a besieged and helpless people.
It is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
It is a war crime.
Yet, the deeper the crisis cuts of cruelty, the less the world seems to care.
Anywhere else, attacking civilian infrastructure and deliberately starving an entire population of food, water, electricity, and basic necessities would be condemned. Accountability would be enforced, immediately, unequivocally.
And it has been done before—recently, in another conflict.
But not in Gaza. It’s been two weeks since Israel put in place the complete siege of the Gaza Strip. And still, for the most part, global silence.
Yet the message the Arab world is hearing is loud and clear: Palestinian lives matter less than Israeli ones. Our lives matter less than other lives. The application of international law is optional. And human rights have boundaries—they stop at borders, they stop at races, and they stop at religions.
That is a very, very dangerous message, as the consequences of continued international apathy and inaction will be catastrophic—on us all.
My friends,
We cannot let raw emotions dictate the moment; our priorities today are clear and urgent:
First: An immediate end to the war on Gaza, the protection of civilians, and the adoption of a unified position that indiscriminately condemns the targeting of all civilians, in line with our shared values and international law, which loses all value if it is implemented selectively.
Second: The sustained and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, fuel, food, and medicines to the Gaza Strip.
Third: The unequivocal rejection of the forced displacement or internal displacement of the Palestinians. This is a war crime according to international law, and a red line for all of us.
This conflict, my friends, did not start two weeks ago, and it will not stop if we continue down this blood-soaked path. We know all too well that it will only lead to more of the same—a zero-sum game of death and destruction, of hatred and hopelessness played on repeat.
Today, Israel is literally starving civilians in Gaza, but for decades, Palestinians have been starved of hope, of freedom, and a future.
Because when the bombs stop falling, Israel is never held accountable, the injustices of occupation continue and the world walks away, until the next round of violence. The bloodshed we are witnessing today is the price of that, of failing to make tangible progress towards a political horizon that brings peace for Palestinians and Israelis alike.
Israeli leadership must realise that there is no military solution to its security concerns, that it cannot continue to sideline the five million Palestinians living under its occupation, denied of their legitimate rights, and that Palestinians lives are no less valuable than Israeli lives.
The Israeli leadership must realise, once and for all, that a state can never thrive if it is built on the foundations of injustice.
Over the past 15 years, we have seen how the dreams of a two-state solution and the hopes of an entire generation have turned into despair. This has been the policy of hardline Israeli leadership—to focus solely on security over peace and create new illegal realities on the ground that render an autonomous Palestinian state unviable. In the process, it has empowered extremists on both sides.
But we must not—we cannot—write off this conflict as too far gone, for the sake of both the Palestinians and the Israelis.
Our collective and unified message to the Israeli people should be: We want a future of peace and security for you and for the Palestinians, where your children and Palestinian children should no longer live in fear.
It is our duty as the international community to do whatever it takes to restart a meaningful political process that can take us to a just and sustainable peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
The only path to a safe and secure future for the people of the Middle East and the entire world—for the Jewish people, for Christians, for Muslims alike—starts with the belief that every human life is of equal value and it ends with two states, Palestine and Israel, sharing land and peace from the river to the sea.
The time to act is now.”

[moved over from a rage tweet thread, bare with me here] According to a leaked draft, Alito is writing a decision overturning Roe. v. Wade, clearing the way for states legislatures, elected by increasingly small minorities, to outlaw abortion. This decision will kill women. Full stop. The '6 week heartbeat bill' is actually neither. It's a functional all out ban of abortion. For one thing, the ban is NOT from 6 weeks from conception, but 6 weeks after your last period. The deadline is ~4 weeks pregnant, at most only 2 weeks late. You can't even get a pregnancy confirmed in time to schedule an abortion in Texas within that timeframe. For another, the fetal heart does not actually develop until about 20 weeks. Republicans just wanted to play on emotions of voters, not deal in actual facts So if there was something wrong, a fetal abnormality with the heart or the brain? You better hope you live somewhere with laws and doctors who will allow you to make your own decisions in that incredibly difficult time. The safest and least emotionally damaging course might not be available to you, even before this court decision, even if you live in a liberal state. However multiple states will use this decision to ban abortions even in these cases, and even to prevent medical deaths.
You can not discount just how vital abortion rights are to protecting the lives of pregnant patients. While abortion is incredibly safe, Women in America are 250% more likely to die in pregnancy now than when Roe was decided. Black Americans are further 250% more likely to die in pregnancy than White Americans. Pregnancy should be getting safer, not more dangerous, but the emphasis has been placed on fetal protection even over protection of the adult patient. Women have literally died because doctors are afraid to intervene during miscarriages.
We don't talk about how incredibly common miscarriages are, but ~30% of first time pregnancies end in miscarriage. Yet Women are imprisoned for miscarrying, both here & abroad. Republicans claim they're not criminalizing pregnant patients but invariably prosecute women for attempting their own abortions, or for misunderstood miscarriages. That does not even cover the pregnant people who will die trying to obtain abortions when they can't go to a doctor. After the abortion restrictions signed by Rick Perry, it was estimated that 100,000-240,000 women in Texas attempted to self induce by 2015. Do you understand how incredibly dangerous that is? Wealthy women could leave the state for care, but less lucky patients were calling clinics asking what cleaners they could survive drinking. It was heartbreaking & dangerous. & it shouldn't need to be said, but no person should be forced to gestate and birth a human being.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg said it best, "It is essential to woman’s equality with man that she be the decisionmaker, that her choice be controlling, questioning, If you impose restraints that impede her choice, you are disadvantaging her because of her sex.”
To deny a teenager, a mother who can't make ends meet, a medical patient, the ability to make this life altering decision, this life saving decision, between themselves and their doctor is not just amoral, it is cruel, it is heartless. To pretend it wasn't after meaningfully removing their ability to choose to parent though? It's a cruelty in the name of political gain that can not hide behind the religion they claim to speak in the name of.
Because it is, solely in the name of political power consolidation. Roe was decided 7-2 in 1973, with five Republican appointees joining the decision. Through the 60s abortion was seen as a fringe issue protestant voters were unconcerned with. Republicans needed something to replace racialized hate on the campaign trail, and manufactured outrage for their voters. As a governor Reagan loosened abortion restrictions in 1967, but he called for the appointment of anti-abortion judges in 1980 to run for president.
So what do we do? In 2022, 50 years later, how do we support the people in our country? We can get sad, but then we need to get mad. They need to taste the full fury of 160 million women rising together. Operating in both the short direct small scale & the large national stage.
For yourselves and your loved ones. Order emergency contraception, NOW. http://nurx.com is one place to get it. Keep some ella or equivalent on hand for you and the women you care for. (Plan B is less effective in women 160 lbs and over, so get ella). If you can, obtain abortion medications such as misoprostol. medication abortions are 95% effective when taken within the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. The risks, including those attributable to ectopic pregnancy are less than 1%. States have been banning the mailing of these pills but not because it is unsafe, simply to force impoverished women to continue unwanted pregnancies. Don't wait until the zip code lottery to get worse, order these medications now. Go out and protest. #shoutyourabortion story. make the people in your life hear you. and VOTE please for all our sakes, vote. and convince them to as well. The midterm elections - but also your local state elections - have never mattered more.
If abortion is not effectively protected by our constitution, republican legislatures can ban abortion in your state and a republican congress could pass abortion restrictions nation wide. We need to speak up, we need to say no to online propaganda.
We need to elect sane people. Our lives depend on it.

"She Is A Manipulative Bully"
Ben Goldsmith claims Meghan Markle is disliked in Britain NOT because of racism but ‘because she is a manipulative bully who got found out’
Ben Goldsmith, who held a governmental role and whose brother Zac is a current Government minister, made the allegations online in a series of extraordinary Tweets this morning
Mr Goldsmith claimed Meghan was 'a manipulative bully who got found out’, although other Tweets were deleted
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have consistently denied bullying allegations, which were dismissed as calculated smears and falsehoods
By DAN SALES FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 07:34 EDT, 21 September 2022 | UPDATED: 09:14 EDT, 21 September 2022
Financier Ben Goldsmith claims Meghan Markle is disliked because she is a 'manipulative bully’.
Mr Goldsmith - who is the brother of minister Zac - made a number of allegations in a series of messages online in response to claims the Duchess was a victim of racism.
One of the three was deleted quickly but the claim Meghan had been unkind is still visible.
Mr Goldsmith - who was a non-executive board member of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - said: 'We are far from perfect, but poll after poll shows British people to be among the most welcoming and the least racist anywhere.
'At the start Meghan was adored. Crowds thronged the streets at the wedding. Meghan is disliked because she is a manipulative bully who got found out.
'Meghan has come to personify the arrival of America’s deranged culture wars in Britain. ’
The Duchess of Sussex has been dogged by allegations of bullying, but has always strenuously denied them.
In June Buckingham Palace said it 'revised’ its HR policies in the wake of a report into allegations of bullying by Meghan.
But it added it would never publish the investigation, with a source claiming at the time: 'The household seems to be terrified of upsetting or provoking Harry and Meghan.’
Allegations emerged 18 months ago following complaints by staff during a 'toxic period’ before the couple emigrated in early 2020.
'Broken’ royal aides told of feeling humiliated, 'sick’, 'terrified’, left 'shaking’ with fear, and being reduced to tears.
Meghan was accused of having inflicted 'emotional cruelty’ on her staff and 'drove them out’. One branded the Sussexes 'outrageous bullies’.
Lawyers for the Sussexes vehemently denied the couple bullied or mistreated staff allegedly between late 2018 and early 2020.
Meghan then accused the of 'perpetuating falsehoods’ about her and Harry in their interview with Oprah Winfrey that was released hours after the allegations emerged in March 2021.
Royal aides announced in March last year that they were launching an inquiry into claims that Meghan’s ‘belittling’ behaviour while a working member of the Royal Family drove two female personal assistants out of the household and ‘undermined the confidence’ of a third.
Staff were said to have been left in tears and feeling ‘traumatised’ – with some likening their condition to having post-traumatic stress.
The Royal Household employed a third-party law firm, paid for by the family privately, to probe the claims in a move that some predicted could increase tensions between Harry and Meghan and ‘the institution’.
The allegations have always been strongly denied by the duchess, whose lawyers described them at the time as a ‘calculated smear campaign’. They did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.
Last year a palace spokesman made clear that the specifics of the allegations – which were brought to the attention of senior household staff at the time by Harry and Meghan’s concerned press secretary, Jason Knauf – would not be probed.

Cruelty to Queen Camilla by u/narcwatchkiwi
Cruelty to Queen Camilla One of the things I have found objectionable is the Harkle's cruelty towards Queen Camilla.Recent revelations about the emotional impact on Queen Camilla of Harold's horrible smear campaign/book have really illustrated how cruel the Harkles behaviour has been, and how she has been hurt by this.I think the ageist and sexist stereotyping of Queen Camilla as the 'wicked stepmother' is absolutely disgraceful. This horrible cliche does real harm. Harold accused her of 'leaking' stories to the press, and claiming that she was 'dangerous' and that she had 'sacrificed him on her PR altar' etc. with this imagery - of a witch harming a child on a witches altar - Harold is actually using his male privilege here, and invoking the 'evil stepmother' myth is also using a stereotype associated with 'witches' - older women, often knowledgeable and clever, who were seen as threatening and subjected to genocides for hundreds of years, and these attitudes still affect women today. Genuine feminism needs to embrace all women - including and especially older women, strong and independent women, and celebrate the humanity of women, instead of either setting out a strict 'feminine' stereotype and demonizing any woman who steps out of line.Look, I think Camilla is a human being, she does a lot of charitable work now to prevent domestic violence, and I really like her wonderful book club, the 'Queen's Reading Room'. I also think she is very stylish!Queen Camilla looking fabulousI'm utterly sick of the way she was negatively compared to Diana, and as if she (Camilla) was the first person in history to ever have an affair. Diana had a long laundry list of lovers, including married men, whose wives weren't too happy about it. Charles even provided Diana with a luxurious lifestyle, and a house that she could live in with her numerous lovers. It's sad that Diana never managed to find lasting love, and that she died early in life, but she and Charles clearly just weren't suited in terms of personality, so somehow blaming Camilla is really missing the point - they just weren't compatible. Camilla was completely vilified in the press, and at one point was pelted with bread rolls in a supermarket.Look - I'm a quite romantically conservative person, so I think if I can not care whether Camilla had an affair with Charles I hope other people can get over it. Charles and Diana also had affairs, and it really is ancient history, and King Charles and Queen Camilla are obviously happy together and better suited, they always seem to be laughing together, and have the same hobbies (e.g. horses) and interests. Queen Camilla is smart, well read, kind, funny and practical. She's doing some good work to eliminate violence and misogyny towards women. I think any (genuine) feminist would appreciate that!Queen Camilla, looking beautiful. post link: https://ift.tt/N5m4A7y author: narcwatchkiwi submitted: September 01, 2023 at 04:19AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

💋🍑🌳 for Riag!
@mystery-salad
Ty for the ask! Grump hours ahoy!
💋 How affectionate are they with their friends? Their family? Their romantic partner(s) (if they have any)? Are they more physical or emotional when it comes to displaying their affection? Why?
Riag's sort of done the whole loop in terms of affection. Originally, he was a very physically affectionate person with both friends, family, and partner. Very much a hugger or casual touch person. Then the big oof that is HoT happened and he became touch and motion sensitive so all of his natural physically affectionate traits got buried. However, a large part of that was that he didn't really have anyone to be affectionate with. He is slowly but surely getting more comfortable being a little physically affectionate now. Baby steps but at least he's not about to start swinging on impulse or freeze and be overwhelmed with panic if something so much as brushes against him. He's an emotional person but not so much in how he expression his love for others - words are not his forte he'd much rather show.
🍑 Where is your OC’s favourite place to relax or calm down? Recount a story of their time spent in this place! What makes it so special to them?
Is there anywhere your OC hates to go to? Anywhere that stresses them out or have negative memories of?
It would have to be the Omphalos Chamber, and hanging out with the Avatar of the Pale Tree. He's always had a good relationship with the Tree and views her very much as a supportive maternal figure. Even though his connection to the Dream has gotten weaker since his mental break, it's still there and being close to her makes it more noticeable. His own thoughts, his failed Hunt, and then just general mental health struggles, seem less loud when he is up there with her. He has gone there many a time when the world feels too sharp or his own thoughts turn against him. Riag's also gone there for happier tidings, he would tell her of the Pact's victories and his own accomplishments. Despite it all, the Pale Tree is his Mother.
There are a lot of places that would stress him out that are obviously from the Maguuma Campaign (primarily Dragon's Stand and Verdant Brink), but on a more practical level Rata Sum. He's not always the easiest to get along with and stubborn personality + Asura personality do not mesh well. It's always lingered in the back of his head what they did to the Secondborn and how quickly they can turn their intellect into cruelty if fancy strikes them.
Plus, I mean, the city is just kinda of floating and that unnerves him a bit. He prefers to be on the ground or in supporting boughs of the Grove, thank you very much.
🌳 Compare your OC to themself from 10 years ago. How has their mental state changed since then, how have they aged and grown up? Would they say they’re in a better place than they were back then or do they need help? What advice would they give their younger self? What advice would their younger self give to them now?
Oh boy. Oh boy. Riag has grown up a lot, but not always in ways that are positive. He used to be a realist with a strong faith in 'anything is possible if you just try hard enough/work your ass off/get the right approach'. That has all but shattered, he's now a pessimist. He expects things to fail and go south on him, he expects heartbreak and death at any given moment. Does he need help? Absolutely. Is he going to get it? Nope. He'd refuse on principal and not get anything out of it.
I've actually sat with him about 'what advice would you give your younger self' and he's mostly just venomous to his past self. He thinks very poorly of the younger version of him for being so confident, so proud, and so naive. If anything he'd just be after himself to work harder, triple check plans, and put in more effort. Riag very easily forgets that he was already putting in 100% effort when he was younger, but still considers it now - not enough.
Baby Riag would not have anything to say to current Riag, he'd be too shocked at the change. Plus they both know they don't take advice from others.

Recently Viewed: The Legend & Butterfly
[The following review contains MAJOR SPOILERS; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!]
Tumblr media
Near the end of The Legend & Butterfly—a lavish period epic produced to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of Toei—the plot appears to take an unexpected turn into outright historical revisionism reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Oda Nobunaga—grievously injured, cornered by traitors, trapped in a burning temple—forlornly reflects on the lifetime of cruelty that led to his impending demise. Suddenly, he glimpses a minor miracle: a few flimsy floorboards, easily pried loose to reveal a hidden passage. Defying his preordained fate, he escapes from his enemies, reunites with his wife, and stows away on a ship bound for Europe. After an arduous journey, the warlord gazes upon foreign soil; at long last, he’ll be able to realize his dream of peace, tranquility, and anonymity alongside the woman he loves.
But this idyllic vision abruptly fades, the warm glow of the sunset dissolving into the blazing glare of the flames that still surround him. There was no secret tunnel, no desperate ride back to his fortress, no westward voyage; it was all just a fantasy akin to The Last Temptation of Christ—a false hope conjured by the delusional mind of a vanquished conqueror.
Tumblr media
Although this double subversion isn’t entirely without merit—indeed, it’s one of the only legitimately interesting creative choices in an otherwise generic jidaigeki—it’s also emblematic of the film’s overall indecisiveness. The relationship between the title characters, for example, often feels contrived, inorganic, and underdeveloped; because the structure is so disjointed (leaping forward several years at a time at seemingly random intervals), the “gradual” evolution of their marriage from political union to mutually beneficial military partnership to genuinely affectionate romance lacks connective tissue—and, consequently, emotional authenticity. The tone is likewise wildly inconsistent, chaotically careening from slapstick comedy and screwball banter to gory bloodshed and overwrought melodrama with little rhyme or reason; balancing humor and horror is a delicate tightrope act, and director Keishi Otomo frequently stumbles.
The movie’s central theme—its most compelling hook—is, unfortunately, equally muddled. The premise revolves around the thesis that Nobunaga’s bride—who is traditionally relegated to a mere footnote in written accounts of his campaign to unify Japan—was actually a hugely influential figure in his reign, nurturing his violent ambition (à la Lady Macbeth) and sculpting him from a buffoonish, pampered thug into a fierce warrior, charismatic leader, and cunning tactician. It is therefore utterly tragic that she slowly loses any semblance of agency as the narrative unfolds, ultimately spending the last hour of the story ill and bedridden. She was previously depicted as such a strong, independent, uncompromising heroine; she refuses to be silenced and marginalized, blatantly and unapologetically challenging the misogynistic attitudes of the Sengoku Era. It is thus a shame to see her reduced to a passive prop in her husband’s conflict.
Tumblr media
I don’t mean to imply that The Legend & Butterfly is irredeemably bad; the production design is absolutely spectacular, and the performances are generally solid. Because its flaws are so fundamental, however, its strengths are greatly diminished. Unlike its iconic subject, it simply doesn’t leave much of an impression.
