I'm having memories back from a LONG ago of an TF Prime AU that I made where Optimus was Empurata for agreeing with Megatron but he still retained his old self...
I think that Senator Shockwave remained as his IDW self but I don't remember if Orion got the Matrix or created the Autobots.
This is a sketch I did a long time ago but I never expanded on it XD
hi
Girlie (in a very gender-neutral way), you need to expand on this and I can try to help you.
I feel like I saw this concept before. I don't know why I didn't even continue with this take. This is so good.

Pausing my nap to say that Nova Prime is a little bitch who died begging for his life and was a really underwhelming villain for how ~big~ his return was supposed to be. At least Galvatron managed to be actually cool, funny, and unique. Nova was just a little bitch that lost a one-on-one fist fight with Optimus. I would throw him in the horse plinko/send him to superhell but he's too pathetic for even that.

Going off the last few asks, how would you alter MTMTE shockwave not necessarily to fit into TEG, but be more like a character instead of an empty shell? What kind of character development would you give him? How would you make him better?
ah ok so to answer this, which I am probably going to fail to do to be honest, I need to write out some stuff
MTMTE Shockwave was a fine character. he wasn't an empty shell at all: he was a Senator with a face and a color-changing hobby who groomed (?) Optimus Prime in some capacity that I never fully understood. he was vocal about... stuff... against the current regime (pre-war senate), and therefore was horrifically punished with the empurata procedure. his head and hands were removed so that he looked like his G1/usual design.
so, I wanna be clear that MTMTE Shockwave (which you specifically mentioned) is fine. the rest of the stuff IDW did with him was incredibly confusing. I didn't read all those comics, but it was something like: Shockwave traveled back in time and established himself as a god and then ??? and then he was a senator and then he got empurata'd and then he went back in time. also at some point he sent a bunch of magical ores out to different planets. IDW somehow wrote it so that Shockwave was, like, responsible for all of the major milestones of the IDW universe in regards to TF. or something. honestly, like I said, I found it incredibly and unnecessarily confusing
if you happen to know what shockwave did and you feel like replying to this or reblogging with the answer, go ahead, but please know, and I mean this in the kindest way possible, I don't care xD they couldn't make me understand it the first time and it's too late to appreciate it now. again, it is a respectful apathy, lol.
so I'mma re-imagine your question to be "how would you alter IDW shockwave... What kind of character development would you give him? How would you make him better?"
and to that I say... I'm honestly really tired, lol. ok ok I'll try. uh. so, IDW had a specific and (apparently) long-entrenched plan for him. he's a huge part of that universe. entwined with the fabric of its reality. what you're asking for is a very big question: what does Shockwave do? and the answer is like... infinity. there are a ton of things one could do. what would I do? I can't help but take this question very seriously, and that's why I mention the fact that IDW had a big plan for him. how could I have changed him and kept aligned with the canon? is that an important part of what you're asking?
if I'm not making any sense right now, I guess an equivalent would be: this pound of ground beef was made into a burger. what would you have done with it instead? and my answer is 1) I don't eat beef so uhhhh, and 2) are we at McDonalds? are we still adhering to the burger-ness? Or can I make something completely different, like stew? I prefer chicken: can I use that instead?
did that make any sense at all xD
ok ok but let's just say I don't have to fit Shockwave into the larger IDW universe. I can do whatever I want with him
again it's hard for me to answer because Shockwave works in conjunction with other characters. what is Megatron doing? what resources does Shocky have available to him? where is he? are we pre-war?
maybe the faster thing to do is tell you what I wouldn't do: I wouldn't have him time travel back in time and become a god and then ??? and then ??? and then be a senator.
maybe I'd concentrate on the senator aspect. maybe I'd take him in a different direction after the empurata. I think it'd be more fun to explore him with clearly-defined goals after empurata. maybe the empurata wouldn't work perfectly: he'd still care about some things. maybe he'd be himself, but really fucked up, like how in stories when people die and come back, they come back wrong. maybe I'd brave some Shock/OP and make you all cry until your tear ducts burned, with the yearning and the loss and the visceral pain of what Shockwave was forced to endure. Remember me as I was is fucking hardcore.
sorry, I realize this answer is really long and possibly a pain in the ass to read. I have a brain that sees infinity and worldbuilds until it eats itself, so it's hard for me to narrow down an answer for you on the fly. I hope something here was entertaining or interesting, and if you want to narrow down the parameters in a further ask, I can hopefully give a better answer

Hiya, hope ya don't mind me asking, but I was wondering if someone could be shadow played without undergoing empurata? Sorry if this seems out of the blue but it's been in my head for a while
Absolutely! And we know this because we have an example: this is what it turns out was done to Red Alert. This is revealed in the Titans Return MTMTE issues. He was shadowplayed the whole time, even when we saw him in pre-war flashbacks in the Shadowplay arc itself. (He's shown with the scars.)
Shadowplay and empurata don't actually get linked in canon usually. One is a psy-ops kinda thing, the other is public humiliation as punishment. So they're not actually related procedures. But the instinct to link them probably comes about because Shockwave is the most shocking (hah) example of either, and they specifically did both to him. That was just because they wanted to really make an example of him; it wasn’t the norm in-universe!

Here's an au where the senate kidnapped and removed Optimus's voice box a la empurata
Tw: Mutilation and discussions of trauma
As soon as Heatwave pulled him from the flooded river, Optimus knew he was doomed. He could feel the water in his mask, which would be mildly unpleasant if he was Heatwave, but was potentially live threatening to Optimus. If something damaging got into his voice box - no, no time to panic - just follow Heatwave, use the radio backup, and duck into the wash rack as soon as possible.
He transformed and followed Heatwave out of the danger zone, the flood redirected by the levee Optimus just fell off of.
They made it back to the firehouse, and Optimus couldn't help the horrible grinding, choking noise that came out as water leaked from his battle mask. He ran through the door, past Blades, who was setting up a systems check, routine after a submersion, and dunked into the bot sized wash rack, locking the door behind him.
He retracted his battle mask and took a catheter out of his subspace, fumbling with the sterile wrapper. He finally got it open and stuck it in a drainage port on the side of his prosthetic. He attached a plastic syringe to it and sucked out all the water from the tiny tank meant for this purpose. There was still water after the first syringeful, but after the third, the catheter pulled up nothing. Unfortunately, he still could feel wetness inside his neck and the back of his throat. It would all have to come out.
Optimus struggled to find the hidden latches at first, not used to doing this completely by himself, but he eventually got it, opening his neck and removing what remained of his ruined voice box and the attached prosthetic. He finally allowed himself to look into the mirror, at his missing lower jaw, chipped and broken dentae, and gaping nothingness of his mouth and upper jaw without the prosthetic. He focused on cleaning the polluted water out of his voice box. He started taking it apart, removing the screens of the main speaker that projected his fabricated voice.
He disconnected the original pieces from the fabricated ones, looking for any loose wires, burst welds, or fried components. To his relief, the waterproofing of the container with the more fragile pieces stayed intact. It was the actual speaker itself that needed the most attention.
His plans to take things slowly was destroyed by Blades overriding the door locks and rushing to his side, audibly gasping at the scarring on Optimus's face. Optimus ignored him as he fussed, taking out some cotton swabs and a gentle cleaner and cleaning out the bolt holes just under his nose. They always got gummed up with gunk, the metal permanently pierced and gunmetal gray and dead.
He checked that there wasn't any more cracking on his nose, the metal fragile and irritated from constant rubbing on his battle mask.
The battle mask is essential. He didn't want to spend his days explaining over and over again that he doesn't want a full jaw prosthetic, just the voice box. No, the old bolt holes are fine. He couldn't drink like that anyway, with the speaker. He shuddered as he remembered the feeling of Megatronus holding him down while Ratchet clipped the bolts attaching the heavy rectangular mask, branded with the Functionalist seal, to his face. He remembered choking on a fragment of one of the bolts, Ratchet shoving his hand in the mass of crudely cut and sealed wires and hastily rerouted energon lines to keep him from drowning in his own energon. By then, they had made it to Ratchet's illegal clinic. He was put into stasis as soon as he arrived and taken into the operating room to repair the damage. He couldn't get help from a legal hospital, the brand barring him from care by anyone except illegal clinics and council approved and supervised medics.
Blades insisted on bringing him back out into the main garage, telling him that he would need to run diagnostics anyway, and he wasn't going to do that in the damp wash rack.
"Optimus, may I ask what happened to you?" Cody said, staring at the disassembled pieces of Optimus's speaker in his careful hands.
Optimus paused his cleaning, and closed his eyes briefly before opening them again as Blades plugged himself into the medical port on his wrist. "Before the war, I advocated for necessary changes to unjust systems that threatened the people in charges' access to absolute power, and they tried to silence me by any means necessary." The room sat in silence as Optimus continued to tinker with his prosthetic.
"You were an activist?" Charlie asked, his eyes wide at the implications.
"Yes, I was an activist under a government where peaceful protest was illegal, punishable by mutilation or death. The Functionalists didn't keep prisoners, political or otherwise. I took their cruelty as a sign that our efforts were working. It doesn't matter. Within a few decades, they had been overthrown and the civil war that destroyed our home started in earnest." He got up and disconnected Blades from his wrist, calling Ratchet for a ground bridge. It opened in a side wall, and Optimus walked through it.
He felt… numb. He didn't want to give out as much information as he did, but the idea of having to deflect questions over and over and over again until it all spiraled out of control made him want to lock himself in his room and never leave.
He walked into the medbay, and First Aid got him settled in a private room with a fake window, a cube of energon, a warm blanket, and reassurances that Ratchet was on the way before he could open his mouth to speak.
He sat on the bed now, the energon finished, fighting the urge to fall asleep. Knowing Ratchet, he would turn off Optimus's pain receptors, do the repairs while he was asleep, and leave him to rest for as long as he could get away with it under the guise of Optimus being under observation.
He finally decided to just sleep, and he shut down as soon as his head hit the padding.
He woke up to Ratchet testing his speaker, the differently pitched tones echoing in the tiny room.
"Optimus, everything looks fine, but I want you on vocal rest for the next few days."
Optimus tapped out Affirmative on Ratchet's wrist. Ratchet put his tools aside to be sanitized and insisted on helping Optimus stand.
They went back to Optimus's room, and Optimus took a book he had been meaning to get to off one of his shelves and sat on his bed. Ratchet left him to read, and Optimus sighed.
He never intended on telling the Rescue Bots what the council had done to hum, but now that he did, it felt like a weight was off his shoulders. He started to read, and the stress of the day rolled off him as he lost himself in his book.

dude i had some kind of dream. it was a mix between like TFP and IDW. this guy was ripping Shockwave to shreds like pulling his guts out and stuff. and later Optimus and Arcee infiltrate the guy's base and Arcee goes "he turned Shockwave into his DOG" and yeah there was Shockwave. being a robot dog
meanwhile Galvatron had been empurata'd and was hanging out with these two other empurata guys named Silvershot and Head Cannon who were obsessed with each other (Head Cannon kept calling Silvershot beautiful) and they were about to go help Op and Arcee rescue Shockwave
what felt like a full two minutes of the dream was dedicated to me watching a looping gif of Nova Prime being eaten by scraplets. it was drawn and animated really well
this probably means something but fuck if i know what

I feel like this is really rather fluffy, but I love Megatron and his literal Unicronspawn.
Megatron isn't the only one utterly baffled by his sudden motherhood. But while Megatron quickly adapts to his changed circumstances, the others? Not so much.
Galvatron is vicious. While Megatron has the plating to withstand his love bites, and in his case it really is love bites. Galvatron is definitely a bit of a mama's boy. But the other crewmembers don't have the same protection. They quickly learned to stay out of reach for those tiny but sharp teeth.
Galvatron has learned not to bite Soundwave, his "uncle". If he bites, he doesn't get thrown around with Soundwave's datacables, which might be one of his favourite things.
But then I guess his existence is somehow revealed to the Autobots? And the war is put on hold, because Galvatron is the first sparkling in a very, very long time. Nobody wants to risk harm coming to him.
He dislikes Optimus Prime a lot. Hisses and screeches when he sees him. Even Megatron was surprised at his reaction.
(It's the Unicron in him.)
So... the war is put on hold. How, exactly? I'd argue that, now that he has a sparkling to think about, Megatron would be all the more inclined to dig in his heels and refuse to cooperate with the autobots. He can't trust that any system they put in place wouldn't immediately devolve into more oppression and segregation (looking at you, RID 2015 😒), and he refuses to let Galvatron grow up branded as someone else's property and taught that he's less-than just because of his alt mode. He'd rather his son grow up safely in the Nemesis in the midst of war then on a peaceful Cybertron with the threat of slavery hanging over his helm
Granted, maybe the autobots are the one to suggest it, and the matrix Optimus is finally willing to concede their demands to the right of self governance and total abolishment of empurata, shadowplay, mnemosurgery, slavery, etc. The first sparkling born without the Allspark is a huge deal, after all, and if they were to kill Megatron now the precious newspark would likely follow, unable to survive the shattering of his carrier-creation bond.
Assuming that the autobots do actually agree to their conditions to start working toward a peace treaty, Megatron is incredibly vigilant. Watches Galvatron like a hawk, 24/7, because he doesn't trust the other side not to try using his baby as a bartering chip. That often means bringing Galvatron with him to neutral locations for their conversations of peace, because really, where is he safer than tucked in Megatron's arms? Baby is very loud and angy the first time he meets Optimus, making unholy shrieking and possibly even launching himself at the other's face. Megatron has never been so proud than the moment he had to pry a kicking, biting, scratching, hissing Galvatron off of his arch-nemesis's face
His direct reaction was literally That's My Boy :') especially when he saw all the little claw marks on poor OP's mask 🤭

IDW Shockwave for the ask meme
Give me a character and I will tell you:
-How I feel about this character
I love IDW Shockwave! I love when Shockwave is allowed to do his own thing, apart from the other Decepticons, in any continuity. Don’t make any goddamn sense what he’s doing, but he’s vibing. That’s my bitch right there!
-All the characters I ship with this character
I love ShockOP for the drama, but in an, “it’s in the past, but Optimus still isn’t over it,” sort of way.
-My non-romantic OTP for this character:
I don’t really have one? I like Shockwave because he’s more of a lonewolf sort of character. He does what he does because HE thinks it’s right and he doesn’t really give a thought toward other people. I guess, in a pre-Empurata world, I think his relationship with the outliers at the institute was interesting and I wish we would have seen more of that.
-My unpopular opinion about this character
Hmmm…I kind of like the fact that even after regaining his memories in Dark Cybertron, and experiencing remorse for the first time, he still comes to the conclusion that he pretty much has to finish what he started. I think he realized that no matter what, he could never erase all the horrible things he’s done and the best way to rectify that was to see his plan to fruition.
-One thing I wish had happened with this character in canon
A part of me wishes that Shockwave was the one who got to join the Lost Light instead of Megatron (a very small part, the larger part of me really wanted Soundwave and Megatron’s story arcs to be reversed but that’s another post). I think, if they wanted to go that route, Shockwave is the one character who was more deserving of redemption, if only because he was a victim of circumstance. Then again, maybe that’s why OP turned out the way it did: Shockwave was still a living, consenting entity while under Shadowplay, who simply lacked a moral compass. He did what he did under free will.
-My OTP
Shockwave/His Lack of Morals, power couple
-My crossover ship
Don’t really have one?
-A Headcanon fact
I like to think that Shockwave’s vanity is something that stuck with him, even after being Shadowplayed. Not in a, “I have to look beautiful,” sort of way, but in a, “I have to be at my top performance,” sort of way, so he’s constantly upgrading himself or doing maintenance on himself. And he only trusts himself working on his body, he won’t let anyone else touch him.

does your muse have any scars? if so, what is the most notable one?

BODY HEADCANON QUESTIONS || accepting
if your muse could change one thing about their appearance, what would it be?
In most verses, Shockwave is indifferent to his appearance. It means little to him. He does not find himself unattractive, but he also doesn't find himself anything special to look at. If you compliment him, he will just stand there awkwardly and not know how to respond lol. What matters is how practical he is for his job.
At times, he likely wishes he has two hands. Honestly, he's one of the smartest mechs in the world and he doesn't just... have a transforming hand back to gun mode like MOST of them do in TFP and that seems so redundant >.< Logic behind that? Nothing outside of the fact that it's a signature thing for Shockwave's character :'D At times, I feel like just hc that Shockwave DOES have two hands, because why can't he have a hand AND a gun like Op does? Like KO does with his blade? All of them have weapons installed in them, so why can't Shockwave? For now, I'm just going to go with the Alligned FoC Grimlock ate my arm off. (:
As for IDW Shockwave? That's a whooooole different bag to unpack. At first, he didn't care because he was stripped of emotions enough to care. However, post war, Shockwave considers himself to look a monster. To look the criminal they'd wanted him to look. And he finds that disgusting. If anyone could call him attractive, he'd think it's a lie. He knows he is hideous because that's what they wanted, especially know just how handsome he was before the empurata (shhh Shockwave, you're still handsome af).
He would change everything about himself to be back to the mech he was before the empurata, but he doesn't because it's a reminder of what happened to him, also a reminder for him to never fall down the path he had as a Decepticon who was going to destroy the world as we all know it.
does your muse have any scars? if so, what is the most notable one?
Shadowplay leaves scars. Shockwave has those on his processor and at his neck. They might not go noticed to the untrained optic, but they are there and they very much exist. You might just see Shockwave idly tracing his fingers over the back of his neck, and that's why.
He has scars all over his body because of the empurata. Like in my previous post, I mentioned they were rough with him, and it shows beneath his armour. Everything was melded back roughly and it can cause pain for Shockwave at times.
Other than that, I wouldn't say anything outside of a few battle scuffs here and there that can't be fixed and tended to.

Was reading the only other OP/whirl fic to exist and was having some thoughts on if you feel Whirl would be a stand in for the emptura victim OP couldn’t save (shockwave)? I don’t feel it’s above OP’s self righteousness to believe one translates for the other in terms of just minimally being able to do “right” by them.
Mmmmm quite honestly that doesn't make much sense to me. There's really no link between Whirl and Shockwave besides being empuratas and even then they still look completely different and Whirl feels very different over the whole thing than Shockwave (because the later can't feel).
Besides, Optimus knew Whirl before Shockwave so he was already a established individual in his mind and more importantly, the Shockwave Orion knew and loved and tries to do right by looked and acted completely different.
The way I think of whirlop, one spect of their relationship already is that Whirl is a sort of conceptual stand in in that if he gets better under the right circumstances, Optimus can have hope for anyone. And in my fic I imply Whirl thinks Optimus is thinking of Megatron, who, I think, is a better parallel to Whirl as they are both violent people who craked under state violence.
I suppose, Shockwave's whole deal could emphasize OP's feelings of pity towars the empurata, but I don't think is of any particular notice compared to all the other heavy factors that weight on their relationship.

the most annoying shock/ops are the ones who are like “well shockwave can go back to NORMAL and be with optimus and everything will be fine!”. guys. guys. post-empurata/shadowplay shockwave is not abnormal. there are people in real life who think with logic rather than emotions. who suppress any emotion that escapes because they view it as a weakness. and saying those things are abnormal is so SO telling of how you view people like that in real life. it’s WHY we pretend to have feelings! it’s WHY we lie and say we understand how you feel when we really fucking don’t!
FICTION AFFECTS REALITY. EMOTIONLESSNESS/NEARLY EMOTIONLESS CHARACTERS BEING TREATED AS ABNORMAL AFFECTS THE PERCEPTION OF REAL LIFE EMOTIONLESS/NEARLY EMOTIONLESS PEOPLE

Rocky: "Damn. Can't believe someone outdid me with Unicron. What about Optimus? Honestly, I'm only really suggesting him for shock value-slash-funsies."
Right after Senator Shockwave was subjected to empurata, he told Orion Pax that there was no point in continuing their relationship.
Orion fell in with Megatron and Megatron was also involved with Soundwave and me. Orion also really liked Soundwave.
The upshot of this is: I have been in bed with the mech who became Optimus Prime in my universe, and we never fucked each other.
We kissed once. You ever seen that thing they do in movies where two people kiss each other and they try to kiss passionately, fail at it and then look at each other like 'well that was a big mistake' and sometimes even wipe their mouths?
That was me and OP. Honestly, we never even liked each other, we put up with each other for the sake of the other two. The first time I ever met Orion, he was trying to arrest me for tagging and I emptied half a can of spray paint into his optics before I scampered.
Now...there are two Orions/Optimi I've met here that I'd consider getting down with, but they are nothing like the Optimus/Orion of our universe. They aren't even cops. ACAB and my sister who was a cop for a few million years will be the first to tell you so.

With regards to post-war ShockOP, while I do understand the sentiment of Shockwave remaining an empurata since OP loves him no matter what he looks like, I feel like having Shockwave be fixed works for two reasons:
One, empurata is a procedure that can be fixed because there's at least one character (maybe more I can't remember) who gets his hands and face back (Damus/Tarn), and Shockwave even gets one hand back with a cannon on the other.
Two, I feel like Shockwave getting to switch back to his old body is actually really important because, well, Shockwave as he was was very vain and cared a lot about his appearance, obviously putting a lot of effort into it and literally wanting to be known for his beauty as well as his brains. Being empurataed and shadowplayed was literally a violation of everything Shockwave was, so changing back to his old body would be a way of reclaiming who he once was.
HOWEVER, on the note of loving Shockwave as he is now, I DO think that the most interesting/compelling ShockOP scenario would be for Shockwave to revert to his old body, BUT keep his shadowplayed/cold logic personality. I think it would be meaningful for him to maybe not be the person he used to be, maybe not actually FEEL empathy or emotion, but he can still CHOOSE to be a different person, trying to figure out for himself who his "new true self" is when he's not who he was before (Senator) nor who he was during the war (Decepticon).

Everymech wondered who the heck is that guy always at Megatron's side? Soundwave knew, typically, but he wouldn't say a word.
An Empurata is a rare sight, yes, more so if the Terror of Kaon expressed such care toward.
Otherwise the blue and red empurata hung out with Shockwave. A very unnerving sight. Will Megatron adopt more Empurata or...?
Sometimes the troop could see sadness and desperation in their leader's optics, and one blue optic of the Empurata mirrored it all back.
It choked Megatron how Orion's spark was...so intense. They never merged before the incident, but now...now.. he knew that Orion was as he expected, and much more. A whirlwind of feelings caged inside a frame that couldn't connect them together, like pouring endless water into bottomless reservoir. Still Orion's spark gave: love and serenity that Megatron doubted he even understood.
Briefly they met again, with joy and familiarity that made reality more bitter and hollow.
But he will get what he can take. If this gift from senates taught anything, it's that Megatron could happily succumb to cruelty than he realised.
