En Route to Germany (No. 3)
The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the North and Central European Plain.
The sea stretches from 53°N to 66°N latitude and from 10°E to 30°E longitude. A marginal sea of the Atlantic, with limited water exchange between the two water bodies, the Baltic Sea drains through the Danish Straits into the Kattegat by way of the Øresund, Great Belt and Little Belt. It includes the Gulf of Bothnia, the Bay of Bothnia, the Gulf of Finland, the Gulf of Riga and the Bay of Gdańsk.
The "Baltic Proper" is bordered on its northern edge, at latitude 60°N, by Åland and the Gulf of Bothnia, on its northeastern edge by the Gulf of Finland, on its eastern edge by the Gulf of Riga, and in the west by the Swedish part of the southern Scandinavian Peninsula.
The Baltic Sea is connected by artificial waterways to the White Sea via the White Sea–Baltic Canal and to the German Bight of the North Sea via the Kiel Canal.

I got inspired after seeing the fashion inspo board you posted I bet he would love seeing this fit during the Sweden trip, and he can't do anything cause his family is there the Sweden trip keeps on giving https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQ-ESuBDrI/ and you wanted to reward him after working so hard.
Oh bb, that Sweden trip was the best thing that could happen to us 😉 and I just love flirty/naughty Willy, teasing you all the time, while he knows you have to keep face - but let's face it, you can be just as much of a tease 🙈🫢
[I know, this is short, and there could be so much more to it] 😏😏
Warnings; mention of sexual behaviour; naughty photos;
・✶ 。゚
I feel something so right, Doing the wrong thing | William Nylander 🖋️ (⚡️) [Intern x Willy]
Tumblr media
"Are you looking forward to this trip?" You flashed William a sweet smile while waiting to board the plane.
"Absolutely," he replied with a friendly, warm smile.
"That’s great," was your simple response.
To onlookers, the exchange of words and smiles appeared friendly and professional, fitting for the setting among the Toronto Maple Leafs players and staff preparing for take-off. However, beneath the surface, there was an unspoken tension between you and the Swedish forwarder.
There existed a considerable level of sexual tension between you two, a hidden dynamic you both had to conceal, particularly as you were in the presence of the rest of the Toronto Maple Leafs team, players, and staff.
Well, maybe calling it 'sexual tension' was an understatement.
In reality, the two of you were sleeping together, keeping your relationship under wraps due to your role as an intern for the MLSE. Every day required maintaining a professional demeanour around each other, even though the truth remained hidden.
And today held a unique aspect, though. The team was en route to Sweden for the NHL Global Series, an event of particular significance to William, given that Stockholm held a special place in his heart as his hometown.
And additionally, his entire family would be present to watch him play - a completely surreal experience for him. Having his extended family witness an NHL game live was a momentous occasion, especially for his grandmother, who hadn't previously had the chance to travel to Toronto to see him play.
So, this event offered them the opportunity to see him live, right in his home country, which he found incredibly thrilling.
And for you, it meant accompanying the team for a little over a week. Travelling outside North America brought about a heightened level of coordination, necessitating overtime and round-the-clock work to ensure everything ran smoothly.
But despite the apparent chaos and stress, the staff team collaborated diligently, resulting in a smooth landing in the capital of Sweden. Efforts were focused on ensuring that everything was set for the players to settle in comfortably and prepare for the training sessions and the two games scheduled during their stay.
The flight proceeded without major issues, and fortunately arriving on time. The only minor trouble you encountered was dealing with William Nylander's relentless teasing.
Throughout the entire duration of the flight, he'd stealthily send messages hinting at his desire to join the mile-high club with you at the back of the plane. And while the idea excited you and the thrill of potentially getting caught added a hint of arousal, both of you were aware that it was excessively risky.
Given that your relationship was already forbidden in your professional position, engaging in such a scenario would have been reckless and overall, just stupid.
Nevertheless, despite the risks, William continued sending a slew of cheeky messages. Which naturally had you being cautious about opening them, especially in the presence of other staff members.
Willy: You're rocking that little skirt, baby... you're making it hard for me to focus 😛 You: Willy, come on! We're working here... 🙈 Willy: I can't help it... you're so close to me, looking so fucking good, and I can’t do anything - or maybe we could… 😈😏 You: No, Willy, we can't! Stop teasing Willy: You look too good, and I'm dying to touch you right now 😏❤️
He was such a fucking tease, pushing the boundaries relentlessly.
You were aware of how good you looked, though, dressed impeccably in your professional attire, including the skirt that you knew was one of William's favourites. However, maintaining composure was key; you had to keep yourself together.
Resisting temptation was crucial, especially to avoid risking more than you already did. So, deciding to ignore his advances, you settled in for some much-needed sleep to adjust to the time difference as best as possible.
Upon landing in the Scandinavian country renowned for birthing IKEA and the legendary pop band ABBA, you felt nothing but a sense of readiness to tackle the packed schedule ahead.
Though, calling it a packed schedule would be an understatement.
Your primary focus was ensuring the players were well-rested, swiftly transitioning from the airport to the hotel and then to the training rink. The media schedule, especially for the Swedish players, was more demanding than what you were accustomed to. And additionally, there were arrangements to coordinate with the event team for signing sessions and meet-and-greets with the fans.
Surprisingly, everything fell into place smoothly. Time seemed to slip away as tasks seamlessly followed one another. And soon enough, you found yourself reclining in your hotel room after a taxing day filled with constant interactions. Yet, it had been an exhilarating experience. You had never been this occupied, and every task you encountered reaffirmed why you adored your job so much.
And, of course, there was the constant presence of William.
As one of the most successful and well-known NHL players presently for the time being, his presence garnered an overwhelming amount of attention, particularly in his home country. Which meant, you were always by his side - guiding him through various media sessions, preparing for fan interactions, and, most crucially, ensuring he remained on time.
And that last part was probably the most challenging of all.
As you reviewed tomorrow's schedule before retiring for the night, a note in the calendar caught your attention: the Nylander family would be arriving.
Your initial sentiment leaned towards the sweetness of William reuniting with his family, knowing how deeply he valued and loved them.
However, a mischievous thought surfaced, a cheeky notion of a little payback for all his teasing antics.
William consistently pushed the boundaries, testing your composed professionalism, well aware that you had to maintain a serious demeanour at work. And now, an opportunity arose to playfully challenge him back, intrigued to witness how he'd handle a situation where you'd deliberately tease him while he was surrounded by his family.
In a playful manner, you decided to send him a goodnight message along with a slightly provocative photo.
You: Night babe - just something to help you sleep better and hope for sweet dreams 😏🍑
Tumblr media
Willy: Shit, baby... you can’t do this to me... You: Why not? 😏 Willy: You're getting me all hard and you know it... You: Then you should take care of that yourself 🙌🏼 don't you think... Willy: Send me more and maybe I will 😉 You: *photo* Willy: Yes, baby, that's exactly it…
You couldn't help but smirk quietly as both of you exchanged rather personal and intimate photos, each of you pleasuring yourselves in your own space just a few rooms a part. And after both experiencing your own moments of climax, you couldn't help but smile to yourself.
Willy: Fuck, you're so fucking hot… You: Just glad I could help you unwind 😉❤️ Willy: You definitely do! But I just wish I could be there with you in person… ❤️ You: I know, I wish that too ❤️ Willy: Looks like we'll have to make up for it when we get back 😏😉 You: I guess so 😉 Now get some rest, you've got a hectic day ahead, love Willy: Yeah yeah, goodnight, babe 😉 You: Sweet dreams, darling 😘
**
It seemed like mere moments passed before the alarm chimed, signalling the start of a new day.
The clock displayed 5:15, prompting you to swiftly step into the shower and prepare for the day ahead. But not before capturing a quick snapshot and sending it over to the man just down the hall, followed by another showcasing your prized piece of lingerie for later.
Tumblr media
The day unfolded into a whirlwind of activity.
Interviews, training sessions, more interviews, additional training – a relentless cycle. Credit where it's due, the lads handled it all admirably. Particularly William. It felt as if he aimed to impress, yet deep down, you recognised his innate skill. Despite his reluctance for the limelight, it always found him.
After a lengthy day spent in constant motion, William finally secured some rest before reuniting with his immediate family. Tomorrow heralded the arrival of the extended family ahead of the inaugural match against the Red Wings.
His time with the family was nothing short of heartwarming.
He'd sorely missed them, especially his sisters, unable to visit lately, and his mother, confined to video chats for the past few months. His father, however, he encountered more frequently owing to his travels to North America.
And while sitting in the restaurant, enjoying some quality time and speaking the language of his ancestors, William’s phone suddenly lit up on the table.
“Ooh, who’s y/n?” Stephanie quipped cheekily in Swedish as she noticed the notification.
“Just someone working for the team,” William casually replied, before he clicked the button on the side to turn off the screen.
“You’re not going to check it? Could be important,” his younger sister winked.
But as William knew you very well, he didn’t really dare. It could just be an innocent reminder of his schedule for the following days, but it could also be a teasing text, trying to rile him up.
“If it’s important she’d probably call,” William casually replied before taking a sip of his fizzy drink. And though he tried his best to get back into the lively conversation of his family members, you little message had intrigued him, and now his curiosity had peaked.
So no more than minutes passed before he excused himself to the restroom, and once back in the gentlemen’s room, he opened the notification.
And oh, how glad he was that he hadn’t done it in front of his sisters.
You: You did so well today baby with all the work ❤️ you deserve to be rewarded – so here’s a little something
Tumblr media
William had to clench his jaw as he felt a little twitch in his boxers, blood quickly rushing to his member. Holding his breath, he briefly looked away, but his eyes were too captivated and came back to the screen in his hand.
“Shit…” he muttered to himself, having to adjust himself a little in his loose trousers, before exiting the restroom, in order not to rise any suspicions.
You were torturing him, right in front of his family, and you knew it. You knew all to well that he couldn’t do anything before you were both back in Toronto where you could sneak into his condo late at night.
And meanwhile in your hotel room, as you were getting ready for going to bed, a reply from William appeared on your phone.
Willy: You’re so in for it You: Oh, I’m counting on it 😉

My Pioneer Heritage
So, my Biological Family has pioneers in it. Matta Maria Rosenlund (who went by her Middle Name when she got to Utah) & her husband Daniel Dewey Corbett are among them
Daniel Corbett
Daniel was born in Maine on May 16 1807. He and his wife joined the Church in 1839. They moved to Nauvoo in 1844, and only learned about the Martyrdom when he was en route (which means, unfortunately, they never saw the Prophet personally). He was ordained as a Seventy when he arrived in Nauvoo, and used his skill as a Cobbler to help finish the Nauvoo Temple. They received their "partial Endowments" (I am unsure what this means, but if you're familiar with the Endowment, he got at least the Adam part) on January 12, 1846, before they & their family were forced from Nauvoo
They moved Kanesville, Iowa for years. They were able to plant & harvest their own crops, and even had a daughter who would later marry Martin Harris Jr. On July 5, 1849 the family joined the Allen Taylor company, and completed the journey to Salt Lake
When they arrived, they were allotted land between 4-5 East & 6-7 South. In the early years, he was extremely charitable (given the hardship of all the Saints during this era). He would make & mend shoes for little to no charge, collected firewood for widows, and gave what flour they could spare to those in need (they would take a brass kettle of flour to them as their Fast Offerings)
They wore homespun clothes, dying & spinning the yarn, then sending it to the mill to be made into cloth. They ate Pork, Cornbread, Jonnie Cakes, and Sugar Cane Molasses. They fasted on Thursday Morning (Fast Day was Thursday in the Early Church)
He lived close to the school, and was one of the few Saints who had a clock, so students were often sent to his home to determine the time. Daniel's family was unable to afford the 25¢ a week cost, so like many students, they paid it with vegetables
Daniel loved his wife, Elmira (born 1811). They were Sealed by Brigham Young on June 30, 1853. Unfortunately, she passed in February the next year. This lead Daniel to have to care for 6 children (ages 5-24, with the oldest being married the year before). He remarried Ann Jones, an English Convert, on November 8, 1861. Ann was married before she immigrated in 1849, but it is unknown if she was widowed or divorced. Ann had poor health, and was infertile. As her health became worse, she told Daniel to find a Second Wife, to help care for her & the 2 children left at home. This wife was Matta Rosenlund. Ann died in December 1888, and always held love for her sister-wife (although we know more about Elmira & Matta, Ann is relatively unknown, possibly because she had no children to tell her story. I hope, when the Resurrection occurs, I will be able to learn at the feet of the woman who brought my 3rd Great-grandmother into her family)
He lived many years, supporting his family, and living the Gospel until his passing on June 26, 1892. He was buried next to Ann
Matta Maria Rosenlund
Matta was born November 1, 1826 in Malmöhus, Sweden. She was the first born of Wilhelm Jonas Rosenlund & Boel Jonsson. She had 2 sisters & a brother: Anna (March 20, 1829-? She survived to Adulthood), Hannah (May 25, 1831- May 25, 1832), and Johan Wilhelm (April 10, 1834-October 2, 1836)
Both of her parents died of Cholera in Stockholm when she was 13, leading her & 10 year old Anna being placed in an Orphanage. Despite this, Matta (and presumably Anna) were educated at the King's School, given her father's illustrious military career (being the equivalent of a 4-Star General by age 30). After her education, she got a job in a bakery before marrying Ockar Victor Leonard Svansberg on May 29, 1849
Oscar was a French Sculptor & a Mason "of high degree." She was seen as more Spiritually inclined, while her husband was more Worldly. However, they were often seen together at high society events, such as Masonic Balls ("where Mr. Svansberg was usually the leader because of his pleasing appearance and personality")
Together, they had 4 Children in Stockholm: Victor Mauritz (June 25, 1850-), Maria Lovisa (July 4, 185è-), Oscar A. (1853-? Died in Infancy), and Hilma Ida Constance (May 4, 1863-)
Maria was a faithful Lutheran, but joined the Church in 1859. She spent the next 5 years trying to bring her husband to the Church. When he wouldn't join, she left him, and brought their daughters (Lovisa age 11, Ida under 1) to England with her. They sailed on the Monarch of the Sea under the direction of John Smith (Church Patriarch)
The journey was treacherous. They sailed from April 28, 1864 to June 3, 1864. There were 973 immigrants, and they were provided with little water and whatever provisions the Church could gather (Hardtack, Pork, Peas, and a little White Flour, Sugar, Coffee, and a few other things). The next day, they saw the logistical errors of feeding nearly 1,000 people when it took them 8 hours to get everyone Rice. It was also on this day the first baby died on Measles. Ida was the only baby to survive the voyage, with the other 20 either dying from the disease, or being thrown to sea. The Capitan was determined to throw Ida to sea as well, but Matta hid Ida in her Shawl. In addition to sickness, the sea was so violent that the sickbay was often full of people injured by being thrown around, and there were days when the cook was unable to safely cook (meaning there was no food those days)
After arriving in New York, she took a number of trains until she arrived in Nebraska. On July 4, 1864, Matta & her Daughters joined with the William B Preston Company, arriving in Salt Lake on September 15th, 1864. Her grandson reported that "although Zion did not appear to her as she had anticipated, she many times made the remark that when she set her feet on Utah soil it was the happiest moment of her life. The struggle to exist was a very difficult one, but she seemed obsessed with the desire to make good, and through toil, struggle, and undying faith she succeeded." Soon after her arrival, she heard from friends back in Sweden of the death of her husband
Her son, Victor wanted to join his mother & sisters on their journey, but was unable to due to his service in the Swedish Military. He arrived on July 14, 1877 (after a mere 3-weeks journey). He lived with his mother for 2 years, before disappearing without a trace
When in Utah, she became a Nurse, and helped Ann Jones. Ann & Matta (platonically) loved each other, and Ann asked Daniel to take Matta as a Plural Wife. This marriage resulted in 2 Children: George Q (November 28, 1866-September 20, 1867) & Otis (December 21, 1868-Febuary 4, 1940). Ann helped watch the Children when she was away from home, and adored all of Daniel's Children (as well as Matta's Children from her first marriage) like they were her own
Matta continued her career for over 20 years, sometimes accompanying Ella Shipp (honestly, I can write a whole essay about this badass female doctor, but you'll have to Google her for now). She was eternally optimistic, and was known for helping her patients recover rapidly. She delivered hundreds of children
I love learning about family history because of the lessons we can learn from those who came before
Daniel was a loving man. He never had much, but he was generous with what he did have. Maybe he only had a kettle of flour, but he gave that flour to those who needed it more. Although Matta's Children weren't his own, he loved them unconditionally, and gave whatever he could
Ann may have been infertile, and invalid, but she didn't let either stop her. She rejoiced in all the children of her husband's wives. She cared for them when she could muster up the strength
And Matta went through a lot. Orphaned at 13 & having to care for a sister, fearing having your daughter thrown overboard, having a son go missing without a trace, and being constantly surrounded by sickness. But she never lost hope. She was born in high society, and married into it. But her happiest moment was after she gave it up. She fought for everything she had, and that brought her joy, because she knew she had earned every blessing
I want these stories to be known. Every story deserves to be told, to live through the Ages, to inspire the Children of Men to do better
I want to hear your stories. I chose my Pioneer Ancestors because they speak to me the most. But I want to hear about the people who's stories you most value, whether your parents' story, or some obscure knight in the 12th century.

No one signs up for a Mission: Impossible movie without expecting to do a few stunts. But back in 2014, when Rebecca Ferguson was filming Rogue Nation, the first of the MI films in which she has starred as the international spy Ilsa Faust, the actress got something of a surprise. In a scene set at the Vienna Opera House, Tom Cruise (who plays the seemingly unkillable covert agent Ethan Hunt) planned for his character to exit the building, alongside Ferguson, via its roof. There was just one hitch: “She never told me—or anyone else—she was uncomfortable with heights,” Cruise says. Instead of suggesting the front door, however, Ferguson did what any self-respecting secret agent would. “She trained for it and did it. She confronted it full on,” Cruise says. “That is Rebecca. She knew it made the sequence, and she knew that she could trust me, and I could trust her. It is a lovely moment.”
The stakes are slightly lower on this rainy Monday morning in West London, but Ferguson’s not one to do anything halfway. It’s 8:58 a.m., and I’m sitting in a café when I receive a text: She’s running late but she’s en route: “See you in eight minutes on the dot.” True to her word, exactly eight minutes later Ferguson breezes into the café wearing head-to-toe black, with wet hair and a grin on her bare face. She shrugs off her dark overcoat, orders a fruit plate for the table and a latte and an espresso for herself, opens the book I’m reading to the first page, and declaims the opening lines as if she’s doing a dramatic reading. Then, when she spots the app on my phone transcribing our conversation in real time, the sly sense of humor I’ve heard about makes its entrance. “Penis! Yep, there it is,” Ferguson says, chuckling as the word pops up on the screen. She quickly adds, “Vagina! For equality…”
Warming to Ferguson is effortless. She exhibits an eager inquisitiveness and charming candor, and our discussion careens from marriage (“We live in a society where it’s kind of forced on us,” says Ferguson, who is married to Rory St. Clair Gainer) to the merits of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (“I just got goosebumps when you said it!”). This openness and wide-ranging interest might explain why she’s one of the most exciting, and busiest, actors working in Hollywood right now, with Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One out this summer, Dune: Part Two hitting theaters in late fall, and the acclaimed post-apocalyptic series Silo (on which she’s also executive producer) streaming now on Apple TV+.
There’s a lot of pressure on movies like the ones Ferguson is starring in this year. After Cruise was credited with saving last year’s box office with Top Gun: Maverick, the stakes for this year’s blockbusters are higher, farther, and faster than ever before. The pressure for tentpole films to perform is intense, but it also signals a chance for Ferguson, who appears in two of them, to become more visible than she has ever been. She’s a screen voyager whose adventurous spirit has led her across various genres, and her upcoming projects have taken her around the world—as well as out of it. For Mission: Impossible alone she has filmed in Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and the UK—and director Christopher McQuarrie was recently Instagramming cryptically from the arctic.
It’s no wonder Ferguson gravitates toward the peripatetic. Born in Stockholm in 1983, she was raised by a British mother, Rosemary Ferguson, and a Swedish businessman father, Olov Sundström. Rosemary was the daughter of Northern Irish and Scottish academics; she rebelled in her youth by moving to Sweden, where she found herself entangled in such glamorous projects as helping ABBA with the English translation of the lyrics from the 1974 album Waterloo. “She is rather eccentric,” Ferguson says with a smile.
Though separated, Ferguson’s mother and father both stimulated their daughter’s creativity, signing her up to do everything from music and gymnastics to tap dancing, modeling, and card playing. It was her mother who encouraged her to audition, at age 15, for the part of Anna Gripenhielm in the Swedish soap opera Nya Tider, which she landed and played in 1999 and 2000.
More than 20 years later Ferguson boasts a catalog of complex characters whose one similarity is that they hold their own against male leads played by the likes of Hugh Jackman (The Greatest Showman, Reminiscence), Jake Gyllenhaal (Life), and Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep). She also has two children to guide—a son, Isac, from her previous relationship with Ludwig Hallberg, and a daughter, Saga, with husband Gainer. Being a parent has, she says, been pivotal to her performance in the Dune films and her understanding of her character, Lady Jessica, the mother of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul. “She’s a mom protecting and training someone, something,” Ferguson explains. “I say something because she knows [she’s dealing with] an entity bigger than themselves. When Paul starts going off, she begins losing power, and it puts her on an unpredicted journey to discover who we are in response to other people. That’s when we find ourselves again.”
Ferguson doesn’t seem to have trouble figuring out who it is she is. Dune director Denis Villeneuve says, “Rebecca’s a passionate, warm human being who loves to quickly break the ice. She has a huge imagination. She’s someone who has no fear to walk into the zone of the unknown. She can make you believe in the extraterrestrial, in other cultures, in different worlds or dimensions. Some actors are very down to earth, but she’s someone who can fly high.”
High enough, it seems, that Villeneuve expanded her role in the second installment of Dune, which is adapted from Frank Herbert’s beloved novel. “Lady Jessica kind of disappears in the second part of the book, and I made sure as I was writing the screenplay to do the opposite, to make sure that she will be active, to bring her back to the front of the story,” he says. “I’m looking forward for the world to see what Rebecca has accomplished. She’s not afraid to go very far away. She’s a force that I can count on.”
Or, at least, she can be counted on to stay surprising. While filming Dune in Jordan, Ferguson and Gainer organized excursions for the cast and crew so they could appreciate the places their work had taken them. “I rented a boat for the stunt team and the actors and took them out in Jordan to a place in the middle of the Dead Sea where you can see four different countries,” she says. “Seeing them dive for the first time, I enjoyed that.”
Ferguson is an actor who takes her work very seriously, but she believes a happy set is key to great creative collaborations. “She loves to have fun,” Villeneuve says. “It’s important for her to enjoy the moment and to create a lightness, make jokes and make sure that everybody is comfortable. She wants you to feel secure.” But she also wants to be pushed beyond her comfort zone, which has happened frequently on the Mission: Impossible films. “We don’t really work with scripts,” Ferguson says. “As someone who likes structure, I find it tricky, but it makes me confront the fact that I have zero control. There is method to the madness.”
Structure might be appealing, but Cruise says Ferguson does just fine without it. “Her elegance and intelligence jump off the screen. She reminded [McQuarrie] and me of Ingrid Bergman,” he says. “We knew when we met her we had found our Ilsa. Rebecca is enormously talented, and when she decides to do something, she makes it happen.”
Throughout the Mission: Impossible franchise, Ilsa gives Ethan a run for his covert-ops money—and Ferguson promises that Dead Reckoning will once again up the ante. “I can tell you it is an explosive, dynamic film with incredible stunts you’ve never seen before,” she says. But the actor is also cognizant of how being known for characters like Ilsa and Lady Jessica may limit her ability to escape typecasting as an action hero version of the so-called “strong female character”.
“I feel frustrated by the pitfall of doing things that are not completely different, from a creative aspect,” she says. “People enjoy what I do, but it’s recognized in a similar way. It makes me see that I’m trying to put together something that is shaped by other people, and I want to break out of it.” Ferguson wouldn’t be the first actor to feel boxed in by type, but what would she like to do to free herself from preconceived expectations?
“It changes all the time,” she says. “I enjoy real stories and real people, but if I go back in history, whose story am I going to tell?” What she’d rather do is discover a script that grapples with messy humanity, the kind we all live with when we’re not super-spies or in a universe 20,000 years in the future. “That’s what I want to do,” she says, “but I don’t know where to find it.” Lucky for Ferguson, that mission is still possible.

Everyone's heard about any number of WWII badasses, but I was reminded of one in particular that made me think to myself, "this is the kind of person Johnny "Soap" MacTavish would absolutely know about and try to model himself after."
So I figured I'd give a little history lesson and tell other people about this guy too. Please meet:
Colonel Sir Ronald Thomas Stewart Macpherson, aka Tommy Macpherson, aka The Kilted Killer
So, first of all, this dude was Scottish, born in Edinburgh. He was commissioned in the Territorial Army in 1939 and served as a commando from 1940 until being taken prisoner in Libya by Italians after a failed exfil attempt on a recon mission in late 1941. He actually managed to escape (by holding up his 10-man arresting party with the gun they gave back to him!) but was recaptured and placed in solitary confinement. He attempted to escape again anyway before they moved him to a camp in Spain, where he tried again to escape (and made it pretty far but couldn't breach the outer wall). By mid 1942, they had moved him to a camp in Italy.
Mid 1943, the Germans took over the Italian camps and the prisoners were to be moved to Austria. Macpherson escaped again, but didn't get far before being recaptured. He was taken to a camp in Austria where he managed yet another escape, this time with two other men. They got recaptured in Italy on their way to Yugoslavia only because their rations gave them away as not being the Italian officers Macpherson had almost convinced the arresting patrol they were. Instead of being sent back to Austria, they were sent to a camp in Poland, where they escaped again (with two others this time), and made it into Sweden, from where they could fly home to Scotland.
So, let's count that up: In his first three years of being in the army, he was a prisoner of war for two of them and attempted escape five times from four different camps (well, three camps and once en-route to a camp) before finally making a sixth - successful! - escape.
During all of that, Macpherson held the rank of only a Second Lieutenant, though by the time he escaped the final time, he was considered an Acting Captain.
Despite his ordeal, or probably because of it and his general badassery, Macpherson was selected to Spec Ops within days of returning to Scotland. They trained until early 1944, after which he was promoted to Major (after only four years!!), and then parachuted into France in full battle dress which included a kilt.
The night after arriving, he blew up a bridge with the help of the local resistance. The night after that, they set mines in the road and surrounding forests leading towards Normandy and significantly hindered a Panzer Division attempting to reinforce German forces during the Allied Operation Overlord.
He and his two-man team, along with the resistance, then proceeded to spend the next three months blowing up bridges and disrupting road and rail traffic all throughout southwestern France. The Germans got so mad they put out a 300,000 franc bounty on his head.
He modified his machine guns to sound as though they were larger caliber than they were, causing the Germans to believe they were coming up against superior forces.
He booby-trapped a rail crossing guard to decapitate a German officer and his driver.
He cemented the surrender of 23,000 German troops at once - including a Major General! - by being driven unarmed (in his full battle dress with kilt!) and under fire into the village the Major General was commanding from and bluffing about being able to call down heavy artillery and a massive RAF strike.
He also did a lot more during the war, mostly in small-man teams and with local resistance fighters, including negotiating more axis-force surrenders and capturing or killing significant numbers of German troops.
Now, post-war, he had his rank reverted to Lieutenant (which is a thing that can happen, but not often out of wartime unless you're naughty). This wasn't a slight on his fighting or tactical prowess, but holding the rank of Major after only five years of service is insane and, frankly, he probably didn't have the education or experience to support such a rank. Especially as much of his fighting prowess came in what was, essentially, guerilla warfare, he likely had little to no practical ability to lead conventional troops and needed to learn that.
Additionally, the version of Spec Ops he had been recruited into in 1943 was not the SAS, but something called the SOE. Post-WWII, the SOE got disbanded and a number of operatives returned to their pre-war jobs while a good chunk was folded into MI6. Macpherson returned to the regular army, though he did do work with a regiment from the SAS while he was a Captain. Eventually he rose through the ranks to retire (into the Reserves) as a Colonel in 1967 and got knighted by the Queen in 1992.
Macpherson's autobiography came out in 2010, and I suspect it was of great interest to a number of Scottish soldiers enlisted at the time. I also suspect that Soap would take a particular interest in his demolitions work and the sheer infrastructure damage he managed to accomplish on his deployment. If Soap were to want to switch to Officer track (which, as I pointed out before, is unlikely), he could certainly find worse role models than Macpherson in that manner as well.

Swedish Communist Party stands with Palestinians against Israeli occupation
youtube
“The Communist Party in Sweden—we are the strongest supporters of Palestine [out] of all the other parties in Sweden,” says Jonas Hjelm Smith, Swedish-American human rights activist and member of the Swedish Communist Party, on board the 2023 Gaza Freedom Flotilla. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a grassroots people-to-people solidarity movement working to end the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza, has launched numerous Freedom Flotilla voyages since 2008. TRNN contributor, lawyer, and freelance journalist Dimitri Lascaris reports from The Handala, the flagship vessel of the 2023 Gaza Freedom Flotilla, en route from Gothenburg, Sweden, to Oslo, Norway. On board The Handala, Lascaris speaks with Hjelm Smith about why he is traveling with the Flotilla, and about the Swedish Communist Party’s unwavering support for the Palestinian freedom struggle.

Thursday News and Reading
When you have goals you want to achieve, it caȵ be challenging to get things out of the classroom, bưt traveling with your animal might be just the ticket. Hittinǥ or trail riding is help your horses beçome more interested in his work, and the variety of sights and sounds will help him become more confident. It can also helρ your horse become more interested in his work. Animals ‘ fitness and conditioning are improved by riding on varied landscape, and they also gain the benefit of strengthening your core. Do n’t believe me? Test out this list explaining all of the above, and more. There is no justification for the lesson to end juȿt because you leave the school behind, even though it’ȿ good to taƙe a relaxing stroll and pootling along the roads can help your horse. You can ρerform a variety of tasks while hiking the trails. These accounts should you be following if you’re looking for some ideas to help you get yourself out it.
I’m not sure about you, but having a good relationship with my animal has been a must. Every time I’ve asked for advice about my new animal, the truth has been framework. And while it was obvious that I wanted to ride, I was n’t healthy to get on my person without first putting in the work. Having seen the change it’s made in his attitude, and felt the rewards in our relationship, I’m a complete turn and spend just as much of my horse time ( if not more ) on the ground as I do in the chair. When I first met my instructor, he explained that a horse is much more than just something you can ride; you can teach it. Being able to move his legs is sσmething that should be in every animal owner’s kit, regardless of what kind of aniɱal you have or what ყou do with him. Here’s how ƫo get started.
We ca n’t ignore the scientific foundations of genetics, despite the conventional wisdom that a good horse is never a bad color. Yes, all horses should bȩ treated the same as ρeople, just like people, but occasionally iƫ’s wise to consider the knowledge when selecting a horse and how to work with particular horses. Although there are cases of these brμnettes liviȵg up to thȩir popularity, there are also quite a few people out there who disprove the naysayers who have been heard the stereotypes about chestnut mares. However, this research highlights how color and genetics can affect animal behavior and may inform horse owners ‘ decisions regarding coaching and management.
If we want to increase, we must examine the areas where wȩ fall short, but focusįng on the negatives will never help people. I completely understand this; I feel the pressure of doing everything right to give my horse the best chance of learning. But often I spend entire classes berating myself –’ Ah, I got that bad, and that, and that …’. It is obvious from the outside how detrimental anxiety can get. However, when we’re compelled to give it our best, it becomes difficult ƫo leave. Although this article focuses on dressage, it applies to all of us who put ourselves under stress to the expense of development.
A call for greater empathy and understanding iȵ the online animal world. This analysis examines the social media pro-coach or pro-rider attitude, witⱨ those on the coaching side arguing that riders nȩed to be tougher and work hard, and those on the driving sidȩ pleading for more coɱpassion and care for their well-being. There’s often a middle ground with social media, which įs a plus. What we really need is to realize that we’re all human people, finally on the same area – Team Horsepeople.

Turkey Approves Sweden’s NATO Membership Bid
Sweden now only needs Hungarian approval to join the alliance and complete a significant enlargement of NATO
By Jared Malsin
Jan. 23, 2024 3:07 pm ET
ISTANBUL—Turkey’s parliament approved Sweden’s entrance to NATO, removing one of the last remaining obstacles to a historic expansion of the alliance in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The vote on Tuesday night likely ends a nearly two-year-long diplomatic standoff between Turkey and Western powers that began when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to block both Sweden and Finland’s entry into the organization. Finland joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization last year after Turkey dropped its opposition.
Now Sweden only needs Hungary’s parliament to give its approval to join the alliance. Hungary had pledged not to be the last country to approve Swedish membership, but has now become the final holdout.
“We are very much looking forward to becoming members of NATO,” said Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in an interview. “We do expect white smoke from Budapest as well.”
Sweden’s membership would complete a significant enlargement of NATO that shifts the balance of power in Europe, adding thousands of soldiers along with naval power and warplanes. Both Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership in 2022, seeking to shore up their security in response to Russia’s assault on Ukraine. The decision ended a decadeslong policy of managing an uneasy relationship with Russia by choosing not to align with NATO in order not to provoke the Kremlin.
The addition of Finland and Sweden would effectively allow the alliance to operate across an area that spans the 1,000-mile stretch from the Baltic Sea to the Arctic. With Sweden in NATO, Russia would become the sole non-NATO country bordering the Baltic Sea, forcing its warships to pass near NATO-controlled shores en route to the Atlantic….

Changing Behavior
My choice of words for the title of this piece at Tumblr sounds like something that a psychologist, psychiatrist, or sociologist might choose. I've chosen the words because the subject for this piece is complicated. Ultimately, the subject is how movies can change a person's thinking and behavior.
"Have there been any changes in your son's behavior Mrs. Perkins?"
Early in the movie THE BABY CARRIAGE (org'l title; BARNVAGNEN - 1963), two young adults, on their first date, get ready to make love in the back seat of the young adult male's car. This is in a rural area of Sweden. The young adult female, Britt Larsson, says to her new lover "Do you think this is what foreigners call Swedish sinfulness?"
I cite the scene from this produced-in-Sweden movie because, starting in the late 1960s, a number of produced-in-Sweden movies were in theaters, here, in the U.S., whose plots included a good deal of partial or full nudity, along with sexual situations. In newspaper articles, in newspaper reviews, on television and radio shows, these movies were often described as part of a new era in the history of commercial motion pictures. The word 'freedom' was often used in advertisements for these movies.
Not long after these movies began playing in theaters, 'free love' became one of the buzz phrases that was noted in the press coverage of San Francisco, California's 'Summer of Love' in 1967.
Later on, in the 1970's, I would sometimes hear the term 'permissive society' used to describe life in Sweden.
In describing the plot of THE BABY CARRIAGE, the sensational or provocative aspects of movies like I, A WOMAN and INGA are nowhere to be found. THE BABY CARRIAGE's plot focuses on the relationships of young adults in a down-to-earth manner...
18-year-old Britt Larsson has recently started working in a local factory in a city in Sweden. The factory makes housewares and the employees are mostly young women. Britt's family -- mom, dad, and little brother, Staffon -- are preparing to move to a newly finished high-rise in another part of the city.
Britt is currently in an unsatisfying relationship with a young man her age.
One day, after leaving a movie theater matinee alone, she encounters a good-looking young man who is having difficulty using his key to unlock the front door of a building not far from the movie theater. The young man, drunk, strikes up a conversation with Britt and follows her, as she makes her way home. They agree to meet, again, the following day at a location they both know.
Some days following the good-looking young man's no-show, the Larsson family has successfully moved to their new apartment and are enjoying a new television set, with its remote control device.
Not too long afterward, Britt's mom sends her to fetch little Staffon who has wandered back to the old neighborhood to play with pigeons in a bird shelter constructed by someone in the old neighborhood. The two characters walk towards their new neighborhood and, en route, a new, good-looking young man strikes up a conversation with Britt.
These twc characters meet again by chance, one weekend, and, in a spur-of-the-moment decision, they go for a spin in the young man's car. During the car trip, they both talk about what they currently do for work.
The new good-looking young man is an aspiring rock and roll musician. Britt is attracted to him. He pulls the car over to the side of the road in a rural area, they jump into the backseat and make love. And it seems as if it's a first time for Britt.
A number of weeks later, Britt has a conversation with one of her co-workers at the factory and figures out that she's pregnant.
The bulk of the plot of THE BABY CARRIAGE details Britt's trials and tribulations with her pregnancy, her attempt at a relationship with good-looking young man #1, her relationship with the baby's father, and her need to make decisions for herself.
This is a contemporary combination comedy and drama, as well as a character study. And it's another movie that should be thoroughly researched.
Among the movie's many strengths is the fact that the scenes involving Britt and her two boyfriends (good-looking young man #1 and the new, good-looking young man - the baby's father) include improvised dialog.
Thanks to the combination of the direction and the acting performances of the entire cast, the movie comes across as completely believable. Most viewers will construct relationships with the main characters and will want to help Britt and her two boyfriends.
Britt comes across as a young adult who is secure in the way that she thinks of herself and in the way that she makes decisions.
The picture of daily life in Sweden is different from what was suggested in newspapers, magazines, and on radio and television, later on in the 1960's, here, in the U.S.
According to the Internet Movie Database, THE BABY CARRIAGE did not play in theaters in the U.S.
If any of this sounds interesting to you who are reading my words, THE BABY CARRIAGE is available on DVD with English subtitles.

By Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack are not the only team looking to make a few late signings and moves. A few stray signings this week as Labor Day approaches. Tanner Fritz has resolved his contract situation. On Thursday morning, his situation was unresolved, but by that afternoon, it had concluded. Fritz signed a one-year AHL deal to return to the Bridgeport Islanders, where he spent his first six years. He spent the last two in Hartford. Fritz (the second player named Fritz to play in Hart City and Park City) often played out of position to help when the Wolf Pack were shorthanded at forward. He had talks with Hartford and Springfield, all to tend to his son's special needs. MISCELLANEOUS HARTFORD RELATED NEWS Ex-Pack Alex Bourret was named head coach for the CCL Dynamiques M (minor)15 team (QBAAA). The Islanders named ex-Pack/Ranger Pascal Rheaume as one of the two new assistant coaches to work with their new head coach, Rick Kowalsky. It's his first AHL stint. He was initially an assistant with Iowa in 2015-16. The last two years he spent with the Trois-Rivières Lions (ECHL). Bryce McConnell-Barker might be in Wolf Pack training camp, but his ticket back to Sault Ste. Greyhounds Marie (OHL) is already stamped. He spent three weeks here last spring without playing a game before being released. Like Will Cullye and Brennan Othmann before him, he is still 19 and can't play in the AHL until his junior season. He will likely captain the Greyhounds and be on the 2024 Canadian WJC Team. McConnell-Barker hopes to be like Othmann, go deep in the OHL playoffs, and maybe get a shot at the Memorial Cup. An ex-Pack/Ranger, Libor Hájek, has signed as a PTO training camp invite with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Next year, he will go to the Penguins and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL). He joins another ex-Pack, Ryan Graves, who starts his first season of a six-year deal in the Keystone State. Howlings learned that Adam Samuelsson, the youngest son of Hartford Whaler great Ulf Samuelsson, an ex-New York Ranger whose Whalers #5 is "retired" in the XL rafters. Ulf is also a former Wolf Pack and Avon Old Farms assistant coach. Adam will attend the training camp on an invite basis of the independent Chicago Wolves this fall. He signed a deal with Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL) earlier this summer. Sam Gagner, the son of former New Haven Nighthawk/Ranger Dave Gagner, has gone from the Winnipeg Jets to the  Edmonton Oilers on a PTO deal. Gagner was a first-round pick of the Oilers in 2007 and had 519 career points in 1,015 games played with seven different teams. HAGELIN CALLS IT A CAREER Carl Hagelin, who played 17 games for the CT Whale en route to 713 NHL games and who won two Stanley Cups, two silver medals for Sweden in the Olympics and the WJC, and two NCAA national titles in four full years at Michigan, had a career of 152 points in 171 games - a sure-fire entrant in the Wolverine HOF. After a year off, Hagelin retires from active playing, resulting from an eye injury suffered in practice two years ago in Washington. Hagelin exceeded expectations as a sixth-round draft choice, as it was considered a stretch that he would ever play in the NHL. He was supposed to be too small and slight. However, nobody could catch him with his outstanding speed. Hagelin was traded early Saturday morning for the Anaheim Ducks' Emerson Etem in late June 2015. MORE MOVES Madison Bowey goes from the Laval Rocket to Dynamo Minsk (Belarus-KHL). Turner Ottenbreit of Iowa heads to Kunlun (China-KHL), making 78 AHL'ers signed in Europe. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Milwaukee Admirals are the only two teams not to have lost a player. A story on the website Detroit Hockey Now reprised a story from an Inside AHL Hockey interview with long-time Chicago Wolves GM Wendell Young. The story was that former coach Ryan Warsofsky (Sacred Heart University) was threatened with dismissal by Carolina two years ago before his Wolves team went on to win the Calder Cup final against the Springfield Thunderbirds in seven games. Warsofsky was and is now an assistant with the NHL San Jose Sharks. Warsofky is an old friend of ex-Pack/Sound Tigers, the now-retired Bourque brothers, Chris and Ryan. He chose to play the former Yale goalie, Alex Lyon, over Carolina's objections instead of their Russian prospect Pytor (Peter) Kochetov two springs ago. Carolina had gone through hoops to get him to North America via Austria first because of the war in Ukraine. Now Lyon, who then made a very public obscene gesture in the championship team picture at center ice, with a two-middle-fingered salute. It was not meant or directed at the Springfield fans but rather the Carolina management, despite having just won the Calder Cup. Lyon was given a one-game AHL suspension for his stunt. Chicago has gone the independent route this season and has gone through four affiliates in the last seven years. Winning a championship is very important in Chicago. Instrumental in Florida making the Stanley Cup playoffs last year, Lyon was a backup to Spencer Knight (Darien/AOF). The previous spring, they had to enter a substance abuse clinic as they made it to the finals before bowing out to the eventual champion, the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Lyon is expected to be in Grand Rapids this year to teach and tutor the highly regarded prospect Sebastian Cossa, who battled Pack goalie Dylan Garand two years ago in juniors, as they were the two best netminders in the WHL. Lyon was helped at Yale when he played by another ex-Yale goalie, Jeff Malcolm, the current Wolf Pack goalie coach. The Red Wings have four goalie prospects: Cossa, Carter Gylander, a junior at Colgate University (ECACHL) under the guidance of new head coach ex-Pack Mike Harder, John Lethmon, a Grand Rapids returnee, and Yale-bound next year, just drafted (sixth-round) Rudy Guimond (Taft School) in Cedar Rapids (USHL) this year. Ex-Pack Tysen Helgesen, re-signs with the Rapid City Rush (ECHL). Chase Zieky (Avon/AOF) signs with the Maine Mariners (ECHL) for next year. Matt Tugnutt (Sacred Heart University) leaves HC Chamonix (France-Magnus League FREL) and signs with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) for next season. Ex-Pack/Sound Tiger Anthony Greco is at an unknown Frölunda HC (Sweden-SHL) destination. Ex-Sound Tiger Brandon DeFazio announced his retirement from hockey. DeFazio played last year with ERC Schwenniger (Germany-DEL). His father, Dean DeFazio, was a former New Haven Nighthawk with four sons involved in hockey. Jeremy and Cameron have already retired. His youngest, Cole, is entering his sophomore year at Division III, Neumann (Aston, PA) College (UCHC). Brandon has taken an amateur scouting position (Ontario region) with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mark Osiecki, a former New Haven Senator, also becomes a Midwest region Penguins Pro Scout as he leaves the University Wisconsin-Madison (Big 10) campus. Ex-Wolf Pack/Sound Tiger Matt Lorito, a Greenwich resident, also announced his retirement from hockey. Lorito played with EHC Wolfsburg (Germany-DEL) last year and took a pro scouting position (Midwest) with Pittsburgh. DeFazio and Lorito join another ex-Sound Tiger, Matt Mangene, who has been a Penguins amateur scout for the last three years. After his grad year at Michigan Tech (CCHA) after playing at Ohio State (Big 10), Ryan O'Connell becomes the 63rd college player to sign in Europe with Toulouse-Blagnac (France-FFHG-Division-3). He is also the nephew of ex-New Haven Senator Brian Downey. Jack Badini (Old Greenwich/CT Oilers-EHL) departed Newfoundland (St. John's) (ECHL), had a few call-ups to Toronto (AHL), and signed overseas with Stjernen (Norway-NEL).
