been thinking about one of my favorite undertale fics lately, it’s like. the best undertale fic to me if not the best fic on ao3 period. i liek it so much. it’s the scientist series by talkingsoup and i will Never stop talking about like i Know i have mentioned it before but i am physically incapable of shutting up about it. it’s so good. i once tried to get my best friend to read it even though she doesn’t know english but i tried to convince her to read it with google translate (it didn’t last long but it was worth the effort). it’s So Good. i discovered it in like 2018 or 2019 and have reread it at least two times since it’s just like AUEHGGHHH. gaster’s downfall and then him haunting the narrative … the exploration of sans’ backstory …… the characterizations ………. it’s all very well written and also very dark and traumatic. They make Shit happen to these characters. but it gets better. i think ? i have never finished the series because iirc it only finished around a year ago and i haven’t reread it since. but i am Thinking about it. it’ll probably take me months because 1. i have to come to terms with the fact that one of my favorite stories will be Finished(tm) 2. i have to hype myself up to reread it because it’s a very long series with like 400k words or something AND the second installment is verrrry dark and heavy considering it explores the whole reset bullshit and flowey is putting sans through 29263937 meatgrinders

i kept waffling on fur or no fur and ended up with the no fur approach for this one... i think fur could work too but i didn’t want to do a whole separate thing and just paintbucketing it brown looked bad, so i guess just imagine what really dark brown fur would look like lmao

I’ve been replaying through the dark souls games (I finished one and am almost done with 2) and man. Casting dex builds are a lot easier for me than pure strength

#I’ve played through 1 and 3 and about 3/4 of 2 before #I bought them all in a bundle so I kinda played them out of order #I did 1 first and missed a lot of optional stuff (including the dlc which I got mad at and quit) #then I played 3 and did pretty much everything there was to do including getting most of the way through ng+ #and then I olayed 2 last and kinda got burnt out right after the mirror knight and never beat the game or did the dlc #which is the main reason I wanted to replay Through the games #any way on all 3 I did a str build with just enough int to use the moonlight greatsword #and I though that’s what I was gonna do for elden ring but I ended up going for a dex int build and having way more fun with it #so now that’s what I’m doing for all 3 dark souls games #well sort of I went pretty hard into pyromancy as well as sorcery in my ds1 playthrough #then in 2 I’m doing a hex build specifically #and I’ll probably do dark sorcery/pyromancy again in 3 #any way I’ll probably write a longer post about dark souls once I finish all 3 games #dark souls

Found a dutch oven for like, astoundingly cheap yesterday and was finally able to try baking bread in one ! This is a poppyseed rye that I darkened with some molasses and cocoa powder, mostly out of curiousity (i often use molasses but this is the first time trying cocoa as well. Smelled super nice while baking). I added those after the first rise and didn't do a whole lot of kneading when i did, and it seems to have marbled, if the bit of exposed interior (didn't grease the dutch oven, and that part of the crust stuck) is anything to go by. Definitely overbaked it a little, but super happy with how much oven spring I got.

Also, the jams from last night. Very pretty reds.

waow.. found a Beautiful Orb at the store today (giant ferrero rocher). I don't even want to crack into it and eat it.. I just want to hold it.. rotate it in my palm thoughtfully like I am an evil wizard who has just been delivered a Very Plot Significant magical gem and is scheming how to use it

So I had to skip NaNo the last couple days as I helped planned and carried out a sort of protest (and it was amazing!!). But, given my goal of a light 250 words a day, I think I more than made up for it today. And I wrapped up Chapter 8 7 (I mixed these up), a chapter I went back and added after the fact, so I'm now at a total of 11 chapters into the rewrite, and I've already started Chapter 12 (speaking of which, if you're in the SW Discord, I updated the Discord draft finally)!

I'm going to include a longer excerpt from earlier in the chapter that I'm proud of, since I did wrap it up tonight.

The moon was setting below the horizon now, but Caz knew that wasn’t really what mattered. What mattered was the sliver of darkness at its edge, the moon turning her face away, her pull lessened if only slightly.

There was still plenty of light to see the massive wolf running across the stretch of desert toward him.

Caz moved in quick bursts as she approached, letting her get close enough to nip his heels before weaving back toward the parking lot until that stitch returned in his gut. She bent her head as if to play, her gray coat dazzling under the moonlight.

It wasn’t until they were at the edge of the lot, near that rotten-smelling dumpster, that she began to whine, then snap at him until he floated up and out of reach. She choked out a warning growl just before collapsing on the pavement, her limbs spasming and torso heaving.

Caz gritted his teeth hard enough to ruin several for good and waited. Waited through the atrophying muscles and reshaping bones. Waited through the skin-prickling hair loss. Waited until the whines and whistles became the coughs and moans of something all-too human. And then he dropped.

The first thought he had upon seeing Lila Brown was that he needed to feed her. It was the first thing he’d ever said to her the night they met, or maybe the second — no, the third. The first thing he’d asked was if this guy was bothering her. The second was if she wanted his truck once he’d finished draining him. He had crawled out its window after tilting it to the side with the sheer force of his attack, his stomach even fuller than it was now and his voice trembling from traces of amphetamines in the blood. She’d shaken her head. She couldn’t drive, he later found out, not that she’d want the very thing the guy had used to corner her in the hopes for free head.

The third thing he’d said to her was a reluctant command to follow him home to crash on his couch, not knowing how scared she’d been hearing that, thinking he was taking her for himself. So, it was the fourth thing he’d ever said to her, then — not the third. A demand the skinny wraith eat some scrambled eggs and toast at his kitchen table the following afternoon.

She was still skinny, even now, though her bare flesh was more wrinkled and looser in some parts. Her gray coat had given way to a mat of brown curls, though there were now some strands of glitter, as she so affectionately called it.

“Hey sweets,” he said, in a voice those newly-reformed ears could barely pick up.
